Obituary Preview: Lila Borneman, 96, of Dumont, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at the Waverly Health Center. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont. Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery.
Lila attended schools in Aplington. On October 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to August Borneman in Dumont. To this union, three sons were born. Lila was the definition of a farmer's wife; she raised her children and helped her husband on the farm. Together they raised chickens, hogs and cattle. She often said she spent many an hour cleaning eggs. Lila also babysat other children for over 25 years.
She enjoyed playing cards and going with Julie to the card parties in Dumont at the Legion and in Hansell. She could beat you about every time in Yahtzee too. She really enjoyed reading and loved the Farm & Ranch and Country magazines. She enjoyed watching baseball with her brother Rueben and baking, especially the sugar (sandy) cookies her sons and great-grandson love. Lila was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont.
Lila is survived by her son Doug (Darla) Borneman of Dumont; son Dalton (Lorraine) Borneman of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; granddaughter Julie (Kris) Kramm of Nora Springs; grandson Jason (Kari) Borneman of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; great-grandchildren Alexander Kramm of Mason City, Samantha (Jordan) Kramm of Mason City and Alexandra Borneman of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Dale Leland Stock, 95, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 6, 2021, at his home in Dumont. He was born on November 14, 1925, in Dumont, to Carl and Hazel (Miller) Stock.
Dale graduated from Dumont High School. He joined the Navy and served during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
Dale was united in marriage to Claire Kavenaugh on June 4, 1947, in Allison. He farmed on the century family farm with his parents all of their life, as well as his. Dale and Claire also purchased a farm, known as the Shamrock Hill farm, not far away and they all farmed together their entire life.
Dale was a member of the Aredale and Dumont American Legion for seventy-four years and was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton. He was also part of a rosary group consisting of Dale, Claire Stock, Pat Angstman, Bernita Peterson, Marj Kampman and Dwight Peterson, who met every Tuesday.
Dale loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities.
Dale is survived by his son David (Jo) Stock of Waterloo, daughter Debra Stock of Bristow, grandchildren Josh (Beth) Ott of Dumont, Heather (Travis) Buseman of Dumont, Katy (Zach) Peterson of Hudson and Molly Stock Brouwer of Waverly, great-grandchildren Abby, Brittney, Linzee, Emma, Malie, Olivia, Jax, Haivyn and Cannon, great great-grandchildren David and Isabelle, nieces and nephews Mark (Lori), Steve, Sue (Jerry), Sandy (Don), Mike (Margie) and Janet, along with many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Hazel, wife Claire in 2004, and sister Iris (Bud) Ailtz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Burial with military honors will take place in the Dumont Cemetery. Gary graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School. He was united in marriage to Virginia Sederburg in Red Oak, on June 16, 1967. To this union, four sons were born. Gary was a truck driver, feed salesman, farmer, cut meat for Farmland, worked for the airlines. He was a member of the Drivers Club, on the Dumont Library board and a member of the Butler County Republican Committee. He was an active member of Washington Reformed Church in rural Ackley where he served as a deacon, elder, and sunday-school teacher. Gary loved horses and enjoyed sports and spending time with his family. He attended nearly all of his kid's events and relished the opportunity to attend his grandkid's events.
Gary loved nothing more than to sit down and chat with someone. Whether you were an old friend or a new acquaintance, he was always eager to hear about how you were doing. He always had plenty of questions in order to find out more details.
Gary is survived by his wife Virginia Ploeger of Dumont; sons Michael (Fay) Ploeger of Edgerton, Wisconsin, Steven (Lynne) Ploeger of Altoona, Trenton (Kristi) Ploeger of Springfield, Minnesota, and Matthew (Jennifer) Ploeger of Madison, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren Nathan, Josiah, Simeon, James, Megan, Lauren, Creighton, Jacob and Emma; two great grandchildren Malachi and Nora; brother Lester (Leanna) Ploeger of Webster City; mother-in-law Blanche Sederburg of Omaha; sisters and brother-in-law Betty Jane (Woody) Johansen, Linda (Howard) Myers, and James (Joy) Sederburg and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Doratha (Claire) Carolus.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont.

Obituary Preview: Philipp Heinrich Wanner, 88, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Dumont Wellness Center. He was born on May 10, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to Carl and Gerda (Bloen) Wanner. At the age of six months Philipp moved to Germany and lived there for nearly fourteen years, when he came back to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island.
Philipp served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He met Shirley Darlene DeVries, and they were married on March 5, 1954, in Aplington.
Philipp spent the majority of his working career in sales. He worked for Dick Vogel at the funeral home and furniture store in Dumont, Morey Nassif in Cedar Rapids, H.E. Sorenson in Des Moines, Flexsteel in Pennsylvania, Corian, and Harvester Systems out of Nashua, and owned and operated Phil's Fine Furniture in Dumont, purchasing the former Vogel furniture store. He was also a bricklayer, helping build churches in Radcliffe and Hubbard, worked for Oliver in Charles City, worked for Harm Hemmen Gas station, managed a La Quinta in Tennessee, worked for Sukup Manufacturing, unloaded train cars of coal on the weekends and delivered Sunday papers for the Waterloo Courier. Philipp finished his working career at Murray Feiss Lighting, traveling to numerous states in the Midwest.
Philipp was a Mason, a Shriner and a Gideon. He was a member of the Dumont American Legion and the Dumont Reformed Church, where he taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School superintendent for many years. Philipp was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing. He loved being on the water whether it was boating, skiing or swimming, it didn't matter. Philipp greatly enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally, especially numerous trips to Germany. He even found time to be Mayor of Dumont two different times.
Philipp will be missed by his wife of sixty-seven years, Shirley Wanner of Dumont, children Gay Palmer of Latimer, Gwen (Mike) Thornburgh of Dumont, Glenda (Steve) Hatfield of Earlham, and Gary (Lori) Wanner of Williamsburg, son-in-law Rod Muller of Hampton, sister Maria Blunck of California, brother Uwe (Donna) Kladde of Arizona, brother-in-law Raymond (Emma) DeVries of Greene, sister-in-law Patsy (Lloyd) Grandon of Dike, grandchildren Sonia, Terry (Beth), Chase (Lisa), Sandy (Steven), Heidi (Jared), Shane, Sarah, Lane, Derek (Kasi), Wade (Kortney), and Leah (Griffin), great-grandchildren Alex, Jorge, Mason, Josiah, Bode, Ethan, Aaron, Teagan, Cora, Blake, Landon, River, Archer, Adele and Preston, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Gerda, stepfather, son Terry Phil Wanner, daughter Brenda Sue Wanner, daughter Gerda Ann Muller, son-in-law Ron Palmer, in-laws Carl and Stella DeVries, brothers-in-law Rudy Blunck and Dick Froning and sister-in-law Janice DeVries.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 12, 2021, at the Dumont Cemetery. Family and friends should bring a chair.

Lanny Blohm - June 19, 1938 - March 30, 2021

Obituary Preview: Lanny Ross Blohm, 82, of Dumont, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont. He was born on June 19, 1938, in Dumont, to Lewie and Gertrude (Borneman) Blohm. Lanny attended country school and Dumont Community School.
Lanny had four children Kim, Shelly, Todd and Randy. He met Betty Winkowitsch and they were married on April 1, 1972, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. This union joined their two families together, giving Lanny five stepchildren Jim, Valarie, Lloyd, Wanda, and Troy.
Lanny delivered milk for the Kesley Creamery, worked for several farmers in the Hampton area, and worked for Greis Construction in Des Moines, as a drywall hanger and finisher. He retired after almost thirty years, on May 31, 2000.
Lanny was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont and was active in many groups and events. He renewed his faith and was saved on November 13, 1995.
Lanny enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, raising chickens, fixing cars, attending fairs and farm sales, and watching figure 8 races. He also enjoyed old tractors and machinery, as well as his cats.
Lanny is survived by his wife of almost forty-nine years, Betty Blohm of Dumont, daughter Kim Christianson, daughter-in-law Mary Blohm, son-in-law Kevin Brannick, sisters Linda Gabe of Dumont, Brenda Blohm Baldwin (Fred) of Dumont, Marla Blohm (J.R.) of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, stepchildren Jim (Jane) Eilderts, Valarie (Don) Ziegenhorn, Lloyd (Jo Ann Wallis) Eilderts, Wanda Johnson, and Troy (Lisa) Harkin. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, nine great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lewie and Gertrude, son Todd, son Randy, daughter Shelly Brannick and granddaughter Alana Johnson Weaver.

Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She made clothing, Halloween costumes, afghans, and even cabbage patch kids dolls from kits she had purchased. Shirley's favorite time of the year was Christmas and she enjoyed sharing presents and homemade pies and cookies with everyone she knew and even some she didn't know; no one ever went without. She had a big heart and will be missed by many.
Shirley is survived by her husband, of almost forty-nine years, Gary Clemens of Wellsburg, sons James Clemens of Waterloo, Matthew Clemens of Wellsburg, Todd Oldenburger of Muscatine, and Michael Oldenburger of Primghar, sister Phyllis (Randy) Tansey of Brandon, grandchildren Tanner Clemens, Maddie Clemens, Nicholas Biber, Natalie Lane, Jake Oldenburger, Janessa Oldenburger, and Jasmine Oldenburger. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
