Richard E. LaFollette - May 14, 1941 - February 18, 2021

Departed: 02/18/2021 (Williamsfield)
Obituary Preview: WILLIAMSFIELD – Richard “Diesel Dick” LaFollette passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 18, 2021.
Richard led quite an impressive life with lots of fun adventures from start to finish. When he was 18, he ran away to get married with no money and no clue how to get out of the state. He raced cars and motorcycles on race tracks and country roads. He was a fantastic driver and all-around great operator of any machine. His grandson, Ben didn’t inherit that skill, it’s a story involving Grandpa’s snowmobile and a birdbath. One of the things he was most proud of was being an Operating Engineer for Local 649, their “Blademan”, working on many projects including the Peoria Civic Center. When not watching baseball, football, Dr. Phil or NASCAR (he loved Richard Petty), you could find him driving around his beloved Billtown, smiling and waving and maybe causing a little trouble along the way. Every now and then you could catch him at the Par-A-Dice Casino playing the poker machines and having some crab legs.
He was very “into” rules and would sometimes let people know when they weren’t following them. So much so that at one point, he managed to get four meals for four dollars at Steak n Shake (if only they had known how to word their board correctly which was changed after he left the drive-thru!) Although he seemed tough, he would cry at a sad story or just because he felt things so deeply.
We are sure that everyone in town can thank Dick for some type of lesson or experience and also for all the golf balls on the roof of the school.
Richard Edwin LaFollette was born in rural Knox County on May 14, 1941, the son of Clarence and Hazel (Plum) LaFollette. He married Florann Johnson and Janet Crouch and later divorced. Survivors include his girlfriend and companion, Sue Damitz of Williamsfield, Chad (Cassie) Bell of Pekin, a daughter, Denise (Keith) Fishel of Williamsfield, grandchildren, Lacy (Derick) Dykeman of Williamsfield and Benjamin Fishel of Peoria and great grandchildren, Oliver “Bubba” Dykeman and Morton Dykeman. He was preceded in death by Billy Damitz, his parents and his brothers, William C. and Carl LaFollette.
Private graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 23 at Williamsfield Cemetery. Those attending are required to comply with COVID regulations and wear a mask for the safety of all those attending. A celebration befitting of everything that Richard deserves in a Celebration of Life will be held at later date. Richard loved sitting at the park and would love the idea of memorials being directed to the Williamsfield Parks Association. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.

Terry "Tbone" Farquer - October 29, 1949 - January 18, 2021

Departed: 01/18/2021 (Williamsfield)
Obituary Preview: Terry “Tbone” Farquer died of COVID-19 on January 18, 2021. He was a storyteller, a writer, and a good friend to all (well, maybe most).
He was born Terry Fred Farquer to Evelyn and Lovette Farquer, Dahinda, Illinois, on October 29, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sharon, and his brother-in-law Sam Fox. He married high school sweetheart Sharon Cooley at the Dahinda United Methodist Church on August 3, 1968. Together, they survived 52 years of blissful marriage, for which Sharon deserves a medal of honor. Sharon survives. Together they had 2 boys, Gene (Stephanie) of Metamora and Tim (Nadine) of Williamsfield. Tbone was a proud grandfather to Benjamin, Owen, Mackenzie, Olivia, and Cade.
He was a fourth generation Dahindian, growing up on the family homestead in the land of the smiling bullfrog. He loved to tell of his lineage to the great Fukawee Indian tribe. He was a 1967 graduate of Williamsfield High School, excelling in baseball and basketball.
He attended WIU, earning his Bachelor’s in Education in May of 1971. While at Western he participated in baseball his freshman year and played 2 years of basketball for the Leatherneck squad, alongside fellow Williamsfield grad Bob Anderson and Princeville great John Tanney. He liked to tell of his 1-on-1 basketball workout against Doug Collins, when Collins was being recruited by WIU. He claimed to have beaten Collins rather easily, with Collins famously choosing ISU shortly thereafter. He begrudgingly shared that Collins was only 5’11 at the time.
Upon graduating from college, he began a more than 30-year career as a heavy equipment operator for Local 649, working the last several with Tazewell County Blacktopping.
Along the way, he coached high school boys’ basketball at Williamsfield and Brimfield High Schools, coaching JV and assisting varsity coach Bob Anderson at Williamsfield, and serving as varsity head coach at Brimfield in the mid ‘80s. He served terms as varsity head baseball coach for both schools and ended his coaching career with 2 years as head men’s baseball coach at Carl Sandburg College.
Tbone was one of the founding members of the Laurel Greens Saturday Morning League, playing at the course from the year it opened until the day it closed. He was a long-time member of the Williamsfield Kickapoo Valley League baseball team. He loved to hit balls to the church in Kickapoo and toward the Illinois River in Kingston Mines. He was a long-time independent league basketball player in leagues at Trewyn, Churchill Junior High, Elmwood, and Williamsfield.
He was an avid outdoorsman from an early age, learning to identify birds by sight & sound, and animals by track & trail. He focused mainly on deer hunting, catfishing, and mushrooming as life went on. Tbone was a competitor by all accounts. He less liked to gamble, he more liked to win. He loved playing poker with friends. He loved taking their money even more. He was also a non-hipster aficionado of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
He left his mark forever on the community of Williamsfield by leading the ball diamond construction effort during the building of the new school. He spent countless hours grading the areas where the baseball and softball fields still stand, ensuring the kids of the community a place to play ball for years to come.
He was a storyteller. He was a writer. He was always armed with a story or a smile for anyone in need. He loved his family. He loved his friends. But most of all, he loved life. And live life he did.
Memorials can be sent to the Williamsfield Schools Light the Field Fund. Services will be held at a date to be determined. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is assisting the family with arrangements. Everyone who has a Tbone story or picture to share is encouraged to do so on The Life & Times of Terry “Tbone” Farquer Facebook page. Not into Facebook? Neither was Tbone. In that case, in the spirit of the Bone, look up Sharon Farquer’s address in a printed phone book and send her a handwritten note.

Ardis Mary Welch - December 16, 1926 - April 06, 2020

Departed: 04/06/2020 (Williamsfield)
Obituary Preview: Ardis Mary Welch nee Kimler, age 94, passed away April 6, 2020, at the Liberty Village Nursing Home in Peoria, IL.
Ardis was born to Paul "Brownie" and Althea Kimler on December 16, 1926 in Williamsfield, IL. She grew up in Williamsfield and graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1944.
In February of 1945 she married John "Jack" Welch of Elmore, IL in a military ceremony in San Angelo, Texas.
Ardis went to work after the war. It was a time when few married women worked and those who did had few options. The glass ceiling wasn't glass then, it was cast iron and very few women got around it. She was a diligent and conscientious worker; she was good with numbers and she enjoyed interacting with people. In many ways she was a trailblazer for the women who would flood into the work force in the late 70s and 80s.
Some of the money she earned went into boats. She and Jack started with an elderly 12-foot wooden runabout. They ended with a 31-foot cabin cruiser. When Jack retired, they took it from St. Paul, MN down the Mississippi through the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile and around the Gulf to Fort Meyers, FL. There they lived on the boat for a year while they built a new home in Punta Gorda Isles. They were there until Jack's health began to fail and they moved to a condominium. Jack died in 1998 and Ardis returned from Punta Gorda Isles to Illinois in 2015 when her own health began to fail.
Ardis cared deeply for family and friends. She liked music and she loved to dance. She enjoyed being a girl.
She is survived by sons Dana and Jon of Peoria; grandchildren Gail Irish of New Brighton, MN, Anna and husband David Lawrence of Columbia, MO and James and wife Aubrey Welch of Peoria; great grandchildren, Alexis Irish of New Brighton, Abigail and Rebecca Welch of Peoria, Sophia Lawrence of Columbia and great-great grandson, Lincoln Welch of Peoria.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 24 at Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield with Rev. Teri Shane officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Williamsfield Cemetery.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to notify friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy.

Who writes an obituary?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's usually between 100-500 words. The goal is to provide a concise yet meaningful summary of the person's life.

Can I include photos in an obituary?
