Judy was born February 10, 1965 in Des Moines, Iowa to Carl Nussbaum and Linda Lou Foster (Bebe). Judy grew up in Des Moines, moving to Green Castle in 2007. She is survived by: Her daughters, Brittnie Parrish of Green City and Shantel Brassfield of Ames, Iowa; Significant Other, Ruben Brassfield of the home; 4 Grandchildren; several siblings; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: Her parents; and a brother, Jerry Nussbaum.
Judy enjoyed collecting Amish figurines, miniatures, and going to the “Sally Shop”. She loved her family and spending time with her kids and “grand-babies”. She was bighearted and generous to a fault.
A memorial visitation for Judy will be held 3:00 PM– 4:00PM, Saturday, May 18, 2024 with a service at 4:00 PM, at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City, Missouri.

Obituary Preview: Pastor Creighton Campbell Cox began his amazing journey on November 8th, 1944 in Milan, MO and began his heavenly path on April 15th, 2024 in Lee’s Summit, MO surrounded by his family and friends.
Creighton was the son of Clell and Virginia Cox. He married the love of his life, Diane, on June 22, 1985. He is survived by his wife Diane Cox, brother Louis (Norma) Cox of Carl Junction, MO, sons Creig (Lisa) Cox of Spring Hill, FL, Christian (Tammy) Cox of Lee’s Summit, MO, grandchildren, Alex Cox, Quincy Cox, and CJ Cox, nephews Anthony Cox, Dehric Cox, Trent Fisher, Troy Fisher, nieces Robyn Lancaster, Natalie Cox, and Mikaela Fortuna.
During the 79 years of his journey, he made stops in Blue Springs, MO, Shell Knob, MO, Springfield, MO, Jefferson City, MO and Lone Jack, MO. He developed many dear friendships along the way.
He will return home to his beloved Milan, MO on Tuesday April 23rd, 2024. Services will include a visitation at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home (120 W. 4th St, Milan, MO) from 9:00am-10:00am, followed by the funeral at Milan First United Methodist Church (120 W 1st St, Milan, MO) at 11:00am. Graveside will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. On Wednesday, April 24th, there will be a celebration of his life at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church (1300 Lexington Rd, Pleasant Hill, MO) beginning at 5:00pm.

Scott Allen Somers - June 13, 1970 - April 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: After growing up on the East Coast, Scott Somers found the love of his life in the Midwest, so he packed his bags and moved to Milan, MO where he spent the remainder of his life. Scott Allen Somers was born on June 13, 1970 to Larry and Sandra (Lango) Somers in Waterbury, CT and passed away in Milan, MO on April 5, 2024. On September 22, 2001, he was united in marriage to Stephanie Michael Somers of Milan, MO. She survives of the home.
Scott served his working life as an electrician. Most of these years were spent with Deem Electrical and Mechanical Corporation, where he traveled the state of Missouri working on various commercial projects. He was also known to take on jobs throughout the neighborhood if he could lend a helping hand.
Being East Coast born and raised, Scott had a passion for the New York Yankees and the New England Patriots. Scott enjoyed collecting Yankee memorabilia and proudly hung a Yankee stadium sign over his “man cave” in their home. He was also an avid fan of UConn Lady Husky basketball, spending several NCAA championship games in a house divided as Stephanie cheered on the Lady Vols of Tennessee.
In 2020 he found a love for Jeep off-road adventures while vacationing in Tennessee. Soon after he purchased a 2015 Jeep Wrangler which he spent countless hours getting ready for more off-road adventures. He fondly named her the Jungleer with an Army Infantry logo on the hood in honor of his grandfather. Some of his best days were spent on the dusty trails driving his jeep over the challenging terrains of the Ozarks. Scott also enjoyed all types of music, playing the guitar and cooking, especially for his friends and family.
Scott is survived by his wife Stephanie, sister Tina (Stephen) Pelletier of Novinger, Missouri; father-in-law CJ Michael and sister-in-law Shelly Forster both of Milan. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Anthony, Jordan, Piper, Scottiana and Lorelai Pelletier of Novinger, Missouri; Drew (Ahlea) Forster and Alyssa (Cooper) Bankus of Granger, Iowa; also his great nieces Marley and Sophie Forster and great nephew Raylen Bankus.
Funeral services for Scott will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at Bairdstown Cemetery, North of Milan. A visitation is scheduled for 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday evening, at the funeral home.

Carolyn was born February 7, 1939 in Adams, Nebraska to Carl and Janet Fischer. On April 17, 1989, she married Randall Romine, he preceded her in death. She was also preceded by: Her parents and two brothers, Gary Fischer and Lynn Fischer.
Carolyn is survived by: a son, Jon West and wife Jennifer of Winigan; two daughters, Jan Lange of Missouri City, Missouri and Jeri Handy and husband Ron of Lafayette, Louisiana; a sister, Rose Wade of Lincoln, Nebraska; Grandkids, Mariah (Thomas) Stone, Ashley West, Jonathon West, and Josh West; Great Grandkids, Bentley Rick, Katie Stone, Savannah Stone, Madison Stone, and Taylor Stone.
Carolyn grew up in Nebraska and worked at Russell Stover's in Lincoln, Nebraska and on a farm helping milk cows. She then lived in Kansas City and worked at Armco Steel. She then retired with Randall to the Winigan area and had a cleaning business. Carolyn enjoyed travelling, going on cruises and to casinos, and playing cards. She was a member of the Winigan Christian Church.
A Celebration of Life for Carolyn will be held 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Christian Church in Winigan, Missouri.

Clifford was born August 26, 1949 in Unionville, Missouri to Neal and Lita (Shilt) Furnish. On April 18, 1970, he married Beverly (Hummel) Furnish, she survives of the home. He is also survived by: Four children, Bryan Furnish (Megan) of Milan, Laura McBee and the late, Jason Gibbs of Liberty, Missouri, Christa Widner (Matt) of Lucerne, Missouri, and Erin Furnish (Kyle Fordyce) of Newtown, Missouri; Grandchildren, Marcus Furnish, Madison Furnish, Korbyn Furnish, Alec McBee, Raygen McBee, Lauren Fordyce, Anna Fordyce, Ellie Fordyce, Izabell Miller, Mazey Miller, Andrew Fordyce, and Sebastian Fordyce; a sister, Deborah Sandefur of Olathe, Kansas; nephews, Nicholas Sandefur and Ian Sandefur (Tracy); a brother-in-law, Martin “Butch” Hummel (Debbie) of Lawson, Missouri; Sisters-in-law, Virginia “Jenny” Hulsopple (David) of Savannah, Missouri, Sara Blanchard (Tim) of Lucerne, Missouri, and Maggie Brown of Princeton, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: His parents; and a daughter, Shawna Rae Furnish.
Clifford grew up west of Powersville and West of Milan, graduating from Milan C-II in 1967. He owned and operated Furnish Body Shop, then served in the United States Army in Germany, where Beverly spent a year with him, before they moved back to the area, finally settling in 1988 at their farm, west of Milan. Over the years, Clifford owned and operated his Auto body shop and farmed. He was a member of the American Legion, served as a board member for MFA, and was on the committee at Milan C-II, helping plan for the new school addition. Clifford was an avid Milan C-II supporter and fan, watching his kids and grandkids play sports. Clifford enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading, he loved discussing politics with his brother-in-law, Butch and with Janet and the crew at MFA, and enjoyed the coffee group.
A service for Clifford will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Milan Christian Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday evening, at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan.

Virginia Mae Dehm - August 30, 1922 - April 01, 2024

Obituary Preview: Virginia Mae (Thomas) Dehm, 101, of Green City, Mo. Passed peacefully into the arms of our precious Jesus shortly after 9p.m. on April 1,2024 at Milan Health Care Center where she resided the last 6-years.
Virginia was born to White and Faye (Bachman) Thomas on August 30, 1922, near Pennville, Mo, the middle child of five siblings. She grew up on a small farm near Pennville, Mo and attended a country school through eighth grade. Virginia and her siblings were raised in a home filled with love and witnessed faithful service to the Lord by hosting traveling missionaries and visitors to the church. Virginia's mother and sisters played the piano by ear and sang hymns together.
On December 23, 1936, she married Howard Rudolph Dehm. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa while Howard served in the US Navy as a Seabee. Upon Howard's discharge they settled in Green City. Virginia and Howard welcomed two sons, Johnny Howard Dehm and Carlos Michael Dehm.
Virginia was a homemaker taking great pride in caring for her family, friends, neighbors and her church family. She kept and immaculate home, cooked delicious meals; Howard needed his meat and potatoes daily! Molasses cookies and date cookies among some of the favorites. She kept a large garden every year, harvesting produce to can and freeze for her family and abundance to neighbors. She loved to have a beautiful lawn and walked daily around Green City. After moving into Milan Health Care she would walk the halls daily as well. She was always welcoming with a beautiful smile and a warm hug; her hugs were the best and you felt them long after. Virginia spent many years providing day-care for many children in Green City. During the summer months her grandchildren would come and stay for long visits. They were often confused as to why those children called her Grandma too! They were so fortunate! Virginia's love for children had no limit. Virginia's parents lived in Green City as well and she helped with their care as they aged visiting them daily. Virginia loved her family and her nieces and nephews, as if they were her own children. They fondly referred to her as "Aunt Ninny."
Virginia was a patriot and gave many years of volunteering to the voting events in Green City. She was so proud of the military men in her family and their service to their country. Her husband, Howard, US Navy Seabee, son, Carlos Michael, US Air Force, Grandson, Jimmy Dehm, US Navy Seabee, Great Grandson, Adam Everley, US Army Retired.
Virginia lived her life as a faithful servant for the one day she would meet her precious Jesus. She always had a prayer on her lips. She was a member of the Assembly of God church in Green City. Virginia loved her time at Milan Healthcare Center. She would often say “ They are so good to me”. She greeted everyone there daily with her warm, wonderful hugs. She chose Milan for one of the residents that resided there, her sister n law; Mary Jean Thomas. The two ladies were a pair, walking the halls, visiting each other in their rooms, sitting on the front porch in the nicer weather. If you saw one the other was surely near. Mary Jean and Virginia looked forward to the weekly Sunday visit by family that brought them pastries and drinks. When Mary Jean passed, Virginia kept walking the halls but deeply missed her walking partner. Virginia’s nieces and nephews constantly displayed their love for their Aunt Ninny by showering her with phone calls, cards, flowers, and wonderful treats and surprises.
Virginia will be cremated, and a graveside service for inurnment of her ashes will be at the Green City Cemetery with her beloved husband; Howard by the family at a later date.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Milan Healthcare Center for their compassion and loving care of Virginia as well as accommodations for family visiting from a distance during her final days. The last few days of Virginia's life she received excellent care from Three Rivers Hospice; for this the family thanks you.

Phyllis Lanell McCollum - September 15, 1931 - March 28, 2024

Obituary Preview: Phyllis Lanell McCollum, 92, of New Boston, MO died Thursday morning, March 28, 2024, in her home.
The daughter of Clifford and Bernice (Crist) Brantner, she was born September 15, 1931. On June 3, 1950, she married Richard Dean McCollum, who preceded her in death on April 23, 2018. Also preceding her were her parents. She is survived by 2 sons, Mark McCollum and companion Jill Jenkins, Don McCollum and wife Janice, and 1 daughter, Dena Overpeck and husband Dan; 7 grandchildren: Shandra Roberts, Krista Allen, Alex MacDonnell, Kylie Parks, Hunter McCollum, Josh Overpeck and Adam Overpeck; and 11 great grandchildren: Layne, Kyler, Brayden, Connor, Cameron, Theo, Claire, Lynlee, Arlee, Jace and Liam; 1 sister Melba Belzer, and 1 brother Ronald Brantner and wife Evelyn.
Phyllis graduated from Green City High School, then received her teaching certificate and taught in a one-room school. She helped manage the family farm and home, and later worked in Physical Therapy at Pershing Hospital for 20 years. She was a very active member of Winigan Baptist Church, and was not shy about sharing her faith in Jesus. She was loved by her family, and many friends, neighbors and church family. She was well known for “praying mightily” for people. She was an avid quilter, and enjoyed singing and playing piano at church, including playing piano for “His Kids”, and directing musical cantatas. She was also known for making her famous skillet corn and cinnamon rolls to share. Her favorite vacations were to visit Dan and Dena in Indiana. Later in life when Dean was ill, she was comforted by memorizing Bible scriptures, and continued until the day she passed. Her faith in Jesus gave her the courage to persevere through many difficult times in her life, and she desired to see everyone put their faith and hope in Jesus Christ.
A funeral service for Phyllis will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday April 2, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Winigan, Missouri. Burial will follow at the Price Cemetery, South of Winigan.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM at the church. Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City, Missouri is handling arrangements.

Renea was the oldest daughter of John Douglas Harden and Helen Charlene Enger. She was born on April 1st, 1963, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She attended schools in Green City and Milan, Missouri. She moved to Topeka, KS where she met Kerry Fiebig and after test driving their relationship for five years, she decided he wasn't a lemon; they were finally married April 1st, 1994. She is survived by her devoted husband, four daughters: April Brown of Cameron, Mo; Danielle Neff (Adrian) of Richland, Mo; Janielle Fiebig (Matt Gormley) of Richland, Mo; Felicia Roberts (Tim) of Maysville, Mo; her son Johnny Danner (Ashley) of Kearney, Mo; eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her mother Helen (Bud Casteel) of Columbia, Mo; her four sisters: Cristine Ralls (David) of Zolfa Springs, FL; Dondie Meyer (Robert McLinn) of Topeka KS; Candy Conser (Jason) of Berryton KS; and Alta Myers (Rocky) of Osage City KS.
She is preceded in death, by her grandparents, father John Harden, step-father Phillip Ralls, a brother Shawn Ralls, sister Debra Ralls, niece Morgan Myers, and two grandchildren Kolton Eli Nickel and Trinity Faith Roberts. Renea loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles and had a collection of their t-shirts. She loved the Kansas City Chiefs, camping and fishing in her early years. Renea loved puzzles and spent hours on hours putting them together. She would do anything for her family and was, is, and forever will be our Rock. We will truly miss her!

Obituary Preview: Eldo “Buster” Emerson Eaglen III, 52, of Milan, Missouri, passed away on Friday March 1, 2024, at Mosaic Life Center in St. Joseph, Missouri, he was an advocate for organ donation and continued the gift of Life.
Eldo was born on May 11, 1971, to Eldo “Butch” Eaglen Jr. and Cheryl Sue (Gragg) Eaglen. He is survived by one son, Bodie (Joana) Eaglen of Milan, daughter, Catherine (Wyatt) Nickell of Seymour, Iowa, Mother of his children Toni Eaglen of Milan, grandchildren, Keylee Jacobs, Adela Eaglen, Kellan Eaglen, Kaya Eaglen and Braesyn Nickell, sister, Kara (Eaglen) Segal of Polo, Missouri, niece, Kylee Eaglen, nephew, Aden Segal, and significant other, Amy Henderson of St. Joseph; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kevin Jacobs, niece, Hanna Mariee Segal, maternal and paternal grandparents.
Eldo spent most of his life in the Milan area, graduating from Milan High School in 1989. He enjoyed mushroom hunting with his mushroom princess and fishing with his boys. He also enjoyed gardening. He coached football in the area for many years, and was an avid Wildcat fan.
A graveside service for Eldo will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Lonesome Pine Cemetery, Northwest of Milan. A visitation is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday evening at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan.

James Edward Riley, Jr. - January 19, 1950 - February 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: James Edward Riley passed from this life to the next on February 22, 2024 after a short battle with a brain tumor. James (Ed) was born in Eugene, OR on January 19, 1950 to Martha May and James Edward Riley, Sr. James married the love of his life, Frances (Fran) Garrett on May 21, 1970 in Whitebird, ID after joining the US Army. The couple was stationed in Bitburg Germany where eldest son, Colby, was born in June of 1971. The couple welcomed Angel in August of 1972 and Jeremy in August of 1975. After being discharged from the Army, James moved his family to The Dalles, OR where he worked for Martin Marietta Aluminum Plant.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Fran Riley, sister, Martha (Mae) Hartzel, and parents Martha and James Riley. He is survived by his children Colby (Erika), Angel, and Jeremy (Kindra) as well as his grandchildren David and Avonlea. James is also survived by his brothers Alan and Thom Riley.
James was a faithful Christian who was involved in many ministries at his church. He attended Apostolic Worship Center (formerly Neighborhood Church) in Gresham, OR for many years and most recently was attending Landmark Pentecostal Church in Kirksville, MO.
James loved God and his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. A Memorial service for James will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Landmark Pentecostal Church in Kirksville, Missouri

Obituary Preview: On the morning of Friday, February 16, 2024, Billie Jean Oertwig passed away at the age of 92 at the Winnsboro, Texas Lakeview Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Jean lived numerous years in the Purdin, MO area.
Jean was born in Detroit Michigan, May 2, 1931, to Glenn and Leolin (Smart) Moore. Her parents later moved the family to Milan, MO area. Jean was a schoolteacher in a one room school, restaurant owner, waitress, bank teller and health care worker. She enjoyed working and helping people, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. In fact, when she was living in an assisted living facility, she would help the workers put out silverware and napkins etc. in the dining hall. She made a comment that the people who lived there sure were lazy, they didn’t do anything.
Jean’s parents preceded her in death, as well by her husband Harvey Oertwig (2010) her daughter Vickie Lynn Hartwig (2017), granddaughter Christie Steele (2022) and her brother Jake Moore.
She is survived by her sister Phyllis Riddle of Milan, MO; son Terrance D. Oertwig and wife Cherry, of Winnsboro, TX; three grandchildren ; Alana Eggleston, Tiffany Daniels, Quinn Oertwig; 10 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean loved gardening and cats until her health didn’t allow her those activities. Then she loved to visit, watch old movies and look at pictures of family, especially children.
There will be a family graveside service in the spring, date to be determined.

Obituary Preview: Glenda Louise (Frazier) Clark, previously of Milan, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the Columbia Manor Care Center in Columbia, MO with family at her side. Glenda was 77 years old.
Glenda was born on January 26, 1947 in Chillicothe, MO and came home with loving parents Glen and Fern (May) Frazier to the family farm in Milan where Glenda lived the majority of her life.
Glenda graduated from Milan C-2 High School in 1965. She spoke fondly of her classmates throughout her entire life while she enjoyed planning reunions and other special projects to keep the close-knit class in touch.
On July 19th, 1975, Glenda married Carroll Clark in Milan, MO. Glenda was a fierce and loyal mother to three biological children Shane Barnes, Ryan Clark, and Hayley (Clark) Batterson and also Carroll’s children Lori (Clark) Butler and James (Jim) Clark.
Glenda was an active part of the Milan community working different jobs including the Milan Standard, McDonald’s, and the Sullivan County Public Library. She often shared her musical gifts during weddings and funeral services and also when accompanying services for the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Glenda was an avid supporter of Milan Wildcat athletics and was a proud member of the Milan Christian Church where she played the piano, directed the church choir, and provided leadership for children’s education programs including VBS and Sunday School.
After her retirement and her husband’s death in 2003, Glenda chose to leave Milan and move to Columbia, MO to be closer to family and provide care for grandchildren. During her time in Columbia, Glenda joined the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and again became active in children’s education, teaching Sunday School. She also volunteered her time helping many neighbors in her retirement community. Upon moving to the Columbia Manor, Glenda continued to be outspoken and spunky, earning the love and respect of the staff as well as serving on the Resident’s Council.
Glenda is survived by four children; Shane Barnes of Columbia, Ryan (Nicole) Clark of Liberty, Hayley (Matt) Batterson of Columbia, Lori (Dennis) Butler of Tolono, IL, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, her beloved brother Kim Frazier of Anchorage, AK, and many special friends who she touched along the way.
Glenda is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Fern (May) Frazier, her husband Carroll Clark, stepson James (Jim) Clark, and brother Creig Frazier.
A Celebration of Life service for Glenda will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 AM.   Glenda’s final resting place will be next to her husband Carroll at Dunreath Cemetery in Iowa.

Margaret was survived by: One son, Jack Shoop of Milan; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Shoop of Brookfield; 5 grandchildren, Jaci Sayre (Larry), Rodney Shoop (Terry), Leighton Shoop (Kim), Kim Chastine (Ron), and Jordan Shoop; 6 great grandchildren, Josh Huck (Sydney), Megan Tarpening (Jake), Matthew Shoop (Kaysee), Molly Shoop, Alyssa Chastine, and Aaron Chastine; 10 great great grandchildren; a brother, Duane Franklin of Jefferson City, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret spent most of her life in Milan, graduating from Milan C-II. She worked on their farm and at Banquet Food for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and loved to cook. She made sure her kids and grandkids always had a home and a meal.

Leo was born on September 27, 1944, in Winigan, Missouri, to Raymond and Nellie (Walker) McCollum. Leo was a graduate of Milan High School and then served in the Army, stationed in Germany. After his military service, he returned to the area where he worked for Cowgill Farms and was also a school bus driver until his retirement. In his younger years, Leo enjoyed riding motorcycles. He has always enjoyed working and tinkering with engines, from motorcycles and cars to lawnmowers. He enjoyed watching wrestling and western movies and he also mowed several yards.
Leo is survived by three children; Michael McCollum of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Shannon McCollum of Milan, Missouri and Melissa McGraw of Macon, Missouri, nine grandchildren; Christian McCollum, Mercedes McCollum, Kyle McCollum, Courtney, McCollum, Madison McCollum, Kayleigh Lafaver, Kari Lorton, Kelsie Lorton and Kasady Lorton, one great grandchild; Elizabeth Poor, two sisters; Geraldine Gronemeier of Columbia, Missouri and Virginia Banner of Kirksville, Missouri, one brother; Dwain McCollum of Milan, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. Larry was born on April 26, 1947, in Harris Missouri, to Gean and Muriel (Foster) Hostetter of Harris, Missouri. On April 2nd, 1966, he married Linda Joan Smith of Harris and to this union two daughters were born. He is survived by his wife Linda of the home, two daughters; Tracy (Kevin) Sloan and Wendy (Mac) Williams all of Gladstone, five grandchildren; Travis Hostetter, Mikayla Williams, Gabrielle Williams, Tyree Hostetter and Mason Sloan, two great grandchildren; Isabela and Travis Hostetter Jr; sisters Jean Kunkel and Peggy (Donnie) Stephens: brothers-in-law Randy (Debbie) Smith and Ronnie Smith. Nieces and nephews Paula McCoy, Scott Walker, Lori Martin, Heather Dinges, Chris Stephens, Stacie Schlecht, Brad Smith, Brett Smith and many great nieces and nephews, and best friend Bill Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-law’s Dale and Mildred Smith and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Larry graduated from Newtown-Harris High School in 1965. He was drafted into the Army in April of 1966. He lived in Harris and Gladstone Missouri throughout his lifetime, working at Hallmark Cards before and after the Army and retiring after 37 years in 2002. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping with his father-in-law Dale Smith and best friend Bill Moore. Some of his most treasured memories were in Colorado elk hunting with family and friends and vacationing with his wife Linda, daughters and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing pool, pitch and various card games. He was an active member of the Gladstone Missouri Elks Lodge #2376. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He loved watching Westerns, any sort of military movies and his favorite TV Series NCIS and listening to country music. He also loved all of his hunting dogs, especially Kelly and his favorite grand-dog Jax.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri. Burial will follow at Judson Cemetery in Harris. A visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Bobby grew up, lived, and worked in the local communities of Winigan, Milan, and Browning MO. Bobby graduated high school from Milan C-1, class of 1951. He served his country during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 as a member of the U.S. Army. Bobby’s career was in education as a high school science teacher, principal, and counselor serving his students for 33 years full time and another 9 years part time, in various Missouri school systems including Linn County, Cainsville, Newtown-Harris, and Bosworth. Bobby and Barbara lived 23 years in Trenton before her death. Bobby remained there another 9 years before moving to Durham, North Carolina to be near their children.
Bobby enjoyed farming and taking care of his lawn, as well as working on his tractor and lawnmowers. He also liked visiting and keeping in touch with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 919, DAV Post 60, American Legion Post #31, All of Trenton, he also served as an officer for many years in all three organizations and served on the honor guard for several years.
Funeral services for Bobby will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City, Missouri. Burial will follow at Cheesman Cemetery, southeast of Green City. A visitation will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, 6 to 8pm, at the funeral home.

Virginia grew up in Adair County and for several years she was a switchboard operator at Northeast Regional Medical Center, she was hard working, well respected, and loved her job there. Virginia was an avid speed reader. She also loved nature, going on walks in the woods and in the snow. The last several years she spent with her best friend, Ronnie, laughing and enjoying life. Virginia was a loving Sister, Mother, and Friend.

Paul was born on the family farm in Mystic, Missouri to Lloyd and Ruth Geraldine (Ammerman) Kimmel. Paul married the love of his life, JoNell (Jody) Probasco on September 18, 1964 at the First Baptist Church in Unionville, Missouri.
Paul is survived by his wife JoNell (Jody) of 59 years; His children, Jana Couch and husband Clay of Green City, Michael Kimmel and wife Dana of LaPlata, Missouri, Jeffery Kimmel of The Lake of the Ozarks, and Gayla Kent and husband Tyler of Kirksville, Missouri; Grandchildren, Makenzie (Cody) Brundage, Trinity Couch (Logan), Lindsey Kimmel, Cassie Rodriguez (Jake), Morgan Hirner (Jake), Masen Kimmel, Hallie Kimmel, Ella Kent, Kyle Kent, and Kail Kent; 6 Great Grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Parrish and husband Roger of O’Fallon, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Nancy Probasco; sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Judy Sayre; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by: His parents; a brother, Kyle Kimmel; a niece, Trudy McClanahan; his mother and father-in-law, Edgar and Mildred Probasco; and two brothers-in-law.
Paul graduated from Green City R-I in the Class of 1963. He had just celebrated his 60th class reunion and he always enjoyed those class reunions. Paul took over the family farm in 1993 and lived there until moving to town in 2021 after selling the farm to his grandson, Masen Kimmel. The farm was a Century Farm and Paul was very proud that the farm has always stayed in the family since 1870.
Paul also worked for MO-DOT for 37 years, retiring in 2000 after making numerous lifelong friends. He then worked at Green City R-I and Milan C-II driving a school bus for several years.
Paul has served as the President of the Pleasantville Cemetery Board; he served as a board member for several boards in the community. Paul accepted Christ as His Savior in September 1964. Paul served as Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Green City for several years. He also helped with new additions to the church and served as Sunday School director and was a bus driver at church. Paul served as a board member for the Thousand Hills Baptist Association in Kirksville.

Obituary Preview: Robert “Bob” Eugene Slocum, 90 of Green Castle, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at his home.
Bob was born on February 15, 1933 in Hastings, Michigan to Garth and Evedene (Vander Molen) Slocum. On October 12, 1956 he married Velma Nance in Angola, Indiana. Bob worked for Eaton manufacturing in Hastings, Michigan for 30 years. After retirement he and Velma moved to Green Castle in 1995 to farm.
Bob is survived by two grandsons; Jesse Slocum and Jared Slocum, both of Michigan and one daughter in law; Mary Slocum of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Velma in 2015, and two sons; Ricky Slocum and Robert Slocum.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and was a two-time Missouri State Champion in trap shooting. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
A Visitation for Bob will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City, Missouri. An Elks service will begin following the visitation at 4:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners or to the Adair County Humane Society.

Obituary Preview: Octa Elizabeth Phillips, 100 years old, formerly of Green City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan.
Octa came into this world on the family farm in rural Sullivan County on February 5, 1923 to Virgil and Minnie (Thompson) Ayers. On October 25, 1941, she married James Lee (“Chigger”) Phillips, they were married for 72 years until his passing in 2013. She was also preceded by: two sisters, Crystal (Ernest) Darr and Gretchen Kent; and a brother, Coolidge (Tressa) Ayers.
Octa is survived by: One son, Robert and wife Marlene Phillips of Green City; Granddaughters, Cloe and husband Wade Billington of Salisbury, Missouri and Jessica Phillips and fiancé Quincy Neighbors of Kirksville, Missouri; Great Grandchildren, Kaylin and Finley Billington; a brother, McKinley and wife Elinor Ayers of Kirksville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and all her extended family and friends she made over the last few years at Sullivan County Long Term Care.
At the age of 17 Octa started teaching at one room schools, including Clearview and Thompson Schools. In 1958 she started teaching at Milan C-II, teaching for a total of 43 years. In 1965, she received her Master’s degree in Education at Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College. Octa also sold World Book Encyclopedia’s door-to-door and earned the title of Top Salesperson for the company in 1979, earning her family a trip to Hawaii. James and Octa also had a farm for many years, farming with horses they had 470 head of sheep, 100 head of cattle, pigs, and many chickens.
Octa was a devout member of the Green City United Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Missouri Teachers Association, and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association.
Funeral services for Octa will be held 3:30 PM, Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City. Burial will follow at the Green City Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service, starting at 2:30 PM, at the funeral home.

Also surviving are: Four children, Wade White and wife Maria of St. Louis, Missouri, Terry White and wife Debbie of Dearborn, Missouri, Melissa VanDusseldorp and husband Lee of Milan, and Daniel Sylvester of Milan; Grandchildren, Haleigh Hughes and husband Sam, Hunter White and wife Rachel, Andra Sylvester, Emily Sylvester (Glen Kitchen), Derrick Sylvester (Hannah Sherrow), Katlynn Sylvester, Addison Sylvester, Jordan Bartels, and Josh VanDusseldorp; Great Grandchildren, Colt Herzberg, Finley Sylvester, Pasley and Easton Kitchen, Autumn and Eli Hughes, and Summer White.
Maxine grew up in Canton, Missouri. In 1966 she moved to a small farm in Newtown, then moving to Milan in the late 1970’s. She worked for REC for 15+ Years. Maxine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Milan and sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed cooking, everything she cooked was from scratch, and she made the best cinnamon rolls and Apple Goodie. Maxine also enjoyed showing Quarter Horses when she was younger, loved to garden, and watch birds.
A funeral service for Maxine will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 AM.
