Cathy Jo Rogers - December 29, 1954 - May 13, 2024

Departed: 05/13/2024 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: Cathy Jo Thacker Rogers, 69, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 13th, 2024. She was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on December 29, 1954, to Vincent and Otha Dell Thacker. (Although born in Arkansas, she was Texan through-and-through!) She attended Ballinger High School and proudly received her GED in 1982. Cathy married Roger Lynn Rogers June 3, 1972, in San Angelo, Texas, where they made their life together for almost 52 years.Cathy worked for Wallace Labs where she became a master at her craft of negative retouching (think master photo-shopper before there were computers). After welcoming her one and only child, Carey LaDell Rogers, she started her own business where she worked from home as a negative retoucher. She made people, meat for grocery store advertising, and even stud horses look as beautiful as possible! As computers began to do the job she had done for 20+ years, she moved on to a short stint at Levi Strauss before rounding out her career as a financial secretary at a local trailer company for 23 years. Family was the most important thing in Cathy’s life. The bonds shared with siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews were everything to her. While Carey was her pride and joy, Cathy was ecstatic to add a son to her life when Carey married Bill Peacock in 1997. However, nothing made her prouder or beam brighter with joy than when she earned the new title of Granny. Caleb (20), Connor (17), and Carter (14) have brought her more joy in the last two decades than she ever thought possible. She watched them play t-ball, baseball, swim for the Central High School varsity team, play in the Lone Star and Mighty Bobcat Bands, and entertain crowds with dancing, acting, and singing.Cathy was one of the kindest and gentlest souls, and she loved fiercely with her entire heart. Anyone who had the opportunity to know her was truly blessed. Her absence will be impossible to ignore, and she will be missed every single day by so many who loved her.Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Vincent and Dell, her in-laws William “Woody” and Francis Rogers, and her sisters Helen Thompson and Janie Clift. She is absolutely overjoyed to be with them once again! Cathy will be greatly missed by her husband Roger, her daughter Carey and son-in-law Bill, her absolute joys Caleb, Connor, and Carter, her brother Vince Thacker and wife Donna, her sister Sheila Fitzgerald, many family members, and life-long friends. Her cats, Gracie Gray and Jax, and dog, Twister, will miss her cuddles as well. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home, located at 1939 Sherwood Way, San Angelo, TX, 76901. Celebration of life will be held Friday, May 24th, at 10:00 a.m. at Southland Baptist Church, located at 4300 Meadow Creek Trail, San Angelo, TX, 76904. A family burial will follow at Harriett Cemetery.

Laura Jean Isom - July 06, 1930 - April 22, 2024

Departed: 04/22/2024 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: Laura Jean Snell Isom, 93, joined the choir of angels on April 22, 2024. Death has no hold on her for she is triumphantly rejoicing in the arms of her Lord and Savior. She has been reunited with her husband, Buck (George Wade Isom) and son, Michael Dee along with her parents, Nell (Ridley) and Tom Snell, brother, Tommy, and sister, Ola Nell Jennings.Jean was born on July 6, 1930, in Ennis, Texas where she graduated from Ennis High School and was a member of the Southern Baptist Church. Jean and Buck were married on October 2, 1948, and celebrated 61 years together until Buck’s passing in 2009. They were blessed with three sons, Larry, Garry (Geg) and Mike. She spent her life in Ennis, Dallas, Bardwell, Big Lake, Rockwood and San Angelo, Texas. She was a simple woman who enjoyed the blessings given to her by God. Her younger years were full and very busy being a wife, mom, bookkeeper, and office manager for Isom Implement, the three John Deere dealerships that Buck and Jean owned. She loved to cook! You could count on her house to always have the smell of great food filling the air. She always had room for one more at her table and she wouldn’t let you leave hungry. She would stay up all night to finish a book then get up early the next day for work. She had several great friends in her lifetime, but one was particularly special, Mary Nell Witt. They shared in many memorable adventures (escapades) together. She loved to travel. Bags were always packed and ready to go on any of Buck’s hunting trips or other adventures. She enjoyed her time playing golf with him in Ennis, but she really enjoyed playing golf in Big Lake. That is where Mam and Pap gave all the grandkids mandatory golf lessons. She also enjoyed getting to see the new baby calves and riding in the pastures with Buck as he checked the cows. After Buck passed, her attention was given to Bandit and Dude, her faithful four-legged companions, who never left her side. They shared many snacks and many, many sandwiches together. There were never enough phone calls, visits, or family gatherings for Mom, Mamaw loved her family and friends. The grandchildren and the greats were her biggest pleasures in her later years. She was fond of the poem below and had it in her bible: “To laugh often, and love much, To win respect of intelligent persons And the affection of children; To earn the approbation of honest Critics and to endure the betrayal Of false friends; to appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; to give of One’s self; to leave the world a bit better, Whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, Or a redeemed social condition; to have played And laughed with enthusiasm and sung with Exultation; to know that even one life has Breathed easier because you have lived———- This is to have SUCCEEDED.” Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
Laura Jean Snell Isom, 93, joined the choir of angels on April 22, 2024. Death has no hold on her for she is triumphantly rejoicing in the arms of her Lord and Savior. She has been reunited with her husband, Buck (George Wade Isom) and son, Michael Dee along with her parents, Nell (Ridley) and Tom Snell, brother, Tommy, and sister, Ola Nell Jennings.
Jean was born on July 6, 1930, in Ennis, Texas where she graduated from Ennis High School and was a member of the Southern Baptist Church.
Departed: 04/09/2024 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: Chalmers Aaron (“Pete”) Shoemaker III passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on April 9th, 2024 at his rural home outside Mertzon, Texas. His children, Deanna and James, were by his side in his last days, alongside very special caregivers Caitlyn Allen, Maggie Fernandez, and Linda Shoemaker. Pete is predeceased by his parents, Chalmers Aaron Shoemaker II and Dorothy Maxine Burnett. He is survived by his sister Madelyn S. Dean and husband William of Fort Worth, TX; his daughter Deanna Beth Shoemaker and husband Morris Jurgensen of Neptune, NJ; his son James Aaron Shoemaker and wife Tana, of Coleman, TX; grandsons Jake Shoemaker and fiancé Shelby Graham of Alpine, TX; Zane Shoemaker and wife Bailey of San Angelo, TX; Aaron Blue Hunt of Neptune, NJ; granddaughter Payton April Shoemaker, great grandson Miller James Shoemaker, and the mother of Pete’s children, Linda Deanne Shoemaker of San Angelo, TX.Pete was born in Austin, Texas on November 2, 1941; the name “Pete” was given to this black haired, blue-eyed infant, and the nickname stuck for life. His family moved to El Paso in 1949, and Pete spent many happy summers hiking and hunting as a boy at Mitre Peak near Alpine, where his mother was a longtime girl scout counselor and director. The family eventually moved to San Angelo due to Pete’s father’s long career with the Texas Employment Commission. (Pete’s mother spent over 30 years as an elementary school teacher in El Paso and San Angelo.) Pete graduated from Central High School in 1960, where he was Vice-President of the Vocational and Industrial club. He also attended courses at what is now Angelo State University. Pete loved automotive work and became a talented and highly sought after auto mechanic in San Angelo, working for J.P. Cox and later, Eugene Kirksey. He was also one of the first and fastest needle makers at Ethicon, but his first love was being on a creeper under a car. He married Linda Gaston in 1963 (divorced 1972), and they had two children, Deanna and James. Pete eventually remarried and moved to Mertzon, Texas and opened his own garage. Customers drove 30 miles from San Angelo for Pete to work on their cars and trucks. Pete’s place near Mertzon was on Spring Creek, where his kids and grandkids loved to fish, swim, and wade in the crossing. In Pete’s garage sits a beautiful 1940 antique red Ford pickup that he rebuilt to perfection, which is a lasting example of his many talents. Pete also enjoyed hunting, taking care of his land, raising and caring for a variety of animals, growing a huge garden, collecting arrowheads, and studying Texas history. In his later years, he became deeply religious and was very devoted to Biblical studies. There will be a small private family burial service at Belvedere Cemetery in San Angelo, TX. Donations can be made to the Visiting Angels Foundation (https://visitingangelsfoundation.org/donate/) or Concho Hearts Hospice Care (https://www.conchoheartshospice.com/donate), who were incredible caregivers in Pete’s last few weeks of life.
Chalmers Aaron (“Pete”) Shoemaker III passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on April 9th, 2024 at his rural home outside Mertzon, Texas. Dean and husband William of Fort Worth, TX; his daughter Deanna Beth Shoemaker and husband Morris Jurgensen of Neptune, NJ; his son James Aaron Shoemaker and wife Tana, of Coleman, TX; grandsons Jake Shoemaker and fiancé Shelby Graham of Alpine, TX; Zane Shoemaker and wife Bailey of San Angelo, TX; Aaron Blue Hunt of Neptune, NJ; granddaughter Payton April Shoemaker, great grandson Miller James Shoemaker, and the mother of Pete’s children, Linda Deanne Shoemaker of San Angelo, TX.
Pete was born in Austin, Texas on November 2, 1941; the name “Pete” was given to this black haired, blue-eyed infant, and the nickname stuck for life. Departed: 03/31/2024 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: Katherine Janell Wadley age 70, passed away at home in San Angelo on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.A Celebration of Life for family only will be held on April 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at The Pecan Creek Pavilion. She was born to Dick and Shirley Wadley on December 21, 1953 in Pecos, Texas. Growing up Kathy was always the first one to jump in the truck with Daddy and head to the Ranch. She was never more at home than she was there.Kathy was a natural born athlete. Her love of sports started at an early age. She became an All-State athlete at Pecos High School. Kathy attended Angelo State University and upon graduating took her first job into the arena of coaching and teaching life lessons to young people. Thus began her dedication to the student athletes that would come to play for her at Lakeview High School and later at ASU.After leaving ASU, she turned her talents to the young people at JJC by teaching them the lessons that would help them navigate life as a teenager. Teaching them as she did her student athletes, to love themselves and that giving 100% at whatever they would do in life would build the character they would need to succeed. Her students filled her life with purpose. She was tough, but fair and always had an open door with a kind heart for listening. Kathy had a knack for getting the most out of her athletes and students by teaching them to believe in themselves. She was fun and funny with those quick witty comebacks. A character that everyone loved being around. After retiring, she and Debbie settled outside of San Angelo on some acreage Kathy would come to call the “Ranch, her little slice of Heaven on earth”.Kathy is survived by her loving wife of 29 years, Debbie Dove; sisters Susan Morgan and husband, Bob and Sharon McCracken and husband, Ronnie; and several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. She will be missed by so many, but she is finally Home in our Heavenly Fathers “High Country”.
