Rosa had a green thumb and could make any plant grow.

Rosa was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years John Wesley (Fruit) Davis, two sisters Mamie Lee Fann and Alberta Latimore, two brothers Wilson Rice and Reginald McDowell and one great grandson Kanizia Fuller.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories  and sweet kind spirit three daughters, Karen (Willie) Ray of Clinton, SC, Tina Davis Boyd of Laurens, SC, and Alicia (Kevin) Gibson of Piedmont, SC,; Her sisters Annie Lou (Bobby) Lattimore, Bobbie Jean Hunter of Laurens, SC, and Sylvia Baker of Anderson, SC. her brothers, Raymond Rice of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, James McDowell of Laurens, South Carolina, Jerry McDowell of Laurens, SC; Her grandchildren Ashley (Medgar) Patten, Cornelius (Danni) Boyd, Khyran Davis and two great grandchildren Caiden Boyd and Averie Patten. Mr. Thacker was a graduate of Bell Street High School Class of 1959.  After graduation, he attended the South Carolina Area Trade and was a graduate of the Class of 1962.  Johnnie also was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College in 1982.

At an early age, he attended Little River Zion Baptist Church in Kinards, South Carolina with his late wife, Nancy Thacker.  He later joined the Mt. Olive AME Church in Kinards, South Carolina. On June 18, 2023, he was presented with the Father of Mt. Olive AME Church Award.

Johnnie was a member of the United States Army Reserved for 28 years, where he was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a Master Sergeant..  He also retired from Torrington Company after 25 years, as well as the State of South Carolina after 15 years.  He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 5932 and Member of Lauren’s County Hall of Heroes. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Rose of Bethlehem #443.

Mr. Thacker entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at White Oak Manor in Newberry, South Carolina at the age of eighty-two.

Obituary Preview: Maurice Odell Glenn passed away peacefully in his home on February 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.  “Reese”—also known by many other nicknames, was born on July 21, 1965, to Dorothy and Eugene Glenn Sr. in Whitmire, South Carolina, Maurice’s life was marked by his passion for family, fishing, and his beloved Clemson Tigers.

A true all-around athlete, Maurice pursued his passion for sports from a young age.  He excelled in baseball and basketball during his time at Benedict College and Newberry College, where he not not only showcased his athletic prowess but also forged lifelong friendships and bonds with teammates.

After his collegiate years, Maurice embarked on a successful career in the manufacturing and textile industry, dedicating 27 years of hard work and commitment to his profession.  He was a member of Sims Chapel Baptist Church where he served on the men’s choir and the usher board.

Maurice found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was casting a line while fishing or passionately supporting the Clemson Tigers and Pittsburgh Steelers.  However, above all else, Maurice cherished moments spent with his family, reveling in their love and creating lasting memories together.

Maurice was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Glenn, his father, Eugene Glenn Sr., his brother, Thurmond Glenn, and his nephew, Brent Rice.  He is survived by his wife, Agnes Glenn, his children: Marissa Rodney, Cristy Epps, Bridget Smith, Sammy Smith, and Charles Smith, along with his 10 cherished grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings, Eugene Glenn Jr. (Debra Glenn), LayChoyce Glenn (Nancy Glenn), and Karen Glenn, as well as a host of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and loving cousins—all of whom will continue to carry on Maurice’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family.

His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live in in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Haskell McMorris and Charlie Adams, Jr.

Mr. McMorris entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Newberry Memorial Hospital in Newberry, SC, at the age of forty-nine.

On Saturday, February 03, 2024, at Hospice of Laurens County in Clinton, South Carolina, God walked through His garden and plucked one of His most beautiful flowers when He called our dearly beloved father, grandfather, and brother, Deacon James Cunningham, home to be with Him throughout Eternity at the age of seventy-nine.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Marilyn Taylor Austin was born Marilyn Delores Taylor in Clinton, South Carolina to the late Marion Taylor and Julia Spann Taylor on May 2, 1943.

She was a longtime member of Friendship AME Church in Clinton, South Carolina where she was very active in different areas of the church before choosing to support her daughter's ministry, The Seed of Life Apostolic Ministry. She joined the ministry in 2018 and faithfully served until her illness slowed her down.

Marilyn attended the public schools of Laurens County, South Carolina and was a graduate of Bell Street High School. She furthered her education at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina Majoring in Physical Education.

She was employed as a special education teacher for the Laurens County school system for a number of years. She was later employed  in Spartanburg County with the vocational Rehabilitation System. She ended her career at Whitten Center where she was a speech therapist until she retired due to health issues. Marilyn was also a former member of VFW Post 5932 in Clinton, South Carolina where she was a part of the Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Charlie Reese Austin; two brothers: William O. Taylor and George O. Taylor; and one sister-in-law, Johnnie Mae Boafo.

After a hard-fought battle, Marilyn Taylor Austin answered the Master's Call on Thursday, January 25, 2024, and entered Eternal Rest at the blessed age of eighty in Clinton, South Carolina at the home of her daughter, Angela, with her other children at her side.

She leaves behind to cherish her fond memories three daughters: Adrienne S. Williams of Joanna, SC, Angela S. (Steve, Sr) Coleman of the home, and Andria (Scott) Rennie of Clinton, SC; one son, Avery C. Obituary Preview: On June 28, 1927, Sarah Lou Moon (Sake) was born to the late Martin and Mariah Shell Moon. She was born to parents who had come into their marriage with five children each. Eventually her parents had thirteen more children together and Sarah was the youngest daughter of that set of children.

Born and raised in the Mount Mordecai agrarian community of Owings, South Carolina, Sarah, and her siblings were taught the value of hard work. They worked as farmers to raise cotton, corn, and other subsistence crops.

Sarah was a member of New Durbin Baptist Church in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She continued her Christian journey in Hartford, Connecticut at the Northside Church of Christ.

Sarah Lou Moon was educated in the Laurens County Public Schools. With a desire to further her education, she attended Benedict College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.

As an educator, Sarah worked in the Hartford, Connecticut Schools. She was part of the Hartford National Education Association and was elected as Rawlinson Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Sarah taught elementary students for forty plus years. Her genuine desire to educate and serve her community impacted many students and families.

Sarah enjoyed baking, traveling, reading, and quilting.  As an accomplished quilter, she received the Hartford 20th Anniversary Quilting Award. She also enjoyed serving the community through organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, National Council of Negro Women, the Palmetto Club, and many others.

Sarah entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Magnolia Manor of Greenwood, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.

Sarah leaves to cherish her memories one brother, Jasper Moon of Simpsonville, South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Eunice Pitts Rydings was born on May 13, 1927, to the late Eugene Pitts and Alice Pitts and reared in Mountville, South Carolina. She joined the church at an early age, preparing herself for a good Christian life- continuing the legacy of her great-grandfather, Issac Pitts, who was one of the founders of Piedmont Presbyterian Church during the slavery years.

She attended the Church Elementary School- Piedmont and continued her education at Barber Scotia College in Concord, North Carolina.

Eunice followed her older sisters to New York City during the late forties. There, she became a teacher in the Early Childhood Educational System and furthered her horizons at the Bank Street College of Education. She then advanced her education even further at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.

Having been nurtured toward a Christian Life by the home, the school, and the community, Eunice became a member of the Mt. Morris Presbyterian Church in New York, New York under the Reverend Charles Adair Callendar, who also married her to the late Ralph H. Rydings.

Eunice was a faithful and dedicated servant of God, serving in many capacities of the church. She received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Board of Deacons and Honorary Life Membership from the Presbyterian Women of Mt. Morris Presbyterian Church.

In 1963, she became a lifetime member of the NAACP of New York.

She was also employed as a secretary to Mrs. Shirley Anita Chisolm who was the first black woman to be elected to the United States Senate in 1968. She relocated to her childhood/young adult community in the year 2003, continuing to work in the "Home Church."

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Mrs. Eunice Pitts Rydings answered the Lord's call as she departed this life to her Eternal Rest at the age of ninety-six.
