Dorothy A. Jansen - July 14, 1927 - May 06, 2024

Departed: 05/06/2024 (West Bend)
Obituary Preview: Dorothy A. Jansen (nee Potter), age 96 years, of West Bend was called home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2024, after close care by her loving family.
Dorothy was born July 14, 1927, in West Bend to Clark and Louise Potter (nee Wornadt). She was united in marriage to Earl Jansen in 1946 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend.
Their home, known simply as “The Farm,” was for decades the place where generations of extended family gathered to eat, play, exchange gifts and trade jokes. Dorothy loved hosting these bustling events, and as the family swelled with partners, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dorothy always welcomed everyone with open arms. When she wasn’t asking whether you wanted more ham, her contagious laugh provided the day’s persistent melody.
Music was, indeed, a constant in her life. She enjoyed listening to Lawrence Welk and Josh Groban and especially loved singing with a performance group called the Sweet Violets. At Holy Angels, she served as a song leader.
Later in life Dorothy directed the chorus at the Senior Center, where she also worked as a receptionist, helped plan rummage and bake sales, and even organized a golf league. She participated in card clubs and the Red Hat Society, a community group dedicated to friendship, freedom and fitness. No wonder she was named the Washington County Volunteer Center’s Young at Heart award recipient in 2015.
Dorothy’s youthful enthusiasm for baseball never slumped. She loved talking about her favorite players on the Milwaukee Brewers and repeatedly traveled to Arizona to see them in spring training games. Baseball also took her to Atlanta, Chicago and Boston, where she relished the chance to see the iconic Green Monster at Fenway Park.
If there were a Hall of Fame for making the most of retirement, Dorothy, who spent many years working for Amity Leather Products Company, Gehl Company, Post Printing and the dental office of Dr. Tyberg, would be a first-ballot inductee.
Those Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory include her children, David, Mark (Jane), and Lori Jansen of West Bend; sister, Beverly Hartmann; grandchildren, Stacy (Eric) Beltmann, Jon (Glory) Jansen, Michael Jansen, Kristyn (Mike) Hare, and Rob (Richelle) Jansen; and great-grandchildren, Kael and Keaton Beltmann, Noah, Kate, and Zachary Jansen, Emmett Hare, and Ellie and Henry Jansen. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, Greg Jansen; daughter-in-law, Cathy Jansen; granddaughter, Valerie Jansen; brothers, Wilford (Bernice) Potter and Earl (Ruth) Potter; sisters, Marvel Melhorn and Audrey (Robert) Krueger; brothers-in-law, Ronald Hartmann and Eugene (Joan) Jansen; and sister-in-law, Dolores (Willard) Prost.
The family would like to thank Allay Home & Hospice and the Samaritan Health Center & The Fields of Washington County, including special caregivers Jason and Angelina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Holy Angels Catholic Church (138 N. 8th Ave., West Bend, WI 53095) with Father Howard presiding. The service will be followed by a dinner at the church. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. A Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that the children of Nancy Jean (Savard) Valind announce the passing of their Mom. She was a GREAT Mom to us all and we will carry her with us in our hearts and try our hardest to emulate her to all of you for the rest of our lives.
She was born in Escanaba, Michigan to the late Elma (nee Benette) and Albert Savard on March 25, 1934. She grew up in Blaney Park and Escanaba, Michigan with her only sibling, Jack. She attended high school in Escanaba and Misericordia Nursing School in Milwaukee WI. In Escanaba, she was introduced to her future husband Knight Valind by her best friend Audrey (Valind) Shepeck. Mom married Dad on August 27, 1955 in Escanaba.
Her mother and father came from large families. However, Nancy was one of two children but brought the patience and fortitude of the much more experienced and wise Elma into her marriage with Knight . We can honestly say we NEVER heard her swear, or for that matter, lose her temper. Although her children gave her plenty of reasons to do so. She was truly genteel.
She became a mother in 1956. She worked at St. Michael’s Hospital in Milwaukee and at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital in West Bend. In her later years she also taught nurses aides in connection with Cedar Lake Home, the Samaritan Home and Moraine Park Technical Institute. She was a faithful member of St Francis Cabrini Church.
Nancy was a lifelong dedicated friend to many people, her Misericordia Nursing School Alumni, Dad’s high school graduating class, the friends they gained while at Berryland Veterans Housing (you know who you are Patty and Judy), and the neighbors from Forest Hills Subdivision east of Jackson. She never was at a loss for invitations to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s school concerts, plays, and graduations. She and Knight also enjoyed their many years at The Rushes in Door County twice a year to watch the seasons change. Her legacy lives on in her children: Susan Valind, Jeffrey (Kathy) Valind, Kim (Mark) Kruse, David Valind, and Lori (Scott) Verhunce; grandchildren include: Joseph (Jessica) Valind, Anneliese (Emory) Maloney, Sarah (Eric) Mrozinski, Alison Brown, Sheila (Brian) McLaughlin, Matthew (Ashley) Roemer, Michael (Jennifer) Kruse, Nicholas (Heidi) Valind, Brian (Megan) Roemer, Jay (Trisha) Valind, Kaitlyn (Nicholas) Barczak, Gabriel Valind, Abigail Verhunce, Timothy Valind, Madison Verhunce, Olivia Valind, and Emma Valind; great grandchildren: Isabel, Madelyn, Leah, and Aaron Valind; Lydia (Adam) Suscha; Grace, Caleb, Ava, Sophia McDowell; Madeline and Alyssa Mrozinski; Charlotte Brown; Logan, Landon, Lawson Roemer; Rylee and Lila Valind; Eden and Nora Jo Roemer; Grayson Valind; Nellie Barczak, Baby Barczak and Ian Kruse
She was preceded in death by her husband Knight Valind on December 23, 2011, a great-granddaughter Samantha McDowell and her brother Jack (Jeanne) Sevard.
The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 3 until 4:15 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend. Francis J. “Jerry” Wanty of the Town of Jackson died peacefully at home with family by his side and his caregiver Cabby Chiyoowa from Touching Hearts, on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the age of 94 years. He was born October 30, 1929 in Milwaukee to the late Earl and Catherine (nee Hughes) Wanty.
After graduating from high school, Jerry enlisted into the United States Army. He proudly served during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze campaign stars. Following his discharge, he returned to the Milwaukee area.
On September 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to Beverly A. Bojack at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church. Bev passed into the hands of our Lord, November 27, 2015.
Jerry was an amazing person. Everyone loved him. When his kids were small, he spent a little time in the stock car racing pits, helping his friend Kenny. In 1968 he purchase land on Lake Winneconne where he built a cottage and spent countless summers with the family. Later on, he had a snowmobile and helped form several snowmobile clubs and associations. He belonged to the Germantown Snow Drifters, Jackson Moonlighters, Washington County Snowmobile Association, Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs, and the Antique Snowmobile Club of America. He held many positions in each of these clubs over the years. He was a DNR Snowmobile Safety Instructor for years teaching kids how to drive safely. He moved his family out to Jackson to be near the trails. His interests included restoring antique snowmobiles with his son Kurt and has antiques in the Snowmobile Museum in Eagle River. He got into a wine making club and started to make his own award-winning wine. One of the first wines he made, Wild Black Raspberry, took first place in the State Fair. On Sundays in the summer, he went back to the racetrack. He did some work in the pits for a while but became a fan of the Prunty family and cheered from the stands.
If that wasn't enough, he joined two legion posts, American Legion - Lt Ray Dickop Post 36 in West Bend and Peter Wollner Post 288 in Cedarburg. He was in the Honor Guard and blew the bugle for at least two funerals a week. In 2016 he went on the Honor Flight and cried the whole time. It was so amazing to him.
