Obituary Preview: Terry A. Cartwright, 76, of LaOtto, passed away on September 25, 2022, at his home.
He was born in Garrett, on March 17, 1946, to the late Robert & Donna (Buchanan) Cartwright. He spent his formative years in LaOtto, and graduated from Avilla High School in 1964.
After high school, he served in the United States Army National Guard for six years.
Terry was married on August 26, 1967, to Marsha McManama.
Terry owned and operated the LaOtto Texaco Service Station for 30 years. He then went to work for XY Tool for 20 years. While working at the service station and XY tool he drove school bus for the East Noble School District for 27 years. He was also a Volunteer Fireman for 30 years.
He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, making things for his grandchildren, wood carving, and spending time with his family and friends.
Terry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marsha Cartwright; his children, Matthew (Kris Tena) Cartwright, Jennifer (Christopher) Mosley, and Adam (Sara) Cartwright; a brother, Richard (Barbara) Cartwright; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jacque Hand.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Christian Church, Kendallville, on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 4 p.m., with calling from 12 to 4 p.m.

Gailen Ray Hart - September 30, 1930 - September 17, 2022

Obituary Preview: Gailen Ray Hart, 91, of Churubusco, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.
He was born in Ray, Indiana, on September 30, 1930, to the late Ray and Addie (Reade) Hart. He spent his formative years in Kendallville.
After school, he served in the United States Army from November 14, 1947, to April 2, 1952.
Gailen was married in Wolcottville, on November 28, 1953, to Adabelle France. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2020.
After 30 years of service, he retired from Dana Weatherhead, in Columbia City, in 1995. Previously to that, he had worked at J.I. Case and Magnavox.
Gailen was a past member of the U.A.W. and served in many board capacities, including the American Legion Post and the Moose. He attended Good News Baptist Church.
He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and traveling the country camping with his wife.
Gailen is survived by a son, Gregory (Norma) Hart; three daughters, Denise (Mike) Ritchison, Addie (Patrick) Stoner, and Carol Thompson; 12 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by four brothers, Ralph, Cy, Douglas, and Jack; three sisters, Ilene, Dixie, and Connie.
Services will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., with calling one hour prior.
Burial with Military Rites will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Cystic Fibrosis or Cancer Services of N.E. Indiana.

She married Fred S. Demo in 1955, he preceded her in death in 1998.
Joan worked at Kmart in Fort Wayne and was a homemaker. She loved sewing, knitting and fishing at Big Lake.
Joan is survived by three daughters, Susan (Darren) Misener, Barbara (Scott) Wyatt and Jeanne (Bob) Fanger; one son, Steven (Lori) Demo; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Longardner and a sister, Betty Doehring.

He was born in Pineville, KY on July 14, 1947, to the late Ed Brock and Ida (Beverly) Smith.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he received the Distinguished Service Metal during his service in Vietnam.
Don married Billie Joe Smith on May 17, 1968, in Tazewell, TN. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing at Lake Okeechobee. Don was a big fan of Kentucky Wildcat basketball.
He worked in maintenance at Tokheim for 37 years, retiring in 2002.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Billie Joe; one daughter, Heather (Shane) Silver; and a very proud papaw of Emily Sue Silver; two sisters, Regina (Mark) Poenix and Mary Brock; many nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by five sisters, Jean Wiseman, Paula Donahue, Martha Jackson, Diana Brock, and Sharon Luker; one brother, Danny Brock.
Services will take place at 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022, at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, 16830 Lima Road Huntertown, IN 46748, with calling two hours prior to service.

He was born in Fort Wayne, on August 10, 1974, to the late Dennis and Linda (Hutton) Reiling. He spent his formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School.
Tim spent the last three years working for the Railroad as a Non-Destructive Testing Technician. He was passionate about his work and would love to talk to people about it. It was a very important job for the railroad to ensure rail safety.
He had lived in West Virginia for the last three years and loved the outdoors and the mountains. He had moved back to this area after he was diagnosed with cancer and it was so he could be closer to his brother and sister-in-law.
Tim is survived by his brother, Travis (Beverly) Reiling; a sister, Christina Bingham; his six nephews and nieces, Mikaella, Makenna, and Lee Reiling, Greggory (Whitney) Bingham, Fauline Altamirano and Charyce Bingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., with calling beginning at noon.
Burial will take place in the Ege Catholic Cemetery.

He was born in Columbia City, on October 9, 1961, to the late Charlotte (Trumbull) Creech and Roy Creech.
He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1980.
Mark was a very caring and generous person. He loved riding his bicycle, reading, and cooking. Mark is famous for his cheesecake and his beef and noodles made in a "crockpot".
Mark was a press operator at Wise Business Forms in Fort Wayne for 40 years.
He is survived by his two sisters, Carolyn (Steve) McKee and Judy Zent (Steve Doster); his brother, Robert (Rita) Creech; five nieces, Nikki, Jill, Jenna, Jaren, Melissa; and his work family at Wise Business Forms.

She was born in Orlinda, TN, on January 30, 1932, to the late Paul and Agnes (Anderson) Hurst. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne and Laotto.
Phyllis married James (Jim) Bianski in Ege on February 18, 1950.
Phyllis spent her life caring for her family as a homemaker for her husband and six children. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and her many years spent with her family in Florida. Phyllis also enjoyed watching football with her family.
Phyllis is survived by her six children, Steve (Marty) Bianski, Sandy (Jerry) Klausing, Kathy (Steve) Heckber, Connie (Ken) Dusek, Mike (Kari) Bianski and Erin (Craig) Ginter; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jim. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald of Evansville and stepfather, John Hice of Fort Wayne.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Ege on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with calling taking place at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. The mass will be live streamed through the church.
The family will also recieve family and friends at the funeral home, on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place in the Ege Catholic Cemetery.

Possum worked as an over-the-road trucker for many years. In his retirement, he enjoyed trading, selling, and customizing matchbox cars.
Possum enjoyed spending time with his family and having a good time.
He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Katrina Wilcox; his daughter, Jazelyn Hemphill; his stepson, Johnathan (Brittany Dilley) Wilcox; and a sister.

He was born in Fort Wayne on October 13, 1950, to Cecil and Lavon (Disler) Strong. He spent his formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School.
After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Michael was married in Churubusco on December 29, 1970, to Narda Welch. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2003.
He worked at Strong's Tool Grinding as a tool grinder for more than 40 years, retiring in 2017.
He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and drawing. He had an eye for fine detail.
Michael is survived by his son, Nick (Tara) Strong; his daughter, Kate (Derek) McDowell; his mother, Lavon Strong; his seven grandchildren, Auston Smith, Kameryn and Brayden Strong, Molly, Owen, Lucy, and Harlan McDowell; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Strong; his brother, James Strong.
Service will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service.

Obituary Preview: Thad "Joe" Zolman, 75, of Churubusco, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Parkview Hospital Randallia.
He was born on March 25, 1947, to the late Archie and Grace (Simon) Zolman. They made their home in Swan Township, Noble County. Joe was a good student. He started school in Ligonier and later attended Merriam and Wolf Lake schools.
In 1958, he contracted Measles and Encephalitis. This changed his life into a sleep mode forever.
He enjoyed gardening, artwork, and giving people gifts. After traveling to Tacoma, Washington he enjoyed going anywhere by train or car. He loved living in Fort Wayne and had a wonderful day before his stroke on June 24, 2022.
He is survived by his sister, Sondra (Frank) Montel Jr.; a nephew, Frank J Montel III; a niece, Tawny (Kevin) Hinrichsen; seven grandnieces and grandnephews, and five great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, with calling one hour prior to service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the Funeral Home, on Monday, August 8, 2022, from 4 to 8:00 p.m.
Burial taking place at Swan Cemetery.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 14 years, Lydia Temple; five children, Tony (Corrie) Vincent, Jayshree (John) Watkins, Daniel Vincent, Mya Vincent, and Bekham Vincent; eight siblings, Ernest (Cathy) Vincent, Cheryl (Phil) Kryder-Wassil, Michael Vincent, Jeff Vincent, Jane (Edward) Feipel, Suzanne (Larry) Knecht, Amy Vincent, and Grace (Nick) Lazoff; five grandchildren, Rosco, Finn, Kaden, Ruby, and Penelope.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Fyfe; a granddaughter, Millie Mae Watkins.
A memorial service will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.

She was born on March 1, 1949, in Decatur, to the late Carl & Claudine (Gallogly) Noll. She spent her formative years in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School. She later received her Registered Nursing License from St. Joseph School of Nursing.
Karen was married on May 26, 1968, to Brad Myers, at the St. Marks Methodist Church in Decatur. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2018.
Karen was a RN and served in different communities throughout her career. Karen had previously lived and served the communities of Fort Wayne, Portland, Churubusco, and Albion.
She was a member of the Churubusco United Methodist.
She loved spending time floating in the lake, laughing with her family, and telling stories even if they weren’t true. She enjoyed a good BBQ, candy corn, Bens pretzels, and sneaking chocolates. She also enjoyed sewing and her coloring books when she wasn’t spending time with her family.
Karen is survived by two sons, Brian (Les Russell) Myers and Timothy (Terri) Myers; a daughter, Dawn (Greg) Dykstra; two brothers, Tom (Shirley) Noll and Bob Noll; six grandchildren, Douglas (Jen)Bier, David Bier, Lucas Gurski, Alyssa Dykstra, Aowyn Myers and Ashlynn Myers; four great-grandchildren, Quinn, Sophia, Charlee, and Callum.
Funeral Services will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with calling beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Burial taking place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.

On June 12, 1954, she was married in Fort Wayne to Raymond Mettert, and spent the early years of her marriage there until moving to rural Roanoke in 1963. The couple later lived at Big Lake for several years until moving to Churubusco. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2008.
She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Churubusco. She was also active with the Red Hat Society. She especially enjoyed her family.
The surviving relatives include a son, Steven R. (Karla) Mettert; a daughter, Sandra (Bradley) Scare; two brothers, Don (Gwen) Lamley and John Lamley; two sisters, Betty Ramsey and Joyce Buffenbarger; four grandchildren, Christopher (Kim) Mettert, Alan (Elizabeth) Mettert, Brandy (Bill) Cain, and Hillary Scare; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Ramsey.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, on Saturday, August 6, 2022, with calling one hour prior at the Funeral Home.

He was born on September 29, 1940, in Whitley County. He was the son of the late Ford and Emeline (Beezley-Thorn) Bitting. Cliff grew up in Merriam and attended Wolf Lake High School, graduating in 1958.
He married Charla Sherman on October 27, 2006, in Albion.
Cliff enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 2, 1959. He served and was honorably discharged after seven years of service in 1966. He was a member of the Albion American Legion Post 246. As a veteran, Cliff participated in the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in May of this year and attended the reunion for the U. S. S. Cogswell in Orlando, Florida, in June of this year.
In 1977 Cliff moved from California with his family to the Bitting Family Farm, where he had enjoyed his childhood years and lived there until 2006.
Cliff retired from Noble REMC in 2002. After retirement, Cliff refused to sit still. He stayed busy farming, raising beef cattle, and gardening on the Bitting Family Farm.
Cliff loved hunting, fishing, working outside, and also enjoyed racing. He found value and pride in seeking out ways to help others. Being a grandpa and great-grandpa brought a lot of joy into Cliff’s life.
Surviving is his wife of 15 years, Charla; a daughter, Kelly (Matt) Elias of Albion; two sons, Brandon (Jane) Bitting of Albion and Michael (Angie) Geradot of Columbia City; two sisters, Mary Castle of Erie, Pennsylvania and Barbara Lockett of Wichita, Kansas; five grandsons, Tyler (Morgan) Siewek, Cameron and Ryker Elias, Weston Jackson and Colton Geradot; two granddaughters, Bayley Siewek (Dan Tieman) and Morgan Geradot; five great-grandchildren, Liliana and Colstyn Siewek, Hudson, Jonah, and Jade Tieman; and a nephew, Jeremy (Janet) Lockett.
In addition to his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his sister, Sally Bitting.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the funeral home, with calling one hour prior to service.
Burial will take place at Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery.

In addition to Tractor Pulling and farming, he enjoyed old cars. He especially loved his family. He will be remembered as a man with "A Heart of Gold."
Mark is survived by his wife of 24 years, Brenda King; his son, Jonathon Martin; a daughter, Kimberly (Alex) Stevenson; three brothers, Larry (Connie) King, Robert (Arlene) King, and Kevin (Angela) King; two grandchildren, Arianna and Adeline Jo.

Karen was married to John Von Gunten on July 24, 1971, in Fort Wayne.  Their 50-year journey together was anchored by attention to the importance of family and especially by her outgoing personality and sense of humor.  Karen's laugh will not be easily forgotten.
Karen was a lifelong caregiver at work and home.  She received her degree in Nursing from Purdue University Fort Wayne.  She worked for St. Joseph Hospital and the State Developmental Center in Fort Wayne as an RN before retiring after more than 25 years of dedicated and compassionate service.
In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She loved to watch them dance. An avid reader, Karen also enjoyed logic puzzles, as well as entertaining and cooking for friends and family.  She had an open-door policy, anyone who came in was treated as family and never left hungry.
Karen is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Von Gunten; her two sons, Eric Von Gunten and Matt (Sharon) Von Gunten; a godson, Matthew Jackson; four siblings, Jerry Malcolm, Jean (George) Aylesworth; Alan Malcolm, and Mike (Margaret) Malcolm; numerous nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ashley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Jeffrey Alan Malcolm; two brothers, John Lee Malcolm and Brian Malcolm; and a sister, Marcia Jackson.
