Keith Michael Rave - February 02, 1959 - October 03, 2016

Departed: 10/03/2016 (Rapid City)
Obituary Preview: Keith M. Rave passed away Oct. 3, 2016 with his best friend, Maggie holding his hand at the Hospice House of the Black Hills.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 7, 2016, at Fountain Springs Church.
Keith was born Feb. 2, 1959 in Sioux Falls, SD to Beverly J. and Earl J. Rave. He was the second oldest of five kids. The family moved to Rapid City when he was a baby to try their luck in the beautiful Black Hills. His parents owned the Rimrock Shopping Center, where all the boys worked. Earl and Bev instilled a hard work ethic into their children. Keith spent most of his youth discovering the hills around Johnson Siding hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, and giving his parents gray hair. Keith attended Big Bend Country School. After graduating from Stevens High School in 1977, Keith joined the family trade and built homes with his father, Earl, and his brothers.
Sixteen years ago, Keith began his favorite journey of all. Logan Earl Rave was born making Keith a father. Four years later, Lexus Elizabeth Rave came into this world and completed Keith's dream of having a family. Keith loved his children in a monumental way. He was a very attentive dad. He played with them, nurtured them and instilled all of his best qualities. Their family liked to go camping with friends, watch sprint car races, boating at Pactola, mountain biking on M Hill, and skiing at Terry Peak.
Keith was a master craftsman. His finish carpentry skills were second to none. His curved stair cases are pieces of art. Recently, he received a patent for one of his furniture designs. He also tried his hand at building outhouses - he called it the Backyard Biffy. Being creative was Keith's gift.
A few more things about Keith: He would go out of his way to help a friend. He once said, "someone needs to be the one that talks, and someone needs to be the one to listen." Keith was a listener, and an attentive one. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to make his friends and family laugh. Keith loved to party with his friends and have a good time. He would work a room like he was running for office.
Keith had a bucket list labeled, "Before I Turn 60". I encourage his family members and friends to complete as many items on this list in his memory: Stomp out cancer, get a concealed weapons permit, attend the Rochford Church, settle into a home, bike or hike the Centennial Trail, go to an Alan Jackson Concert, buy a car at Barrett Jackson, volunteer with the Special Olympics, farm with Uncle Eddie, golf with Uncle Clarence, take golf lessons, Hot Rod Yeller, see Joel Osteen, and party with Willie Nelson.
His Father, Earl J Rave preceded him in death. The family finds great comfort in them being together again. Keith's surviving family include: his children, Logan and Lexi Rave; his girlfriend/best friend, Maggie Messerli, and her kids Claire, Emma and Liam Porter; his mother, Beverly J Rave; brothers, Steve & Linda Rave, Darrell & Kim Rave, Kelly & Gail Rave, and his sister Nanette and her husband Sheldon Oukrop. Nieces and Nephews: Nick, Taryn, Devon, Miranda, Taylor, Zach, Eric, Miles, and Kelcey. Great nephew Landon and nieces Jensyn and Auburn. Keith loved his Mergen and Rave aunts, uncles and cousins. Keith leaves too many friends to count. He loved them so much most could be considered family members too. He too was loved by many, especially of course his family and will be deeply missed by all.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to Keith's Gofundme campaign, the Black Hills Home Builder's benefit, and the benefit created by his siblings.
A memorial has been established.

Henry "Hank" Conrad Jondahl - May 03, 1940 - August 05, 2016

Departed: 08/05/2016 (Rapid City)
Obituary Preview: Funeral services for Henry Conrad Jondahl, 76, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Falnes Lutheran Church in Langford, SD. Diane Hoines will officiate. Burial will follow at Falnes Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton, South Dakotafrom 5-7 pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m.
Henry passed away on August 5, 2016, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, after twelve years of battling multiple myeloma.
Henry Conrad ("Hank") Jondahl was born on May 3, 1940, in Langford to Henry and Alice (Holland) Flagtvedt. After losing her husband, Alice married Olger Jondahl, who adopted Henry and raised him as his son. Henry attended school in Langford and graduated from Langford High School. He joined the United States Air Force as a base Policeman and was stationed in Detroit and at Zweibrucken AFB, Germany.
Following his military service, Henry married Ilene Fischer and together they had two children. Henry later married Nancy Haan. Henry worked for the telephone company for 29 years and spent the next few years as an independent contractor providing corporate training to telephone company workers.
Henry enjoyed hard work, and was always ready to help his family and friends with whatever they needed. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing spending many a weekend at local lakes and on the Missouri River. He loved to "putz" around outdoors with his tractors, four wheelers, jetski's, and all kinds of other outdoor equipment. He also had a great appreciation for the "art of the deal" and was always looking for a bargain, buying or selling some doo-dad or whatchamacallit. Mostly though, Henry cherished his beloved grandchildren and reveled in his role as "Grampa Hank". He could most times be found with them building things, playing games, watching movies, and occasionally napping. And Grampa was always up for a game of hide-and-seek. He was certainly guilty of spoiling them with little things that he knew they would enjoy, but his greatest gift to them was the time, attention, and energy that he lavished on them. They all were well loved by Grampa Hank.
Celebrating Henry's life are his wife Nancy; children, Chan (Shelli) Jondahl of Tucson, Arizona and Traci (David) Tobias of Lakeville, Minnesota; his five grandchildren, David ("Alex"), Logan, Ayva, Anna, and Maggie; Nancy's sons, Rob Haan, Mat (Jade) Haan and Dan Haan; his brothers, Richard (Miriam) Jondahl of Waite Park, Minnesota, Rodney (Leone) Jondahl of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Don Jondahl of Aberdeen, South Dakota; and sister-in-laws, Marilyn Jondahl of Groton, South Dakota, and Lois (Jondahl) Dow of Arlington, Texas.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers Jim Jondahl and Loren Jondahl.

Donna M Houghtaling - May 08, 1943 - July 02, 2016

Departed: 07/02/2016 (Rapid City)
Obituary Preview: Donna M. (Maher) Houghtaling, Ideal, 73, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016, in the care of her daughter, Jill and family. Donna was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in late February. Jill took her in their home on June 4, 2016, to be cared for. Hospice aided Donna until the time of her passing.
Donna was born to Earl and Kate (Zindler) Maher of Rapelje, Montana on May 8, 1943 in Big Timber, Montana. At a younger age, Kate discovered that Donna did not respond to the noise of pots and pans that fell while she was watching the television. So, she tip toed behind her back and clanged them again with no response. They took her to the doctor and discovered that she was deaf with no nerves in her ears. They believed the reason for the deafness was that her mother had the German Measles while she was pregnant. When she became school age, her folks had to take her to the Deaf and Blind School in Great Falls, Montana. While Donna attended school, her parents farmed at Reed Point, Montana. This was her home away from home until she graduated in 1962. They communicated with their daughter by writing and made up their own sign language. Donna had a passion for horses. She had no fear of being alone with horses or riding them, even though there were lots of snakes where they lived. They had a dog that would lead her around to avoid them. After Donna graduated, she came home and lived with her folks, who now lived in Gallatin Gateway, Montana. While living there, she met Paul Houghtaling, who also lived in that area. She married Paul in 1965, and they lived on Little Bear Road in Gallatin Gateway. Donna worked for Glacier Mountain Cheese, in Gallatin Gateway for a while. Donna loved showing her horse and was involved in showing from 1970 to 1975. She received many ribbons and trophies. Ten years later they were blessed with a daughter. She began to teach her daughter, Jill, sign language at 18 months of age. In 1983, Donna and Paul got divorced, when Jill was seven years old. A year later, Donna and Jill moved to Bozeman, Montana with Donna's parents. April through June of 1986, they lived in Silesia, Montana as a caretaker. They then moved back to Bozeman until Jill graduated from high school in 1995. Donna became involved in the Gallatin County Fair as well as the Montana Winter Fair from 1983 through 1994, where she did a lot of volunteering and entering in open class. She has received many ribbons on baked items as well as arts and crafts.
From 1995 to 1998, Donna lived in Laurel, Montana. During those years, she entered projects at the Yellowstone County Fair in Billings, Montana. She worked at Ricci's Thriftway in Laurel. In 1998 to 2013, she lived in Belgrade, Montana. Donna continued to enter projects at the Gallatin County Fair and the Montana Fair from 1998 to 2006. She had several jobs: 2000-2002 she worked at Trinity Lutheran Daycare, in 2002 for five months she worked as a personal care giver and from 2002 to 2006 she worked at McDonald's. About three years ago, she came down just to visit Jill and family for a couple of months and ended up moving to Winner, South Dakota in October of 2013.
Donna was involved in many clubs: Wilson Bear Ladies Aide, Gallatin Saddle Club, and Gallatin Association of the Deaf (GAD). She was a member for the Montana Association of the Deaf for 17 years.
Donna enjoyed horseback riding, dancing, spending time with her deaf friends & family, signing songs in church, having a potluck gathering, playing games, fishing, gardening, canning, baking, arts & crafts, and genealogy. The most famous craft she was known for was her beautiful macramé items.
Donna will be missed very much, especially her smile and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Katherine Maher; sister, Linda (Maher) Kraft; nephew, Miles Chandler; brother-in-law, Richard Chandler; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
