Departed: 07/11/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Allean G. Patterson, age 81 entered the gates of Heaven on July 11, 2022 in Amarillo.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the Claude United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM.  Don Minkley will officiate. Private graveside services were held at the Claude Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Stella Allean Goodin Patterson was born in Armstrong County in the Fairview Community on June 17, 1941 to Shorty and Lucille Goodin.  She attended Claude schools and graduated with the best class ever in 1959.  On June 7, 1963, Allean married her best friend and high school sweetheart, Ronald Dean Patterson.   They would build a life together that would grow to include two beautiful daughters that would continue to last the next forty nine years, four months and 3 days until Ronald was called home in 2012.
Allean could be described as a caregiver.  She had a servant’s heart and a desire to care for her husband and family.   In fact, in her own words, “she lived her life for her husband and girls.”  She had a huge heart and worked sacrificially for her family.  She was a devoted and proud  farmer’s wife. She drove tractors, trucks, helped with the pigs and cows and loved every minute. She was a great cook and just an all-around hard worker.  Later in life when the grandkids arrived, her heart was overjoyed and they became the light of her life.
Allean loved her Lord and Savior and was a huge believer in the power of prayer. That belief helped her overcome breast cancer and she has been a survivor since 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Clyde; her brother Darrell Goodin; and her beloved husband Ronald.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tracy Schott and her husband Clay of Claude, Texas and Kim Keys and her husband Stevan of New Home, Texas; her brother, Gail Goodin and his wife Mert of Claude, Texas; her sister-in-law Janice Goodin of Amarillo, Texas; by her five precious grandchildren, Cole Schott of Boise, Idaho, Cheyann Schott of Amarillo, Texas, Lynzee Keys of Wichita Falls, Texas, Spencer Keys and Colt Keys of New Home, Texas; and by many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Brooke at Enhabit Hospice, Brenda, Elizabeth, and Nora at Comfort Care for how they cared for Allean.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Claude United Methodist Church or the Clause Cemetery Association.

Richard was born to J. Ernest Stroud, Sr. and Nell Hume Stroud on May 13, 1934. Richard and his younger brother, J. Ernest Stroud, Jr., were born in Clovis, New Mexico, where their father owned a welding supply business. In 1941, the family moved to Amarillo, Texas, and welcomed Timothy, Sherelle, and Gaynor over the next few years.
Richard attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he was a member of the Army ROTC Golden Buffalo Battalion, Ordnance Corps.
In the mid-1950s, Richard met his future wife Carol McLean through her parents, family friends Will D. and Virginia McLean. Richard and Carol were married in 1956. Carol attended UC with Richard until shortly before the birth of their first child, Carol Cynthia (Cyndi).
As an aerospace engineer and a soldier for a time, Richard moved his family to many beautiful locations, including Denver, Colorado; Seattle, Washington; Orlando, Florida; and Phoenix, Arizona. Richard’s and Carol’s daughter Kimberly Rae was born in Aberdeen, Maryland, and a few years later, their twin sons, Michael Jeffrey and William Gregory, were born in Boulder, Colorado.
In 1970, the family moved to Phoenix, where Richard and Carol opened an employee recruitment business. Richard opened a record and book store and later went to work for Mason & Hanger at Pantex, where he retired.
From the time he was a young boy, Richard loved the outdoors, a passion that stayed with him his entire life. He enjoyed golfing and boating. But he especially loved the mountains, where he could fish, hike, and bird watch.
Richard also became interested in personal computers as soon as they came on the scene. As PCs became more sophisticated, they provided Richard with the opportunity to design houses and buildings, which his background in structural engineering enabled him to do.
Richard was an avid vegetable gardener. He was known for growing corn, pumpkins, watermelon, tomatoes, peppers, asparagus, and more.
Richard raised his children in the Christian Church and participated in church life. When not working, he spent time with the family in outdoor activities and sports.

Jack Paul Land - June 06, 2015 - July 04, 2022

Departed: 07/04/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Jack Paul Land or as his sister Joyce described him, “the most special kid in the whole world” was very unexpectedly called to Heaven on July 4, 2022.
Jack began his remarkable life on June 6, 2015 in Amarillo.  He was the first born of two children to his parents, Kirk and Josie Land.  He attended City View Elementary School and would have entered the first grade this year.  He loved to play sports and liked basketball and soccer.  One of his favorite things was watching his cousins run track and on occasion he would get to help Popeye count the laps on the mile and if he was lucky he would get to shoot the gun on the last lap.
He had a love for animals and cared for them well. Whether telling his fishes goodnight or goodbye before he left, caring for his constant canine companion Scouty Boy, feeding animals on the farm or spending time riding his horse Dakota along with Joyce and her horse Lily, he had a kind and gentle spirit with animals and humans alike.  Jack loved taking trips in “Big Red” with his dad to the shop to check on cows. He had a servant’s heart even at such an early age.  Jack eagerly stepped into the role of big brother when Joyce was born, and she lovingly called him Jacky.  He wanted to help in any way he could, from helping with the new baby to opening doors for others, to asking “mom do you need help with anything?” He would help pull weeds, trim branches, and would pitch in anywhere and anytime he was allowed.  Jack greeted his parents each day with a “good morning Mom and good morning Dad.” Jack loved everyone and a lot of things, he loved Spiderman, Marvel characters and watching the Texas Tech Red Raiders with his dad.  He loved to ride the combine or tractors with grandpa at his farm but Jack had one thing for certain that he did not love…veggies.  He was not a fan at all!
He was preceded in death by his Grandma, Marilyn Dudenhoeffer and by his DD, Debe Land.
Jack is survived by his parents, Kirk and Josie Land; by his sister Joyce Marie Land; by Grandpa, Mike Dudenhoeffer; by Popeye, Steve Land; by his great grandparents, Arlene Dudenhoeffer, Jerri Gerber and Bill and Helen Land; his uncles, Wesley Land and his wife Sarah, Mark Land and his wife Callie, Trey Dudenhoeffer and his wife Jessica and Braden Dudenhoeffer; his cousins Macklynn, Carly and Leah Land and “Baby Michael” Dudenhoeffer; by his best friend Scout; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins and others that loved and were fortunate enough to know him.
The rosary will be said on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 6:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.  A visitation will follow at 6:30 PM.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church in Panhandle.  The Rev. Josh Light will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Panhandle Cemetery in Panhandle, Texas.

Libby Dell Manning Garcia - October 01, 1982 - June 21, 2022

Departed: 06/21/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Libby Dell Manning Garcia swung open the Gates of Heaven and ran to meet her Maker on June 21, 2022 on Amarillo surrounded by her family.  The family will receive guests on Friday evening, June 24, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Paramount Baptist Church.  Rev. Rick Trafton and Dr. Andrew Hebert will officiate.   Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Libby was born on October 1, 1982 in Amarillo to her parents Tommy and Nancy Graham Manning.  She graduated from Randall High School in 2001 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies with a minor in Social work from West Texas A&M.  During her college years Libby decided she needed a part time job.   She soon found herself working as a bank teller at the downtown location of Amarillo National Bank.  She flourished at ANB and began to build a career with them that would last almost twenty years.  With her dynamic personality, attention to detail and tenacity she quickly worked her way up to Assistant VP/ Customer Service Supervisor and an IRA Specialist.   Often she was called on to train others and to consult on projects and new hires. The family atmosphere and commitment to the community she found working there drove her success.  She eagerly served the community and ANB with all she had. Being a highly motivated and driven individual she served on board of the Downtown Women’s Center, served as a Loaned Executive with The United Way, as well as volunteered her time to CASA, and 24 Hours in the Canyon.
Advocacy is defined as the act of speaking out on the behalf of or in support of someone or something.  Libby was the personification of an advocate, beginning with herself, unfortunately out of necessity.  For quite some time, Libby felt something was not quite right with her health.   She needed someone to “hear” her; yet she had to fight for the testing needed.  Had it not been for her sheer determination and insistence the diagnosis of her illness may have never come. That diagnosis, which would have destroyed many people, empowered Libby and she took it upon herself to empower others.  She was an invited speaker at the Harrington Cancer Center, at women’s clubs, her story appeared in Accent West and she was even featured on the Keep Your Powder Dry podcast.  Libby wanted to spread the importance of self-care, the importance of fighting for treatment and patient advocacy and most importantly being an advocate of your own health and selecting a course of treatment that allowed you to live how you wanted.      Libby knew that by choosing a certain course of treatment her life might be extended, but her question to that was “at what cost?”  Libby lived big, Libby loved big, and she had no intention of slowing down or giving anything less than her everything.  She fiercely and courageously fought her disease. She faced her mortality but always on her own terms.  Perhaps it was her positive and energetic spirit that kept her living life to the fullest; giving, loving and appreciating everyone and everything with the time she was given.   Libby’s energy was inviting and people were drawn to her.  She found herself surrounded by angels that encouraged her and stepped up in extraordinary ways.  This support given to her from her ANB Family, the Betenboughs, the Harrington Cancer Center, her Paramount Baptist Church family, Angel Flights, and many others was overwhelming.  It allowed Libby to continue on exactly as she wanted, on her own terms. The world has lost an incredible force, but heaven has gained, well a new V.P., and a rather outspoken one at that!
Libby was preceded in death by her grandparents, Grover and Ozada Graham; her grandmother Carrol Manning; her cousin David Earp; and her beloved canine companion, Redd.
She is survived by her parents, Tommy and Nancy Manning; her sister Chloe Ozada Evans and her husband Logan of Lubbock; her brother Graham Kirk Manning of Amarillo; her best friend Haley Maness and her husband Brandon and their daughter, Adeline, of Aiken, SC; her boyfriend Floyd Wills of Bushland; her aunts and uncles,  Grover and Anne Graham, James and Mary Earp all of Denton, Jimmy and Charresa Manning, Debbie and Mike Pettitt all of Amarillo, and Lennie “Lulu” and Rusty Statham of Wellington; her devoted pup Hank, the son of Redd; her Amarillo National Bank Family; and many other loving family members and friends too numerous to mention.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all that helped them and Libby throughout this journey.  There are no words adequate for how touched they are by each of you. The family suggests that memorials be made in Libby’s memory to 24 Hours in the Canyon Cancer Survivorship Center, 6600 Killgore Dr #100, Amarillo, TX 79106 or Angel Flight South Central, PO Box 2207, Addison, TX 75001

Gregory Paul Gutierrez - September 11, 1959 - June 06, 2022

Departed: 06/06/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Gregory Paul Gutierrez, age 62 of Amarillo entered the gates of heaven on June 6, 2022. A vigil service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at St. Mary's Cathedral.  The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Cathedral.  Celebrant will be Rev. Ron Matthews.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Greg entered this world on September 11, 1959 in Shreveport, Louisiana, born to his parents Robert Ignacio and Madolyn Humphrey Gutierrez, being one of five children.
He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1978 and fell in love with a beauty from Amarillo High, Kimberly Hugus.  The couple were married on November 21, 1979 in Amarillo at the old St. Mary's Catholic Church. Their love story would continue to include two children and span over the next forty two years.
Greg was a big guy, he had a presence that was undeniable.  When he walked into a room, people noticed.  They were drawn to him not by his size, but by his spirit.  He had a way of making everyone feel accepted and important.  He was empathetic to those that were hurting or lost and it was his mission to minister to them. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and loved bringing people to Christ.  He was an encourager, easy to communicate with and never judgmental.  He understood that people were people with hurts and failures.  He always strived to do his absolute best with what he had in every situation.  Greg was a lover of people and of God and it was his desire to bring the two together whenever he could.
Although Greg was a caring and compassionate man, he also had a bit of a prankster side to him, especially with his closest family and friends. He could be quite the ring tailed tooter!  However, no matter how silly he could get, his love for them far exceeded anything else.  He cherished spending time with family and friends and enjoyed going on family “outings.”  Greg also loved a fine glass of wine and a good cigar.  Before his health and mobility declined one of his favorite activities was golf, he played as much as he could.
Encourager, mentor, servant of God, that is how Greg would want to be remembered and that is how he would want each of us to carry on, always doing the best you could with what you have to make the world a little brighter for those in need.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew Jonathan Gutierrez; a brother-in-law Richard Ornelas; and a sister-in law Sandy Gutierrez.

Obituary Preview: Heaven gained another angel on June 6, 2022, with Louise Ann Quackenbush Wisian’s arrival.
The family will host a reception on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.
Louise was born into this world on November 12, 1951 in Santa Anna, California to her parents Bill and Charlotte Quackenbush.  She graduated from Tascosa High School and from Trinity University in San Antonio with a master’s degree.  Once she returned to Amarillo she attended Amarillo College and earned a degree in nursing.
On June 23 1979 she married the love of her life, Ralph Wisian and the adventures began.   Although she held several degrees, once their daughter Catherine arrived on scene, she devoted herself to caring for her.   Louise faced many challenges although you would not know it as she always displayed kindness, grace and a little bit of humor. She greeted each day with a zeal and joy.
Recently, cruising had become the preferred method of travel.  Ralph and Louise were fortunate to be able to travel extensively in recent years, visiting Alaska, Mexico, The Panama Canal and Bermuda just to name a few destinations.  No matter what her condition, when asked are you ready for the next adventure, her answer was an astounding, ‘YES!”  Louise may have been tiny in stature, but she was big on love.  One of her favorite things to do was accompany Ralph to New Mexico while he participated in the Enchanted Circle Ride, she would walk up and down the town of Red River awaiting his return. Louise was always there for him, his constant companion, greeting him with her smile that could light up the world.
She was an active and vibrant lady until Covid changed the world, no longer could she go on two mile walks around the mall or on adventures.  Louise was a warrior and fighter with a heart of gold.  She loved her friends and family fiercely.
Louise was preceded by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of over forty-two years, Ralph; her daughter Catherine Wisian; her brother, Jack Quackenbush and his wife Tammy; and by her furry companions, Lady Godiva the dog and  kitties, Lady Marmalade and Princess Nala.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in Louise's memory to a charity of your choice.

Her puppies were very special to her and she was never without a four legged companion.  Family, Vicki gave so much of herself to others and seemingly always had more to give to her family.  She was deeply devoted and committed to them.  Her love and devotion that she had for Asa was unsurpassed.  They understood each other and supported one another unconditionally.  The couple married on December 24, 2000 but had been together over 33 years.  Together, they built a life that would be an inspiration to others.  Asa and Vicki were members of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was very involved and led bible study and grief classes.  It was through their faith that they found the courage to battle her disease and the peace needed to endure.  Vicki loved fiercely and fought valiantly.   She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife and friend who made the world a brighter place.  Her presence will be forever missed.

Magan Delane Bivens - September 06, 1986 - May 29, 2022

Departed: 05/29/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Magan DeLane Bivens, 35, of Groom, Texas walked into the loving arms of Jesus on May 29, 2022.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 South Georgia in Amarillo. The Rev. Andy Dietz will officiate.
Magan was born on September 6, 1986 to parents, Mark and Tammy Britten- Bivens. She began her schooling in Groom and later transferred to White Deer, graduating with the Class of 2005. Magan graduated from West Texas A & M University with an RN BSN degree. Her love of nursing and helping others was her dream. It was a dream that afforded her the opportunity to work in different health and hospital facilities across the state of Texas. She had most recently worked at Covenant Health in Plainview, Texas. Magan had a love for animals of all kinds - especially her cat, Sassy. She loved reading, passing time with ink coloring and visiting with good friends and family whether it be by phone, text or in person. Her smile and laughter could light up a room. Her heart was tender, full of kindness, love for family and perhaps a little broken in recent years. She was gifted a Bible from her dad at Christmas in 2020, and in the past few months that gift had brought an entirely new experience into Magan’s life and world, and a new friend and confidante, Becky Dietz. A sincere thank you to Becky for the hours of counseling, praying with Magan and sharing Bible Studies with her. Letters, phone conversations and a recent visit from her Aunt Lynette brought joy and comfort to Magan. Since her mother’s death a rekindled relationship with her Aunt Paula grew into something very special. Hours and hours of phone conversations and texting were almost a daily thing, and brought comfort and a special meaning to both.
Magan is survived by her father, Mark Bivens of Groom - her brother, Cody and his wife Jill of Amarillo - grandmother, Janie Britten of Groom and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. She was greeted at Heaven’s gate by her sweet mom, Tammy Bivens - grandparents, Jack & Billie Bivens - grandfather, Jiggs Britten. Sometimes life can bring a lot of heartache, confusion and emptiness into individual’s lives. It is imperative that we always extend love, compassion and kindness to others. We do not know or understand the battles they are facing and going through. “The song has ended, but the melody lingers on."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary website, or funeral home's website.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral service details and charitable donation information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise, ranging from 100 to 500 words. The goal is to provide a brief summary of the person's life without overwhelming readers with too much information.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or multiple photos of the deceased. This can help to personalize the obituary and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. You may need to provide the written obituary, payment information, and any required documentation.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that their life story is told accurately and in their own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

This depends on the publication or platform where the obituary was published. Some may allow edits or corrections, while others may not. It's best to check with the publisher beforehand.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeframe varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish immediately, while others may take several days or weeks.

Can I request changes to an existing obituary?

If you find errors or inaccuracies in an existing obituary, you can contact the publisher or funeral home to request corrections. Be prepared to provide documentation supporting your requested changes.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, word count, and additional features such as photos or online links. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars.

Can I publish an obituary online for free?

Some online platforms offer free obituary publishing services. However, these may come with limitations on word count, photo uploads, or other features. Be sure to review the terms and conditions before submitting your obituary.

How do I share an online obituary with others?

You can share an online obituary through social media platforms, email, or messaging apps. Many online obituary platforms also provide a unique URL or QR code for easy sharing.

Can I include quotes or poems in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, poems, or lyrics that resonate with the deceased's personality or spirit can add a personal touch to the obituary and make it more meaningful for readers.

What is the purpose of an online guestbook?

An online guestbook allows friends and family to leave condolences, share memories, and pay tribute to the deceased. It serves as a digital memorial where people can express their sympathy and support.

How long are online guestbooks available?

The duration of an online guestbook varies depending on the platform. Some may keep it active for a few months or years, while others may maintain it permanently.

Can I create a memorial website for my loved one?

Yes! Memorial websites are dedicated spaces where you can share stories, photos, videos, and memories of your loved one. They can serve as a lasting tribute and provide comfort to those grieving.

What is the difference between a funeral notice and an obituary?

A funeral notice typically includes details about the funeral service, such as date, time, location, and officiant. An obituary focuses on celebrating the life of the deceased rather than providing logistical information about the funeral.

Can I include charitable donation information in an obituary?

Yes! Including charitable donation information in an obituary allows friends and family to make donations in lieu of flowers or other tributes. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's memory and legacy.

How do I find archived obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or visit local libraries that maintain historical records. Some genealogy websites also offer access to archived obituaries for research purposes.

Can I use an obituary as a template for writing my own eulogy?

Absolutely! An obituary can serve as a useful starting point for crafting a eulogy. You can expand on the information provided in the obituary and add personal anecdotes to create a heartfelt tribute.

What is the significance of publishing an obituary in multiple languages?

Publishing an obituary in multiple languages ensures that all family members and friends, regardless of their linguistic background, can read and understand the tribute to their loved one.
