Gracie Ross - June 08, 1942 - April 14, 2022

Departed: 04/14/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: Gracie Mae Ross was born in Hattieville, Arkansas on June 8, 1942 to the parents of Leonard and Estella Ross, who both preceded her in death.  Gracie departed this life in a peaceful transition on April 14, 2022 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri.
She was raised on a farm in Cleveland, Arkansas and was a member of New Mount Zion Church where she taught Sunday School.  After receiving her high school diploma from Conway County Training School in Menifee, Arkansas in 1965, she moved to California for a short time, but quickly decided it wasn’t for her.  She would eventually move to Kansas City, Missouri where she resided for over 50 years until her death.
In 1982, while in Kansas City, Gracie joined Mt. Ararat Missionary Church on 4101 Agnes, where she was baptized and sung in the choir.  Gracie dedicated her life to Christ, family and work.  She was never afraid of hard work, and even though she never learned how to drive, Gracie always managed to get to work and on time.  She would work several jobs, but retired in 2010 from National Envelope Corporation – Midwest, in Lenexa, Kansas after 30 years of service as a machine operator.
Family was always important to her. She may have never said it in words, but she would let you know through her actions because it was hard for her to say no.  No matter what you were in need of, if you asked, Gracie would try to help be it money, food or a place to stay she would assist.  During holidays, Gracie would cook oversized dishes and make several sweet potato pies.  If you came over, you were always welcomed to a plate and a whole pie – family loved her sweet potato pies.
Even though Kansas City was her second home, she never forgot about her first home, Cleveland, Arkansas.  Gracie was a great storyteller. She had an impromptu sense of humor; she would make you laugh and you’ll never forget it.  She loved to talk about life growing up on a farm with her 9 siblings. She would always say, “I’ve been working since I was 5-years-old.”  She would tell how she would rise before the crack of dawn to feed the chickens and slop the hogs.
Her faith in Christ was unwavering, she loved telling bible stories and listening to the word of God.   She would often quote a scripture and ask, “Do you know what that means?”  If you didn’t, she would be happy to let you know.
In her retirement years, Gracie loved to walk in the park and meet new people.  She enjoyed finally having time to herself without worrying about the alarm clock ringing at 4 a.m.  Her favorite past time was to watch all of her favorite TV shows and read her bible. She loved long car rides while taking in the scenery. This made her happy.
Gracie leaves to mourn, celebrate, and cherish her life; Her children Gary Ross Sr. (Andrea Ross) (Shannon Ewing, Shanee Ross, Gary Ross Jr.) Raytown, MO., Karen Ross Mahan (Brian Mahan Jr., Briana Mahan) Kansas City, MO., Scharon Ross Walton (Dion Walton, Cody Walton) Cleveland, OH., Christopher Ross Sr. (Christopher Ross Jr.) Kansas City,MO. Sisters and Brothers: Eugene Ross,Los Angeles, CA. Ulysess Ross, Kansas City, MO., Everlene Rouse, Conway, AK., Essie Ross, Clara Ross (Kansas City, MO).  Deceased, Flossie Ross, Lonnie Ross,  John Ross,  Homer Ross and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and guests.

Edgar Rollins Sr. - April 05, 1946 - April 10, 2022

Departed: 04/10/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: April 5th, 1946, in Nashville, Arkansas, Amanda and Otis Rollins welcomed a set of gifted twin boys into the world. The second arriving twin was named Edgar Rollins; that child would later become our Dad. His parents, Stepfather, Luther Riddle, twin brother Edward, sister Ernestine Rollins-Craven, 3 brothers, Roy, Sonny and Herbert Rollins, and a beautiful granddaughter, Valerie M. Rollins, preceded him in death.
In 1952, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Wendell Phillips Elementary, Central Junior High and graduated from Central Senior High School in 1965. He was voted "Jolly Good" by his peers.
As a child, Dad attended Paradise Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor L.B. Jones. While attending Paradise, he accepted Christ. He attended Sunday School and sang in the choir.
Shortly after high school, he began dating his beautiful classmate, Brenda Stuckey. They married on April 3, 1966. That same year, our parents welcomed their first child, LaTonya Renee. The young family joined Greater Corinthian "GC" Baptist Church (which later became Non-Denominational) in 1967 under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Davis, Jr. Dad was called to the Ministry in 1968. He became an ordained Minister in 1972, which gave him the title, “Reverend”. Rev. Rollins and his wife would have 3 additional children, Yolonda Helen, Kenyetta Cherice, and Ed Jr. In 1996 our bonus sister, Sherrie Elaine was adopted into our family along with her 3 beautiful daughters.
He was employed as a Meter Reader for MGE for many years. He retired from MGE and later worked as a Building Custodian with the Kansas City School District to which he retired a second time.
Rev. Rollins was an anointed Man of God with the gift of Prophecy. GC members would oftentimes find the service respectfully interrupted due to God speaking to and through him. Rev. Rollins grew stronger and stronger in the Word of God. He studied faithfully. He was a Sunday School teacher, choir director, singer, and mentor to many. He remained a member of Greater Corinthian, under the leadership of Pastor Eric Jerome Roberson, until his passing.
Because of Rev. Rollins' leadership abilities, and strong "no nonsense" personality, the late Victor Jones, Director of Joy Unlimited Community Choir of Kansas City, asked him to be the Manager and Spiritual Advisor to the group. Without hesitation, he accepted. Rev. Rollins would let Joy Unlimited singers, musicians and directors know when we were not doing what God called us to do. He would not hold back his chastisement when it was called for. Next to being called to the Ministry, managing Joy Unlimited was one of his proudest moments.
Our Dad loved playing basketball and was very good at it. He was very artistic. He could draw anything free handed. In 1988 our mom bought him his first video camera. That piece of equipment put his artistic characteristics to the forefront. Dad became Kansas City's "go to" Videographer. He videoed weddings, funerals, musicals, family events, church services, birthday parties, the tearing down and building up of buildings and much more. He has captured thousands of events in the span of 30 plus years. His professionalism was seen through his video footage. In 2018 he was honored for his Videography Ministry.
Surrounded by his family, our Dad took his final breath on April 10th, 2022 on Palm Sunday. He was 76 years old.
Dad will forever be remembered by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Rollins, children; LaTonya Rollins, Raytown, Mo, Yolonda Rollins, Kenyetta Rollins, Edgar (Shareda) Rollins, Jr., and Sherrie (Vernon) Lee of Kansas City, MO. Grandchildren; Bryant Weems, Tya Rollins-Johnson, Ciarra Rollins, Kennedi Canady, Victoria Rollins, Vaida Rollins, Tylan Battle, Dominiquie Williams, Marcia Tibbs and Cailyn (Carl) Taylor all of Kansas City, MO. Great Grandchildren; Derike Pitchford, Amora Rollins, Kylie, Karlie and Krystal Taylor. His surviving sibling; Leola (David) Wilkerson of Chicago, IL., Father in Law; Robert L, White of Kansas City, KS, Brother in Law; James Stuckey, Jr. The Riddle Family, an abundance of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. God Children; Rev. Michael (Lynnette) Carter of Raytown, MO; Phyllis Hannah and Sir Brandon Rayford Williams of Kansas City, MO. Bonus Grandchildren, Lolita Hannah of Baltimore, MD and Nieshia Mason of Kansas City, MO. His Joy Unlimited Community Choir family, Church family; Greater Corinthian Church of the Christ, Non-Denominational and his friends in the Ministry.

Departed: 04/03/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: Ernestine Richetta Franklin (Parks), 65, passed away on April 3, 2022, at Kansas University Hospital, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on November 19, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri to Ernest Parks and Odessa Parks (McDowell). Ernestine grew up in Kansas City with her brothers, sisters, and cousins.
Although she did not graduate from high school, Ernestine obtained her GED and graduated with her LPN certificate from the Kansas City Kansas Community College in the late 1980’s. Ernestine began her career as an LPN and worked in the healthcare field at places such as Truman Medical Center, University Academy, Swope Health Center and a host of other hospitals and home health companies. “Ernie” and “Teenie”, as she was lovingly called by friends and family, had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. She loved her job, but most of all, she loved caring for and nurturing people.  Ernestine gave her life to Christ and became a member of The Arm of the Lord Evangelical Ministries where she traveled with Pastor Jesse Frazier and others spreading the word of God and the love of Christ on street corners near and far through testimony and song.
She raised two beautiful, loving children, Amber Parks (Corny J. Henderson: 1983) and Nicholas Franklin (Leon Franklin: 1991). She also did foster care for about five years. Ernestine instilled the love of Christ into both of her children and was an active member of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the evangelistic ministry and as a member of the choir.
In 2008, Ernestine gained an addition to her family, her grandson, Michael Hykes Jr. He became her running buddy, spend the night partner, and best friend; they were two peas in a pod. Her health began to fail, and Ernestine retired from nursing around 2015 because her health began taking a toll on her physically.  Today we remember her for her dedication, loving spirit, warm kindness, and faithfulness.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ernest Parks Sr. and Odessa Parks; aunts, Clarice Powel, Jimmie Lee McDowell, and Betty Parks; brothers, Reginald Parksel and Archie Parks; sister in-law, Joyce Parksel; and nephew, Michael Parks.
Ernestine leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Amber Parks; son, Nicholas Franklin; grandsons, Michael Hykes Jr. and Cameron Northern; granddaughters, Ciara Northern and Diamond Parks (Jaiden and Jaylen Frazier); aunt, Deborah Munson; brothers, Ernest Parks Jr. (Linda), Richard Parks (Karen), Andre Parksel, Shane Parks, Michael Parks (Lisa) , Alganon Parks, Pharaoh Parks, Artura Parks, Oasis Parks, Raheem Parks, Hassan Parks (Kendra), and Aaron Parks; sisters, Sonya Parks, Robin Parks, Personna Parks, Shantosha Parks, and Nijama Parks; sisters in-law, Shirley Parks and Deborah Parksel; and a host of other relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Roy Young III - November 13, 1980 - March 31, 2022

Departed: 03/31/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: Roy S. Young, III, affectionately known as Tre, was born November 13, 1980, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to JoAnn Tinney and Roy S. Young Jr. He departed this life on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Preceding him in death: maternal grandparents, Charles E. Tinney III and Betty Bailey, paternal grandmothers, Shirley F. Clarke and Betty Young, maternal great-grandmother, Naomi Hunter, paternal great-grandparents, Silas and Hazel Young and Clara Smith. Uncles, Ronald L. Young and Felix Dixon; and beloved nephew, Sean A. Winston II. As a child, Tre was a laid-back, drama-free type of guy. Being the only boy among five sisters, he learned very early to stay out of the way and maintain a low profile. He would often play with his video games, GI Joe collection, or trading cards. His cool demeanor followed him into his adult life. Tre enjoyed reading and would often encourage people to read the Bible for themselves. He would always say, "If it ain't in the Bible, I don't know nothing about it."
An avid football fan, Tre loved the Dallas Cowboys but later converted to the Kansas City Chiefs. He desired to play football when he was younger but was told he was not large enough. It was then he learned that he was gifted to run. Tre was a phenomenal runner, earning a Varsity letter at Park Hill High School, where he still holds several records. Often called "The Cleanup Man," everyone knew that during a relay, even if the team was not in the lead if Tre received a smooth handoff of the baton, a win was possible. Known for his upright running stance and moderate start, he often said, "you can't start out too fast; you must run the race with patience." He always finished strong, and his signature race was the 400M. In the first 200M, he could be spotted in the middle of the pack, but he would turn on the jets as soon as he hit the turn. You could hear people asking who he was and where he came from in the crowd. Tre competed at local, regional, and national levels. Traveling to a host of cities: Norfolk, Orlando, Oklahoma City, and St. Louis, to name a few. While competing at the AAU Junior Olympics in 1998, he was ranked 14th best in the country for the 400M in his age bracket. Upon graduating high school in 1999, he received a track scholarship to Park University in Parkville, Missouri.
In 2001, Tre enlisted in the National Guard/Air Force. He served until he was honorably discharged. His daily push-up routine was one that he continued even after he left the military. A lover of music, he aspired to be a rapper, but one of the proudest moments in his life was becoming a father.
The birth of his son Trevon Miller sparked a new fire in him. Tre would light up whenever he spoke of him, and although he did not see Trevon as often as he desired, that did not stop him from sharing his joy about him. His dream for Trevon was to grow up and be a strong, productive Black King! Another role he did not take lightly was being an uncle. He was great with his nieces and nephews and loved to play with them.
Memories of Tre are cherished by his mother, JoAnn Tinney, his father and bonus mom, Roy S. Jr., and T'Shanna Young, all of Kansas City, MO. Son, Trevon Miller, Lexington, KY, sisters: Nakia Tinney, Richmond, VA, Chanta Morrison (Jamie) Kansas City, MO, Ryan Tinney Lees Summit, MO, Alexis Jones (Donmiante) Blue Springs, MO, Araceli "KiKi" Cruz (Frankie) and Anele Rose Young of Kansas City, MO. Grandfather Roy S. Young Sr. (Germaine) Lenexa, KS, aunts: Lori Mitchell Kansas City, MO, Gina Tinney-Moye (Ronald) Atlanta, GA, Renee Carter (Eddie) New Haven, CT, uncles: Stephen Young New Britain, CT, and Mark Young, Dallas, TX. In addition to a host of Great Aunts and Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Tre will be deeply missed for his thoughtfulness, caring, and peaceful spirit. He has now completed the ultimate race and is at peace.
As he would always say, "God's got me," and we are glad that He does. Way to go, Champ; you have earned your reward.
