Lexi was born to Ric and Lisa Beedy on November 11, 1993, in Hays, Kansas. She moved to Salina in December of 2002 to be cherished and raised by her grandparents, Leon and Theresa Beedy, after her mother succumbed to her own battle with breast cancer. She attended elementary schools in Hays and Salina and graduated from Salina Central High School. Lexi enjoyed dancing with Peggy Simms School of Dance troupe during her school years and playing on her high school tennis team before heading off to college. She was a Gamma Phi Beta sorority member and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Kansas. Lexi had a special affection for young children and enjoyed providing childcare in her spare time while attending school. She also had a keen interest in following lifestyle, fashion, and cosmetology blogs. Her beautiful home and stylish appearance reflected her acquired talents in all of these disciplines. Lexi had an affinity for organization and simplistic order which was reflected in all of her spaces. Her beautiful big smile brightened any room she entered, and she demonstrated her values of kindness and empathy for others in excess.
Lexi had the good fortune to share her life with her fiancé, Nick, the past four years in Overland Park, Kansas. She embraced Nick’s love for adventure, as he took her beyond the Kansas borders, exploring 32 states together. William M. Cole - November 27, 1926 - April 05, 2022

Departed: 04/05/2022 (Salina)
Obituary Preview: William M. Cole, age 95, died April 5, 2022 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS.  Mr. Cole was born November 27, 1926 in Barnard, MO and had been a Salina resident since 1932.  Bill had been Chairman of the Board and President of Planters State Bank and Trust Company.  He was a Past Presidents of the Coronado Council of Boy Scouts of America, Salina Downtown Lions Club, Salina Municipal Band, Credit Bureau of Salina, and Salina Civic Music Association.
Bill was an Air Force Veteran of World War II.  He was a graduate of the University of Kansas, University of Wisconsin, and University of Oklahoma’s School of Banking.  He was a member of the Salina Masonic Lodge, a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, York Rite, Red Cross of Constantine and Royal Order of Jesters, and was a Past Potentate of Isis Shrine Temple.
When Bill wasn’t working, he was fishing.  When he wasn’t fishing, he was puttering around the yard in one of his infamous jumpsuits, probably puffing on his pipe.  If you were lucky, you enjoyed one of his amazing trumpet solos.  As a child, “Billy” wanted to become a professional trumpet player, but his father convinced him there was no money in that endeavor, so he should go into banking.  He did, but he never gave up his love of music, playing in different bands or as a guest player.  Well into his 90s, he continued wowing his audience at Bethany Home with his musical talent.
Bill was also one of the most frugal men in town.  Growing up as a child of the depression, nothing went to waste.  He once accompanied his beloved wife, Evelyn, on a regional tour of six baseball fields, not because he liked or even enjoyed baseball, but because he could get her a better deal on the tickets if he went with her.  The man also liked to duct tape everything, including his shoes.  One area he didn’t skimp on was his love for his family.  Like the Velveteen Rabbit, he gave love and was well loved in return.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn A. (Knapp) Cole, and two infant sons.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Cole (Cheryl), of Salina, daughters Barbara Nitz (Rodney) of Lawrence, and Deborah Richter (Douglas) of Assaria, seven grandchildren (Will Cole, Jeff Cole, Benton Bates, Noah Rodenbeek, Cole Rodenbeek, Alexandria Keith, and Caitlin Sidener), and fourteen great grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Street, on Monday, April 18th at 10:00 a.m.  Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.
Memorials may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2100 S 9th St G, Salina, KS 67401.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online, or in a funeral home's website to inform friends, family, and acquaintances of the deceased's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing, provide details about their life, and offer an opportunity for friends and family to pay tribute. They also help to notify people who may not have been aware of the death and allow them to attend the funeral or send condolences.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to fill out.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral service, memorial donations, or other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or memorial websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or multiple photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and help readers connect with the deceased.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and is often longer than a death notice.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process. They may have specific guidelines or templates for submitting obituaries. You can also check their website for online submission forms or email addresses.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming more common for people to write their own obituaries while they're still alive. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told accurately. However, it's essential to discuss this with your family and make sure they're comfortable with the idea.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication, word count, and any additional features like photos or special layouts. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $1,000 or more for a traditional newspaper publication.

Can I publish an obituary online for free?

Yes, there are several online platforms that allow you to publish an obituary for free or at a low cost. These may include memorial websites, social media groups, or online obituary databases.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary can vary depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. For traditional newspapers, it may take 1-5 business days for publication. Online platforms often allow for immediate publication.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

It may be possible to make minor corrections to an obituary after publication, but significant changes might not be allowed. Check with the publication or online platform for their policies on editing published obituaries.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer to keep the obituary private or only share it with close family and friends, consider publishing it on a private memorial website or social media group instead of a public platform.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humor or personal anecdotes can help capture the personality and spirit of the deceased.

Should I include charitable donations in lieu of flowers?

Yes, many families choose to suggest charitable donations in lieu of flowers as a way to honor their loved one's memory and support a cause that was important to them.

Can I publish an obituary in multiple languages?

If you need to reach a diverse audience or want to honor the deceased's cultural heritage, consider publishing the obituary in multiple languages. Some online platforms offer translation services or support multilingual publishing.

How do I find old obituaries?
