In 2000, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University, in Statesboro, Georgia. In early 2020, John became certified as an Anger Management Counselor, as well as a Grief Counselor, and even through illness was preparing to graduate from Capella University with his master’s degree at the end of 2020. As a teenager, John gained the nickname “Dusty” from his friends whom he loved as his own blood siblings, the “213 Family”. John “Dusty” Lee, Jr. and the 213 Family became known for setting dance floors on fire and attracting crowds. A white hand towel, a dance floor, and “Yeek” music were all they needed. Dusty and his baby brother, Mardo, became small-town icons for their ability and talent to move a crowd on any dance floor. Always being wise beyond his years, John took on the responsibility of guiding any young men or women who had ears. He could talk to any child for hours, teaching them to be “leaders and not followers”. John was highly intelligent, well-spoken, and loved learning. John had three hobbies that he loved. The first hobby, dancing. The second hobby was hunting. The third and most enjoyable hobby was debating. John would read for hours and stayed glued to ESPN, preparing for his weekly debate at Moore and Moore Barbershop or with his Facebook friends about any sport. He was known to post “the coaches should be fired immediately”, just to get a good debate started. On July 5, 2003, Dusty and the 213 Family became united to the love of his life, Alysha Michelle Gilmore. There was nothing he did not and would not do for her, even after being diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2007. Dusty loved Alysha so much that he asked her to marry him again, and they renewed their vows in June 2015. In June 2020, he was diagnosed with another terminal illness, and after many, many battles with sickness, the Lord gave him rest on October 15, 2020.Preceding him in death: his father, Rev.
