Sherman Schneider - February 13, 1950 - February 19, 2024

Departed: 02/19/2024 (Mt. Vernon)
Obituary Preview: Sherman Ray Schneider, born on February 13, 1950, brought joy into the lives of all who knew him. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Sherman's journey began in Evansville, Indiana, where he was welcomed into the loving arms of Earl Otto and Betty (Woods) Schneider, alongside his eight siblings. Growing up in Posey County, Sherman embraced the simple joys of life - fishing, hunting, tinkering with cars, and using his inventive spirit to mend whatever needed fixing around the house.
Sherman loved his family and his country. Graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1969, Sherman displayed his commitment to service by enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, serving as a T-38 jet mechanic from 1969 to 1973.
It was during his time in Texas, stationed at Webb Air Force Base, that Sherman's path intertwined with that of Joanne Sullivan. Their love story blossomed, culminating in a beautiful union on August 19, 1972. Together, they embarked on a journey that led them back to Mt. Vernon, Indiana, where Sherman dedicated over 35 years of his life as a technician at General Electric Co. (Sabic), retiring in 2010.
Sherman's greatest joys came from his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. His sons, Evan and Jesse, brought immense pride and happiness into his life. He delighted in sharing his passions with them, whether it was casting lines at the sand pits or nurturing their curiosity for the world around them. The arrival of his grandchildren, Jayden, Makayla, Elaina, and Macyn, added even more love and laughter to Sherman's life. He cherished every moment spent with them, reveling in Jayden's guitar melodies and the heartfelt artwork crafted by his granddaughters.
He knew his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was ushered into His arms on February 19, 2024 with his family surrounding him in love; leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Joanne, his loving sons, Evan and his wife Nikki (McClellan), and Jesse with his wife Ashley (Searl), as well as his beloved grandchildren: Jayden and Elaina (siblings), and Makayla and Macyn (siblings). Sherman's memory will also be cherished by his surviving siblings: Earl (Michael Ann), Steve, Mike (Cindy), Bruce (Elvira), Jody (Rego) Cruse, Judy Morse (Michael Bryant), and Jeff.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (Woods), his father, Earl Otto, and his brother, Gary.
A celebration of Sherman's life will be held at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt Vernon on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 10:30 am, officiated by Pastor Dave Schwambach. Sherman will be laid to rest at Bellefontaine Cemetery, surrounded by the beauty of nature he so deeply appreciated.
Friends and loved ones are invited to the funeral home for visitation on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and from 9:30 am until service time on Monday.
