Pamela C. Rafanello - November 05, 1958 - April 21, 2024

Departed: 04/21/2024 (Roseland)
Obituary Preview: Pamela C. Rafanello, age 65 of Mendham, New Jersey, passed from this life on April 21, 2024 while surrounded by her loving husband, Greg Campisi, sons Michael and Nicholas Rafanello, stepdaughter Jamie Campisi and daughter-in-law Heather Rafanello. Kind, selfless, caring, talented and exceptional in all ways, Pam’s inherent goodness was evident to anyone that had the good fortune of knowing her personally or interacting with her professionally.
The daughter of Carmine and Marie Capone, Pam was born and raised in Orange, New Jersey. She graduated from East Orange Catholic High School in 1976, and as a young lady helped to organize and spearhead her father’s multiple successful campaigns for Mayor of Orange. She moved to Florida in her 20’s and embarked on dual careers as a real estate agent and executive assistant at the nationally prominent law firm of Holland and Knight. Pam moved back to New Jersey in the 1990’s and joined the law firm of Sharkey and Campisi in Roseland in the latter part of that decade, serving as a mainstay of the team in her roles as senior executive assistant, Office Manager and firm Administrator over a 25-year career.
Pam raised her sons, Michael and Nicholas, in Roseland where she was embraced by the community, and made several lifelong friends. Her boys were outstanding baseball players, and Pam rarely missed a game, spring, summer or fall. She became a knowledgeable baseball fan, and enjoyed watching her sons make major contributions to the 2009 State Sectional Championship team and the 2010 Group II state championship team that was recognized as the No. 1 team in the State of New Jersey. When her stepdaughter, Jamie Campisi, embarked upon a tennis career at Lehigh University, Pam again rarely missed a match or tournament, traveling up and down the east coast and to Florida and California in support of some outstanding Mountain Hawk teams, while enjoying the culinary scene at every destination.
Pam was good at everything. She was an excellent and creative cook, particularly her Italian dishes. A superior problem solver, she could troubleshoot any imaginable computer problem and fix anything in the office or at home. She was a talented gardener, a gifted interior decorator, and was a thorough, patient and understanding teacher. Her work product was always detailed, precise and accurate, and she had the ability to flawlessly turn out a significant volume of work in a very short time, particularly with pressurized jobs that were time or deadline sensitive.
Pam loved people, and was blessed with many good friends, both in her childhood and her adult life. She also loved to travel, particularly with her blended family, which led to a lifetime of fond memories that were recorded in impeccably prepared photo albums.
Sadly, Pam contracted multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, in July of 2021. For the next 2 ¾ years, she fought tirelessly and courageously, spurred on by her ferocious love of family and friends, and her powerful faith in God and Jesus. Ultimately, she was called home, where she will now watch over her loved ones (yes, that is indeed a very large group!).
Pam was predeceased by her father, Carmine, and her first husband, Glenn Rafanello. In addition to her mother Marie, husband Greg and her children, Pam is survived by her daughter-in-law, Heather Rafanello, her brothers Gary and Mark Capone, sisters-in-law Denise and Karen Capone, brother-in-law Jeff Campisi and sister-in-law Betsy Campisi, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, including her aunt, Joanne Carolanza, who was like a sister to her, and her nephew Lucas Capone and niece Tahlia Capone.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 28 from 1-5 p.m. at the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, N.J. and a service/celebration of Pam’s life will be conducted on Monday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m., also at the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, with internment to follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J.

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and provide an opportunity for loved ones to pay tribute and share memories.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by the family members or close friends of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. The writer will gather information from the family and create a concise and respectful summary of the person's life.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, burial arrangements, and any charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or memorial websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the notice and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?
