Departed: 04/23/2024 (Covington)
Obituary Preview: Thomas Ross Draper, 78, of Florence, KY, passed away after a long illness. Born on January 7, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, to Ernest M. and Holly R. Draper, Tom's early years took him from Brooklyn to Flushing Meadows, NY, New Canaan, CT, and Villanova, PA. Draper's journey through life was as diverse as it was vibrant. From his roots in Brooklyn, NY, to his educational pursuit at Dartmouth College, where he excelled in Political Science and embraced fraternity life in Phi Tau, he approached every opportunity with gusto. His career spanned from the pioneering days of TelRa films in Philadelphia to executive roles in marketing and communications at General Electric and beyond, leaving an indelible mark wherever he went.
Yet, it was Tom's passions beyond the office that truly defined him. A nationally recognized model builder specializing in World War I and II airplanes, he poured his heart into every intricately crafted piece. His love for American popular music, encompassing blues, doo-wop, and early rock and roll, resonated through his extensive record collection.
Tom found freedom and camaraderie behind the wheel of his cherished cars, including the Mazda Miata, Triumph TR3, and Mini Cooper. As President of The Miata Club of Greater Cincinnati, he led the charge, organizing driving rallies and sharing his passion for sports cars with the community.
As he leaves behind cherished memories, Tom's legacy lives on through his son, Charles Ernest Draper, and his extended family - his brothers, Steven M. Draper of Oceanport, NJ, and Lawrence R. Draper of Enfield, NH, along with his nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. He was not just a father, brother, and son but a beacon of passion, curiosity, and warmth to all who knew him.
