Jacquelyn Geneva LaVoy - July 10, 1961 - April 20, 2024

Departed: 04/20/2024 (New Britain)
Obituary Preview: Jacquelyn Geneva LaVoy was born in New Britain CT on July 10, 1961 to her parents Deacon James D. McCoy Sr. and the late Pastor Elizabeth R. McCoy. She departed this life peacefully on April 20, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was known to family and friends by her different nicknames, such as Jack, Jackie, Pimmy and Jike. She attended New Britain and Plainville School systems, Graduating in 1981. After graduating she enrolled and completed her education in cosomtology in New Britain CT receiving her license for hairdressing. She begin her carreer in this field and worked as an instructor at New England School of Hairdressing in New Britain CT. There her students called her Miss Jackie, she then moved on to work at a hair salon in Plainville Ct renting her own space and chair for her clients. At that time Jerry curls were in style and some of her most regular customers were Sister Helen Lebby, Evangelist Wynell Allen and sister Roberta Kyles. They loved those jerry curls. She also was an entrepreneur who started her own cleaning business through Coverall but she named the company Immaculate cleaning service. The family would pitch in to help get the job done.
She was giifted as a child to play piano by ear, she was inspired by her late grandfather John L Robertson Sr. where she learned to play the blues. The family was in awe when she played the Sting like she composed it. Her gift came directly from God. She did take a few lessons afterward to learn more scales and music theory. Jack could scat like Ella fitzgerald and sing like Natalie Cole. Ella's song A tisket a tasket I lost my yellow basket was one of her favorite songs, she was the president of the family singers and she made us hold our part and stay on key. She herself could sing soprano, alto, tenor and bass if she needed to.
.
Well all that jazz and singing the blues changed after she gave her life to the Lord in the late 80's when she was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the holyghost at Betheda Apostolic Church here in New Britain CT, under the leadership of Suffragan Bishop John H. Thomas, and she began to sing a new song. The Gospel sound.. then she could sing like the Clark Sisters, especially Twinkie and Karen Clark as well as Yolanda Adams. Her inspiration for gospel music came from her father Deacon James D, Mccoy, Sister Kay Davis and family friends Timothy Johnson and the late Larry Miles, she held several positions such as one the lead singers on Bethesda  Choir, in Missionary Department, Sunday school Department, Childrens Choir director and musician She later took all she learned at Bethesda to Bethel Apostolic Church in Middlletown CT. under the leadership of the late District Elder Marion Fennell, the late Pastor Elizabeth R . McCoy and current Pastor Charlene M. Aiken. She was a sunday school teacher, the minster of music, and a praise leader. She did backslide for a seaon in her life but God said I am married to the backslider and he resored her soul as promised through his grace and mercy in 2019 after the death of her mother who always believed that Jackie was choosen by God to be used in his kingdom and would return and serve the Lord and shes been faithful to God ever since, pressing her way, singing praises while sitting in the wheel chair to weak to stand but that voice still gave God the glory. She was so musically inclinded, we would say shes a natural born singer, flat footed singer, song writer, musician, producer and recording artist of her own music which she had copy written.
She was married to Felipe Lavoy aka Fellow for 25 years and to that union came her baby boy Demetrious Enhenio LaVoy aka Henio. Her first born John U McCoy Sr. gave her 2 grandchildren in whom she adored, always singing songs to both Papoose and Delilah, she was also given a 1 1/2 year old granddaughter which is Heno's daughter, she enjoyed the time spent with her family. She loved to travel and would take yearly vacations to disney world with the family, trips to Pueto Rico, Myrtle beach, Cancun, PAW and Highway church conventions. She loved eating out, going to family cookouts and holiday dinners, shed be the first to say fix me a plate to go, "Henio fix the plates" "Bollie you got those to go containers?" make sure i get a turkey wing. she was a joy to be around, Sickness rapidly took over her body as she dealt with Lupus, kidney failure, heart failure just to name a few, she believed that God was going to heal her body and on April 20-24 he absolutely did just that, no more pain, no more suffering and no more dialisys. she is free and resting in Jesus. She leaves to cherish her memory, her two
sons, John Ulysses McCoy Jr. and Demetrius Enhenio LaVoy, Her Father Deacon James McCoy Sr. two brothers James D.McCoy Jr. and Jonathan (Natalie) McCoy Sr. one sister, Pastor Charlene M. Aiken, 3 grandchildren, Papoose John U. McCoy Jr. Delilah McCoy and Lelani LaVoy. 6 nephews 6 nieces which includes Goddaughter Jasmine C. Brandi K. Ortiz - December 13, 1980 - April 13, 2024

Departed: 04/13/2024 (New Britain)
Obituary Preview: With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Brandi Katherina Ortiz, who left us, suddenly, on April 13, 2024, in New Britain, Connecticut, where she lived most of her life. She was 43 years old at the time of her departure.
Brandi was a cherished member of our family, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories. She graduated from New Britain High School in 1998 and was Color Guard Captain her senior year. After high school, Brandi worked as a waitress for many years until she suffered the loss of her unborn son and a resultant brain injury. She found solace in books, Manga, anime, and graphic novels. Summer was her favorite time of year. She loved the “summer’s simple pleasures.” The sweet taste of garden cherry tomatoes and her pool, which was her sanctuary. She loved to swim and float, splash and play in the pool almost every day, for hours, until her toes were wrinkled.
Several years ago, Brandi discovered a passion for learning to create nail art and made countless sets while sharing her knowledge via YouTube tutorials. Her personality shines in her videos. The stories she told of “The Trials and Tribulations of a Nail Artist” and her everyday life, stories of growing up and how she was dealing with her brain injury. Her big belly laughs ring out constantly in every video she made. Her YouTube channel is @BRCNails, which she started with our dad, whom we call Poppa, as a hobby and creative outlet.
Brandi was predeceased by her beloved unborn son, Anthony Alexander Hill on August 28th, 2006. She is survived by her loving parents, Lori and Ronald Turner, her cherished siblings, Elizabeth and Nina Kubelnick, 2 other sisters from her biological father’s second marriage, her cousins Jackson, Sean, Susan, and John McCarthy, Bryan Earl, Jonah Earl, other extended family from across the country, and friends from around the world.
Brandi’s legacy lives on through us—the lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the love she freely gave. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate her spirit. May her memory be a source of inspiration, reminding us to live fully, love deeply, and embrace the beauty of every moment.

Gloria Talarico - August 04, 1940 - January 22, 2024

Departed: 01/22/2024 (New Britain)
Obituary Preview: Gloria Jean (Lestini) Talarico, 83, devoted wife of Philip L. Talarico, passed away in the early morning on Monday, January 22, 2024, in New Britain, CT after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born on August 4, 1940 in New Britain, CT, the eldest child of Gregory and Lena (Daversa) Lestini, and was raised in New Britain with her two younger sisters, Vicki and Rose, as part of a large and loving extended family. A lifelong resident, Gloria graduated from New Britain High School in 1958 with a passion for playing music and plans to become a teacher. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State University in 1962, before later returning to earn her Master's degree as well. She married her husband and partner of 62 years, Phil, on September 2, 1961 and together they shared their lives in love and raised their three sons: Jimmy, Gary, and Philip.
Gloria began her career as a dedicated elementary school teacher in New Britain public schools where she worked for many years before eventually taking a position at St. Mary School in Newington, CT. There she taught, cared for, and nurtured her many students for the rest of her career, until her retirement in 2006. Throughout her life, she was also a faithful parishioner of St. Ann Church in New Britain, where she volunteered, sang in the choir, and served as both a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Gloria was a deeply religious woman who truly strove to apply her Christian values to all she did.
A beloved daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, Gloria exemplified what it means to be a family matriarch. She valued making memories and sharing meaningful experiences with those she loved. She enjoyed traveling both in the United States and abroad, seeing shows, and attending sports games. As both a gifted baker and cook, Gloria never missed an opportunity to bring her family and friends together around a delicious Italian meal to mark a holiday, birthday, or simply Sunday supper. Her caring spirit, kindness, generosity, and loving nature was unmatched and she will be deeply missed by all that were fortunate to know her.
Gloria is survived by her husband Philip Talarico, her sons, James; Gary (and his step-daughter Ashley Merrill); and Philip (Rebecca) Talarico, her sisters, Victoria (Paul) Wetowitz and Rosemarie Lestini, her niece Renae Wetowitz, her nephew Ryan (Cristina) Wetowitz and their children, Drew and Carson, many cousins, extended family, and friends who will keep her memory alive, and her granddaughter, Alicia Talarico (and her partner Pete Howard), with whom she shared a special and unbreakable bond. In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Rodriguez Talarico, and many aunts and uncles.
