Obituary Preview: Charles Lewis Bruder (81), Normal, IL passed away February 7, 2023 at OSF Hospital in Peoria, IL due to complications from chronic pneumonia.
Chuck was born September 24, 1941 to George and Dorothy (Lingen) Bruder. They preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Joan; two sons, Timothy and Joseph (Heather) and one grandson, Jordan Bruder, all in Normal, IL. He is also survived by three brothers: Jim (Barb), Woodstock, GA; Mike (Nancy), Mesa, AZ; Tom (Pat), Cumberland, WI; and three sisters: Judy (Dale) Christensen, Alden, MN; Mary (Steven) Matthies, Tucson, AZ; and Barbara (Chuck) Hughes, Chanhassen, MN, and many nieces and nephews. Chuck and Joan celebrated their 60th anniversary in October and resided in the McLean County area all of those years.
Chuck was a devoted Catholic. He grew up on a farm near Wells, Minnesota, first attended a one-room country school, and later attended both Catholic and public schools. Following high school he entered the US Air Force, was stationed at Rantoul AFB, and believed these were some of the best four years of his life. He had a great love of his country and our veterans.
Chuck worked in the maintenance department of the Bloomington General Electric plant for over 30 years. He shared his mechanical abilities with all the kids and neighbors by repairing their Big Wheels, bikes, cars, mowers, snow blowers and making all necessary repairs around the home. He enjoyed his sons’ Boy Scout adventures, coached baseball, and kept lawn mowers going for their part-time jobs. He and Joan enjoyed traveling to Alaska and Arizona in retirement. Fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada with his father-in-law were special. He was very close to his siblings, and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandson. In recent years he enjoyed watching old westerns and war movies and playing computer games.
As Chuck requested, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation rites will be accorded with private burial at a later date near his in-laws at Mt. Bloom Cemetery in Tiskilwa, IL. Memorials honoring his name may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project, the USO, Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, or the American Lung Association.

Phillip was born July 26, 1962, in Huntsville, Alabama, the son of Leonard and Violet (Cantrell) Gaught. He married Karen Jenkins; they later divorced but remained close friends.
Phillip is survived by his mother, Violet; four siblings, Linda (Gary) Stevens, Prairieville, LA, Donald (Debbie) Gaught, West Peoria, IL, James (Vicki) Gaught, Chattanooga, TN, Peggy Bell, Peoria, IL; several nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; and ex-wife, Karen. He was preceded in death by his father.
Phillip served in the Army National Guard. Phillip drove semi-truck over the road and later drove as a yard jockey. He enjoyed playing guitar and shooting pool. He also enjoyed working. Phillip was a great caregiver to his mother.

(Dragolovich) Knapp. Marilyn graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1951. She married James P. Kelly on August 6, 1955; he preceded her in death on March 16, 1977.
Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Colleen (Frank) Zak, Winfield, IL; two granddaughters, Allison and Amy Zak, Wheaton, IL; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Kelly, Bettendorf; niece, Kim (Rick) Miers, Rock Island; and nephew, Mike (Karma) Kelly, Bettendorf.
Marilyn was especially close to her aunts, Lois Karau and Mildred Dragolovich who preceded her in death. She shared a special bond with cousins, Allen Dragolovich, Diane Dragolovich Ririe, Linda Dragolovich Stuhlsatz, Kathy Dragolovich Nitz and Lois’ children, Dean, Ralph and Gary Karau and Liane Karau O’Keefe. She was also preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother-in-law, Gene Kelly; uncles, Joe, Nick, Louis, George, Elmer and Peter Dragolovich; and aunt, Anne Williams.
Marilyn worked at the Boiler Shop after high school as a key punch operator. She was a member of the Kewanee Greeters and enjoyed meeting the new residents of Kewanee from which she made many life-long friends. She was also a member of the Kewanee Accordion Band and Saint John Paul II Parish. She enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Christy is survived by one son, Stephen (Holly) Swearingen, Kewanee; one daughter, Ashley (Justin) Patterson, Savannah, Georgia; brother, Bill Philhower, Kewanee; five grandchildren, Douglas, Dave, Trevor, Kisely, Kamry; and nieces and nephews, Autumn (Anthony) Rangel, Dylan (Allie) and Colton Philhower. She was preceded in death by her parents; three children in infancy, Bobby, Sara, Stephanie, and a brother, Doug Philhower.
Christy worked at Central and Lyle schools in the cafeterias. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, and watching black and white movies. She also enjoyed having coffee with friends. Christy especially loved spending time and vacationing with her grandchildren.

Roxanne is survived by two daughters, Candi Leszczynski, Normal, IL and Samantha (Provines) Turley, Secor, IL; one granddaughter, Lucille Turley; one grandson, Shawn Turley; a brother, Steven (Brenda) Clark; two nephews, David Provencher, and Jon Provencher; and one niece, Holly Provencher; a sister-in-law, Robin Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David Provencher and a niece, Mindy (Clark) Wenger.
Roxanne worked as a CNA for various nursing homes and organizations; moving around based on need. She was a very hard worker; spending her time working two or three jobs at a time having little time for hobbies. When she did find time for hobbies, she enjoyed reading Agatha Christie novels. Roxanne enjoyed comedy and could be sarcastic.

Winter, 91, a resident of Toulon Healthcare, formerly of Kewanee, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 11:45 p.m. Earleen was born May 25, 1930, in Texarkana, Texas, the daughter of Earl S. Strom and Lottie (Kellar) Strom. She married Eugene A. Winter of West Jersey on October 27, 1949 at the First Baptist Church of Kewanee with Rev. Gordon Vaugh officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Penne Cone’ and Bunne (John) Baum of Kewanee. Two grandchildren, Tye Cone’ (Sarah VanWassenhove) and Jessica Hand of Kewanee and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Hand and Ben Hand, also of Kewanee. Earleen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Nedra Polowy, a brother, Earl (Bud) Strom, and a very special niece, Mary Fox.
Earleen attended Kewanee schools and Black Hawk East College. She was employed as a beautician for 55 years. An avid bowler for 40 years, she served as officer and treasurer for the Women’s Bowling Association, and for 19 years served a treasurer for many different leagues. She bowled in State and National tournaments, with her team taking first place in the state tournament in Decatur in 1986.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church SBC in Kewanee where she served as church clerk, deacon, and sang in the choir.
Earleen loved flowers and planted new flowers, bushes, window boxes every summer to the dismay of her husband who had to mow around everything. Earleen also enjoyed the annual Strom reunion held each summer at Little John Conservation area in Victoria, Ill. She had many cousins in that area, one in particular was Lois Weedman, her 1st cousin. They would set all day long reminiscing of days gone by.
Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, the Rev. Justin Rumley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church. Jo married her high school sweetheart, Jack Verbout on June 26, 1943, at the Kewanee St. Joseph Rectory. They are the parents of five children: John Jr., deceased; daughter-in-law, Melanie Verbout, Normal, Il.; son, Jay (Barbara) Verbout, Mahomet, Il.; daughters, Carol Leininger (Bernie Dunn), Bradford, Il., Judy (Gordon) Connor, Farmington, Il.; son, Jerry (Cindy) Verbout, Fulshear, Tx.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
Jo is survived by: brother, Bob (Barbara) Norton, Annawan, Il.; sister Pat (Sam) Henson, Neponset, Il.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Norton, Cambridge, Il.; sister-in-law, Sue Norton, Neponset, Il.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 77 years; her parents; her son, John; a great grandson, Graeme McDaniel; and three brothers, Ward D., Harry and Clarence.
Jo was a homemaker for the 77 years of marriage. She enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, traveling, and cooking. She attended Neponset Congregational Church for many years and was a member of Woman’s Thursday Club, Daughters of Yolada, Mother’s Club, PTA, and was a den mother. Her Tuesday coffee club with friends met for over fifty years.
Jo especially loved having her family come home and going to family reunions. After Jack’s passing Jo has been comforted by reading the 350 love letters, he sent to her while he was in the Army Air Corps.

Peggy is also survived by four children, Christopher (Samanta) Schmelzer, Davenport, Matthew Schmelzer, Kewanee, Mollie Schmelzer, Bettendorf, Kevin (Cayte) Schmelzer, Des Moines; two grandchildren, Sabrina, Miranda; siblings, Dan (Nancy) Krehbiel, Black River Falls, WI, Pat (Vince) Price, West End, NC, Terry (Marie) Krehbiel, Macomb, Ann (Miles) Jones, Hope Mills, NC; brother-in-law, Randy (Cheryl) Smith, Center Point, IA; sister-in-law, Lilian Krehbiel, Omaha, NE; and eleven nieces and nephews. Peggy was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kewanee. She was an advocate for Freedom House. Peggy enjoyed writing poetry, reading, and attending church. She loved her tulips, daisies and lilacs. Peggy also enjoyed teaching the kids at church. She especially loved spending time with her family.

David W. Price - April 03, 1945 - May 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: David “Dave” William Price, 77, died peacefully on May 12, 2022, with family by his bedside at Unity Point Health-Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL.
He was born in Kewanee, IL on April 3, 1945, the son of George Price and Anne (King/Price) Draves. He was their second child and had four siblings: Sandy Stuckey, Steve Price, Debbie Stabler, and Sue Simaytis.
Dave graduated from Kewanee High School in 1963. Afterward, he went to work at the Kewanee Boiler. He was drafted into the US Navy in 1965 and served on the USS Tripoli.
On June 2, 1967, Dave married Virginia Kay Price after they had been dating for almost two years, and they honeymooned in Hawaii, where Dave was stationed. Dave and Virginia have two children and two grandchildren.
After being honorably discharged in 1969 as a Petty Officer, 3rd Class, Dave went back to work at the Boiler. Shortly thereafter, he started work at John Deere Davenport Works in 1977. He retired in 2007.
Dave enjoyed classic rock, old Western TV series, and golf, and he had a strong affinity for the Doors and James Bond. He was also a Chicago Bears and a Chicago White Sox fan. Dave knew 1960’s music trivia extremely well, even during the final days of his life. Oftentimes, he could be a bit of a perfectionist, and that showed in the meticulously diagonal lines of his front yard. He was also a proud UAW, VFW, and Legion member. Dave particularly enjoyed spending quality time with his twin grandsons, and he was known as “Papa” since they learned to talk.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Price; his children, Michelle (Andrew) DeFillppi and Kylie (Lara Roemer) Price; and his grandchildren, D. Cade Stalides and Holden David Stalides.
Survivors also include his younger sister, Sue (Michael “Spider”) Simaytis, his sister-in-law, Pat (Tom) Weeks, and brothers-in law, Mike (Arlene) Stone, Tom (Lori) Stone, and George Stone.
He was preceded in death by his father George Price, mother Anne (King/Price) Draves, sister Sandy Stuckey, brother-in-law Tim Stone, father-in-law Buck Stone, sister Debbie Stabler, brother Steve Price, and mother-in-law Jane Stone.
A private graveside service will be held for family on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee, IL. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Memorials can be made to St. Jude or the Neponset American Legion Post #875 and be sent to Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home.
Dave’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the health care workers at Unity Point Health-Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL for their excellent care and compassion that they showed Dave during his final hours.

Jan is survived by five children, Sarah (Jimmy) Rodela, Kewanee, Theresa (Shiana) David, Kewanee, Lorie (Jeff) Daniel, Kewanee, Bernard David, Kewanee, Madlyn (Jerry VanDeVelde) David, Kewanee; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Luke) Peed, Kayla, David, Alyssa (Michael) Washburn, Anthony, Sawyer, Emmett; and six great grandchildren, Carter, MaKenna, Ana, Wesley, Evelyn, and another great grandson on the way, Bradyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepdad, Chuck Dumbauld; former husband and special friend, Eddie David; son, Michael David DeKoster; daughter, Julie Ann DeKoster; and grandson, Riley Nanninga.
Jan worked for Harvey’s Beauty Salon and was self-employed as a beautician, retiring after 50 years. During her teenage years she enjoyed swimming and was in professional high dive. She also enjoyed dancing at the Flemish and going to bingo. Jan enjoys spending time outdoors and doing puzzles.

Edmund married Rebecca Ross in June 1974; they later divorced. He married Danna Lydy on December 21, 1991; they later divorced but remained close friends.
Edmund is survived by three sons, Stephen (Kayla) Clong, Geneseo, Matthew (Jill) Clong, Moline, Peter (Wendy) Clong, Michigan; eight grandchildren; one sister, Rosanne (David) Anderson, Kewanee; several nieces and nephews; and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; and a granddaughter.
Edmund worked for Case-IH as a painter. Edmund liked putting together any models he could get his hands on and loved antique cars.

Shirley married Norman Thurwanger on September 9, 1959; they later divorced.
Shirley is survived by two sisters, Virginia (James) Rodell, Rock Island and Kathy Dixon, Arcadia, FL; a few nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Mary Lou McCullough and Sharolyn Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael; daughter, Norma; ex-husband, Norman; one brother, Cecil, Jr.; and four sisters, Donna, Marsha, Linda, and Barbara.
Shirley received her CNA from Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, IL. She worked independently and for area nursing homes. Shirley enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing; especially sewing her kids’ clothes. Shirley also enjoyed working for a caterer part time, where she was able to meet President Reagan. She was a member of the Sewing Club and Cat Club. Shirley attended Salem Lutheran Church, Moline.

Wynne was born September 7, 1960, in Peoria, the daughter of Wayne and Sally (Weigel) Harper. She graduated from Wethersfield High School with the class of 1978. Wynne married William “Porter Bill” Johnson on May 15, 1993, in Kewanee at the former Grace Church of the Nazarene; he preceded her in death in 2013.
Wynne is survived by her three step-daughters, Denise (Greg) Berlin, Summerfield, FL, Heidi (Prioleau) Charleston, SC, Wendy (fiancé, Jay Landsiedel), Edwards, IL; four grandchildren, Joshua (Candis) Gradert, Mallory Bowman, Mason and Ava Goodrum; five great grandchildren, Kaden, Aiden, Trinity, Kailyn; Micah, one brother, Wesley “Wes” (Peg) Harper; one sister, Willa Harper. Also surviving are three nieces and nephews, Amber (Mark) Canfield, Joseph (Lisa) Harper, and Jason (Melissa) Harper; many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; beloved aunts, and several very special cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The world is less colorful place without Wynne, but perhaps the thing those who loved her will miss most is her laugh; never one to seek the spotlight, she’d listen closely to what her friends were saying, and was always the first to catch their humor—if you weren’t listening to the conversation, just hearing Wynne laugh would make you wish you had. She loved playing in her pool league, mastering crossword puzzles, and reading a wide variety of books.
Wynne worked for JC Penny, Sullivan’s and Bryton, Inc. She was a master at computers and an exceptional employee, as she was always cheerful and looking for the positive side of any situation. Her work ethic was well known, as it would take a real storm to keep her from being at work on time, and doing her part as a member of the team.
Her husband often referred to her as “My Flamingo.” She would, in fact, stand on one foot, which entertained her husband and her friends. On her birthday, friends would flood her lawn with the pink birds. Her famous laugh made the annual event even more joyous.
Most of all, Wynne loved spending time with friends, family, and going to her grandchildren’s events.

Shirley is survived by one son, Dean (Tammy) Petty, Kewanee; five grandchildren, Richard Petty, Kewanee, Shawn (Hilarie) Petty, Salt Lake City, Utah, Scott Petty, Kewanee, Heath Petty, Kentucky, Stephanie Petty, Kewanee; nine great grandchildren, Taylor, Hunter, Dizel, Kayleigh, Dakota, Kaedynn, Ethan, Sebastian, Kayana; and one sister-in-law, Lucy Lindsey, Kewanee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Willard D. Lindsey.
Shirley worked for Peterson Health Care as a nurse’s aid at Oakwood Nursing Home and Toulon Healthcare; retiring in 2014. She was an avid hunter, especially squirrels. She liked digging up ginseng. Shirley especially loved teaching all her grandchildren how to hunt and play guitar.

Steve was a production manager for the Quad City Times, after the Quad City Times he was a lead manager for Arconic. He retired in 2019. Steve enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and visiting his sister in Arizona. He loved cats and volunteering at the Henry County Humane Society and at OSF St. Luke's Medical Center. He was a big reader. Steve also enjoyed getting together with his school friends.

Dale worked for the water and street department for the City of Kewanee. After retirement from the city, he worked doing construction for LIUNA, 852. He enjoyed going to auctions and expanding his collection. Dale enjoyed playing the lotteries. He also enjoyed camping and fishing in his younger years. He loved being the candy man for the kids and grandkids. Dale was a very giving guy and would give you the shirt off his back.

Elaine is survived by her husband; a son, Doug (Tammie) of New Braunfels, TX; two daughters, Cheri Elges of Bettendorf, IA and Kim (Todd) Brue of Tomball, TX; a brother, Dwayne (Tamy) Rosenberry, of Bristol, IN; a sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Miller of Hendersonville, NC, and brother-in-law, Bob Bradley, Knoxvlle, IL. Grandchildren are Tim (Kimberly) Dillow, Patrick (Hayden) Dillow, Andrew Elges, Zachary Elges, Daniel (Natalie) Brue, Trevor Brue, Matthew Brue, MaryBeth Brue, Logan (Jenna) Brue. Elaine graduated from Galesburg H.S. and Western Illinois University with a B.S. in Home Economics. She did additional graduate studies at Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University and the University of Northern Colorado. She taught Food Service and Home Economics at Pontiac H.S. for 14 years. Elaine and Frank then moved to Kewanee, and for 14 years operated the Dairy Queen, where they won an award for reaching one million dollars in sales. The Kewanee D.Q. was the third Dairy Queen in Illinois to reach this goal. Elaine was an avid quilter, seamstress, cookie baker, and dog lover (Big Red, Mimi, Twinkie, and Toby).
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schueneman- Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, IL. There will be a visitation also on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am following the visitation with Pastor Jon Vincent, Rev. Mark Graham and Rev. Martin Gutzmer officiating. Burial will be in the Wethersfield Cemetery, Kewanee, IL. Memorials may be made to the Frank and Elaine Dillow Music Scholarship Fund. Write checks to: Illinois Prairie Community Foundation. James served in the United States Air Force. He was an Engineer at the Kewanee Corp for over 20 years. He was a bee keeper for many years and a Master Gardener, lecturing on the importance of beekeeping for garden clubs and the University of IL would call on him for questions regarding his knowledge of bee keeping. James served on the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church in Kewanee, he also taught Sunday School for the Crusaders class for 20 years at First Baptist Church. James was a member of the Kewanee Lions Club where he served as Treasurer for 15 years. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Memorials made be made to the American Cancer Society and left at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home for the family.

Keith served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. John S. McCain. He was a member of the Teamster’s Local 371 and worked as a Truck Driver for Mcneill Asphalt which later became Advanced Asphalt. Keith enjoyed working, junking, fishing and camping, especially in WI. He enjoyed watching Nascar races, particularly Dale Earnhardt, he loved and listened to old country music, and most of all Keith loved watching over his family. Keith was a standout football player for Kewanee High School and was enshrined in the Kewanee High School Hall of Fame.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm. at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 1 pm. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Burial will be a Pleasant View Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
