Geri R. Nease - May 24, 1928 - April 08, 2024

Departed: 04/08/2024 (Reading)
Obituary Preview: Geri Rothermel Nease, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024 with her loving husband by her side. She was the daughter of the late Rev. J.R. and Mrs. Beulah Rothermel. She was born on
May 24, 1928. Geri graduated from Reading High School in 1946 and Lebanon Valley College in 1950 with a B.S. in Music Education. She earned her Master’s Equivalency in 1980 after studying at colleges including Westminster Choir College, Peabody Institute, and West Chester. She sang one summer with the choir at Pottsdam College in New York with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Her first position was in Manheim Central School District where she taught vocal music in 28 one-room schools, traveling to four each day. She continued teaching at Hempfield School District where she organized the first string program and orchestra and taught junior high general music classes. Geri began instrumental music for children in West Hempfield by giving lessons in the back of her car. After several months, she moved to a local church basement and the students walked a block from school. She shifted her love of teaching to teaching music in the elementary classroom. She taught in 5 of the elementary schools in Hempfield at one time or another. Geri retired from teaching in 1993 after 31 years. During these years,
she also taught private piano lessons to many students. Her love of music spread to church music when she was hired to direct the choirs at the former St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Lancaster, which later merged with St. John’s and formed Church of the Apostles in Rohrerstown. There she directed the senior choir of 62, which sang works such as Elijah, The Messiah, Bach cantatas, and Laud to the Nativity. The choir also performed secular programs around the county for various social groups. She also directed the cherub, junior, and youth choirs. The youth choir performed musicals complete with instruments and choreography that they performed at various churches and church conferences around the
state. In 1979, she married Charles Nease. In addition to her husband, Geri is survived by two sons, David Getz and wife Yvonne of Mechanicsburg and Steven Getz of Summit County, Colorado, step- children Cynthia Paxton of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Valerie Wood and husband Clyde of Central, S.C., and Charles Nease III and wife Lori of Georgetown, S.C. She had five grandchildren, Dr. Laura Getz and husband Adam Herneisey, Sara Cellini and husband Tony, Matthew Getz and wife Miranda, Lara Barnes and husband Isaac, and Erica
Secor and husband Peter, and one great granddaughter, Eliza Getz. She is also survived by five step-grandchildren and several step- great-grandchildren. Her only sister, Phyllis Rothermel predeceased
her. After Charlie entered the ministry, Geri joined him where he served
by directing the choirs at Canadochly UCC in York County and St. Thomas UCC in Reading. After his retirement, Charlie served as interim pastor at various churches where she joined the choir. They joined First UCC in Reading where she was a member of the senior choir and the handbell choir. Geri was a member of the worship committee and served as elder. When First UCC closed, they joined
Immanuel UCC in Shillington. Geri sang in the Alumni Chorale of Lebanon Valley College (now the
Voices of the Valley) for 21 years. She loved music and wanted to share that love with others, so she went to retirement homes with her autoharp or guitar and went room to room to sing favorite hymns with the residents. This
blossomed into doing sing-along programs for groups at the homes. After Charlie retired, he joined her along with another couple and they presented Hootenanny programs for residents at Phoebe Berks and Highlands and local churches. For twenty years she and a former student presented piano duet programs which they shared with residents of homes and church meetings in December and May
in Berks and Lancaster Counties. The family held a private interment. Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Geri’s life and her love of family and music on May 18, 2024, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 99 S Waverly St, Shillington, PA. There will be a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church. Music chosen by Geri will be presented by her family at 10:30, flowing into the service at 11 am. David L. Kopicki - July 10, 1956 - December 18, 2023

Departed: 12/18/2023 (Reading)
Obituary Preview: The memory of his laugh has become the most precious sound to us. So uninhibited that you could hear him booming even in pictures. Our fiercely loved dad,
David L. Kopicki, 67, of Reading Pennsylvania, was surrounded by his children Jennifer Bowers, Alicia Kohalmi, David A. Kopicki, Leanna DeLillo, and his two beloved grandsons Rowan DeLillo and Asher Kohalmi, as he passed peacefully in the comfort of his own home just before midnight on December 17, 2023.
Instead of counting his degrees or the cities in which he has lived throughout his life, what we really want you to remember about him is that he was adored by his family and cherished by his friends for his good-humored, spirited, and friendly nature.
His perpetual curiosity led him to explore physics and the creative arts. He became an accomplished, self-taught wood worker, crafting both artistic pieces and building household items. His natural, artistic talent inspired many and often captivated them (sometimes against their will) in his woodshed as he passionately shared the intricacies of his projects for hours. Throughout his life, Dad was a friend to many, and his sincerity, humility, and kindness shone brightly for those around him.
While the world already feels dimmer without his irreplaceable light and laughter in it, we ask that you keep his memory alive by simply helping those in need. In lieu of sending flowers, as he had requested no viewing or funeral services, please consider performing an unsolicited act of kindness in his name. Because, as Dad used to say, “We’re all in this together. Just be a good person.”
