Barbara Jean Gaylord - August 01, 1929 - April 02, 2022

Departed: 04/02/2022 (Kellogg)
Obituary Preview: Barbara Jean (Walker) Gaylord August 1, 1929 – April 2, 2022
Barbara Jean (Walker) Gaylord was a remarkable woman.  Born August 1, 1929 to Levi and Margaret Walker, she was the fifth of nine children.  The family lived in La Grande, Oregon until 1946, when they moved to Medimont, Idaho.
The backdrop of her childhood was the Great Depression, and she was a teenager during the war years.  Through all of that, Barb developed a deep and lifelong love of family.  Both her parents died by the time Barb turned 21, but the most basic life lessons they taught her stayed with her all her life.
Barb met her husband, George Gaylord, while she was a senior at Rose Lake High School.  He was behind the candy counter at his parent’s store, and she always said, “One look in those brown eyes was all it took!”  They were married on August 20, 1948 and immediately started a family.  Eventually, they moved to Smelterville; and then to their home at Montgomery Gulch, where they lived for nearly 60 years.
Barbara loved being a mother and homemaker, and was devoted to her husband and four children.  She also worked for 20 years as an optometric assistant for Drs. Cassady and Pearson; then as librarian for 10 years at the Kellogg Public Library.
She loved music of all kinds; loved to dance; she loved and appreciated books and poetry; and she absolutely loved to bake!  She never paid a visit without having made some delectable baked goods to bring with her.  Barb was a natural with children and she reveled in teaching her grandchildren how to knit, cook, sew, bake and watch the clouds.  She was kind, gentle and wise in her love and guidance.  Barb also had a knack of making friends, and had several dear life-long friendships that she cherished.
Even through the fog and confusion brought on by dementia in the last few years of her life, Barb never lost her sense of joy, her love of family, her appreciation of even the simplest pleasures, and her impish sense of humor.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of nearly 70 years, George Gaylord.  She is survived by her four children- Allen Gaylord, Mike Gaylord, Walt Gaylord, and Lee Gaylord – and by their spouses; by 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one brother, Jim Walker, who lives in La Grande, Oregon.
In Keeping with Barb’s wishes, there will be no funeral.  Her ashes will be co-mingled with George’s and spread by the family in a private setting.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Lodge Assisted Living of Coeur d’ Alene and Hospice of North Idaho, for their love and wonderful care that was given to Barb.
A favorite quote of Barb’s to share with you: “In this life, nothing good is ever lost.  It stays a part of a person; becomes part of their character.  So part of you goes everywhere with me, and part of me is yours forever.”  Barbara Jean (Walker) Gaylord was a remarkable woman. Departed: 03/23/2022 (Kellogg)
Obituary Preview: Kim Kirsch passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. She was born July 21, 1955. The ugliness of pulmonary fibrosis took her at the age of 66. She never let it stop her from staying active to the end. She is survived by Stanton Edwardson (Junior), who has been her best friend, husband and companion for the last 30 years. A daughter Michelle (Jimmy) Dean, and granddaughters Morgyn and Moriah Dean (her M and Ms), who all live in Wyoming. A son Matthew Von Decker who ranches south of Circle Montana. Brother Mike (Diana) Kirsch and sister Michelle Kirsch of Montana. Also, her niece Stacy Medina and her children. She was preceded in death by both parents, sister Denise Schmidt, and nephew Wayne Michael.
I have always thanked my parents Clayton (Bud) and Sascha Kirsch for moving to Montana when I was fourteen years old. My cousin Gina Kirsch and I rode all over the Mission Mountains on our horses, back in the day when that was allowed. Also, I had too much fun staying at my other cousins, the Snyders (Eldon & Ruthie), Kathy, Kris, Kay, Kelly, Kim, and Kenny in Ronan, Montana. I had a lot of fun fishing and driving back roads with my dogs. I had a job with the Flathead National Forest for five summers as a fire look-out. That was the best job ever! I was also an OTR truck driver, a school bus driver, and a store security for Fred Meyer. I had a lot of good jobs and I did many different things. The last part of my life was spent in Kellogg, Idaho helping Stan run the Historic Kellogg Rio Hotel for the past 20 years. We have had a many good laughs with this job, and worked for the best people! Thank you Dibs, Q-Bear, Tom & Tina, Debbie, and all the other owners for that wonderful job and great retirement!
I have had a fun childhood, a stressful young adulthood and a great mid-life. My children have made me extremely proud by who they are as people and by their accomplishments and of course, best of all, my grandchildren. Thank you God for all the different people that I have crossed paths with. If I have hurt anyone, I apologize, and if I made you smile, I am happy. My daughter and I talked about how God is always pursuing us and it’s important to stop and listen. So onto the next stage….
I want to thank God for all my pets that I loved. Please give a hug to your animals and help take care of those that need some love. In memory_ of me, you can give a donation in Jim Dandy’s (my dog) and my name to Shoshone Pet Rescue, Kellogg ID.
Her family will always remember Kim as a spirited storyteller that took you on a vacation full of laughter. She would champion for the underdogs and generously give without hesitation. She is greatly loved and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends, but her peace can be found in the nature around us. Departed: 03/10/2022 (Kellogg)
Obituary Preview: Marqueta (Scholl) Martinez, 72, of Osburn passed away on March 10, 2022, in Spokane. Marqueta was born in Deadwood, South Dakota, on November 25, 1949, to Fred and Louise Scholl.
The Scholl family moved to the Silver Valley when Marqueta was just three years-old, briefly stopping in Mullan before continuing west and settling in Osburn. Marqueta attended the Wallace School District and was a member of the Wallace High School Class of 1968.
Following high school, Marqueta was a bit of a rolling stone, moving around constantly and really taking in as much of the world as she possibly could.
In 1979, while living in New Mexico, Marqueta met the love of her life, Prospero Martinez (Pete). The two were wed on February 20, 1980, in Milan, New Mexico. They returned to North Idaho for a bit, living in Coeur d’Alene before returning to the South West, where Pete’s children lived. In 1984, they adopted their daughter AriAna.
Following Pete’s sudden passing in a car accident, Marqueta and AriAna moved back to North Idaho to be closer to her family.
Marqueta worked for mining companies Atlas Mining and Fausett International, beginning as a bookkeeper and then rising all the way to the position of administrative assistant.
Always one with a quick wit and a wicked sense of humor, one of her favorite jokes was to tell people that despite her name she wasn’t hispanic, although she did have a little Mexican in her from time to time.
Whether it was family or friends, Marqueta was incredibly social – and she loved chatting with just about anyone concerning just about anything. She was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed challenging herself with new hobbies like pottery, painting, gardening, macrame, or refinishing furniture. Music was wildly important to Marqueta, and although she wasn’t musically inclined herself – she never missed an opportunity to go to a concert or listen to her favorite songs at home as loudly as possible.
Marqueta loved her grandchildren very much and always had an eye for anything she thought that they may like.
Marqueta is preceded in death by her father (Fred, 1990) and mother (Louise, 2008), as well as her brothers (David, 1978; Larry, 2007), and granddaughter (Mallyn, 2013).
