In 1983 the family moved to Plano, Texas, for Stu’s job.  They lived there for 33 years.  Here Kris was very active in their church, and became a Stephen Minster for many years.  When Stu retired in the early 00’s, they started King of Glory Fellowship church in Richardson, Texas.  After many successful years with that, Stu and Kris moved to Albert City, Iowa, Stu’s hometown.  There they made many friends, participated in their church, and started the Helping Hand Pantry in downtown Albert City.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Everett was born October 21, 1932, in Albert City, Iowa, to Floyd and Marie (Anderson) Nordine. He attended Albert City High School where he excelled in athletics and intended to enroll at Drake University to play football. However, the sudden passing of his father changed the trajectory of his life and Everett remained on the farm to provide for his mother and three younger siblings. In 1953, he was called to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. He served for two years with the US Army in Germany.
Everett accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of five and eight years later, he recommitted his life to Jesus Christ and the desire to be the man that God intended him to be. Everett also spoke often of the impact attending Explo ’72 in Dallas, Texas, had on him as he responded to Billy Graham’s challenge to live a life fully dedicated to Christ and building His Kingdom.
Next to God, Everett’s Grandfather, Arthur Anderson, had the biggest impact on his life. Everett longed to follow his Grandfather’s example of putting God first, family second, and friends and America third, and to develop godly character such as honesty, integrity, humility and always leaving everything better than you found it.
In 1956, Everett was united in marriage to his lifelong sweetheart, Sandra Gustafson. God blessed them with over 65 years together, three children, nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Everett’s love for his family was matched only by their love and admiration for him. He was his kids and grandkids biggest cheerleader and built unbreakable bonds with them through tossing a baseball, casting a fishing pole, hunting for the prize buck, cruising Lake Okoboji in his boat or intentionally sharing some of his godly Grandpa wisdom.
Everett was a gifted leader, utilizing his talents in various roles with the local 4H club, Elevator Board, and church leadership. He remembered fondly his time on the Iowa Corn Promotion Board and serving as President of the National Corn Development Foundation.
Everett and Sandy enjoyed everything side-by-side; whether it was, traveling, farming, running a seed business, or raising their family together in Albert City. They moved to Rapid City, SD, in 2000 where Everett continued his volunteering with Pennington County Sherriff’s Department and the Hands of Faith Board of Directors. Everett and Sandy loved the beauty and experiences the Black Hills offered them the past 21 years but always considered themselves to be Iowans at heart.
Everett’s life, love and influence will forever be cherished by his wife, Sandy; children: Terry (Hope) Nordine of Rapid City; Heather (Mike) Lenz of Newell, IA; and Amber (Brian) Perkins of Mason City, IA; grandchildren: Cassondra Lenz of Paulina, IA; Amanda (William) Clark of Eaton, CO; Cody (Clair) Nordine of Rapid City; Brittney Hicks of Storm Lake, IA; Autumn (JohnMark) Lundeen of Rapid City; Courtney (Tait) Vesely of Rapid City; Casey (Audrey) Nordine of Hill City, SD; Joshua (Logan) Perkins of Minneapolis, MN; and Caleb (Sydney) Perkins of Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren: Juilee, Jace, Amiah, Braeden, Dakota, Logan, Belle, Cale, Eve, Everly, June, Rowen, Frankie, Griffin, Wilder, Mildred and Lucille; sisters-in-law: Betty Nordine and Pam Nordine; brothers-in-law: Don Fredrickson and Carl Gochnauer; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Ruth M. Bean - July 04, 1919 - August 19, 2021

Departed: 08/19/2021 (Albert City)
Obituary Preview: Ruth M. Bean, age 102, of Albert City, Iowa died August 19, 2021 at Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Funeral Services will be Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City, Iowa. Burial will be at the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will be Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth was born on the home farm just west of Albert City, Iowa on July 4, 1919 to Henry and Mable (Nelson) Anderson. Her father had gone to get the doctor, but Ruth was delivered by her grandparents who were visiting from Chicago.
As a child, Ruth helped her dad with chores around the farm. While in school, she enjoyed history and geography. She also enjoyed singing in the glee club and her love of music was evident throughout her life. As a junior in high school, she had a long case of scarlet fever. Ruth graduated on time from Albert City High School in 1937. Her high school class reunions were always important to her so she could reconnect with former classmates.
She attended Buena Vista College. For pin money, Ruth would set hair for the girls attending dances. She would sometimes splurge on a chocolate ice cream cone for five cents. Ruth graduated from BVC in 1939 with a two-year Normal Training Certificate. She taught in three, one-room schools. She enjoyed teaching the 3-4th grade age the most. The first school she taught was north of Laurens. Ruth attended night school with the family she boarded with at that time. It is here that she met a local farmer, Merle Bean, over one of the social times that were part of each session’s programs. They dated over the five years she taught.
Ruth and Merle were married on November 27, 1942 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They anticipated that Merle was going to have to serve in WWII, but his hearing loss prevented him from enlisting. Ruth and Merle began farming with a rented farm near Trimble Lake by Terril, Iowa. They raised cattle and row crops. Ruth substitute taught and was a part of the local Farm Bureau Ladies singing quartet. They joined the Methodist Church in Terril and were baptized in that church. Ruth and Merle farmed there until 1945 when they moved home to the farm where Ruth had been born. On the home farm, Ruth and Merle raised hogs, cattle, and milked some Holsteins. For many years, Ruth raised over 200 chickens and she sold eggs and fryers. Merle passed away unexpectedly in 1971. She moved to her house in town in 1978. She maintained her membership in the neighborhood women’s club and always put a lot of thought into the table setting and food when it was her turn to host.
When Ruth and Merle returned to the Albert City farm, they joined the Albert City Evangelical Free Church where she was a devoted member until her health didn’t allow her to attend church. Over the many years she was active in teaching Sunday School, serving as a Deaconess, organizing and helping with White Cross, the funeral committees and singing in the choir and a quartet.
Ruth worked in the kitchen of the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City form 1967 until 2001. She would sometimes stay after work and play the piano for the residents. She would sing right along with them when she played those good old hymns she grew up with.
She was an excellent cook, making Angel food cakes from scratch without a mixer or written recipe and was known for her flaky pie crusts and Swedish rye bread. “Rye Bread Ruth” was coined as a fun name by her family. Ruth was also an excellent quilter, making many hand quilted blankets for her family to enjoy. She was a wonderful seamstress making clothing for herself and her family members. She also did alterations and patching for friends. As frugal as Ruth learned to be growing up in the depression years, she always enjoyed setting a pretty table with colorful napkins, a pretty centerpiece, and a tasty food. She loved receiving cards as well as sending them. When she could no longer read the cards, she waited for someone in the home to read them to her. Then when family came she’d ask them to read the card to her again. She saved every card she got!
Ruth eventually was unable to live on her own and spent four years at a “grandma house” on the acreage where she was born, being cared for by Merlynn and Andy. She progressed to needing additional physical care and moved into the nursing home where she had served others. She had a sharp mind and greatly appreciated those who came to visit and chat with her until the end of her life. Her family appreciates the care and consideration given to Ruth’s well-being by her caretakers at Pleasant View Home, Care Initiatives Hospice, Dr. Schultz, neighbors and friends who came to visit.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Bean; parents, Henry and Mable Anderson; parent-in-laws, George and Lillian Bean; sister, Lois and her husband Maurice Frykberg; sisters-in-law: Inabella (Don) Christiansen; Phyllis (Shorty) Giesking; bother-in-law, Ralph (Marge) Bean. Ruth is survived by her son Merlynn and his wife Andrea “Andy” of Albert City, Iowa; grandchildren: Craig “CJ” (Christine) of Marathon, Iowa; Kaitlyn “Kate” (Mike) Bartling of Ackley, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren: Abbigail Bean, Emma Bartling, Leah Bean. Kooper Bean, Guthrie Bartling, Calvin Bean, and Noel Bean, who each lovingly referred to her as “G.G.”

Burial will be at the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Raymond Jafvert was born to Raymond and Astrid (Werner) Jafvert on September 19th, 1941, at the Spencer, Iowa hospital.
Lloyd had a wonderful childhood in Albert City, Iowa, graduating from Albert City-Truesdale High School in 1959. He studied Pre-Engineering at Gustavus Adolphus College 1959-1961 and received his Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University in 1965. Lloyd received his Master of Architecture, Planning at University of Minnesota in 1969. He met his wife, Gay, in 1968 and they married in Grand Forks, ND on Valentine’s Day in 1970. They resided in Golden Valley, MN for over 30 years, where they raised their daughters, Gina and Rachel. Lloyd was President of Jafvert Mueller Architects, Inc., where he combined his architectural and planning backgrounds into a practice which specialized in architectural design and space planning of office, housing, resort and religious facilities. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was internationally recognized and published as a designer of single and multiple housing structures. Lloyd was an active member of the community, serving on the board of Plymouth Christian Youth Center in North Minneapolis for 25 years and the city of Golden Valley Planning Commission. A series of events led Lloyd and Gay back to his childhood home in Albert City, Iowa in 2010, where they have resided since.
Lloyd led a life devoted to God. He was a wonderful man, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. In his mid-years, he designed and remodeled the homes that his family lived in and enjoyed working on them. He loved spending time on the North Shore of Lake Superior with his close friends, Bob and Sue Nelson, and visiting Bluefin Bay, Surfside and Temperance Landing, resorts he designed. He was always interested in the weather and was the “weatherman” to his family. In his later years, he became very interested in bird watching and became quite the animal whisperer.
Everyone knew Lloyd as a “talker”, his stories were very detailed and often led on long tangents before getting back to the original story. The past few years were difficult for Lloyd as he lost his voice and people had a hard time understanding him, leaving him feeling isolated.
Lloyd was preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Astrid. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gay; daughters: Gina (Ross) Vander Werf of Golden Valley, Minnesota; Rachel Jafvert of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson, Knox Vander Werf; sister, Lorna (Milt) Reed of St. Petersburg, Florida; brother-in-law, Buzz (Linda) Massee of Littleton, Colorado; sister-in-law, Jeannie Finch of Naples, Florida; and many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
