Obituary Preview: Beverly (Hunt) Nielsen, 89, of South Windsor formerly of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Charles R. Nielsen Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Beverly was born on September 9, 1931 in Hartford one of five children of the late William and Mable (Peterson) Hunt. She was raised in West Hartford, attended local schools and was a graduate of Hall High School, Class of 1949. Prior to her retirement, Beverly was employed as Office Manager for General Building Supply. She was a longtime active member of the First Congregational Church of South Windsor, where she shared her love for music by singing in the choir and participated in many church activities. Beverly was also an avid bird watcher and enjoyed the times she and her husband spent at the shore.

She is survived by her three sons, Bruce Nielsen and his spouse Maryann of Broad Brook, Eric Nielsen and his spouse Dawn of Avon and Andrew Nielsen of South Windsor with whom she made her home. Her eight loving and cherished grandchildren Kristen Nielsen and her spouse Dominic Carrano, Megan Nielsen and her spouse Jeffrey Carpenter, Heather Nielsen and her spouse Zoe Portman, Katie Nielsen and her spouse Josh Chagnon, Kelley Nielsen, Nicole Rizzo and her spouse Michael, Nicholas Colarusso and his spouse Kelli, Dominic Colarusso and his significant other, Amanda Richmond, and her four great-grandchildren Ellena and Elliott Carrano, Lennox Carpenter and Nathan Colarusso. Beverly also leaves her sisters-in-law Delores Hunt, Mary Lasbury and Alma Mooney and many nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, Beverly was predeceased by her son Charles R. Nielsen Jr. and her four siblings George Hunt, Marvin Hunt, Warren Hunt and Barbara Christensen. A time of visitation for family and friends will be at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, in South Windsor on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 4-5 pm with a memorial service at 5:00 pm. Jane Ann (Cooke) Helbig - June 28, 1947 - March 27, 2021

Obituary Preview: Jane Ann (Cooke) Helbig, 73, of South Windsor, beloved wife of Robert B. Helbig died peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Manchester Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

Jane was born in Queens, NY, daughter to the late Mary (Byrnes) Cooke. She grew up in Brooklyn and was a graduate of St. Michaels High School. Jane met her husband Robert as young children growing up across the street from one another in Brooklyn. Their friendship turned into a love story that would last over 52 years beginning on January 11, 1969. Jane and Robert followed work out to Michigan, Indiana and eventually here to Connecticut. They settled in South Windsor in 1970. Jane worked as an administrative assistant for various law firms around the greater Hartford area and ended her career at Cigna.

Jane was a woman of great faith and a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. She volunteered at the church with collection counting and in various other ways throughout the years. When her children were young, she volunteered and served as the secretary of the Eli Terry PTO and with the South Windsor Ambulance Corp. At the beginning of her retirement, she volunteered with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Jane loved people, she made friends with anyone she encountered. She will be remembered for her outgoing, helpful, and loving personality. She enjoyed shopping, music, Broadway shows, singing, dancing, helping others, spending time with her Grand puppies, decorating her home for every season and holiday and being with her family.

Along with her husband Robert B. Helbig of South Windsor she leaves her children, Michael R. Helbig and his wife Stacey of Ellington, and Lori E. LaJoie and her husband Brian of Putnam; and her granddaughter, Mackenzie L. Helbig of Ellington. She was predeceased by her Aunt Anna Byrnes, (Nanny-who helped raise her) sister-in-law, Florence Helbig, brother-in-law, Edwin Helbig and her well-loved Bassett Hound Quincy.

Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, 9 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Jane loved flowers. Dr. Richard Raymond Teller - February 23, 1933 - March 26, 2021

Obituary Preview: Dr. Richard Raymond Teller, of West Palm Beach, Florida and Niantic, Connecticut passed away on March 26, 2021 at the age of 88. Richard was born on February 23, 1933 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Rose Teller (Schoeck) and Charles Teller. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Western Connecticut State College in 1955, and later pursued both a masters as well as doctoral degree from the University of Connecticut (1963), and Fordham University (1974) respectively. As a lifelong teacher, Richard held a variety of roles in education, but spent the final twenty years of his career as the Superintendent of Schools in East Windsor, Connecticut, until his retirement in 1993. In addition to education, Richard was also a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Chemical Corps. in Baumholder, Germany.

Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who had many interests, but a specific passion for sports. An athlete himself, his natural leadership abilities and fierce competitive drive made him an integral part of numerous teams throughout his life, but of note were his contributions on the court or field for the basketball and baseball teams for Crosby High School and Western Connecticut State University. In later years, he became a member of the Black Point Summer Bocci League and West Palm Beach Shuffleboard League, even serving several seasons as the program Chairman. Richard’s passion for sports extended beyond his role an athlete as he was also an avid fan, particularly, for his beloved Red Sox and UCONN Huskies. When not watching sports, some other interests included woodworking, reading, playing solitaire, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his fur buddies, especially Cooper the Cavapoo. Richard took a keen interest in the lives of those around him but particularly his children and grandchildren. He could often be found cheering them on at their sporting events and was always beaming with pride as he witnessed one of their many milestones or accomplishments over the years, from weddings, to promotions, to graduations, and more. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him or whose lives he had an opportunity to touch.

Richard is survived by his wife of sixty years, Barbara Teller (Synnott), his children, Patti Nelson and her husband Jeff of Broad Brook, Connecticut, Brian Teller of Larchmont, New York, Barbara Koenig and her husband Jeff of Brookhaven, Georgia and Niantic, Connecticut, and Rick Teller and his wife Fanny of Miami, Florida. In addition, his seven grandchildren, Meagan Burke (Nelson) and her husband Ryan of Charlestown, Massachusetts, Lindsey Nelson and Rob Pysz of Broad Brook and Seymour, Connecticut, Sarah Koenig and her fiancé Ethan Levy of Jersey City, New Jersey, Allie Koenig of Brookline, MA, Matt Koenig of Buckhead, Georgia, Lauren Teller and Christian Parlade and Brent Teller of Miami, Florida. Richard was predeceased by his parents Rose and Charles Teller of Watertown, Connecticut and brother Kenneth Teller of Miami, Florida.
