Obituary Preview: Joseph F. Stagnitta, Jr., 73, of Syracuse, passed away May 16, 2024. Joe worked at Midstate Contractors for many years. He also worked at Union Smoke Shop and was a bartender at Dygert's. He was an exceptional baseball player and could have played professional baseball. He was an avid bowler and liked to wager on the horses.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth (Storto) Stagnitta, Sr. He is survived by his brother, David Stagnitta.

Obituary Preview: NORINE ROUSHE BUNNELL-age 93, predeceased by her husband, John Bunnell, parents, Arthur & Beaulah Roushe, sisters, Sally Holmes and Barbara Burns, and daughter Leslie Bunnell.
Norine is survived by her sister, Lois Crowley, sons, Timothy Bunnell (Lori Miller), Pat Bunnell, Mike Bunnell, and daughter Susan Ewald (Doug). Norine has 10 grandchildren, Timothy & Daniel Bunnell, Erik Smith, Christopher Miller, Jacquline Reed, Kimberly Bunnell, Brandon, Benjamin, & Abigail Ewald, & Emily McGreevy. and is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
Norine spent years in the nursing profession which brought her great joy and pride and in fer free time she loved spending time with her family at her summer home in Henderson, NY.

Charles A. Owens - May 27, 1950 - May 01, 2024

Obituary Preview: Charles A. Owens, 73 of North Syracuse, NY passed away on May 1, 2024 after a courageous battle of pancreatic cancer.  He and his family were blessed to have him spend his final days at the Francis House in Syracuse.
Charlie was born in Syracuse, NY on May 27, 1950 to the late Robert A. and Concetta Owens.  He married the love of his life, Judith A. Owens, on June 3, 1972.
Charlie is survived by his children, Michelle (John) Williams, of Cicero, NY, Jason (Adrianna) Owens of Liverpool, NY, and his grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan & Drew Williams, and Graciella & Cooper Owens, who lovingly called him “Pa.” He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Beatrice) Owens, Steven (Vicky) Owens, and his sisters Mary (Michael) Graves, and Barbara Verne, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Laura Preble.
Charlie was a great family man and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He spent much of his time attending all of his grandchildren’s “events.” He loved music and spent many evenings going to concerts in the park with his family. He Bled Orange – Go ‘Cuse & was a Phin Phinatic – Go Dolphins, and would watch every game religiously. When he wasn’t rooting for his favorite teams, you could find him fitting in a game at the local bowling alley with friends.
Calling hours will be held from 11:30 – 12:30 on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Sears-Middleton, Matthewson Funeral Home in North Syracuse, NY with a service to follow.  Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlie’s life.

James R. Greene Sr. - July 26, 1942 - April 27, 2024

Greene Sr, (81) of North Syracuse, NY passed away April 27th 2024 surrounded by family.  Jim was a courageous survivor who battled Multiple Myeloma for decades.   His life was well lived and he enjoyed meeting up with friends out and about and golfing with his buddy John.  He was a longtime supporter of Syracuse University football, basketball and lacrosse teams and the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. Jim also enjoyed music and dancing to everything from the Rolling Stones to Waylon Jennings.   He was a capable and enthusiastic DYI handyman, coached area Little League baseball teams during his children’s youth, supported the booster club, and was an avid player of scratch off tickets and the lottery.
He leaves behind his wife Cindy, daughters Michele McGivney, Denise Greene (Wendy Ackerman), and stepdaughter Rachael Vermette. He is also survived by two granddaughters Hillary McGivney and Emily Gilmore and daughter in law Julie Greene, his brother Joe Greene (Carol) and Cousin Ginger Gedney, and was pre-deceased by his parents Henry and Leona and also by his brother Gary.  He was also pre-deceased by his son James “Jimmy” R. Greene Jr. Services will be held Thursday May 2, 2024 at Sears-Middleton-Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street North Syracuse, NY. Born in Constable, NY, she married her childhood sweetheart in Huntingdon, Québec, moved to Syracuse, NY in 1955, and ran her own business as a cosmetologist in Liverpool, NY. June was a communicant and active member of Saint Joseph's Parish in Liverpool, NY. Anyone who knew June knew her as a kind, loving role model, who welcomed all to her table with a pot of tea, a hearty meal and plenty of conversation.
June was admitted to St. Joseph's hospital, and passed away peacefully a few days later surrounded by her loving family.
June was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Melvin Forget; brothers Raymond Clark and Lyle Curry; and her sisters Anne Baker and Irene Bouthillier. She is survived by her daughter, Darlyn Frass of Liverpool, NY; son, Craig Forgette of Buffalo, NY; six grandchildren, and dozens of nieces and nephews in Canada.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Saturday June 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Athelstan Presbyterian Cemetery in Québec, followed by a ceremony of remembrance and refreshments at the Canadian Legion Hall at 8 Chem. Fairview, Huntingdon, QC J0S 1H0, Canada.

She worked at Nichols Market for 15 years as night manager. She was teachers aide at Liverpool High School and taught adult education. She retired from Onondaga County Department of Social Services.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Duane Don Noyes and her brothers, Harrison and William Menkins.
She is survived by her children, Diane Knapp and Thomas Noyes (Angela Wehrle), her grandchildren, Michael Knapp (Kamu), Amanda Ross (Nic), Daniel Notes ( Marlen) and great grandchildren, Madita, Arthur, Julius and Gregor Noyes, Gina and Maya Wehrle, Evan and Connor Ross and Elliot and Lula Knapp.

Obituary Preview: Daniel Paul Van Meter of Central Square N.Y, passed away on April 12, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. He was born to parents Lloyd and Martha Van Meter in Syracuse, N.Y.
Dan spent his entire life in the Syracuse region, graduating from CNS High School in 1985. He worked most of his career as a hardwood floor installation and refinishing craftsman.  Most recently he worked as a partner with Bill Farrell, owner/operator of Central NY Hardwood Floors for over 10 years. Daniel was an avid outdoorsman and loved to snowmobile, hunt, and fish.  He was the winner of the annual Cicero-Mattydale Lions Club Walleye Derby in 2012 for largest fish.  Daniel is survived by many friends including best friend and business partner, Bill Farrel and Jodi Wiedenbeck, a high school classmate and lifelong friend.  He was pre-deceased by sister, Elizabeth and brother, Richard and has four surviving siblings: brothers, Robert, of Burke Virginia, William of Ava Missouri, James of Central Square NY, and sister, Laura of Surfside Beach South Carolina. Obituary Preview: Arlene Becker, passed away peacefully in her sleep April 8, 2024. She was a woman who lived and breathed for her family. Arlene was always worried about others before herself, a true gift to those who knew her. Arlene lived life to its fullest thru simple pleasures like visiting, chatting and spending meals with her loved ones. She especially enjoyed time with her grandsons; Ryan Mattiacio, Michael Stewart and Jason Humphrey along with her 5 great grandchildren, Karah, Olivia, Harper, Braxton and Josie. Her beloved husband, George, always referred to her as “R” and they were inseparable until his passing. Married for over 50 years…together they had 3 children, 3 grandsons and 5 great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Dora Harke, her two daughters,Sandy Humphrey & Cinthia Stewart. Her strength and perseverance through life is something to be truly admired. May she rest in eternal peace with her husband, George and son, Al. She is survived by her mother, Sharon Thayer, her sister, Amanda Tillotson Orr of Felton, California, an Uncle & Aunt, Jim & Lorie Tillotson of Venice, Florida, her Aunt, Sandra Tillotson and her Aunt, Tina Tillotson, both of Syracuse, New York, along with numerous cousins.
Trista was an angel from heaven, who came from GOD & to GOD she has returned. We knew her not though hard we tried. So strong a spirit, a light divine. Smiles she shared to touch our hearts, reminding us, she too, was sharing her heart. Giving all she had her very best, to share with those she loved.
Now she is whole in her resurrected body & mind.
She would want you all to be happy for her, & to remember she loves you.

Obituary Preview: Debra J. Nuzzo, 61, of Manlius, New York, passed away in the early morning on March 24th. Funeral mass will be held at Divine Mercy Parish in Central Square on April 2nd at 1pm, with a reception/visitation for family and friends at the church starting at 2pm after mass concludes.
Debra was born in Trenton, New Jersey to Richard and Jeanne Hart. She went on to attend and graduate from Syracuse University. She would then begin a career in real estate as well as at Red Lobster. After a few years Debbie left the workforce to focus on her family in which she succeeded in every way and more.
Debbie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was the most selfless person there could ever be. She would not hesitate to help anyone in need no matter what or when. Even though our loss is devastating, our loss is God’s gain. God is receiving an angel. There was no one more important in our family and she was the glue that held everyone together, through thick and thin.
Debbie left behind her husband John, parents, Richard and Jeanne, brother, Richard Hart Jr, two sons, Jonathan (Marisa) and David (Chloe), two granddaughters, Amelia and Cecilia, one grandson, Nathaniel and one grandchild to be.
Debbie, lovingly known as Mom and Grandma, was everyone's best friend and everyone's favorite person. She loved to do anything as long as it was with family. She would go out to dinner with John, David and Chloe every Tuesday. She would watch her three grandkids and play with them when Jonathan and Marisa would drop them off. Debbie would have daily phone calls with her mother, Jeanne and her son, David. She always showed everyone how much she loved them even when she disagreed with something. She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, always cheering on the Phillies and Eagles, often texting and calling her sons to discuss game stats, wins, losses and changes she would make if she was the coach.
There will never be anyone like Debbie and we all miss her dearly. We are thankful she is in peace and no longer in pain. We love and miss you so much. Rest In Peace you beautiful soul. Leave condolences for the family on the Tribute Wall

Ruth made an impression on everyone she met with her warm smile and generous spirit. Ruth is survived by her loving family including her children, Glenn (Cathie), Michael (Dawn Hopkins), Elaine (Richard) Huff, Gary (Katherine), George and Robert (Sandi Scott); her
siblings, Everett Tuttle, Linda Karpouzes and Carol Tuttle; her grandchildren, Kristin Stevenson, Kimberly Kennedy, Samantha Wetherson, Christopher Adams, Elizabeth Adams as well as great grandchildren, Dontay, Raegan, Quinn, Denver, Willow, Peyton, Calvin and Brooklyn. Ruth was predeceased by her siblings Joan Fryman and James Tuttle as well as Patricia O’Mara who was like part of the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Marlene spent many years as an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hamilton serving on the alter guild.
Marlene is predeceased by her parents, her sister Shirley Swisher and brother Darryl Skelton.
She is survived by her daughters Stacey (Gerry) Tarbell of Volney, NY Kathy Maille of Spring Lake NC.  Grandchildren Jason (Stephanie) Tarbell of Fallston, MD; Matthew (Bryanna) Tarbell of Lumber Bridge NC; Rebecca Maille (Josh Craig) of Chateaugay, NY and Jamie (Edward) Macialek of Spring Lake NC; great-grandchildren Luke Tarbell and Brayden Craig and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.  Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hamilton, NY March 27th at 12:00 noon followed by interment in the Memorial Garden at the church.

Douglas H. Platt - June 16, 1926 - March 12, 2024

Obituary Preview: Douglas H Platt, was born June 16th, 1926 in Jersey City NJ, to Floyd and Marion Platt. He died March 12th 2024, after a weekend surrounded by friends and family, following a brief illness.
Douglas was a self employed water well driller. And a proud WWII veteran, where he was a rear gunner for the Navy.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Maryann, his parents, all of his siblings, and two grandchildren.
Douglas is survived by his estranged son: Douglas Platt of Polk City FL, daughter: Lynn Morris(Carl) of Oswego NY, son: David Platt(Liz) of Summit NJ, ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, as well as many friends he collected along the way.
The family finds comfort knowing that he is at peace and reunited with his loving wife of 60 years, and prior to his passing he had enjoyed a full adventure filled life. Including family trips to many coastal towns where he visited lighthouses, museums, and battleships galore, day trips to Disney and Circus World, he was happiest when he was with his family. Douglas was not a stranger to adventure, on his 90th birthday he went skydiving, 91st birthday he went paragliding, 92nd birthday he flew a glider. Douglas was honored to be included in the Honor Flight that flew out of Syracuse in September of 2021 and would talk about that day and his experiences all the time.
The family would like to thank Crouse Irving Hospital, and all of the nurses and aides from the second floor at Loretto Fahey.

Susan Leigh Wallace - March 17, 1950 - March 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Susan Leigh (Dimon) Wallace, 73, departed this world March 10 in her home in North Syracuse, NY. Sue was married to her loving husband, Paul Wallace, for 49 years.
Sue was a beloved mom of three, Ben Wallace (Idaho), Chelsea Ingrassia (N. Syracuse), and Heather Murphy (Fulton, NY). She has 6 siblings, Sally (Speculator, NY), Myron Jr. (Skip, N. Syracuse, NY), Sandy (Canton, NY), Sydney (Natick, MA), Sheila (Andover, MA), and Shelly (Merritt Island, FL). She also has 4 well-loved grandchildren.
Sue is predeceased by her parents, Myron and Gladys Dimon.
Susan graduated from Oswego High School (1968) and SUNY Buffalo (1972). She received her Master’s in Motor Learning through Columbia University. Susan was an Occupational Therapist in Rochester General, Hoboken, NJ, and the North Syracuse school system, having retired in 2018, and Hear 2 Learn, having retired in 2020.
Susan brought her family together with her organizational and decorative skills. She loved colors, especially painting her home.  She is likely decorating and painting the many mansions in heaven. Sue was involved in several committees at The Gathering Place (NSBC) and played violin beautifully. She also enjoyed traveling with her family, having visited France, England, Ireland, and several trips to National Parks in the western US and Canada. She volunteered in Liberia for a month doing occupational therapy. She also backpacked multiple peaks in the Adirondacks. She also ardently helped renovate the family cottage in Fair Haven. Sue had a special knack for gardening and landscaping.
Calling hours will be held Friday, March 15th from 4-7pm at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse. Funeral service will be Saturday March 16th at 11am with visitation from 10:15-10:45am at The Gathering Place, 420 S. Main St., North Syracuse. Burial in spring.

However, Gladys's greatest accomplishment lay in her steadfast devotion to her faith. She was a pillar of her community, her spirituality guiding her every action. As a member of Syracuse Alliance Church, Gladys's unwavering commitment to Christ touched the lives of many, offering solace, support, and love to all who crossed her path.
Beyond her spiritual endeavors, Gladys was a beacon of light in her personal relationships. In moments of leisure, she found joy in the company of her cherished family and friends, her warm presence filling any room with laughter and love.
Gladys leaves behind a legacy that will endure through the ages. She is survived by her loving children, Frederick Cross and Earl Williams, whose lives she enriched beyond measure. We also honor the memory of her late daughter, Ida Lee. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of siblings, grandchildren, and a multitude of cherished loved ones, each carrying a piece of her spirit within their hearts.
As we bid farewell to Gladys Williams, we find solace in knowing that her kindness, her wisdom, and her unwavering faith will continue to inspire us all. Though she may be gone from our sight, her memory will forever shine brightly, a beacon of hope and love in our lives. Obituary Preview: Justine Catherine (Bertrand) Ferrel, 82, of Clay passed away on February 13, 2024. Justine was born December 2, 1941, in East Syracuse, NY, to Sherman and Laura (Ruszczyk) Bertrand. She was a 1959 graduate of East Syracuse High School, where she was voted “Most Talkative” by her class.
She spent over a decade working at Carrier Corp., where she met the love of her life, John, whom she married in 1974 in Tulsa, OK. She worked for Dictaphone in Tulsa, then became a devoted stay-at-home mother after the birth of her daughter Laura. Justine and John missed being close to family, so they returned to Central New York in 1979, settling in Clay, and their daughter Dana was born in Syracuse.
Justine was an avid bowler and Bunco player, and she spent many happy years volunteering at Bear Road Elementary School in North Syracuse, pitching in as a room mother, assisting with early computer training, helping with the annual Craft Fair, and supporting the Apple Muffin Gang with everything from wrangling muffins to chaperoning Albany trips. She enjoyed monthly get-togethers with childhood friends and regular Friday lunches with her sisters. Justine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be dearly missed.
She was predeceased by her sister, Corinne Kurgan and brother-in-law, Stanley Kurgan and her brother, Richard Bertrand (Therese).
Justine is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, John; daughters, Laura Ferrel and Dana Dwyer (Michael); cherished granddaughter, Avery Dwyer; siblings, Sherman Bertrand (Sheila), Patricia Baum (Warren), and George Bertrand (Patricia); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew’s Church, East Syracuse, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minoa. February 9th, 2024 at St Joesph’s Hospital in Syracuse with her family at her bedside. Anita was born on June 7, 1944 in Petaluma, CA, the daughter of Donald and Helen (Fargo) Morehouse. On June 4, 1966 she married James H Wheeler at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watertown, NY. Anita is predeceased by her parents, and her brother Donald Jr. Anita is survived by her husband, James and her children James (Catherine) Wheeler, Jack (Kelly) Wheeler, Jennifer Wheeler, Jeremy (Emily) Wheeler, and Jonathan Wheeler; Anita was also blessed with four grandchildren (Christopher, Joshua, Adrienne, Coraline). Anita is also survived by her sisters, Helen
(Robert) Hillis, Annie (Scott) Greene and Mary (Raymond) Weston. Anita graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in June 1962. She then attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in August 1965. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital until marrying in 1966. Anita was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with family including regular Sunday dinners together. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening and baking. Anita
loved printing greeting cards and sending them to family and friends for all occasions. For several years she was a puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She enjoyed traveling since she was a child including places such as Africa, Germany, Alaska and throughout the US, and was gifted a surprise family vacation in West Virginia for her and Jim’s 50th wedding anniversary. Anita enjoyed annual camping trips to the
Adirondacks with family. As a nurse she understood the need for medical education, so she gifted herself to the
Anatomical Gift Program at Upstate Medical University.
Per Anita’s wishes, no services will be held. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St Joseph’s Health Foundation, with a designation to College of Nursing General

Westcoe embraced life's simple pleasures, finding happiness in cooking, spending quality time with loved ones, indulging in a variety of movies, and immersing himself in music. He also had a passion for building model cars and proudly amassed a collection, earning himself the nickname "Chevy". A dedicated fan of the Buffalo Bills, he relished watching football games and proudly identified as a member of the "Bills Mafia." Westcoe was known for his sociable nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life, often extending his circle to include them as "family".
Westcoe is preceded in death by his parents, Westcoe Williams Sr. and Carmen Williams, his brother Eric Williams, and his eldest son, Westcoe "Manzie" Williams III. He leaves behind cherished memories with his loving partner, Roxanne Johnson; his children, Antwan Williams, Dorell Lucas, Carol Williams, and Ericka Williams; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his estranged wife, Yolanda Woodley; and numerous other beloved family and friends.

She loved to travel, cooking and baking, spending time with family, working in her gardens and with her honeybees.
