Susann M. Foote - December 10, 1940 - April 12, 2022

Departed: 04/12/2022 (Barberton)
Obituary Preview: WADSWORTH---Susann M. Foote, 81, passed away on April 12, 2022 and Heaven gained a Angel. Although she will be beyond missed, we have comfort in knowing that she is with her mother and father Theresa and Edwin Hammer and her special aunt and uncle Margaret and Fred Blake who passed away many years ago. Susann was born December 10, 1940 in Barberton and graduated from St. Mary’s high school in 1957.  She married right after high school and raised five children.  In 1975 she started a long career in the automobile business, where she met her husband, Ron Foote.  She retired in 2003 from Lambert Buick GMC. She was truly one of a kind; A strong-willed woman who lived every day of her life with grace and grit.  Her greatest accomplishment was raising five children as a mostly single mother.  She always did whatever she had to do to make sure that they had the best of everything.  Her strength and determination only ended with her final breath.  It was amazing to witness how truly strong of a woman she was. Her spirit and love of life was wonderful.  She never met a stranger and always made the best out of everything….her simple pleasure was a glass of wine or a beer and she loved to go out to dinner at her favorite restaurant and to sit in her reserved seat by the fireplace. Sue passed peacefully with her family by her side.  She leaves behind her husband of 25 years Ronald Foote and her brother Tim (Candy) Hammer.  She also leaves her children Debbie Cunningham, Don (Brenda) Watts, Vickie Watts and her twins Janet (Tom) Howell and Mark (Sioux) Watts.  She was known as Nana to her grandchildren, Jennifer, Tim, Jacoby, Jace, Jayden, Alexa and Samantha. In her life, family wasn’t defined by blood, her "other" kids meant as much as her own Annette (Paul) Rosebrock and Skye; Greg Foote and his kids Gavin, Kya, and Ava; Jeff (Teri) Foote, Erika, Chasity, Peyton, and Jeff Jr….aka JJ; and great grandchild Tyson. She might be gone but she will never be forgotten….”STRONG LIKE BULL”….Rest in Peace. Calling hours for Susann will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the SILVA - HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 19, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Doylestown.

Her patience and kindness was surely inspired by her own mother, a schoolteacher who always said, “you never want to break their [children’s] spirit.” Kathleen honored her mother with unwavering love towards her family. Kathleen shared with her family her tastes in music, her knack for baking, enthusiasm for bird watching, and her green thumb. She especially enjoyed her backyard crabapple tree where she fed and watched the birds while listening to their beautiful songs. In her later years she loved watching old movies with her husband Bob, and their dog, Sweetie, and always looked forward to the companionship of family dinners where her sense of humor continued to shine through. Kathy’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton. Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Calling Hours Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Private burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Church.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, accomplishments, and funeral or memorial service arrangements.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy for future generations.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, an obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, a friend or colleague may also write an obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about their personality, achievements, and charitable contributions.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the wishes of the family. Typically, it ranges from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful to readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The process for submitting an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. You can usually find submission guidelines on their website or by contacting their customer service department directly.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, word count, and any additional features such as photos or special layouts. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $1,000 or more.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to ensure that their life story is told accurately and in their own words. This can be a therapeutic exercise and can also help to reduce the burden on loved ones during a difficult time.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, typically including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides a fuller picture of the person's life.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary is a celebration of the person's life, so feel free to include humorous stories or personal anecdotes that capture their spirit and personality.

How do I handle sensitive or controversial information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive or controversial aspects of the person's life that you're unsure how to address in the obituary, consider consulting with other family members or a trusted advisor for guidance.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the person's memory and continue their legacy.

How long after the funeral should I wait before publishing an obituary?

There is no specific timeframe for publishing an obituary after the funeral. Some families prefer to publish it immediately, while others may wait until after the funeral or memorial service has taken place.

Can I publish an obituary online only?

Yes! Many online platforms allow you to publish an obituary without printing it in a physical newspaper. This can be a cost-effective option and allows for greater flexibility in terms of content and layout.

How do I ensure that my loved one's obituary is accurate?

To ensure accuracy, proofread the obituary carefully before submitting it for publication. You may also want to have multiple family members review it for errors or omissions.

What if I need to make changes to an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or online platform where the obituary was published as soon as possible if you need to make corrections or updates. They will guide you through their process for making changes.

Can I reuse an existing obituary template or example?

You can use existing templates or examples as inspiration, but be sure to customize the content to fit your loved one's unique life story and personality.

How do I preserve my loved one's online obituary for future generations?

What if my loved one didn't want a traditional funeral or memorial service?

In this case, you may still want to consider publishing an obituary as a way to announce their passing and celebrate their life. You could also consider alternative forms of remembrance such as a private gathering or online tribute.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with your loved one's personality or interests.

How do I handle requests for donations or gifts in lieu of flowers?

If you've specified that donations should be made in lieu of flowers, be prepared to receive requests from friends and family who want to contribute. You can direct them to the designated charity or memorial fund.

What if my loved one had no immediate family members left behind?

In this case, consider asking friends, colleagues, or caregivers to help write and submit the obituary. They may have valuable insights into your loved one's life and personality.

Can I republish an old obituary from years ago?

You can republish an old obituary as part of a larger tribute or anniversary celebration. Be sure to update any outdated information and obtain necessary permissions from relevant parties.
