Eleanor V. Marino - September 02, 1950 - March 14, 2024

Departed: 03/14/2024 (STATEN ISLAND)
Obituary Preview: In Loving Memory of Eleanor Virginia Marino September 2, 1950 - March 14, 2024
Eleanor Virginia Marino, born in Brooklyn NY, passed away at her home in Staten Island, NY on March 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Eleanor, affectionately known as Ellie, was born on September 2, 1950, to her parents Joseph Pardo, a produce manager at A&P, and Rose Brocco, a homemaker. Ellie, the middle child of three girls, her older sister Virginia “Ginger” and younger sister Jeanne spent much of their early years roller skating and riding bikes outside of their family’s apartment in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn.
In 1964, at the age of 14, Ellie and her family moved to a single-family home not far from their apartment, where Ellie and her two sisters grew up, sharing a bedroom until they got married. Ellie, her parents, and sisters, spent as much time as possible with their extended family including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, cultivating a love of family that would remain with Ellie for the rest of her life. Ellie and her family enjoyed annual summer trips to the country in Lake Hopatcong, NJ, where they relished being outdoors and spending quality time together.
After getting married in 1974, Ellie built and moved into a new home in the Huguenot section of Staten Island, NY where she gave birth to her daughter, Mariella (Ella) in 1982. After getting divorced, Ellie raised Ella as a single parent, working as a paralegal at various law firms throughout the city. Her attention to detail, inquisitive mind, and friendly nature allowed her to succeed in the legal field and earned her much respect from the lawyers she worked with. In 2000, Ellie moved to a single-family home in Marlboro, NJ and rounded out her career at Johnson & Johnson, where she worked until she retired. In 2020, she sold her home in NJ and moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, back in Staten Island, NY.
In her spare time, Ellie enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her family, celebrating the holidays, special events, as well as vacations to Florida, cruising to the Caribbean, and camping trips in the summers. Ellie also loved to bake and was quite accomplished at it. She would often spend time “tweaking” recipes to put her own personal spin on them and would always share the ones she perfected with her family. She also loved to knit and crochet, and make various items for her family. A trait she learned from her loving mother Rose.
Without a doubt though, the birth of Ellie’s only grandchild, Lucia Grace, on December 31, 2021, was the brightest light in her later years. Her love for her granddaughter was immeasurable and reciprocated with Lucia enjoying nothing more than sitting in her grandma’s lap spending time together, whether it was watching the nature shows that Ellie loved so much or a little Bluey or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse that Lucia loves. Ellie’s love for all of her family members and the value and importance she placed on spending quality time with loved ones has left a lasting impression that will keep her memory alive in all our hearts forever.
Ellie is survived by her sister Jeanne and brother-in-law Michael Sollazzo, daughter Ella and husband Jessi D’Ambrosio, granddaughter Lucia, nieces Lisa Pineda, Rosemarie Savino, Christine Franchini, and Gina Peragine, nephew Joseph Sollazzo, grandnieces Camille Pineda and Gianna Peragine, grandnephews James and Evan Sollazzo, Nicholas and Vincent Franchini, Joey and Gino Peragine as well as many, many loving cousins.

What is the purpose of an obituary?

The primary purpose of an obituary is to notify others of a person's death and provide information about their life, achievements, and surviving family members. It also serves as a way to honor and celebrate the person's life, share memories, and provide details about funeral or memorial services.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family members or close friends of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services, charitable donations, or other relevant details.
