Sharlene Budge - August 27, 1950 - February 19, 2022

Departed: 02/19/2022 (Afton)
Obituary Preview: Sharlene Budge, 71, of Thayne, Wyoming, went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 19, 2022.
Sharlene was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, August 27, 1950, to Jean (Sermon) and Lowell Payne. She was born with two front bottom teeth and the doctors told her parents their next child would be born with a pair of shoes. Sharlene was never given a middle name. She lived in the same house on Rose Avenue in Idaho Falls until 1968. Being brought up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she had 47 children living in her neighborhood.
Sharlene attended schools in Idaho Falls until the 11th grade. Being in the baby boomer generation she went to split sessions at Skyline High School in the old Idaho Falls High School building. She moved to Jackson, Wyoming, and finished her education there, graduating from Jackson-Wilson High School in 1968.
Sharlene was married to Allen Budge May 3, 1969. They were married for 53 years sharing life’s joys, sorrows, and triumphs side by side.
Sharlene and Allen had three children, Jason (1970) followed by Jeremy (1972) and Stacy (1977). Sharlene loved traveling to watch her children compete in sports. She supported Jason and Jeremy in their Little Waxers and High School ski team along with football, baseball, and basketball, followed by cheering on Stacy in volleyball, basketball, horse 4-H, and rodeo.
Sharlene and Allen went into business creating Allen Budge Construction in 1974. They moved into the first home they built for themselves on Budge Drive the same year. Their office was always in their home, and home and business were blended in their life.
After many years in the construction business, Sharlene and Allen took a break from 1994 to 1995 to pursue a career with Usana (a vitamin and health company). They traveled in a motorhome and had an office in Jackson. Sharlene made many friends and enjoyed the Usana conventions and even a company cruise. They built another house for themselves next door on Budge Drive and moved into it in 1998.
Sharlene and Allen got back into the construction business when they asked a former employee, Brian (Woody) Woodruff, to partner with them to create BW Builders. Sharlene loved her working family. She graciously hosted Christmas parties and  BBQs and provided bagels, subs, donuts, pizzas.  She fondly remembered Woody’s “10 below breakfasts” at the Village Inn with the crew. With many great subcontractors, customers, and employees along the way, BW Builders was a very successful business, creating beautiful homes and business buildings.
Sharlene enjoyed camping and sitting around the fire creating Dutch oven delicacies. She also liked boating, skiing and snowmachining. But nothing matched her desire for traveling and exploring the United States and bordering countries.
Sharlene and Allen explored new places in their motorhomes and on four-wheelers. They bought their first motorhome in 1994 and traveled to 14 states and through Alaska, Canada and 450 miles into Old Mexico. One of her most repeated trips was to Sacramento, California, to visit her mother and brothers Danny and Kelly. She and Allen took many trips around the western states on their four-wheelers. Many of the adventures involved Allen’s parents Orin and Bonnie Budge as well as many other friends and family members. One of her favorite adventures was a week on the Paiute Trail in central Utah which runs from the Canadian border to the Mexican border. She never rode it in one trip like she wanted but she did ride a lot of the trail during several different trips. As she traveled she loved to learn about history, new cultures, and more about her heritage.
Sharlene answered the calling of the Holy Spirit and came forward to an altar call at the First Baptist Church December 19, 1999, and was baptized January 11, 2000. Knowing her life was on a better path as a born again Christian, Sharlene introduced the Bible to Allen and they enjoyed reading it aloud to each other. She deeply appreciated the bond between her sisters in Christ, those who walked the footsteps of faith. She said sharing a special bond of worship and their love of the Lord was a blessing beyond words. She was always willing to teach the word of the Lord and help others welcome the Lord into their hearts.
Sharlene and Allen built a “playhouse” in Quartzsite, Arizona, in 2002 where they would escape the cold in the winters. This gave them plenty of opportunities to enjoy their warm weather hobbies and spend lots of time enjoying the sun. Sharlene loved going to the craft shows and rock shops in Quartzsite. After retirement in 2007 they built and moved into a house on a golf course in Thayne, Wyoming, where they spent their summers golfing, taking their grandkids to the pool, and spending time with their neighbors.
One of life’s greatest joys for Sharlene was her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate her grandchildren. If she was not there for a holiday or birthday, there was always something in the mail for them. Her grandkids fondly remember the tea parties, trips, great cooking, games, walks, crafting and life lessons. Besides all the wonderful things Sharlene loved to do with them both inside and outdoors, she loved to share her love and knowledge of the Lord with them.
She left them with a lasting legacy of her eternal love and Jesus’s love for them all.
Sharlene was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease) in 2020. She knew God only gives people that which they can handle. Anyone who knew her knows just how strong she was. She stayed positive through this time by pursuing her love of history by watching westerns and her trust in everlasting life through the Lord. During this journey she appreciated just how much she was loved and cared about by those around her.  As a true disciple of the Lord, Sharlene shared God’s love and remained steadfast in her faith.
A friend once said, “There was not a person around that could say anything bad about Sharlene.” There could not be a better quote to describe what an amazing and kind person Sharlene was.
Sharlene was preceded in death by her sister Gloria Payne (1970), father Lowell Payne (1990), son Jason Budge (1993), brother Danny Payne (2017), mother Jean Payne Richins (2019).
Sharlene is survived by her husband Allen, brothers Mike Payne and Kelly (Michelle) Payne, four brother-in-laws Jim (Oney), Danny (Jane), Chad (Dianne), and Craig Budge, children Jeremy (Sara) Budge and Stacy (Tony) Saunders, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sharlene had five grandchildren- Amber and Heather Budge, Garrett, Preston and Brady Saunders, who will all dearly miss her.
The family of Sharlene Budge would like to thank everyone who reached out to her through text, as she eventually lost her hearing. The texts brought joy to the very end even though she eventually could not respond. They would like to also thank Allen’s sister in law Jane Budge and her niece Jenny for helping with funeral preparations in Jackson,  Jim and Oney Budge, Rosemary Ackerman and Kindra Baler for hosting virtual services in Quartzsite and Wickenburg, Arizona. They are eternally grateful to Tim Moyer for his blessing and anointing of Sharlene in the last days and presiding over her service.
Allen would like to give a special thank you to his very good friend Floyd Schell for putting up with him on all of their trips to the senior center for meals. It meant a lot to him. He appreciated  his children Jeremy and Stacy, and their spouses Sara and Tony for being there through it all. Sharlene was truly moved by this and there was no way Allen could have gone through this journey without them.
The family would like to thank Sharlene’s many health care givers; Paula Holeman who made it possible for Sharlene to spend a couple of months at the River Bend Ranch with her daughter’s family last fall; Symbi and their nurses, CNAs, and others; private health care givers Dianne Jackson, and Britney Turly; Jackson Hole Hospice and their RNs and CNAs; Doctor Millison for her house calls; and especially Patti Ledwig who is a very special person and will have a special place in heaven. These people all helped give Sharlene a better quality of life and family support after her ALS diagnosis.
Thank you to all of our prayer warriors, friends and family for all of your love and support.
“We tend to think when we are gone we have gone from the land of the living to the land of the dead, but the truth is we have gone from the land of the dying to the land of the living.” Sharlene now walks with God and will be greatly missed.

Marvin Gneiting Schwab - March 19, 1938 - February 14, 2022

Departed: 02/14/2022 (Afton)
Obituary Preview: Marvin Gneiting Schwab was born March 19, 1938 in Afton, Wyoming. He was the third of eight children born to Arthur Clarence Schwab and Erma Pauline Gneiting. The Schwab family was close knit and spent a lot of time together.  Arthur and his father Herbert lived just around the corner from each other, so Marv and Scott (Herbert’s son) grew up more like twin brothers than uncle and nephew. Art purchased a ranch in the Dell, a beautiful location in the south end of Star Valley. Marvin, Scott and his sisters spent many wonderful days working and playing at the ranch. As a young boy he remembered going to Cottonwood Lake and “helping” his father and grandfather. They would bring the logs out of the canyon with large draft horses and float the timber across the lake to the sawmill. Cottonwood Lake was a favorite family spot.
Marvin went to school in Afton and attended Star Valley High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He graduated in 1956 and on January 19, 1957 he married Jeanne Moser, his high school sweetheart. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 23, 1958. Marv and Jeanne both attended Brigham Young University where Marvin received his bachelor’s degree in Geology while working full time to provide for his family. After college Marvin started selling insurance. They lived in Logan, Utah for a few years then moved to Murray, Utah, but every Friday night he would gather his family together and they would travel back to the valley he loved. In 1969, he moved his family back to Star Valley, where he and Jeanne built a home north of Afton, to “get the kids out of the city.” Marvin continued working in Utah during the week, coming home on the weekends and after a few years he came back to the valley full time and worked with his father at Valley Lumber in Afton. He then built and managed Stor Storage for over 30 years.
Marvin and Jeanne enjoyed going on many vacations together. They loved fishing, camping and spending time with their family. Marvin always enjoyed fishing whether it was winter or summer. He loved to be outdoors and fishing was a bonus. Every year Colter Bay was a must and Shoshoni Lake, Green River Lake, Cottonwood Lake and even Alaska were a few of his other favorite places. His family meant everything to him.  He loved supporting and following his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as they participated in church, school, and other activities all over multiple states. He was always there to cheer them on in their plays, concerts, football games, basketball games, graduations or whatever they were doing. He was so proud of all of them but he had an extra special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marvin was diagnosed with colon cancer in the spring of 2021 and he passed away on February 14, 2022. (Valentine’s Day – reuniting him with his eternal companion.)
Marvin is survived by his children; Sherry (Joel) Merritt, Lee (Erika) Schwab, MarJean (Doye) Bryant, Daniel (Kristi) Schwab, Vance (Kenna) Schwab. Siblings; Maureen (Charles) Buckner, LuAnn (Bill) Holbrook, and Kristine (Bill) Tudor, 48 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Erma Schwab, two brothers, Clarence and baby (stillborn), two sisters Karen King and Carma Daughtery, his wife Jeanne, daughter Gloria, and daughter-in-law Terri.

Rayola Ruth Park - October 13, 1943 - February 13, 2022

Departed: 02/13/2022 (Afton)
Obituary Preview: Rayola Ruth Corsi Park passed away quickly and peacefully in her home Sunday February 13, 2022 with Marvin by her side. Rayola was born in Afton, Wyoming October 13, 1943 to Mable Ruth (Bruce) Corsi and Jack O Corsi; and was the first of three children to the Corsi family. In Rayola's first few years of life, her father joined the military to fight in WWII. During this time, Rayola and her mother moved to Smoot Wyoming to Ruth's parents so they could endure the time her father was away at war. They returned to Etna after her father returned from the war, where she spent her youth working on the dairy farm milking, feeding and tending to milk cows.
In 1961 Rayola had a busy year; she not only graduated from Star Valley High School, she married and was sealed to Marvin Howard Park at the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. Rayola and Marvin started their life together living in a small cabin next to Palisades creek, close to where they built their first home. This was where Rayola worked as a waitress and worked her first paying job at the Palisades Inn. Another home they stayed in was up Rainey creek in Swan Valley where Rayola stayed home and shot squirrels, hung them on the fence for Marvin to see after a day's work. After a few years and 5 kids later, Rayola and Marvin raised their children and built their first home on Palisades creek where Marvin was born and raised.
She was also a proponent for her kids to learn how to Ski. Rayola started skiing with Marvin at the Pine Creek Ski area and loved the time on the hill, therefore, she volunteered to help the kids of Swan Valley learn to ski by riding the bus to Targhee ski area so we could all feel what she felt while skiing.
Rayola held various jobs throughout her life, from waitressing to gun assembler to all around smart aleck. However, she was the most determined and successful as a wife and mother to her children. She was so successful with her five children, in 1986 she gave us all a little brother. Rayola enjoyed getting away from the farm life which was all she knew growing up and was introduced to camping, snowmobiling and various other enjoyable events with Marvin which did not include work, therefore, this became the life she enjoyed the most. Rayola loved to go ice fishing on the Palisades reservoir. One day while trying to pull a fish through the small hole, Rayola dropped her glasses into the fishing hole, however, she was fast enough to grab the glasses so she wouldn't lose her eyes. She also loved to go to the hunting camp with Marvin where she helped with the hunters and her mother in-law Fay, cook for everyone. Rayola and Marvin eventually moved back to Etna Wyoming to help on the growing farm Rayola was raised on. She loved being back home and close to her family in Etna.  This is where they finished raising kids, enjoying life then later on, started enjoying grandkids and great grandkids Rayola was never one to shirk hard work; she helped Marvin feed the elk in Alpine Wyoming for 9 years. This was a hard job to feed almost 150 bales of hay per day, but Rayola never complained because she loved to be outdoors and do anything to help Marvin. Rayola always loved to have a green lawn. At her home, up until her last summer, Rayola would work diligently daily, watering and mowing her lawn. She would go through the field to mow around risers so Marvin didn't have a hard time finding them, and enroute would sometimes end up at Jack's shop which is about a mile from her home. Marvin attempted to mow her lawn one time, and she
fired him on the spot for mowing over a tree. She sometimes said it would take her two days to finish mowing, then she would have to start over again. The summer of 2021, Marvin bought her a new lawn mower, and she was so excited (because her old mower was bought in 1993), that she started mowing her lawn and her brother's next-door field. In her spare time, she would contact all family members she could on her I-PAD to visit, stay in contact with, and check up on all of us, sometimes it would be three or four times a day.
Throughout her life Rayola seemed to always overcome any obstacle which came her way. For many years Rayola lived with asthma and then was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Having to deal with these two setbacks, Rayola's tenacity and determination, she never allowed it to control her life, or hold her back from any activity she wanted to accomplish.
Rayola was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and held many positions in the church. Including doing extraction (indexing) work for genealogy.
She is survived by her first sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Marvin; daughter, Lisa (Chet) Sanderson; daughter, Lorie (David) Haderlie; son, Scott (Jackie) Park; son, Joe (Jeri Bonnes) Park; daughter, Misti (Ron) Hornof; son, Kyle (Kayla) Park. 18 grandkids and 21 great grandkids. Her siblings, Jack and Jim Corsi. She was preceded in death by both her parents, Jack O and Ruth Corsi.

Joyce Fern Barrus - April 24, 1925 - February 01, 2022

Departed: 02/01/2022 (Afton)
Obituary Preview: Joyce Fern Brown Barrus returned home, 1 February, 2022 from her home in Fairview, Lincoln Wy.  Born April 24, 1925 in Fairview, WY to James Fredrick Brown Jr. and Frances Elizabeth Pead; nineth of ten children. Married Grant Millward Barrus (1923-2000), son of Albert A. and M. Alice Barrus, June 24, 1943 in the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Salt Lake City, Utah.  Five children were born to their eternal union. Jerald Grant, (Barbara Aullman), Marc Brown (Linda Rich), Kristene (Glade Hatch), Marie (Deb Wolfley), Tracy Allen (Marie Lester). Grant and Joyce leave a heritage of five children, twenty- six grand children, eighty-four great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great-grandchildren.  Joyce loved the safety and teachings of Jesus Christ. She served in many ways to help build God’s Kingdom on earth; including a mission to Birmingham, Alabama at age seventy- eight.  Working to discover her families’ descendants was important; hoping to bless someone to receive gospel covenants. Her love of music has brought enjoyment and good to so very many of her family and the Star Valley community. Mother had over ninety piano students which included two generations. A garden kept mom busy in the summer. Fall brought delicious bottles of jams, fruit, and vegetables to her fruit room shelves; and sharing to brighten someone day.   Twenty-five years were spent in the Grant M Barrus’ Hunting Camp.  Joyce was a gourmet cook using a Monarch Wood Stove/oven.  As the hunters rode into camp, they would smell the delicious biscuits/desserts.   Grandma is well known for her mouth, watering bread, rolls, meals, and homemade root beer.  Grandma would say “I don’t know how to play this game,” and then she would win and smile.   Caring family and friends have helped mother experience her love of travel; England, Hong Kong, and many places in the United States. Mother looked forward to her brother Blaine and sister-in-law Ruth visiting from California for the summers.  Cousin picnics were something to look forward to. Uncle Blaine would bring a stepping stool, help mom into his truck and off they would go to Taco Tuesday or Burger King. So nice to see them together. Joyce lived the motto: “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without;” (only use two squares of toilet paper) Many children and grandchildren enjoy her beautiful hand quilted quilts. Many blocks were from dresses, men’s double knot suits, or left over fabric. Mother leaves a legacy of love and service, and testimony. Siblings: F. Othello (Lera Allred), C. Newell (Elinor Millward), W. Kenneth (Anis Larson), J. Doyle (Pearl Hoopes), Donna (W. Ardell Ames), F. Dean (Esther Mae Orton), E. Rhea  (Lloyd Roberts), A. Keith (Ruth Walton)-living, E.
