Frank Henry Hirschenberger - March 06, 1942 - January 22, 2024

Departed: 01/22/2024 (Saginaw)
Obituary Preview: Frank Henry Hirschenberger, 81 years, formerly of Shields, Michigan, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Lifecare Center Nursing Facility in Plano, Texas, after a courageous four-year battle with a series of health issues. Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, as well as a fiercely independent and intelligent man who had a witty and humorous side to him. He is now finally at rest. Frank was born on March 6, 1942, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of the late Joseph and Ruth Hirschenberger. He was a 1960 graduate of Saginaw High School.
On December 4, 1958, Frank married the love of his life and soul-mate, Dianna Victoria Cherry. Their love story began in junior high school and resulted in a marriage of 65 remarkable years. Together, they built a life filled with adventure and joy. Frank and Dianna spent many of their days together in Northern Michigan, initially at their cherished cabin on Rifle Lake in Lupton, eventually settling into their dream retirement home on Cedar Lake in Greenbush. Here, Frank found solace in the beauty of nature, reveling in boating, fishing, hunting, and creating treasured memories with family and friends.
Frank possessed an incredible problem-solving ability, using his unparalleled cleverness and ingenuity to fix almost anything that came his way. He was often found inside one of his many tool-filled garages, applying his vast skill and knowledge of all things electro-mechanical, building and fixing projects. He was a true genius in this respect. Franks knack and knowledge for the garage was rooted deep in his childhood from working closely with his father Joseph, another electro-mechanical genius.
Nothing brought Frank greater joy than spending time with his beloved grandchildren, taking them on adventurous fishing trips, water skiing excursions, and exhilarating tubing rides on his boatsor just leisurely cruising the lake on his pontoon boat. He relished every moment shared with his family, creating unforgettable memories that will forever be cherished. Every now and then, Frank liked to live life in the fast lane by driving his Red Corvette to the nearby casino and playing the slot machines.
Throughout his life, Frank showed remarkable skills and passions in various pursuits. With a daring spirit, he fearlessly embarked on thrilling adventures, including snowmobiling, motorcycling, and hunting. His love for the water led him to become an avid boater and a remarkable fisherman. He was also a NASCAR enthusiast. Speed ice-skating, water skiing, and football in his youth added to the colorful tapestry of his life.
Starting his career as a newspaper delivery boy, Frank worked his way up to becoming a Cafeteria Supervisor at Saginaw Steering Gear. He then joined General Motors where he became a well-respected Journeyman Electrician at several GM facilities, most notably Grey Iron and Nodular Iron Casting Plants in Saginaw, Michigan. He especially enjoyed training the young apprentices. He retired in 2002 with 39 years of dedicated service. He was a proud member of UAW Local 668.
Frank's belief in the Lord brought him strength and comfort through all of life's ups and downs.
Frank will forever be remembered for his practical, outgoing, and friendly ways. His legacy will forever live on.
To carry on his legacy, Frank leaves his wife, Dianna and their children, Lynette Traub, Pam (Matthew) Kennedy, and Frank (Kryle) Hirschenberger; grandchildren, Franklin Traub, Michael (Brittany) Traub, Shawn (Thay) Stewart, Shannon Stewart, Rose (Justin) Hammond, Lucy (Jordan) Hirschenberger Hinrichs, Jane Hirschenberger; five great-grandchildren, brother, William (Frieda) Hirschenberger; sister-in-law Margie Hirschenberger, sister-in-law Susan Robnolte, sister-in-law Sheryl (Tom) Newvine, along with many nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Hirschenberger; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Victor and Louise Cherry, and in-laws, Jeanette (Jack) Douglas, Ron Moeller, Harold Robnolte, and Victor Cherry II.
