Karen J. Helminski - June 06, 1965 - February 25, 2024

Departed: 02/25/2024 (Hales Corners)
Obituary Preview: Karen J Helminski, a proud Gemini born June 6, 1965, was peacefully reunited with her father on February 25, 2024. Beloved daughter of James and Judith, sister to Laura (Tom) Ciesielski & Maggie (Don) Doyle, aunt to Stephanie (Brandon) Dodsworth, Elizabeth, Abby, David, Katie & many great nephews.  Karen was raised in Hales Corners, graduating from Whitnall High class of 1983. She went on to attend Milwaukee Business Technical Institute earning certifications that kick started her career. Later in life, she found her home working for Gigaflight where she was part of their family. Karen was unapologetically her authentic self. She was an animal lover, an afghan blanket connoisseur, glass collector and baseball fan. She loved checking out estate sales and antique shops in search of her next big find. She did this all while cruising top down in her blue convertible, blasting either oldies or some dance music. She might even be dancing a bit while
driving because of her love of dance. Like Dad, Karen was a patriot volunteering as a member of the VFW Auxiliary selling brats or poppy’s and always driving in the 4th of July parade.
Karen is survived by the biological family mentioned above and our dear extended “family” including our big sister Nicci, Mary, brothers Bob & Larry and Karen’s best friend from birth Cheri.
Her life will be celebrated in a service on Monday March 25, 2024 at 5:30 pm at the Schramka Funeral Home in Hales Corners followed by a burial this spring at St Martin of Tours in Franklin.
Karen was a fan of the rainbow of colors. Please wear your loudest, brightest outfit to celebrate her life with us.
We will miss Karen dearly, but take comfort in the fact that she is in a better place and finally at peace.

William Lutz - December 02, 1962 - January 20, 2024

Departed: 01/20/2024 (Hales Corners)
Obituary Preview: In Loving Memory of William “Billy” John Lutz December 2nd, 1962 – January 20th, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Billy” John Lutz, a devoted husband and loving father, who was passionate about his family and friends. He departed this world on January 20th, 2024 leaving behind cherished memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.
Born on December 2nd, 1962, in Milwaukee, WI, William “Billy” John Lutz brought joy and warmth to the lives of those around him. His infectious greetings and true genuine personality created a warm environment for anyone he met.  Billy grew up in a family who embraced the Catholic faith and were long term members of Blessed Sacrament where he also attended elementary school.  Billy, his siblings  and his friends could often times be found on the grounds playing their favorite game, “Strike Out.”  He went on to attend Thomas More High School where he was able to show off his true Lutz athleticism on the court and on the field.  However, it was in the game of baseball where he was able to display his natural talent for the game, which led him to play baseball in college at St Mary’s University, San Antonio, TX. After college, Billy continued his love for the game playing in city, county and recreational leagues and finding joy in the simple pleasure of the sport and the people around him.
Billy's greatest joy in life and best accomplishment was his son, William “Little B” (Michelle Abel) Lutz.  His love for his son was so evident in every conversation and Billy was so proud of the man, person and father “Little B” has become.  Billy was also so proud to be a grandfather to Paisley and William “Baby B,” and loved to spend time with Billy, Michelle and his grandchildren.  Over the last 14 years, Billy has also treasured every moment spent with his wife, Jamie Lutz. His love and commitment were evident in the everyday moments with his family.  Billy created a legacy of love, kindness, and a deep sense of familial bonds that will endure for generations.  He is also survived by his devoted brothers and sisters:  Robert (Cara) Lutz, Annie (Ron) Bullock, John (Nicole) Lutz, Jacqueline Lutz, and Mary (Todd) Smolen and many nieces and nephews.  Billy is preceded in death by his parents, William “Senior” & Patricia Lutz and brother, Michael Lutz.
As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Billy for the joy he brought into our lives, the love he shared, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of all who knew him. May his spirit live on in the cherished memories we hold dear.
A celebration of Billy's life will be held on Saturday, January 27th, 2024 at 10AM-1PM at Schramka Funeral Homes, 11030 W Forest Home Ave, Hales Corners, WI 53130. Service to follow at 1 PM.

Lenny worked at Teledyne Wisconsin Motors, and Wisconsin State Fair, until he retired at age 65.  Throughout his working life, he also worked as a bartender from time to time, which he enjoyed. As a young man, Lenny was an avid skier, and was an instructor at Blizzard Ski Club, even traveled to Austria to ski.  He loved to share his enthusiasm for the slopes with anyone interested in learning. Lenny loved to have a huge gathering on his birthday each year.  The menu was always the same - grilled hot dogs, and cake – and whatever else his friends and family would bring to share for the event.  Everyone would meet at his favorite bar and spend the day celebrating. Lenny loved to gather with friends to play cards, whether at a bar, someone’s kitchen table, at a family party, or at a “church smoker”.  He was happy to be the 5th player to get a game of Sheepshead going.
Lenny loved fishing, especially in Rhinelander, but any lake or river with good fishing spots was fair game.  Over the years, friends and family would make the journey to Rhinelander and have many good stories to tell.  He enjoyed fly-in fishing trips in Canada, until his health prevented it.  He appreciated classic cars, went to many car shows over the years.  After retirement, got his own hot rod, a 1948 Chevy, which, with his nephew Joe, he helped to rebuild.  Lenny could be seen and heard cruising around town, visiting family and friends.  Sometimes it turned into a scenic ride on a summer day, it was big fun to show up at Kopp’s in Grandpa’s hot rod and see heads turn.  Lenny remained interested in the Windorff relatives of his former wife, (the late) Betty Jane Ratz.  He kept the family in his heart and enjoyed hearing about their adventures and accomplishments.
Lenny and Linda shared decades of love and adventure together.  They adopted many dogs over the years.  Each dog lived a comfortable life with much love, and had many trips around town to meet new friends, as well as summers in Rhinelander.  All their dogs were from various Humane Societies except Jack, who is still watching out for Linda. Lenny enjoyed being out and about.  Almost everywhere he went, he would run into someone he knew.  He loved visiting with people and have plenty of laughs.  With all the activities he did, he certainly will be missed by the numerous people in his life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the funeral or memorial service. They can also help to notify people who may not have been aware of the person's passing.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family members or close friends of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, as well as any charitable donations or memorials in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Typically, it ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs. Online obituaries often have more flexibility in terms of length and content.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and help readers remember the person.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly popular for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life is celebrated in the way you want.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Humor can be a great way to capture the personality and spirit of the deceased. Just be sure to keep it respectful and tasteful.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

It may be possible to make corrections or edits to an obituary after it's been published, but this depends on the publication or platform. Be sure to check their policies before submitting.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?
