Carlinda Goolsby Lane - October 14, 1936 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Van Alstyne)
Obituary Preview: Carlinda Goolsby Lane was born at home on a farm in Howe, Texas on October 14, 1936. She was the daughter of James Robert Goolsby and Edith Akins Goolsby. She grew up in Howe until the second grade when her family moved to Van Alstyne, Texas.
In second grade, Carlinda met Weldon “Sonny” Lane who, little did she know, would become her husband on March 6, 1955 in Durant, Oklahoma. They were seniors at Van Alstyne High School when they borrowed $20 and secretly eloped. Although everyone thought they were far too young at the time, they celebrated 69 years of marriage on March 6, 2024.
Carlinda graduated from Van Alstyne High School and obtained an Associate’s Degree from Grayson County College. She worked in education as a teacher’s aide for many years in Van Alstyne. She had such a love for her students, and made a lasting impression on many during her time in the classroom. She later transitioned to Sherman ISD in the administration offices, where she retired in 1998.
Carlinda had a very strong faith and loved the Lord. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Van Alstyne where she taught Sunday School classes and touched the lives of many through her involvement and lessons. She especially loved her College and Career class and helping with the youth group. She later became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Van Alstyne to attend with family. In recent years, she could not attend due to illness, but she always watched online and longed to be there rejoicing in person. She read her Bible daily to keep her mind active and feel the presence of God.
Carlinda and Sonny had a special circle of lifelong friends that became more like family. They would vacation together, meet up at restaurants once a month, throw holiday parties, or just get together for a game of “42.” She particularly loved her daily chats with her best friend, Jackie Cavender.
Family was her greatest passion. She loved Sonny for 69 years, and they built a legacy together. Carlinda always knew the location and accomplishments of every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. She wanted reports from each one daily to let her know everything was good. Her joy was cheering on her grandchildren in sports, enjoying them singing, and watching them succeed in careers and their own families.
Carlinda is survived by her husband, Sonny Lane, of Van Alstyne, Texas; her son, Robbie (JoAnn) Lane, of Sanger, Texas; and her daughter, Laurie (David) Ortel, of Van Alstyne, Texas. She has one sister, Gail (Dan) Stephens of Dallas, Texas. She has five grandchildren: Caleb (Elettra) Lane of Long Island, New York; Zachary (Portia) Lane of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Cole (Rebecca) Lane of Gilbert, Arizona; Carly (Seth) Loggins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Laney (Brian) Jones of Van Alstyne, Texas. She also has five great-grandchildren: Bailey and Revlyn Lane, Ronin and Viggo Lane, and Beckett Jones.
She is reunited in Heaven with her parents, Bob and Edith Goolsby, and her brother, Duion Goolsby.
A Celebration of life will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel, with Carlinda's Great Nephew Pastor Richmond Goolsby, officiating.
