Obituary Preview: Shirley Tylee Hopper, 71, of Moncks Corner, wife of Howard Lamar Hopper, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
Shirley was born on August 2, 1950, in St. Stephen, South Carolina, daughter of Nathaniel Tylee and Marguerite Cofer Tylee.
Upon graduating from St. Stephen High School, class of 1968, Shirley attended Winthrop University and later graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from Limestone College. An accountant for DFAS, she retired after 25 years of employment.  Mrs. Hopper was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of First Baptist Church of St. Stephen until she transferred in 1994 to First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner where she faithfully served in the choir for many years. Among other things, she enjoyed going on weekly outings with her Sunday School class, trips to the beach, tending to her flower garden, and most of all spending time with her beloved family.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter- Marla H. Shipley and her husband, Brian of Bonneau Beach; a son- Nat Hopper and his wife, Erin of Hollywood; a sister- Bettye T. Shealy and her husband, David of St Stephen; a nephew- Jonathan Shealy and his wife, Charmaine of Summerville; two grandchildren- Joshua Shipley and Brianne Shipley; two step-grandchildren- Findlay Henderson and Sarah Beth Henderson. She is predeceased by her parents, Nathaniel Tylee and Marguerite Cofer Tylee.
Her memorial service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL of Moncks Corner, Sunday afternoon, April 10, 2022, at 3 o’clock. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner,112 E. Main St, Moncks Corner, SC 29461

A graduate of Berkeley High School, and a retiree of Santee Cooper, Sheila was an active member in her church where she volunteered in the nursery and the worship dance ministry. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, shopping, solving crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader who had quite the book collection. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Surviving are a daughter- Pam Yonke of Moncks Corner; a brother- Charles Richard Causey, Jr. of Timmonsville; grandchildren- Lori Beth of Moncks Corner and Katelyn Anderson; great-grandchildren- Mark Anthony Collins, Ryan Dirks, and Jason Blake Dirks. She is predeceased by her husband- Michael Vincent Yonke, Sr., and her son- Michael Yonke, Jr.

Obituary Preview: Ellen Mae Roper Tolbert, 63, of Jamestown, wife of Reverend Michael Eugene Tolbert, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
Ellen was born on July 3, 1958, in High Point, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Paul Buster Roper and Vera Alice Roper.
She was a nurse for Pruitt Health of Moncks Corner, where she was incredibly devoted to caring for each and every one of her residents. A giver by nature, she followed her heart in providing each person with love just as Jesus would. These were her very words each day before going to work.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 34 years are two daughters- Felisha Davidson, and Erica Nole and her husband, Richard of Jamestown; one son- Aaron Tolbert and his wife, Ciji of Lexington, South Carolina; one brother- Paul Buster Roper, Jr. and his wife, Janice of Thomasville, North Carolina; two sisters- Lois Shields and her husband, Kenneth of Pinnacle, North Carolina, and Hope Tinnes and her husband, Gary of Winston- Salem, North Carolina; nine grandchildren- Vanessa Skipper, Michael Skipper, Renayjah Nole, Kama Bolling, Amber Tolbert, Michael Tolbert, Ian Tolbert, James Tolbert, and Dakota Johnson; two great-grandchildren- Axel Johnson and Ayrabella Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Eddie Skipper, and her brother, Donald Roper.
Her funeral service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel, Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2022, at 1 o’clock. Interment will follow at Halfway Creek Cemetery in Shulerville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 o’clock until the hour of service.

Obituary Preview: Dominick “Nick” Stephen Venturella, 82, of Moncks Corner, SC, husband of Janet Letki, passed away at his residence on March 27, 2022.
Dominick was born March 29, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Dominick Venturella and Teresa Campion Venturella.
A graduate of St. Mary’s of the Mount High School, class of 1957, and a recipient of a Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio State University, Nick worked tirelessly as a juvenile delinquency counselor for 10 years and later retired from National Car Rental. He enjoyed working with the youth in a variety of ways, including counseling the troubled, being a Big Brother, and coaching basketball. His love for spending time with people spilled out into every area of his life, he simply did not meet a stranger and relished in making others feel loved and appreciated. Additionally, he enjoyed time spent working in the yard and tending to his garden and was a member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, where he joyfully served as an usher and Eucharist Minister for many years.
He will be fondly remembered by his beloved wife of 34 years, his family members, and his community.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a brother, Anthony Venturella of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
His funeral service will be held at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church of Summerville, Friday afternoon, April 1, 2022, at 1 o'clock. Interment will follow at Berkeley Memorial Gardens at 4:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, on the evening of March 31, 2022, from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock, directed by Russell Funeral Chapel.

Obituary Preview: Wayne “BoBo” Forte, Age 72, of Bethera, SC passed away at his residence on March 25, 2022.   Wayne was born December 12, 1949, at Fort Belvoir, VA, to Bobby G. Forte and Ithene “Tena” Hood Forte Easterling.
Wayne retired from Berkeley County Government with 28 years of service and worked at Falcon Children’s Home in NC for 7 years.  He was a graduate of Macedonia High School, where he was class President, lettered in 3 sports, and drove a school bus for 2 years. He enjoyed 20+ years officiating various sports in Moncks Corner, Charleston, SCISA, and Raleigh NC.  He was involved in coaching and officiating Little League youth sports in Moncks Corner and coordinated the softball and baseball games for the famous “Hell Hole Swamp” festival for many years.  He was a lifelong, enthusiastic fan and supporter of the Clemson Tigers through IPTAY for over 50 years, and enjoyed hunting, camping, shrimping, and playing softball.  He was a media member and supporter of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and Hickory Grove IPHC.
In 1985, he was appointed Berkeley County Assessor by the late Senator Rembert C. Dennis.  During his time as assessor, he served as President of the SC Association of Assessing Officials and obtained his SC Residential Appraisal License.  He worked for several years as Berkeley County Safety Manager.
He is survived by his wife, June Brown Forte, a son, Sean Forte (Jaime), a daughter, Brandee Forte Gibson (Carl), his mother of Moncks Corner, a brother, David Forte of Oxford, NC, and a sister, Debra Forte-Ford of Moncks Corner.  He is also survived by nephews Dewey Ford, Ryan Ford, Troy Forte, Josh Forte, and nieces Jennifer Forte, Mallory Forte Nickerson, Amy Forte, Amber Ford Neville, his good friends Gunner and Dixie, and his beloved dog Gabe.  He was predeceased in death by his father, Bobby G. Forte, and a brother, Gene M. Forte, his grandparents, Harry and Minnie Hood and Allen and Elma H. Forte, his dog Toby, and his cat, Tigee.
His memorial service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 12 o'clock. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 o'clock until the hour of service.

Irvin was born August 25, 1958, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, a son of Victor I Tuttle, Sr., and Betty Grant Tuttle Knight.
Mr. Tuttle was a graduate of Berkeley High School and received his BA in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. A longtime financial manager in the Banking and Automotive Industries, his places of employment included, South Carolina National Bank, Bilton Ford, and Berkeley Ford. He was a member of the SC Gamecock Club and the Moncks Corner Jaycees, and enjoyed boating in the waters of South Carolina. He will be remembered fondly by his family and friends.
Surviving are a brother- Larry Tuttle and his wife, Nancy, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; five nephews- Grant and Alec Tuttle of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, and Justin, Andrew, and Matthew Tuttle of Lexington, South Carolina. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is predeceased by his brother, David Tuttle.
His memorial service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 107 W. Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC, Sunday, March 27, 2022, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

Belma was born in Bonneau, South Carolina on October 3, 1931, a daughter of Larry Lee Gaskins and Bessie Wyndham Gaskins.
She was a graduate of Macedonia High, class of 1949, and a member of Macedonia Christian Church. She enjoyed playing basketball in her high school years and passionately followed the game for the better part of her life. Additionally, she loved sewing beautiful garments for her family members, attending her children and grandchildren’s activities, and took joy in caring for her garden and flower beds, although the Dogwoods and Azaleas were always her favorite.
Belma will be remembered as an incredibly kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who also made sure everyone she met felt cared for and included.
Surviving are two sons- William Franklin “Frankie” Price, Jr. of Macedonia; Henry Michael “Hank” Price and his wife, Emily, of Grimesland, North Carolina; two brothers- Legrand “Boots” Gaskins of Macedonia; and Alton “Popeye” Gaskins of Macedonia; three sisters- Jeanette Ramirez of California, Joann Gist of Oklahoma, and Sylvia Allen of Bonneau; five grandchildren- Hunter Price and his wife, Beth, of Columbia; Will Price and his wife, Melissa, of Columbia; Evan Price and his wife, Caitlin, of Greenville; Brice Hughes of Columbia; Blake Glenn and her husband, Evan, of Bonneau; three great-grandchildren- Coleman Price, Lorelai Price, and Tate Glenn; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; two sisters, Lila Bobo and Frieda Matlock; and a brother, W.J. Gaskins.

Flora was born September 3, 1942, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Brinkley “B.J.” Richardson and Frankie Addis Richardson.
She was raised in Lancaster, South Carolina, and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1960. Flora later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she met her late husband, Richard Jones. Together they relocated to Clover, South Carolina, in January of 1976. She worked as an administrative assistant for La Marick Beauty and then Rutland Plastisols. After her husband’s death, she moved to Bonneau, South Carolina, to be with her daughter.
Surviving are a daughter- Kimberly Brewer and her husband, Brantley; three grandchildren- Dorothy Thornley, Ricky Thornley, and James Brewer; a sister- Elsie Byrne and her husband, Dick; a brother-in-law- Ed Jones and his wife, Becky; a sister-in-law- Caryn Riley and her husband, Dave; a nephew- Mark Byrne and his wife, Donna, and a niece- Karen Kinzey and her husband, Bruce.

Elsie Jane Scurry - March 08, 1936 - March 02, 2022

Obituary Preview: Ms. Elsie Jane Burleson Scurry entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.  Her memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, March 10th at the First Baptist Church in Bowman, SC.  Arrangements are being made by Russell Funeral Home in Moncks Corner, SC.
Ms. Scurry was born on March 8, 1936, in Barnardsville, North Carolina, daughter of the late Vantus Van and Edna Mae Burleson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings and Mr. Robert Ellis Case, Mr. James B Mills, Sr., and Mr. Leonard Paul Scurry.  She is survived by two sisters, Ms. Betty Boone of Pickens SC, Ms. Martha Jackson of Chapin, SC; and her brother Mr. Paul Burleson (Beulah) of Orangeburg SC.
She is also survived by her five children: Robert “Danny” Case (Darlene) of Asheville NC, Debbie Miler (Richard) of Summerville SC, Edna “Cricket” Grooms (Donald) of St. Stephen SC, Rita Berry (Chris) of Summerville SC and Stephanie Peagler, of Moncks Corner SC. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Elsie was always involved with her church and loved gospel music.  She loved going to Christian Gospel concerts, especially those led by The Gaither Vocal Band and Friends.  She dedicated her life to children and spent many years operating a childcare service for families she cared for.  But the love of her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She also loved spending time with her sisters in the mountains.  Coming from a large family (nine siblings) and growing up in western North Carolina, she had a love for the great outdoors and any adventures that would bring her family together.  Especially at Christmas time, where the extended Burleson family (usually over 130 people) would have their annual Christmas party, share food, put on skits for entertainment, sing music together, and have one of the family members dressed as Santa Clause hand out a few gifts.
The family extends their appreciation to all who cared for Ms. Scurry and held her up in thought and prayer.

Mr. Williams was a loving father, grandfather and son, and a US Army veteran. He was a contractor for many years and loved spending time with his grandchildren and working on cars.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are a son- Damon M. Collins and his wife, Quawntaigsa; three daughters- Tina Gibbs, Jennifer Collins, and Beverly Metts; Eight grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; four brothers- Joe Williams and his wife, Patti of Bonneau; Terri Davis and his wife, Lisa of Pensacola, Florida; William A. Johns of Cincinnati, Ohio; Bruce L. Johns of Newington, Georgia; four sisters- Carol Meredith of Pensacola, Florida; Joanne Williams of Ludowici, Georgia; Mary Wright and her husband, Mark of Salisbury, North Carolina; Frances Allmon and her husband, Scott of Salisbury, North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his father, Jimmy was predeceased by his step-father, Bill Johns.
His funeral service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, Thursday morning, February 24, 2022, at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until the hour of service.

Rusty was born on September 1, 1965, in Danville, Illinois, the son of Charles L. Spyker and Reba Butcher Spyker.
He graduated in 1983 from Westville High School in Westville, Illinois, where he was the captain of the wrestling team and played the saxophone for the school band.  Rusty was incredibly industrious and was called Mr. Fix-it by his family and friends. His neighbors knew him as a kind and generous man that could be depended on to come to their aid when they needed help the most. He will be sadly missed by the family he loved so dear as well as a host of friends from far and wide. He is predeceased by both parents, and survived by a daughter- Haylee Nixon of Danville; a son- Danny Spyker of Atlanta; a sister- Tammi (Paul) Camilletti of Moncks Corner; three nephews- Duane Camilletti, Chuckie Smith, and Ryan Smith

Jean DeHay Guerry - December 26, 1929 - February 16, 2022

Obituary Preview: Jean DeHay Guerry, of Jamestown, South Carolina, wife of the late Cecil B. Guerry, passed away February 16, 2022, at the age of 92.
Jean was born to parents David McCants DeHay and Marguerite Todd DeHay on December 26, 1929, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
In addition to being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jean used her many talents and skills in an array of duties outside the home including playing the piano every Sunday for 50 years at St. James United Methodist Church and developing a nationally recognized Butterfly Garden at the Jamestown Park.
She was also a valued member of the South Carolina Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution, a Charter Member of the Berkeley County Historical Society, a Jamestown Town Council Member for many years, where she was currently serving, and played an important role in organizing the Hell Hole Swamp Festival.  Mrs. Guerry will be fondly remembered by her family, friends, and her community.
Surviving are a daughter- Carol Guerry and her husband, Marshall Allen of Moncks Corner; a son- Mark Guerry and his wife, Mary Robin of Moncks Corner; a daughter-in-law- Sally Guerry; three sisters- Patricia D. Fluery, Beverly D. Adams, and Hazel D. Hughes; six grandchildren- Caroline Nettles, Paul Nettles, Ryan Guerry, James Guerry, Mia G. Koehler, and Megan Guerry, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Cecil B. Guerry; two sons- C. Spencer Guerry and Douglas C. Guerry; one sister- Estelle D. Haselton, and one brother- David Todd DeHay.
Her graveside service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery, Friday afternoon, February 25, 2022, at 1 o’clock, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL.

Mrs. McSwain was a retired Vice President of First National Bank in Charleston where she faithfully worked for 27 years. She enjoyed time spent tending to her flower garden, and delighted in feeding and watching the hummingbirds that visited her regularly. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all that knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons- Charles “Chris” McSwain and his wife, Jemmy Lea of Naples, Florida, and Gary McSwain and his wife, Sandra of Blue Ridge, Georgia; one grandchild- Hannah Grace McSwain; four sisters- Lib Rischer, Helen Dennis, Glenda Skipper and Brenda Lowder; three brothers- Chaistene Powell, Wallace Powell and T.D. Robert was born September 22, 1942, in Charleston County, a son of Heyward Raymond and Bessie Lee Raymond.

Surviving are a son- Edward Dewayne Raymond and his wife, Jessica of Summerville; two grandchildren- Dustin Walker and Kaylie Raymond.
His memorial service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel, Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 1 o'clock.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son- Tanner James Henderson and one daughter- Emily Grace Henderson, both of Summerville; one step-daughter- Everson Grace Walker and two step-sons- Henry Ellis Walker and Robert Howard Walker, all of Mt. Pleasant; one brother- Michael Fort of Minnesota; two uncles- Randy Fort and James Munn; two aunts- Ann Wise and Jerry Adams; four nieces and nephews- Tristan Fort, Cody Fort, Butterfly Clegg and River Clegg; and her fur baby- Walter.
Her graveside service will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens, Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 11 o’clock, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL.

Mixson and his wife, Bernice of Moncks Corner, two sisters-in-law, Teena Mixson and Arla Winklepleck, and special friend, Christopher Fitzpatrick. Clayton was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Mixson Winklepleck, a daughter, Donna W. Phipps, a son, Kenneth E. Winklepleck, one sister and three brothers.
Mr. Winklepleck was a US Air Force veteran as well as a sheet metal worker at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, the owner and operator of a van conversion company, Performance Vans of America, and later in years enjoyed working as an appliance repairman. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Clayton’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. He loved being an active member of New Covenant Church, taking trips to Dukes for his all-time favorite BBQ, spending time with his beloved dog, Boli, and rooting for the Gamecocks and his favorite Nascar drivers. He will truly be missed by his family, friends, and his church family. His funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 2 o’clock. Frank was born January 11, 1942, in Falls Church, Virginia, son of Frank Grover and Evelyn Frances Bratten.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Lyndall J. Halsley and Joanne T. Knowles, and one brother, Richard L. Johns.
Frank was deeply involved in the theatre to include the Hayloft Dinner Theatre in Virginia, and served as Production Director from December 1971 – February 1972.  Production credits include: “Under the Yum-Yum Tree”; “The Girl in the Freudian Slip”; and “Cabaret”.  He went on to serve his country as a civil servant for the U. S. Army in the MWR working in Alaska and Belgium as an Executive Officer.  He transferred to Charleston as the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to finish out his career.
At Frank's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service immediately planned. In lieu of this, please take a moment to remember your relationship with Frank with a moment of silence and/or donate in his name to his charity of choice, the Shriner's Hospital for Children.

In mature years, Frances lived comfortably with four other ladies under the auspices of the Charleston Disabilities Board. Frances loved and enjoyed her family and friends. She enjoyed occasions that brought families together, whatever the reason.  Frances’ claim to fame was her ever-present “Word Searches”. She was also a very competitive player in group games. It was always “good luck” to have Frances on your team!

Mr. Roszak’s service included time spent in the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he then retired from Lockheed Martin where he continued his work as a sheet metal mechanic on military aircraft.
Surviving are his sister, Gloria Lorenz (Roy), his daughter Linda Knickerbocker (Gary), his son Tracy Roszak (Jennifer), and his stepson Eric Etheridge (Kathy). He leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Stella Roszak; 3 brothers- Joe, Leonard and Frank Roszak; his wife Peggy Roszak, and son Ronald Roszak.
Mr. Roszak will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Peggy in a private graveside service to be held at Plantation Memorial Gardens, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner, SC.
