Obituary Preview: Berniece G. Bonnell, 104 of Mendota passed away Wednesday January 29, 2020 at the Mendota Lutheran Home. Visitation will be February 10, 2020 from 9:30am until service time of 11am in Schwarz Funeral Home. The Rev. David Jungnickel will officiate with burial to follow in Restland Memorial Gardens, Mendota.
Berniece was born in Ashton, Illinois to George and Anna (Seebach) Vogeler. She married Homer Bonnell in Ashton on July 11, 1934. Berniece was the ultimate homemaker and farm partner. She was a marvelous cook. Berniece was a prolific crocheter making purses, baby sweaters and booties, and an afghan for nearly all her grandchildren.
She belonged to the Green River Saddle Club.
Berniece is survived by two sons: Milton (Audrey) Bonnell of La Moille and Larry (Annette) Bonnell of La Moille; three daughters: Darlene Untz of La Moille, Carol (Richard) Vaughan of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Donna (John "Jack") Manning of Mendota; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband 2/10/94, her parents and 2 sisters.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Dennis and Scott Antoine, Bret, Bruce, Derek and Greg Bonnell, Robert Manning, Bruce and Keith Untz.

Ed was born December 14, 1960 in Mendota to Billy and Betty (Frey) Shaw. He attended Mendota High School and was a Truck Driver for many years with Roger Jameson Trucking.

Survivors include his Mother : Betty Shaw of Mendota; one sister: Dessa (Keith) Collings of Mendota; daughter of his heart: Azure Moss and her children: Kamden Moss and Kyler Meyer; five nieces and nephews: Justin Collings, Meghan (Greg) Caley, Chelsey (Andrew) Maunu, Adam Hamilton, and Jake Hamilton; step niece and nephew: Ian (Julie) Hamilton and Valerie (Jamie) Humpfrey; 6 great nieces and nephews; and special cousins: Chad, Kevin, Ralph and Andrea.
Ed was preceded in death by his Father in 1988, and sister Linda Hamilton 3/17/2012.

She is survived by: 2 sons: Thomas (Cathy) Burke of Mendota and Roger (Martha) Burke of Mendota; 7 daughters: Pamela (Greg) Donoho of Fulton, Il., Eileen (William) Twardowski of Peru, Diane Spiegel of Peru, Nancy (Frank) Brodko of Mendota, Janice (Steve) Nowlin of Mendota, Beverly (James) Wallery of The Woodlands, Tx., and Barbara (George) Needs of Peru; 23 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren-with one on the way; and one sister: Lucille Stadel of Henry. he was with Motor Wheel until their closing, and was then a forklift driver for RR Donnelly.
He belonged to the V.F.W. Post # 4079 Auxiliary. In his free time Ed loved fishing, playing horseshoes, and Euchre.
Ed is survived by: one son: Eddie (Amber) Botts of Earlville; one daughter: Kelly (Kevin) Thurman of Davis Junction; 5 grandchildren: Geofry Gann, Gared Botts, Kelsie Thurman, Gracie Botts and Abbie Botts; one great granddaughter: Arya Gann; long time companion: Stacy Olesen of Mendota; his cat Scooter; and special family members: Heather Sharpe Polk, Kyle Dirksen and Denny Dirksen.

Char was born September 17, 1930 in Sublette, Illinois to Leo and Clara (Weber) Glaser. She graduated Lee County High School in 1947. She married the love of her life, Delmar Delhotal on September 16, 1950 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Sublette. During her long work career Charlotte helped her husband on the family farm from 1953 -1983, and in addition waitressed in the Dixon Sterling area, and at the Parkway Restaurant in Mendota until her retirement. She was actively involved in St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society, West Brooklyn, the Mendota Elks Lodge #1212, St. Mary's Church and Holy Cross. Char and Delmar enjoyed many family vacations. They loved to travel and sponsored many Las Vegas trips. Char was a "Bingo Queen", playing for 50 plus years, having her own "Bingo family".
Among those who survive and will miss her most: two sons: Charlie (Diane) Delhotal of Mesa, Arizona and Jim (Carrie) Delhotal of Mendota; three daughters: Peggy (Tom) Carr of Princeton, Kathy (Joe) Schmitt of Peru and Lori (Mike) Hubbell of Dixon, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren; and one sister: Carol (Robert) DeAngelo of Peru. Char is preceded in death by: her husband 5/23/98; son: Richard Delhotal 11/6/18; one grandson: Travis Hubbell; her parents; one brother: Gib Glaser and one sister: Marian Kerchner.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 18 at St. Mary's Church, West Brooklyn with Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Brooklyn. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 17 from 4-7 in Schwarz Funeral Home, Mendota, and one hour prior to services in the church. Gerald was born August 30, 1936 in Spearville, Kansas to Clements and Helen (Highland) Hornung. He married Janet Gehant on February 6, 1958 and they were able to celebrate
60 wonderful years together before she passed on May 6, 2018.
Gerald came to work for Mayrath in Compton, and held a job with the highway division of Illinois. In 1966 he started his own very successful business, Hornung Tiling Service, which he developed and ran well into his 70's. He will be forever remembered for taking care of his family, and spending his years of retirement giving his love, support and time to his wife Janet who he respected and adored. Jerry was active in his community and was involved for many years as a volunteer Fireman with the West Brooklyn
Volunteer Fire Dept., was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, was a member of the Land improvement Contractors of America and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Gerald never met a stranger, and you knew when you got a phone call he would first say-" Yeah, What you doin?"
Survivors include his children: Richard Hornung of West Brooklyn; Robert (Ann) Hornung of Kearney, Mo.; LuAnn (Bob) Kromm of West Brooklyn, and Connie (Dan) Retzer of Rockford; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother: Fred Hornung of Dodge City, Ks.; 3 sisters: Maryann Johnson of Dodge City, Ks., Sherrie (Don) Nau of Dodge City, Ks., and Theresa Barnett of Spearville, Ks.

Bob was born October 28, 1948 in Mendota to Burthal and Betty (Moore) Stevens. He married Nancy Christman August 2, 1969 in Ottawa.
Bob worked at FS as a diesel mechanic. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Mendota and the Mendota VFW.
Bob loved fishing and boating on the river. He also enjoyed solitaire and baseball.
Bob served with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of Mendota, children; William (Jamie) Bromenshankel of Peru, Dessa (Bill) Keigley of Mendota, Shellie (Bryan) Henderson of Mendota, Donna Stevens of Mendota and Michael (Angela) Stevens of Mendota, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, sisters; Vicki Setchell and Teri (Joe) Schmidt both of Mendota and his beloved dog and constant companion Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nancy K. Stevens and a granddaughter Destiny Kerchner.

Irene was born June 12, 1922 in Leonore, Illinois to John and Emma (Appel) Wiesbrock. She married Leon Sondgeroth on November 22, 1945, he preceded her on February 2, 2016.
During her work career Irene was the Bakery Manager at Classon's Super Food for many years, she was then a cafeteria worker at Northbrook Elementary School until her retirement.
Irene was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Ladies Altar and Rosary Society of Peterstown, LaSalle County Home Extension and the neighborhood Euchre Club.
She was known for her wonderful cooking and delicious pies. Irene was an outstanding Scrapbooker and Archivist. All the grandchildren benefitted from these talents.
Survivors: 2 sons: Allen (Mary Lynn) Sondgeroth of Mendota and Leo (Lois) Sondgeroth of Sandwich; 5 grandchildren: Elizabeth (Steven) Woods, Douglas (Aina Gutierrez) Sondgeroth, Nathan (Jennifer) Sondgeroth, Maria (Tim) Kessler and Neil Sondgeroth; 9 great grandchildren: Garrett Woods, Gavin Woods, Brynn woods, Ryan Sondgeroth, Avery Sondgeroth, Eva Sondgeroth, Asher Sondgeroth, Elsa Sondgeroth and Justin Kessler, and sister-in-law Mary Wiesbrock of Streator.

Maria is survived by: one son: David (Alma) Navarro of Fontana, California; two daughters: Elizabeth (John) Gonzalez and Veronica (Jose) Diaz both of Mendota; 14 grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Anastasia Rivera; three brothers: Rutilio (Socorro) Figueroa of Duarte, California, Juan Antonio (Maria) Figueroa and Jose (Socorro) Figueroa both of Mendota, and one sister: Ildeliza (Jesus) Sandoval of Mexico. She was preceded by her parents, husband, son: Jaime Navarro, brother: Baudelio Figueroa, and one sister: Maria Figueroa.

Gladys was born March 27, 1923 at Harris Hospital in Mendota to Milton and Adah (Hiltabrand) Teauseau. She attended Mendota schools graduating with the class of 1941. Gladys married Donald C. Schmitt on October 10, 1943. Following his death on April 22, 1972 she worked at Spurgeon Department Store until it closed in July of 1993. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Through the years she spent many hours doing volunteer work for Holy Cross School, Mendota Tri-County Fair, Hume-Carnegie Museum, Nightengale's Closet and Thrift Store, and the Mendota Food Pantry.
Gladys is survived by her daughter: Linda (Marvin) DeWaele of Mendota; three grandchildren: Pam (Bill) Hensley of Mendota, Mark DeWaele of Mendota and Don (Angela) DeWaele of Mendota; nine great grandchildren, and two half brothers: Robert Teauseau and Charles (Myrna) Teauseau both of Florida.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents: Adah and William Leifeit, Tony and Betty Teauseau, and a son-in-law, Martin Schrader.

Human Resources. Katie enjoyed photography. Some of her favorite activities were walking and spending time in nature. Katie absolutely loved the cold and snow. She was a volunteer for the area March of Dimes, was a volunteer for T.E.C.-Teens Encounter Christ, and enjoyed helping her parents at the Farmer's
Market in Chicago.
Katie is survived by her parents of Mendota; one brother: Andrew (Jill) Sondgeroth of Germantown Hills; paternal grandparents: Robert and Mary Sondgeroth of Mendota; two nieces: Emma and Hannah Sondgeroth; two nephews: Ben and Will Sondgeroth; her beloved cat: Hemi; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Paul and Marge Joerger.
Pallbearers will be Dan, Patrick and Stephen Cashner, Devin Henkel, Peter Herman and Joshua Randolph.

On November 28, 1945 she married Wayne Stamberger Sr. at Clarion Evangelical Lutheran Church. During her work career Millie was in the shop of Heico until her retirement in 1984. During the summer she enjoyed visiting at the Mendota Farmers Market where she sold her delicious beer mustard.
Survivors include son: Wayne (Kathi) Stamberger Jr. of LaMoille; 3 grandchildren: Brian (Amanda) Stamberger of Mendota and Jason (Shelly) Stamberger of Mendota, and Tracy Wright of Princeton; 7 great grandchildren: Blake, Trent, Dominik, Ashtyn, Harper, Gavin and Jaxon Stamberger., and one sister: June (Don) Kofoid of Mendota. Survivors include five sons: Dan Frelk of Wisconsin, Butch Stockton of Loves Park, James (Connie) Berry of Montgomery, John (Vicki Biederstedt) Stockton of Sublette, and Bobby (Leann) Berry of Montgomery; four daughters: Paula (Bill) Berry of Oswego, Kathy (Mark) Davis of Mendota, Earlene (Bob Nolte) Angell of Galena, Cindy (Paul Smith) Berry of LaMoille, and several grand and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary on 8/19/2009 and one son Howie on 12/11/1994.

During his work career he was in machine repair with the Ford Stamping plant. Bill retired in 1987 after 30 years. He was a member of the Peru YMCA for many years, and Mendota V.F.W. Post #4079.
Survivors include: one daughter: Joy (Kevin) Daly of Sublette, where Bill made his home; two sons: (John) Russell (Sharon) Lenich of Plainfield and Bob Lenich of Key West, Florida; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law; Vicki Lenich of Salinas, Ca.
Bill is proceeded by: his wife, Virginia on 10/19/2014, his parents, his beloved dog Allie; 3 sisters: Julie Lenich, Margaret Lenich and Agnes Lenich, and one brother: Clarence Lenich.

Obituary Preview: Donald W. Estes, 73 of Mendota, formerly a 66 year resident of Aurora, passed away on December 25, 2018 in his home with his children by his side.
Don was born December 10, 1945 in Aurora to Carl L. and Emma L. (Eggert) Estes. Don had a typical 1950's childhood, having grown up on the west side of Aurora, Illinois, participating in Cub Scouts and Little League baseball. In his senior year of high school his family moved to the east side of Aurora where he graduated from East Aurora High School in 1964. That same year Don married Sarah Marzuki, and together they raised two wonderful children.
Don worked for Modern Foundations, a construction company owed by his Uncle Andy. Later he worked for Singer Sewing Company in downtown Aurora for many years. In retirement Don was a driver for CTX Company out of Detroit, Michigan.
An avid fisherman, he was a life-long member of the Lucky 50 Club in Montgomery, Illinois. A special joy for him was to take his grandson fishing for blue gill at the club.
Don is survived by his daughter: Lynette Walter of Jacksonville; his son: Kenneth Estes of Jacksonville; one grandson: Andrew Walter (fiancée Monica Smith) of Deville, Louisiana; one granddaughter: Caitlin Walter of Bronx, New York; his brother: Gary (Mary) Reinert of Beebe, Arkansas; and two nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and step-mother Anna Estes.
A memorial service will be at a later date as he has donated his body to science.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Illinois Foundation for Deaf Children at Illinois School for the Deaf.
