Brigham Young University was a big part of Ron’s life. He met his wife Nancy there and graduated in 1963 with a degree in Youth Leadership. He worked for the Boy Scouts of America for many years, earning the Silver Beaver award. Scouting was important in Ron’s life and he was a positive influence in the lives of many young men.

He served in the Atlantic States Mission as a young man, and then with his wife, served in the California San Diego Mission, Philippines Angeles Mission, Canada Toronto East Mission, and Texas Houston Mission. Gayle Lamont Sharp - January 16, 1933 - March 10, 2021

Departed: 03/10/2021 (Sandy)
Obituary Preview: Gayle Sharp was born on January 16, 1961 to Earl and Edith Sharp of Rexburg, Idaho (the farming town), shuffled off this mortal coil at the age of 88, from natural causes.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and married Sally Shaw in January 1961. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Gayle accomplished many things during his lifetime. He was a member of the United States Army, where he served in Germany during the great tensions of the Cold War. Utilizing the skill-set taught to him, he served as an accountant for the State of Utah, spending over 20 years in that role.
His frequent, quiet demeanor would sometimes be mistaken for being introverted or antisocial however, his intelligence, coupled with his quick wit and sense of dry humor would demonstrate a calculating observational awareness, rendering the assumption quite inaccurate.
Gayle was quick to show his extroversion by engaging in one of his favorite activities, using those powers of data, gathering against many unsuspecting family members. Whether it was “dad jokes”, Jeopardy trivia, sports statistics, books, politics, current events, or the alleged proving of how BYU was indeed a better college than the U of U, Gayle never missed a chance to debate (or deconstruct) any topics brought up.
Gayle loved being a grandfather. He had a special place in his heart for every single grandkid, each of them having their own unique relationship with him. Having predominately grandsons, he had a special affinity for his granddaughters. Regardless of boy or girl, there was one thing you could absolutely count on-grandpa was always ready to do battle with those kids.
Armed with new, crisp twenty dollar bills, the hoard of kids didn’t stand a chance. You wouldn’t believe he spent most of his life crunching numbers and arguing about financial conservatism from how fast he could produce a twenty dollar bill. Help mow the lawn? $20. Cut his hair? $20. Drive him to the store to get a part for something he was fixing for you? $20. It didn’t matter the chore or the amount of effort (or lack of effort) the grandkids put in, he always had a crisp $20 bill to show how appreciative and how much he loved them all.
The world is far better because of his existence yet, feels much more empty from his departure.
Gayle is survived by his loving partner and spouse, Sally; daughters, Debra, Tara, Karen, Lisa, and Marilyn; grandchildren: LaTisha (Jeff), Marissa (Angel), Daniel (Kristy), Samuel, Kathleen, Malachi, and Aubrianna; great- grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Brian Keith Bennett - September 14, 1965 - January 08, 2021

Departed: 01/08/2021 (Sandy)
Obituary Preview: Brian Keith Bennett (55) passed away on January 8, 2021 due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
Brian was born in Fullerton, California on September 14, 1965. He graduated from school and continued on to receive a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Utah. In 1997, he married Angela Marie Martinsen and together they had two loving children, Hannah (22) and David (18), who remain devoted to helping make the world a better place because of who their father was. Over the last decade of his life, Brian was a Division Chief of the Life Sciences Division at Dugway Proving Ground where he inspired and was inspired by his colleagues each and every day.
Brian was a chemist by day and a jazz pianist by night and spent many evenings tickling those ivories with the fantastic musicians of the Dee Dee Darby Duffin Quintet. He enjoyed entertaining his friends with tokens of his famous freshly baked bread and intelligent conversation. His voice retained a timbre of genuine interest when he spoke to anyone; you always knew he cared. Brian’s self-described greatest achievement in his lifetime was his family. His son inherited his musical prowess and his daughter was gifted with his eloquent charm. He often referred to Angie as “his best friend” and was always able to fix anything she broke when he was away on business. Fun Fact: Brian’s laugh was not subject to simple physics and is still travelling the boundaries of space and time to this day.
Brian is survived by his doting wife Angie and his adoring children Hannah and David as well as his brother Gregg Bennett and his sister Missy Heinz and her husband Doug. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Patricia Bennett; his mother and father in law, Louis and Patricia Bennett.
Flowers and small gifts may be sent to his family’s residence at 444 Country Club, Stansbury Park, Utah 84074. There will be no memorial service. Instead, his family will heed his wish to have “a big (explicative) party” to honor his legacy to be announced at a later date in the coming months. The Bennett Family wishes to thank Huntsman Cancer Institute and the University of Utah Hospital for their support as well as Salt Lake Valley Mortuary for their thoughtful care.
The battle was short, but the final outcome remains no less painful or confusing to process than a years-long war. Brian was someone you didn’t forget; an irreplaceable man whose authenticity was his most prized quality. All who had the privilege of meeting him will miss him dearly.

Roy Rojilio Cazares - March 24, 1950 - December 21, 2020

Departed: 12/21/2020 (Sandy)
Obituary Preview: Reverend Roy R. Cazares, at the age of 70, transitioned from our midst into the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ peacefully on the morning of December 21, 2020. He was in his home in Salt Lake City.
Pastor Roy was born to Alberto and Teresa Cazares on March 24, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas. He met and married the love of his life Rebecca Vigil while attending Latin American Bible College where they both graduated in 1970. They began their life of ministry together and started their first pastorate in Colorado. The two served in several congregations in both Colorado and Idaho. In 1985, they moved to Salt Lake City where he began his ministry with Centro de Vida Cristiana. For 35 years, Pastor Roy poured out love and compassion to everyone around him.
Being part of so many lives meant he was part of many major events in the lives of congregants and their families. Pastor Roy also led prison and homeless ministries, and served as a Salt Lake police chaplain. He mentored countless ministers and eventually sent them out to pastor their own congregations. Pastor loved to study the word of God and considered it an honor to preach every Sunday. One of his many gifts included playing the guitar, so if he wasn’t preaching he was worshiping through his gift of music.
Pastor Roy’s primary commitment was to his family. Making the most of every opportunity, he and Sister Becky (Papo and Nana) enjoyed having their house filled with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether it was eating a meal, playing games or playing the guitar, his humor would shine through the countless number of dad jokes.
Pastor Roy is survived by his beautiful wife Rebecca (Sister Becky); his two daughters, Regina Cazares and Reba Archibeque (husband Pat), his grandchildren, Adrian Archibeque (wife Dineca), Cassidy Archibeque (boyfriend Austin), Sonny Archibeque (wife Gabby), Roman Cazares, Roy Cruz Cazares, and three great-granddaughters, Ava, Kaliyah, and Aleia. He is also survived by his sister Rosemary Cazares-Woolenwebber (husband Wes). Reverend Roy Rojilio Cazares - March 24, 1950 - December 21, 2020

Departed: 12/21/2020 (Sandy)
Obituary Preview: PLEASE CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE RECORDED FUNERAL SERVICES FROM MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2021: https://my.gather.app/remember/roy-cazares
Reverend Roy R.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Teresa Cazares and his brother Alberto Cazares Jr. The Viewing of Reverend Roy R. Cazares is scheduled for Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Centro de Vida Cristiana from 1pm to 6pm. Masks and physical distancing rules will be upheld. Services, to be viewed via live-streaming, will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the following link: https://my.gather.app/remember/roy-cazares

Verlin Noble Ellard - June 29, 1937 - November 29, 2020

Departed: 11/29/2020 (Sandy)
Obituary Preview: Verlin Noble Ellard, age 83, passed away on November 29, 2020. He was born June 29, 1937 in Texahoma, Oklahoma, the second son of three children of Ralph and Ver Ellard. He married his high school sweetheart, Loretta, on July 27, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico.
Verlin served in the Army from 1958 to 1960 in Germany and afterwards he was happy to join his wife in Salt Lake City, Utah. They settled here in Salt Lake City, raised 3 children, Jeffrey, Rodney, and Stephanie. Verlin served as a deacon at several Southern Baptist Churches through the years. He has been a member of Canyons Church in Salt Lake City since the early 1980s.
Verlin was a machinist in the automotive industry. Verlin owned and operated Wolverine machine for 40 years. Going to work was never a chore for Verlin, it was his ‘go to’ place. He worked hard and played hard.
Verlin loved to take road trips and motorcycle in the desert area south of the Salt Lake City area in his “younger decades”. He also enjoyed boating, waterskiing at nearby lakes, and sailing in a Styrofoam sailboat which is still in his collection.
As a young teenager, Verlin obtained his private pilot license by “borrowing” his brother’s “borrowed” airplane to practice take off and landings. He shared the love of flying with his brother Denton. His best friend in childhood was his sister Lois and while through most of their adult life they weren’t able to spend much time together, they have made up for it in recent years with many visits and nearly daily calls.
Verlin enjoyed puttering in his yard – growing okra and tomatoes. Whenever his tomatoes failed to produce – Marti Crow would share her cherry tomatoes with him. Verlin is very well known for being a Ford guy. When he got his current car, a Dodge, friends asked why he did not get a Ford, his response was, “Loretta wanted a blue car.”
One of Verlin’s passions was firearms, but more importantly he was fascinated with the history of them. He spent nearly two days in the Cody museum looking at each and everyone of them on a trip in 1991. He enjoyed going to local gun shows to talk to people about them also.
Verlin is remembered by friends and family as a kind, gentle and generous soul. He always asked how you were doing and was always encouraging. Even the littlest of great nieces remembers his kindness during a short visit.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta, children Jeffrey Ellard, Rodney Ellard, and Stephanie (Preston) Lockwood, sister Lois Ellard, sister in law Ora Marie Hanes, and Nieces, Nephews, and their families. Verlin is proceeded in death by his parents and his brother Denton Ellard. Interment will take place in the Utah Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery, Bluffdale, Utah.
