Jim Trotta was a storyteller, a retired business executive, and a committed Christian who loved his Lord Jesus Christ. Jim's passion for storytelling began at age 8 telling bedtime stories to his little sister, and continued with true life stories that he has shared over the years with his wife Becky, their seven children and twelve grandchildren. Upon retirement, Jim continued to coach business executives as a strategy consultant while moonlighting as a screenwriter. Jim served his country in a combat zone as a United States Airman in the Vietnam War. His interest in travel as it relates to flight, aerospace, and helping others continued during his career in business consulting. It was during those many road-warrior business plane trips that Jim's love for telling stories and hearing stories put him on a later path as an author. In his community, Jim offered support as a lay leader in his church. Over the years, Jim had worked as an adjunct professor for several universities by teaching various undergraduate and MBA business courses. He continued to participate as an active member of a business advisory board at a major university in Pittsburgh. Jim had a love for cooking and was the famous pizza maker in the family, a tradition passed down from his father.

Jerry Alan Johnson - September 02, 1944 - April 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: J. Alan (Jerry) Johnson, 79, passed away peacefully on April 22nd, 2024, surrounded by friends and family at his home in Pittsburgh after battling dementia. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Kristen; cherished sons, Jason (Elizabeth) and Christopher (Mimi); and adored grandchildren, Nick, Liv, and Kai.
After graduating from North Hills High School, he attended Valley Forge Military Academy and later earned his bachelor's degree from Kent State University in 1968. In 1971, he received his juris doctorate from the Duquesne University School of Law. His legal career began in the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, where he was an Assistant District Attorney. Upon leaving the District Attorney’s office, he joined the U.S. Federal Strike Force and later became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania where he was subsequently appointed by President Ronald Reagan to become U.S. Attorney. He led successful prosecutions in several high-profile cases, most notably the 1985 Pittsburgh drug trials, which gained national attention for exposing the prevalence of cocaine in Major League Baseball. Jerry also chaired the U.S. Attorney General’s Advisory Committee and was an adjunct professor of law at Duquesne University School of Law.
Jerry was a passionate car enthusiast, an amateur pilot, and a fan of the Rat Pack, especially Dean Martin. His work ethic, intellect, and love of storytelling left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
After his dementia diagnosis, Jerry joined BRiTE (BRiTE Wellness Center, a program designed for seniors with mild cognitive issues), a life-changing organization where he spent long hours and made many lasting friendships.

Obituary Preview: Peacefully on April 9, 2024 Joseph Wayne Smith, 89, of Glenshaw. Born on May 2, 1934 in McKees Rocks to Joseph Peter and Gladys (Jones) Smith. He graduated from Langley High School class of June 1952. His career started at Bell Telephone directly after graduation. From 1955-1957 he served in the US Army. Upon an honorable discharge after serving in the Army Reserves until 1963, he continue to work for Bell Telephone until his retirement in 1992. He married Rebecca Jane Galley from Dickerson Run, Fayette Co, on April 5, 1958 and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Together, they started their married life on Runnymeade St. in Ingram. In 1968 they moved to Shaler Twp and resided there until moving to Glenshaw in 2002. Wayne was an avid golfer and an exceptional duck-pin bowler and a member of the Etna Elks and F&AM. He also was a skilled card player enjoying double pinochle and 500 and working the New York Times crossword. He fancied a perfect Manhattan or a good old Iron City beer. He will be remembered as a soft-spoken gentleman with a quick sense of humor. He was proceeded in death by his parents; stepmother Eleanor Jones Smith; brothers Wallace Jones, Blair (Ted) Jones, and Robert Smith; and son-in-law Keith Dougherty. He survived by his wife Rebecca; sons Stuart (Katie) Smith and Scott (Necia) Smith; daughter Susan (Kurt Grottenthaler) Dougherty; grandchildren Owen Dougherty, Alainna Dougherty, Madelyn Smith, Elsie Smith, and Luke Smith; sister Shirley (Illig) McNutt; and many nieces & nephews. Wesley Albert Erskine , Sr. - May 13, 1943 - April 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Wesley Albert Erskine Sr., 80, of Cranberry Township and formerly of the North Side, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
Wes was born in Pittsburgh to the late Wesley and Emma Erskine.
Following high school, Wes attended Johnson University where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ministry and Preaching. Wes lived a distinguished life. First and foremost, he served Jesus and he raised his children and grandchildren to serve the Lord. He impacted many lives as a preacher and also as the friendliest mailman. He worked for 35 years with the United States Postal Service before retiring. He was fortunate to travel much of the United States and also to Israel. Throughout his adult life, he lived in Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Georgia, before ultimately returning home to Pennsylvania.
In 1977, he met the love of his life, Debbie Anderson. The two were married on August 17, 1977 and have celebrated 46 years of marriage. They raised three children: Rebekah (Bernie) Riley of Zelienople, Wesley (Michelle) Erskine of Pittsburgh, and Stephen (Emily) Erskine of Canonsburg.
You would often see Wes eating popcorn in the stands watching his children play sports, and more recently his grandchildren. He was an amateur golfer in every sense and never shied from buying new devices to help him improve his game. He was an avid bowler, and he greatly enjoyed model trains. He had an impressive train display, even if it never reached full completion, always a work in progress. Near the top of the list of his accomplishments was his gospel album, released in the 1970s. Proud military father and grandfather of Wes (Army), Stephen (Army), son-in-law, Bernie Jr. (Air Force), and his grandson, Ethan (Air Force).
Wes was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren: Ethan (Thera), Bernie, Lillian, Victoria, Wesley, Micah, Jaden, Olivia, Christian, Isaac, Rosalee, and Adelyn. He is also survived by son, Tracey and Helen Boggard and their children, Tracey Jr. and Cody, and a great-granddaughter; siblings, IvaGeanne Savoca, Charlene Trask, and William Erskine, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Obituary Preview: On March 31, 2024, Michael Robert Kozlow, age 76, of Franklin Park, left our world and was greeted into heaven. Michael battled a 4.5-year fight with Mesothelioma surpassing the 1.5
years that was given to him. Mike was born in Jamestown, NY, and grew up in the rural town of Kennedy, NY. He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Sandra W. Kozlow; father of Brenda (Kevin) Mullay and Susan (Oskar) Zayas; brother of Dean (Pam) Kozlow and Christine (Greg) Nelson; grandfather of
Jordan, Brady and Ryan Mullay and Gianna Zayas. Mike was raised to be a hard-working, respectful, and dedicated man. He started his career as a draftsman for the Carborundum Company where he climbed the ladder to become a Ceramic Engineer and a sales expert in the industry of ceramic fiber insulation. He devoted 40 years and retired from the Unifrax Corporation in 2010. In 2011, he missed his career and friends so much
that he returned to work; retiring for good in 2019 from the Chiz Bros. Company. Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved and respected nature. He spent his pastime hunting, fishing, and golfing and was an active and successful trap shooter. He passed his passions on to his grandchildren, especially the boys. You could always see him puttering around the yard or sitting outside taking in all the animals that would migrate past him. Anybody who knew him
knows he ALWAYS carried; a knife, toothpick, comb, and nail clippers in his pocket at all times.
It was said, “Mike was a great guy and once you met him you would never forget him”. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 8th, at 11 am at the North Side Sportsmen’s Association in

Beloved husband to Lynn for 55 years, devoted father to Michele (Robert) King and Michael (Dannielle) Miller, adored “Pappy” to Courtney (Drew) Sandora and Mackenzie King, big brother to Thomas J. (Sharyn) Miller, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Born March 9, 1941, in Mt. Lebanon, he was the son of the late Paul C. Miller and Virginia Holtzman Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Miller.
Paul graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy and earned a B.A. from Washington & Jefferson College in the early 1960’s. After college he served as a Captain in the Army, and shortly after met his wife, Lynn in 1967 in Connecticut. Paul knew they were the perfect match after their first date which included Lynn beating him at tennis (6-1) and enjoying a meal at IHOP. They were married one year later, lived in NYC for about a year, and settled down in Pittsburgh in 1969.
Paul was a man who found happiness in the presence of family and friends, spending summers at the lake, casting a line into the water, cracking open a cold beer, giving a dog a treat (or 5), and vacationing in Arizona and Florida.
