Obituary Preview: Gene Franklin Flynn, 76, of Pinnacle, NC, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, May 16, 2024. His passing has left a void in our community, a testament to the impact he had on our lives.
Mr. Flynn was born on June 13, 1947, to the late Paul Monroe and Annie Whittaker Flynn. He was a volunteer at King Outreach Ministries. Franklin was an avid gardener passionate about his yard and garden. He enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with his friends and neighbors, as they looked forward to receiving his fresh vegetables every year. He loved playing golf until his health interfered.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Flynn, Thomas Flynn, and Wilson Flynn, and his sisters, Shelby Sowder, and Ruby Bowman.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Frankie Flynn; two daughters, Scarlett Barr (Brian) and Stephanie Harper; four grandchildren: Everett Kiser (Courtney), David Kiser (Sarah), Cassidy Harper, and Chaz Harper; six great-grandchildren: Ellie, Everett Jr., Emma, Elizabeth, Ivarson, and Calahan Kiser; and a sister, Ellen Patton.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Slate Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Tim Smith and Rev. Van Smith officiating.

Cortlen's faith in God was the cornerstone of his life. He dedicated himself to spreading the word of God, a testament to his unwavering belief. His dedication extended to the fitness of mind, body, and soul. He was compassionate to all living things and loved by everyone who knew him. He was admired by family and friends and was dedicated to his friends and beloved family. He loved his family and friends like no other. Cortlen was very passionate about his cars, and he had a taste for a fast lifestyle. Cortlen lived his life his way.
Cortlen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carol Moore, Ken Moore, Sr., and Robert Dutton, his uncle Shane Dutton, and a cousin, Easton Sunday.

Mr. Key was born on October 26th, 1949, in Yadkin Township, Stokes County, NC to the late Arnold Ray Key and Alene Irene Beck Key.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his faithful wife of 52 years, Gloria Jean Craddock Key, and a sister, Jeanette Atkins.
He is survived by his son; David Stanley Key; his sister: Rita Cothren: and two brothers: Michael Key and Bobby Key.
He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall, NC.
Memorial services are pending at this time. A commemorative wreath is on display at Gullion’s Christian Supply in King, and written condolences and memories may be offered in an album there.
Donations in his honor may be made to the homeless ministry of the Place of Prayer in King, or at Gullion’s to help provide Bibles for a truck stop ministry.

Mr. Whicker, a man of unwavering dedication, was born at Greensboro Army Hospital on December 31, 1944, to George Grey Whicker and Saphera King Whicker Anthony. Randall, a Marine who served in Jacksonville, FL, during the Vietnam era, was a testament to commitment. After an honorable discharge, he embarked on a career with RJ Reynolds, a journey that lasted until his retirement. In 1966, he sealed a lifelong commitment to the love of his life, Christine Spainhour. Their love story spanned 57 years and blessed them with a daughter, Vanessa.
Randall was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, Max Anthony, a brother-in-law, Randy Sudden, and his best friend/in-law, R. Dewitt Flynt, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Left to cherish his memory are his bride, Christine Spainhour Whicker; his daughter, Vanessa Whicker Flynt, and husband, Michael; his grandsons, Matthew “Matt” Tyler Flynt (Jordan) and Mitchell Grey Flynt (Victoria LaJuan); and the apple of his eye, great-grandson Braxton Dewitt Flynt; one sister, Susan Sidden; and one niece, Erin Ringley.

Avis was born and raised in Forsyth County. She was a member of the class of ’45 at Clemmons High School. In 1946, she married her true love, Bill Spach, and they enjoyed 69 years together until his death. After retiring from Western Electric, she remained active at her church, preparing Moravian chicken pies, deiner at lovefeasts, and helping in the nursery. She loved little children, flowers, good food, family, and many friends.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Gail Moser of King, NC, a brother, Stan Crater of Denver, NC, granddaughter, Melissa Moser Carico (Brian), and grandson, R. Darin Patterson (Tara), along with three great-grandchildren.

Mikey never met a stranger - he made friends everywhere he went. His smile was infectious, and those around him couldn’t help but see the world through his eyes, even if It were just for a moment. Mikey loved all things sweet, all things wrestling, and he loved the ladies too! So many things can be said about such a special soul like Mikey, but to sum it all up, we should all be inspired by his life to live every day with a smile on our faces, love in our hearts, and never worry about what tomorrow may bring. Dexter Gray Newsome - July 16, 1956 - March 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dexter Gray Newsome, age 67 of Tobaccoville, reached the pearly gates of Heaven on his Harley just before dawn on March 24, 2024.
We are sure the first one he ran to would be his grandpa, Gray Schaub Moore, who was Dexter’s idol.
He was preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents, both parents, Louis and the late Nancy Newsome, his former wife whom was a lifelong friend and the mother to his only child, Brenda E. Newsome.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Carly Anne Maurer, husband Michael, grandchildren, Hunter, Paislee, Madison and JonMichael Maurer, a sister, Joyce Shaw (James) and many nieces.
Dexter was a fighter till his very last breath. He lived his life to the fullest and had many accomplishments throughout his time, including traveling the country driving buses and setting up stages for performers such as Alabama, Charlie Daniels, and Loretta Lynn. He graduated with an Associates in Science, Associates in Liberal Arts along with a Bachelors’ in Biology. He retired from Siemens Energy. Dexter enjoyed cooking but his pride and joy was riding his Harley, disheartenedly that would end by the unexpected diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.

She had fond memories of time spent at Virginia Beach, New Orleans, and Buggs Island Lake, where she spent many seasons boating and fishing with loved ones. She was a talented painter, especially known for her beautiful ocean and lighthouse scenes.
She found joy talking on the phone to her friends and relatives, including her sister Jean, long-time friend Martha, deceased friend Audrey, and special nieces Sue and Janie. Her favorite hobby was keeping up with her children and grandchildren, who were the lights of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Younger, half-sister Glenda , and a very special aunt, Nellie Foster, who was like a mother.
Survivors include her son, Todd Younger of Walnut Cove, NC; daughter, Wendy Hallman of Stokesdale, NC; and grandchildren Victoria Hallman and Jackson Hallman; and sisters, Jean Moore of Danville, VA, and Carolyn Redding of Winston Salem, NC. She had several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, VA., with Pastor Linda Suggs officiating.

Edith Virginia Keiger - January 22, 1927 - March 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Edith Virginia Jones was born in a cabin at the base of Pilot Mountain on January 22, 1927, to Wesley E. and Callie S. Jones. A few years later, her parents purchased a farm where Edith and siblings George, Joseph, Pearl, and James worked, played, and attended Mount Zion Methodist Church. Edith graduated as valedictorian of her class at Pinnacle High School. She attended one year at High Point College before marrying Wendell V. Keiger in 1947. She and Wendell lived on the Keiger Family dairy farm near King and had three children: Patricia Keiger, Weldon (Cindy) Keiger, and Elizabeth (Steve) Carroll.
Edith first substituted and then worked 26 years as a teacher assistant at King Primary School. She devoted much time to Trinity United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and especially enjoyed working with the UMW by making rolls, persimmon pudding, and fried apple pies for the church bazaars. After her husband became ill and later died in 2006, Edith assisted Weldon with the milking chores and fed hundreds of bottles of milk to baby calves twice a day over several years. When she wasn’t working in the garden and cooking or preserving food, she enjoyed working with her flowers, feeding the birds, and even using her riding lawnmower up through this past fall at age 96.
Surviving Edith are her children and their spouses and grandchildren Kathryn Weidl, Jennifer (Scott) Keiger-Dowd, Melinda Queliz, Maria (Steven) Simpson, Wesley (Ashley) Carroll; step-grandchildren Anna Schmidt and Katie Russell; 10 great-grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, 1 great great grandchild and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 15, from 6-8:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church in King. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, March 16, at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church in King, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Jane was a devoted wife and mother, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a strong faith in the Lord. Jane was a member of Poplar Springs Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for 70 years. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, and sewing; she loved gardening and canning and found joy in cooking for her beloved family.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, James Lewis Craver; two sons, Timothy Lee Craver (Michelle) and Eric Lewis Craver (Yvonne); four grandchildren: Nicholas Craver, Grayson Craver (Emoline), Justin Craver, and Megan Vineyard (Jason); and Granny cherished the time with her seven great-grandchildren: Briley Puckett, Roman Vineyard, Lucas Craver, Preston Vineyard, Taitum Vineyard, Elias Craver, and Jaxton Vineyard.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Trellis Supportive Care for their support and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Poplar Springs Christian Church, with Minister Griffin Gilstrap and Minister Don Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones following the service. The interment will be in the church cemetery.

He was known as a man with a great sense of humor, honor, and gentleness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenny Cloud and Steve Cloud; and a step-grandchild, Cheyenne Hoots.
