Daniel spent his 28-plus year teaching and coaching career in St. Louis Park, where he recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his athletic endeavors, teaching, and coaching. Many will remember Daniel as the head high school baseball coach, but he also coached in countless other capacities including Legion baseball, football, girls basketball, gymnastics, and numerous summer leagues. Lenzie L. Hennagir - April 17, 1935 - April 06, 2022

Departed: 04/06/2022 (Perham)
Obituary Preview: Lenzie Lee Hennagir was born on April 17, 1935, in Deer Creek, Minnesota, to parents Leon and Tamson (Chase) Hennagir.  He graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1953 and during his high school years he found his passion in life, baseball.
His love of the game could only be rivaled by the good times he had with teammates Ray Kupfer and Ted Anderson.  His biggest baseball triumphs were striking out 18 batters in one game, playing traveling ball for his U.S. Army Battalion (Fort Eustis, VA) and meeting Joe DiMaggio and the New York Yankees.  Lenzie also truly enjoyed Twins baseball, especially the World Series runs.  A highlight for him was Game 7 of the 1991 World Series, which he attended in person.
Lenzie spent time working as a logger and truck driver for his brother-in-law, Ken Connor, in and around Bemidji, Minnesota.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1957 and spoke fondly of his time on the east coast where he became a proficient mechanic while enjoying the occasional chopper flight.  He rose through Army ranks to specialist grade E4, due to his sharpshooter designation.
He was a general laborer at Armour Meat Packing Plant in South St. Paul for over 20 years and then worked at Unisys Corporation until his retirement in 1997.
Lenzie set aside his love of the game and any potential prospects for the love of his life, Marlys Jane Bellmore of Henning, Minnesota. They married on Nov. 7, 1959, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Henning, Minnesota. They started their life together in Minneapolis, the City of Lakes, near Lake Calhoun.  They then moved to Richfield, Minnesota where they raised their three children, Terri, Tim, and Jeni.
Family time revolved around music, camping vacations back home at lake resorts in Otter Tail County, and weekend visits with extended family.  Lenzie was an avid deer hunter, and it was rare that his hunting parties did not fill their tags. He enjoyed deer hunting with Ken Connor and family, Marv Bellmore and family, and Wayne Newhouse.
He also enjoyed fowl hunting with his brothers-in-law, Ernie Bjorgo and Allen Bellmore. Later in life, and especially in retirement, Lenzie became an outstanding golfer with two holes-in-one to his credit.
Lenzie and Marlys realized their lifetime goal and dream of building a lake home in 1992 and they retired there in 1997.  Their time spent on East Battle Lake was precious to both of them and they enjoyed fishing and swimming together; especially with their children and grandchildren.  It was on East Battle Lake where Lenzie taught his three children how to swim (by throwing them off his shoulders), and how to fish (from baiting the hook to cleaning and fileting the catch).  Marlys taught the kids how to fry them up with egg wash and cracker crumbs.
Later in life, Lenzie helped his wife Marlys through her cancer illness and declining health by caring for her at their lake home.  This was the greatest gift he could give her and their three children.  Their pet dog, Angee, played a special role in helping him through this loss. Lenzie was a man of deep faith, but few words so you knew when he spoke up you should listen.  He was always one to compliment the help he received from others:  “They’re real good neighbors, you just can’t find neighbors like them.”  And, especially, “My family is too good to me.”  He also said, “Marriage isn’t a 50/50 proposition, it’s 100/100.”
He is survived by his three children and their families:  Daughter, Therese J. Leckas, grandson Vasilios (wife Jackie, great granddaughters Evangeline and Naomi, grandson Fotios (Jillian), grandson Gianni (great grandsons Gianni, Vasilios and Nicolas, granddaughter-in-law Alicia Leckas; Son, Timothy (Michele Violet) Hennagir, grandson Seth (fiance Naomi), granddaughter Hollie; Daughter Jenifer Thornton, grandson Cameron (wife Kaitlynn, great grandsons Carson and Odin), and granddaughter Jordyn.  Also survived by special extended family pets:  Illa (known as “my puppy”), Nikko, Blue, Ellie, and Bear.
Lenzie was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Marlys; son-in-law John (Terri) F Leckas; special pet dog, Angee; his parents, four sisters (Janette, Frieda, Tillie, Roselle), and one brother (Archie).  Lenzie was under the care of the Minnesota Masonic Home and Lifespark Hospice at the time of his passing on April 6, 2022, in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Lenzie will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Perham, Minnesota, with visitation at the church at noon, one hour prior to the Mass.  Interment will be at Girard Union Cemetery near East Battle Lake. Joseph W. Hendrickson - January 21, 1954 - April 05, 2022

Departed: 04/05/2022 (Perham)
Obituary Preview: Joseph W. Hendrickson “Dad”, age 68, passed away comfortably in his home on April 5th, 2022.
He was born January 21st, 1954 to Paul and Estelle in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated high school in Moorhead, MN. He later went to Alexandria Technical College where he graduated from their Police Academy Program. He was married several times throughout the years and well, we won't get into all that.
Dad was a wonderful man. It was in his nature to always think of others first. In later years, even his ex-wife's enjoyed being around him. He would inevitably have anyone: be it strangers, friends, or family laughing in minutes.
Dad grew up and often visited Bismarck, ND. He later became a police officer in that very same town; eventually transferring to Moorhead, MN, where he would remain for the longer part of his police career. The most highlighted part of his professional life was spent with his K-9 "Bear" who helped him develop Moorhead Minnesota's first K-9 program. Dad and Bear became an inseparable team and were very successful at both work related events and K-9 competitions. They would go on to place high in both Local, State, and Regional dog trials. He eventually placed 10th in the national dog trials. Dad later did some other work to include being a Chief of Police. He would eventually retire from law enforcement, sort of. He ended up being a school bus driver off and on over the years but had a second career as a code enforcement officer in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
Prior to moving to Colorado, he sold his Victorian home in Ulen, Minnesota. He really loved the house but wanted to be closer to his sons. 10 years later, he bought the house back, where he lived the remainder of his life and the last six months spent with some of his family.
Dad is survived by his four sons: Shawn Hendrickson and Candace Johnson, Christopher Hendrickson, Michael Hendrickson, and his favorite son, Orian, and wife Amanda, Hendrickson. (Ha! Made it longer than all three of your tries combined). He also left five grandchildren: Emily Hendrickson, Orian Hendrickson Jr., Tatum Hendrickson, Kahleel Hendrickson, and Cassius (Cash) Hendrickson.
Dad, you have created a Hendrickson legacy; giving your sons a lot to live up to. You were a great father and an even better best friend. You will live on forever in our hearts. We love you dear ol’ Dad.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service of Perham. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service, Perham, MN (218) 346-5175 www.schoenebergerfh.com

Born on May 1, 1954, in Bertha, MN, Mark came from meager means and was constantly challenged during his childhood. His family home was located in such a way that regardless of where he was traveling, it was uphill. And to make matters worse, he had to travel back uphill to get home. Sustained by only lard sandwiches during his childhood journeys, he somehow found a way to persevere.
Mark met his childhood sweetheart, Candace Kapphahn, in his hometown of Bertha and they married on July 26, 1975. Mark and Candace would go on to create two of the most devilishly handsome and highly intelligent sons the world has ever seen, at least in Mark’s opinion, when they welcomed Jace Michael in 1978, and Sean Adam in 1982. The new family lived in several different areas, before finally landing permanently in Perham.
Mark was an incredible father to his kids, teaching them the value of hard work, integrity, commitment, and above all else, the importance of family. Something that sticks with both of them to this day. He never wavered when it came to showing his kids the right path and was always there to support them, in both success and failure.
An avid sportsman, Mark enjoyed hunting and fishing, never failing to impress with the size of the fish he caught or the size of the fish that he caught while he was alone and “threw back.” He taught his sons to hunt and fish as well and was never happier than when he was on the boat for the afternoon, peacefully drinking beer and waiting for a Walleye to bite with his kids aboard.
A salesperson all his life, one of Mark’s defining characteristics was his people skills. He never met a person that he couldn’t instantly form a connection with and or a topic that he couldn’t speak to, and that was on display at all times. Regardless of where he went or how long it had been since he’d been there, he knew everyone’s name and they remembered him as well. He was a presence with everyone he encountered. Mark often went above and beyond to have a positive impact on other people’s lives, even if he didn’t know them. This is perhaps best displayed by his unwavering support of the Milwaukee’s Best Light brewery, as he single handedly kept them, and the thousands of workers they employed, afloat since their inception. As he often said “They can’t call it the “Best” unless it actually is.”
He had a kind heart and would do anything in his power to make someone else’s day. Later in his life, he would buy bags of suckers to hand out to every child in line when he was bagging groceries at the Central Market grocery store and would seek out people that needed an extra hand when they were shopping just to make things a little easier for them.
Mark lived an incredible life and will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him. He lived deliberately and on his own terms, with deep beliefs that he never strayed from.
He is survived by his sons Jace (Katie), Sean (Kelli), his grandchildren (Jack, Isabelle, Taisley, Lola, and Hawke), brothers and sisters (Dennis, Carol, Doug, Kevin, and Kim), and countless friends that he met in his 67 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Herbert and Violet (Greenwood) Hennagir.
A gathering of friends and family will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham. Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service, Perham, MN (218) 346-5175 www.schoenebergerfh.com The Road Not Taken Robert Frost - 1874-1963 Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

Departed: 01/30/2022 (Perham)
Obituary Preview: Charles Clifford Kirchenwitz was born September 28, 1942, in Perham, MN to Henry and Phyllis (Priest) Kirchenwitz. Charlie passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on January 30, 2022, at home surrounded by family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Charlie was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dent, MN. He went to school until 8th grade at Pleasant Prairie School just west of the home farm. Charlie graduated high school in Perham in 1960. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and was on active duty from 1960 to 1963. During his service he served on the admiral staff of a cruiser and destroyer flotilla during the Cuban Missile Crisis as a Radarman 2nd class. Even while serving in the Navy, he always found a way to be at the home farm for Christmas. He had many stories of adventures hitchhiking back and forth. Charlie was lucky to be able to say he never missed Christmas at the home place in 79 years. After the Navy he returned home and worked at Land O'Lakes in Perham. On December 26, 1964, Charlie married Sandy Lynn Satter at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN. The couple lived in Perham for four years before moving to Dent in 1968. During the late 60s and early 70s Charlie managed a liquor store in Dent. From the late 70s to early 80s he managed a beer distributorship in New York Mills, MN. Over the years he had some short business ventures like a woodshop in Dent and was part owner of Dent Lakes Granite. In the early 90s Charlie started Countryside Tree Service with his brother-in-law Mark Satter. They worked many years together until eventually they each took a part of the business separately. Charlie was trimming trees until he passed away. He also had two long-term artistic careers. Charlie had a band called the Country Ramblers for over 30 years with wife Sandy, his dad Henry, good friends Norb and Carol Benke, and many others. They played many nights a year, and for a time, had a radio show on a Fergus Falls, MN radio station called the Saturday Night Jamboree. He was also a chainsaw carver during most of the years he was trimming trees. He really enjoyed attending carving shows with Sandy in those years. Charlie loved watching his grandchildren play sports or participate in other events. For many years he was a baseball umpire for many different Dent teams. Charlie enjoyed deer hunting with the "old crew" and the new. He very much enjoyed trips to Colorado to elk hunt with a special set of friends. He greatly loved playing cards and games. At the Satter's they played poker and at the Kirchenwitz's they would play whist or smear. The last several years there was a regular Friday night session of Mexican Train. Charlie would say to someone he was beating during the game, "We are just here for the fellowship!" but he only said that while he was winning the game. He loved taking the boat out on Tenter Lake and fishing for sunfish or bass. He also loved just sitting by the fire at the lake. Charlie was a kind person and had a hard time ever saying no to anyone.

Departed: 01/18/2022 (Perham)
Obituary Preview: Dolly Kay (Miller) Dickerson was born March 14, 1939, in the Maplewood Township area, to her parents, Carl and Violet (Bugbee) Miller. She was baptized and confirmed in Fergus Falls, MN, where she also attended high school.
She met Robert “Bob” Dickerson in the neighborhood when they were teenagers. They dated after he returned from the service and later married on August 11, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Their first home was in Fergus Falls where they started their family. From there they moved around MN going from Austin, then with their seven children to Duluth, and then to Dent, MN. In the summer of 1986, they opened their vacuum and carpet cleaning business in Perham, MN and in 1987 moved into Perham. They ran their business together for many years until she retired just a few years ago. After a battle with cancer, she passed away under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice surrounded by family and with her husband of nearly 65 years by her side.
Dolly enjoyed playing cards and games, always ready with a pouch of change. She took pleasure in counting cards and taking your money, but she was a graceful loser, too. She was always ready for a good cup of coffee or an occasional cocktail. She liked camping, talking around the bonfire, and trips to Mexico. She loved get-togethers with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and time with friends. She taught her children and grandchildren how to be frank, have a good time, the spirit of competition, the gifts of humor and sarcasm, to cook and clean, and most of all love, selflessness, and the importance of family. Helen Vomacka - January 08, 1925 - January 14, 2022

Departed: 01/14/2022 (Perham)
Obituary Preview: Helen Richmond Vomacka, age 97, passed away in Perham MN, on January 14, 2022 surrounded by family members. Helen was born on January 8, 1925, in Maysville Oklahoma.
During WWII, she met her late husband, Howard Vomacka, while working for Bell Telephone Company at the naval training base in Norman, OK. Howard needed to pay a phone bill and so a lifelong adventure began. After the war ended, she demonstrated her mettle by boarding a bus in 1946 bound for Montevideo, MN to join her future husband and begin a new life as a Northerner. She was married on October 31,1946. Montevideo was her home for the next 73 years. During this time, the couple owned the Family Laundry, later renamed A & H Dry Cleaners and Launderers. In 1963, they purchased Ekberg’s Fashion Store. She played a supporting role in both businesses and had a knack for fashion that continued throughout her lifetime.
Helen had an adventurous spirit, traveling with family and friends. She was active in Montevideo as a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and as a volunteer for several organizations. She enjoyed cooking and baking (especially pies), bridge and bingo, and teaching her grandchildren to play dominoes. She was a gracious hostess to many over the years.
Helen is survived by her children, Pamela (Roger) Smith, Charles Vomacka (Shari Malacek), and Paul (Julie) Vomacka; seven grandchildren, Sara Candela, Mia Smith, Emily Vomacka, Elizabeth Vomacka, Elise Vomacka, Jordan Menze, Kelsi Vomacka; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard, parents, and son, Stephen.
The family is grateful for the exceptional care she received from staff at Northwinds and Prairie Knoll in Perham and from Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Megan Jo Esser - August 26, 1983 - January 12, 2022

Departed: 01/12/2022 (Perham)
Obituary Preview: Megan Jo (Kremin) Esser, 38, after a three-year battle with leukemia, passed away January 12, 2022 surrounded by the love of her family and friends at her home in Perham, MN.
Megan was born August 26, 1983, at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls, MN. She grew up in Redwood Falls and graduated from Redwood Valley High School in 2002. During her school years she was always on-the-go playing the French horn in band, stopping slap shots as the goalie on the hockey team, playing Hearts with friends, and digging into animal care, crafts, and general mischief with her pals in 4-H. Megan excelled at academics, winning her middle school spelling competition and regularly bringing home A’s. She had a natural affinity for Spanish and traveled to Costa Rica on a school trip in 2001. Despite her penchant for success, and the hard work that came with it, she always had time for her less academically inclined friends and classmates, helping them with homework and always displaying kindness and generosity, a theme which carried throughout her lifetime.
Megan met Sam Esser in the early 2000’s, likely during one of her shifts at Taco Johns. The pair instantly hit it off, sharing their love for the outdoors, collecting beta fish and just generally having a good time. They married on July 7, 2007, in Perham and built a life together in the Detroit Lakes area. She worked as an LPN at The Frazee Care Center from 2004 to 2011 and then Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes for eight years. She loved her job and was a source of compassion and laughter to residents and coworkers alike.
An enthusiastic adventurer, Megan could often be found camping, fishing, hiking, traveling to parks and places unknown or planning her next excursion. When she wasn’t on a trail or boat, she would take adventures through the pages in books and, of course, would pass along the best titles to anyone who may be interested.
She enjoyed speaking her mind and had a joyous and bright disposition. As such, she was often surrounded by a boisterous crew, the type who would sit around a campfire to the wee hours of the morning trying, often unsuccessfully, to avoid a noise complaint. Though occasionally a bit too loud, she was a wonderful neighbor who pulled people into her life and made them her family.
Megan valued family and friends above all else. It was her nature to build deep, meaningful and lasting relationships and take care of her people with a generosity that knew no bounds. She was kind, witty, supportive, and genuine. Her laugh was infections and she often giggled in uncomfortable situations. She was everything you could ask for in a friend.
She is survived by her husband: Sam Esser of Perham; her mother: Jo Kremin of Willmar; her sister: Briana Bellig (Matt Pearson) of Redwood Falls; her brother: Jared (Maggie) Kremin of Redwood Falls; her parents-in-law Susan and Jim Rook; her sister-in-law: Emily (Cailab) Heiderich; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Megan was preceded in death by her father, Roger Kremin.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 15 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham, MN. Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service, Perham, MN (218) 346-5175 www.schoenebergerfh.com
