John's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He had an innate ability to fix almost anything, from household plumbing to electrical issues, a talent that often came in handy for his family and friends. His younger years were spent enjoying the outdoors, where he found pleasure in fishing and golfing. John also had a fondness for visiting casinos.

He was a devout member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer for 40 years where he served on church council, prior to relocating to Canfield, Ohio.
