Rick E. "Meat" Hougland - June 17, 1953 - April 08, 2022

Obituary Preview: Rick E. “Meat” Hougland, 68, Kokomo, passed away on Friday April 8, 2022, at his home.  He was born June 17, 1953, in Bedford, In. to the late Buck and Roberta (Roberts) Hougland.   On March 3, 1973, in Kokomo, he married Betty Dick, and she survives.
Rick was a 1971 graduate of Kokomo High School.  He worked for ILSMD a logistics company since 2014. He had previously been employed by Mid-America Beverage for 22 years and had co-owned Hougland TVs.
He played softball for over 50 years, many of those years with the Men’s Fast Pitch League at Foster Park.  Rick loved his wife and tolerated his children.  He loved spending time with his family and going fishing with Betty. Over the years, Rick coached his son Eric’s basketball teams, collaborated with his daughter Amy while he played guitar and acted in his son Ian’s amateur films.  Rick was also a talented, self-taught painter and baker.
Along with his wife, Betty, Rick is survived by his children, Amy Marie Parraga, Eric Hougland and Ian (Kathryn) Hougland; grandkids, Sadie Parraga and Lyra Hougland; sister, Pam Hughes; brother-in-law, Mike Tweed and several nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Roberta and his sister, Terri Tweed.
Funeral services celebrating Rick’s life will be held at 6pm Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes, 414 West Jefferson Street, with Pastor Mike Grovak officiating.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-6 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be made in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Lawrence Robert Smith - July 19, 1946 - March 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Lawrence Robert Smith, 75, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022, at home. Larry was born July 19, 1946, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Charles Smith and Valliria Peretti Smith.
He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1964. Larry then attended Purdue University. While there, Larry started Anvil Productions while also playing bass guitar in local Kokomo area bands like Sneed Hern and Storm Crow. After completing his bachelor's degree at Indiana University, Larry was pursuing a master's degree at Ball State when he got a job offer from Performance Magazine in Texas. Larry worked there for twenty years.  He created a new magazine called Tour Guide which he managed for the next 10+ years. That business became Mobile Production Pro which focused on live music production. Larry received 34 platinum records from groups like The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues and ZZ Top.
Larry is survived by his sister, Carol Peretti, Park City, Utah; his son, Sean Smith, Los Angeles; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Lee Janney, Muncie, Indiana; and six grandchildren.  A special thank you to John and Jessie Stickler for their exceptional care and friendship.  Larry loved you.

Leonard "Lenny" Locke Jr. - July 26, 1954 - March 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: Leonard “Lenny” Locke Jr., 67, Kokomo, passed away at 11:37 am on Thursday March 10, 2022, at his home.  He was born July 26, 1954, to the late Leonard and May (Wolfe) Locke Jr.
Leonard was a 1972 graduate of Kokomo High School.  He worked for Mayflower Movers as a moving associate.  He loved volunteering for Northside Little League. He was an avid baseball card collector and Chicago Cubs Fan.
Leonard is survived by his nephews, Joe Davis, Jeff (Lisa) Davis, Jim (Kristin) Davis; nieces, Mary (Dennis) Parker and Brittany (Floyd) Davis; great niece, Amber O’Brien; great nephew, Jeff Davis Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Davis; and brother-in-law, John Davis.

Paul Steven Fisher - January 26, 1967 - February 22, 2022

Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and his best friend, Baxxter.  Considered the “Mayor of Mulberry Street”, he also enjoyed barbequing, fishing, playing video games and hanging out in the chat room with dear friends.
Along with his wife Lisa, Paul is survived by his stepchildren, Trevor Weaver and Shawnna Weaver; siblings, Carolyn Fisher, Fred (Elnoria) Fisher, Michelle (Derek) Flager and Stephen Fisher; grandchildren, Trevor Weaver Jr., Silas Andrew Weaver, Kira Pebley and Amira Pebley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Marvin Fisher, Stella Thomas, Joseph Fisher and Fredrick Fisher.

Obituary Preview: Sharon Marie Cottingham passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 4, 2022. She was born on May 5, 1988, in Yuba City, CA to Rebecca (Pritchard) Bennett and Bernard Lammey Jr. She married Steven “Allan” Cottingham on August 28, 2010.
Sharon and Allan had three children. Cody, 13, Connor, 9, and Mackenzie Cottingham who preceded her in death. Sharon was a stay-at-home mom and housewife. She came from a large family that loved her dearly. Her world revolved around her two boys and her family.
Sharon enjoyed spending time with her husband of 11 years and life partner of 17 years. Together they enjoyed playing online games, listening to music, watching their favorite shows, going to concerts, traveling, and spending time with their two boys and extended families. Sharon enjoyed watching movies and eating popcorn with her two boys, Cody and Connor. Sharon was a fierce Mama bear that would have done anything for her two sons and her God-daughter Joshlynn.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sharing recipes with family members, especially her beloved Mama T, whom she facetimed daily. Sharon also enjoyed planting flowers and drinking wine. She was often found spending time with her “favorite” sister-in-law Rachel drinking wine and having a good time.
She enjoyed spending time with her father Benard fishing, cooking, working on tractors, and talking. She truly was a Daddy’s girl thru and thru. Sharon enjoyed spending as much time with her mother as possible. She loved to talk and embarrass her mother all costs and wallering on her as much possible.
Sharon enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, gaming and spending time with her nieces, nephews, siblings, and most importantly her mother and father. Sharon had a big heart and cared deeply for those most important to her and family always came first to her. She will be deeply missed.

Sedailah Lucille Smith Richardson Stanley - August 25, 1916 - December 17, 2021

Obituary Preview: Sedailah Lucille (Oldfather) Smith Richardson Stanley, 105, Kokomo, passed away Friday December 17, 2021, at home. She was born in Miami, IN, on August 25, 1916, the daughter of the late John A. and Clara (Antrobus) Oldfather. On December 7, 1940, she married Russell A. Smith of Peru, he preceded her in death on November 28, 1944, when he was killed in Germany during World War II.
Sedailah was a 1934 graduate of Bunker Hill High School. She earned a degree from the Kokomo Indiana Business College. She worked as a secretary at C.I Togstag Co. and American Standard Pottery until she retired in 1970. She was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Clubetts Euchre Club, the Eagles Auxiliary, and the Kokomo Senior Citizen’s Choir. Sedailah was an incredibly gifted pianist who played and sang up until her health declined a few weeks ago. She was the director of the Joyful Sounds, a group who traveled and performed together. She enjoyed playing card games, dancing, and had quite the jewelry collection. She held a place in her heart for each one of her family members.
She is survived by her sons, Terry Smith, Dennis (Lora) Richardson; grandchildren, Tracy Meritt, Karen (Wayne) Kirwin, Scott Smith, Troy Smith, Angela (Blake) Martin, Aaron (Christine) Richardson, Brittney (Jake) Buck, Erik (Kylie) Richardson, Montrail Johnson, Taylor (Caleb) Querry, Claire Huff, Max Richardson; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-great-grandchildren; long-time caregiver and friend, Anita Kessler; numerous nieces, nephews; and special great-niece, Trisha Kuhns Durham.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Oldfather; husbands, Russell Smith, Edward Richardson, Robert “Bob” Stanely; siblings, Elsie Saylor, Charles Oldfather, Ida Herlock, Mabel Kuhns, John Riley; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Smith.

(Bryant) Bailey.  On August 14, 1945, she married William B. Gifford, in New London, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2008.
Bobbi attended Kokomo High School and later worked for Cuneo Press, Haynes Stellite and Delco Electronics before retiring in 1984.  She loved working in her yard, traveling and being with family.  She also loved attending Family Worship Center and was a faithful and devout Christian who loved the Lord.
Survivors include her children, William “Ben” (Sue) Gifford and Stephen Gifford; grandchildren, Samantha (Paul) Thomas, Tammy (James) Long, Rob (Heather) Gifford, Melissa (Brian) Merchand, Tonya (Darren) Williams and Cathy Fouch; 16 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; niece, Pam (Bill) Shepherd; and numerous “adopted” children.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Loren Gifford, and grandson, Brad Fouch.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Downs; children, Catherine (Michael) Shelden and Christopher Downs; grandchildren, Thomas (Morgan) Shelden, Victoria Shelden, Skylar Shelden, Stevie Downs, Crystal Downs, Kyle Downs, Logan Downs, and Dollie Downs; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Miles, Emma, and one expected in January; siblings, Carolyn Bogue, Rodney Skinner, DeVon (DeEtte) Skinner, and Donna Crosby.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alma Shepherd; and a special niece, Dovie Smith.

Obituary Preview: James David McCain, 85, of Kokomo, peacefully passed away at 3:44 am on Monday October 11, 2021, after battling dementia. He was born in Kokomo on April 22, 1936, to the late J. Reid and Hope (Kendall) McCain.
Jim is a graduate of Delphi High School.  He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956, where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Jim thoroughly enjoyed welding for the Howard County Highway Department and made many life-long friends over the nearly 40 years he worked with the “County Boys” as he liked to call them.  He enjoyed discussing Republican politics, hunting arrowheads, studying the Bible, raising cows, organic gardening, and  feeding his beloved deer and birds.
Jim is survived by his children, Rebecca (Tony) Vent, Micah (Jennifer) McCain; grandchildren, Katherine (Katie) Vent, Molly McCain and Emily McCain; siblings, JoAnne Gordon and Lynda Brooks.
He was preceded in death by two of his children, David McCain and Kathy McCain; siblings, Nancy Kremers, John Kendall McCain, Jane Geroux, Patricia Kanable, Marialyce Knoll, William McCain, Frederick McCain and Julia McCain.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday November 27 from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a funeral service at noon, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Carolyn was a 1966 graduate of Kokomo High School.  She worked for GM Fisher Body in Marion and was a member of the Kokomo VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed going to rummage sales and loved helping others.  Carolyn was a selfless person, devoted mother and, known as “GG” to her great-grandchildren.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Charles; children, Max (Kimberly) Bowley and Christy (Rodney) Lawson; grandchildren, Ashlee Sharp, Josh Bowley, Leslie Bowley, Nathan Bowley, Nicolas Bowley and Joy Bowley; great-grandchildren, Kaelynne Sharp and Kamdyn and Kaesyn Rayn; siblings, John (Dorena) Taylor, Diana (Bill) Morgan and Greg (Frieda) Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Taylor and Iris Harrell, and first husband, Max Bowley.

Kathie was a 1967 graduate of Winchester High School.  She enjoyed shopping, crafting, cooking, and travelling to California, Florida, and any  place that had a beach.  She was fun, loving, light-hearted, and enjoyed life.  Her true love was caring for her family, especially her grandchildren and her husband in his final days.
Kathie is survived by her children, Rob Bainter, Michelle McKee, Tennille Moloch, Beth (Bob) Minet; a brother, Rick Moore; and grandchildren, Sarah Abigail McKee, Taylor, Shelby, Ashley, and Mason Crum.
Along with her husband of 31 years, she was preceded in death by her mother; step-dad, Paul Conning; brother, Terry and sister-in-law, Sue.
Visitation will be held, Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, 414 W. Billy was a graduate of Pilgram Holiness College. He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Billy retired from Chrysler Corporation after 34 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and cooking.
In addition to his spouse Jim, Billy is survived by his daughters, Christal (Ryan) Hammond, and Chasta (fiancé Aaron Czalbowski) Stefanatos; step children, Christan (fiancé Lena Johnson) Lauck, Hillary (Engin) Celebi, and Mark Lauck; grandchildren, Madison, Braeden, and Dylan Bryant, Emma (Frank) Enriquez, Tessa Stefanatos, Quinn Hammond, and Remy Celebi; brothers, Paul (Sandy) Hale, David (Diana) Hale, Nathan (Vicki) Hale, and Danny (Diana) Hale; and sister, Faye (Bud) Payne.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Ray (Else) Hale.

Sherry enjoyed visiting CAM every day and eating her meals at the Kokomo Rescue Mission.  When her health began to fail, she became a resident at Howard Haven, where she enjoyed the good food, company, birthdays, and holidays.  With a couple of medical difficulties, Sherry moved to North Woods Village and then to Golden Living Center-Sycamore Village.  There, she enjoyed bingo and reading magazines.  She will be remembered as a kind person and a woman of few words.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Martinez- Berrones, 87, Kokomo, passed away 3:01 pm, Thursday, December 10, 2020, at St. Vincent of Kokomo Hospital.  He was born July 8, 1933, in San Lois Potosi, Mexico, to Rogaciano and Maria (Berrones) Martinez-Navarro.  He married Virginia Valencia on October 2, 1964.  She survives.
Jose worked as a math teacher for years back in Mexico.  Once in Indiana he worked as a foreman for the local steel mill and did road construction.  He was a member of Laborer’s Local Union 274.  Jose was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed going with the family to watch the Kokomo Jackrabbits baseball team.  He enjoyed watching western TV shows, especially the Lone Ranger.  He was a jack of all trades and liked to keep busy by working in the garden, fixing and building things, but above all he loved to spend time with his family and spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife of 54 years, Jose is survived by his daughters, Rosemary (Brent) Rutherford and Irma Martinez; brother, Dimas Martinez-Berrones; grandchildren, Jonathan and Joseph Bogue and Olivia and Amanda Rutherford; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Zoey Bogue-Groves; “the son he never had,” John Gregory Bogue; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Oscar Martinez; five sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be held from 11 am-1 pm, Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Obituary Preview: Walter Leroy Johnson, II, 63, Kokomo, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo.  He was born October 16, 1957, in Howard County, the son of the late Walter Leroy Johnson and Carmen Juanita (Wilkison) Drake.
Walter was a 1976 graduate of Haworth High School.  He also graduated in 1983 from Indiana Vocational Technical College in Computer Programming Technology and was a Master Carpenter.  In 1987 he was given a certificate for Counsel to the Indiana Attorney General Pearson.
Walter filled in one summer for a guitarist who was sick, touring with the Southern Rock Allstars rock band.  He took care of his mother in her final years.  As Alzheimer’s began taking a toll on Walter, through the care and concern of a friend, Charlie Skoog, Walter became a member of the Wildcat Guardians and Grace Fellowship Church.  When Charlie left town, Walter came under the care of CAM, Inc.  In Walter’s final years, he lived in Golden Living-Sycamore Care Memory Unit.  They loved him and took very good care of him.  Covid was his final chapter, and with music playing, he passed at Community Howard Regional Health.
Walter is survived by his sister, Belinda Johnson.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Ronald began working at a young age as he gained the knowledge and tools in construction.  He was self-employed most of his life and also worked in scrap metal collection.  He enjoyed working on cars and trucks and often would trade in a nice vehicle for a vehicle that needed so work simply for the challenge. He also loved spending time with his grandson and “best friend” CJ Randolph.
Ronald is survived by his children, Wayne Shutt, Ronnie Hickman, Jr., Troy Hickman, Louie Steel, Angie Shutt, Mandy Herrington, Brandy Gibson, and Falisha Shutt; brother Timothy Hickman; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ramona Hickman; sister, Linda Wooley, brother, James Hickman; and grandchildren, Ashley Caine and Romeo Randolph.

Along with her husband of nearly 20 years, she is survived by her son, Jason (Deb) Bailey; brothers, Paul (Evelyn) and David Bailey; sisters, Phyllis (Danny) Brubaker and Renee (Mark) Davis; grandson, Isaiah Bailey; step son, Scott Johnston, and step-grandchild, Raylynn Johnston.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Billie Sue Carpenter, Sandra Kay Gibbs, Joyce Bailey and Barbara Bailey.
