Rosemarie C. Vogini - November 05, 1930 - April 25, 2024

Departed: 04/25/2024 (Litchfield)
Obituary Preview: Devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
Rosemarie (Considine) Vogini, 93 of Harwinton, CT, formerly of Morris, CT passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 25, 2024. She was born November 5, 1930 in the Bronx, New York to the late Ambrose and Theresa (Wall) Considine. She was “a Depression baby” one of 11 siblings, growing up in the middle of eight brothers in addition to an elder sister and younger sister. Her father passed away when she was 11, her mother then worked very hard to support herself and their children.
Rose dropped out of school to go to work to help her mother. She was living on her own, working on Wall Street delivering dossiers when she met Walter Vogini and married him in 1951. They raised their family in Astoria, Queens until they decided to move to Morris, CT in 1969. They loved their new life in the country. Walter commuted to work at LaGuardia Airport in New York while Rose held the fort in Morris. Rose and Walter had a marriage of teamwork, humor, and respect for each other and each other’s individuality. They had many laughs, joking and dancing around the kitchen table after dinner over the years. Walter would often say “Rosie is my best friend.” They were married for 40 years.
They had both grown up in challenging circumstances, as Walter had lost his father when he was three and each of them had spent some time in orphanages. Those experiences inspired them to always have an open, generous, and welcoming home. They were always there for anyone in need. For their many different relatives over the years, family friends, neighbors, their children’s many friends and Fresh Air children.
Rosemarie especially enjoyed being a foster mom to over 30 infants waiting for adoption. The attending doctor at the time said “I try to send as many babies as I can to Mrs. Vogini, under her care they always come back so happy and healthy.” She also enjoyed being an AFS student mom to Id Pinyoluksana from Thailand and Kris Batens from Belgium.
As a mom she always emphasized being fair, kind, honest, doing the right thing and being of service. She loved animals and playing games with her children growing up. She loved to cook, garden and sew; making many of her children’s clothes. She loved to bake, especially her legendary Christmas cookie trays. She was a great cheerleader and lover of women’s basketball (Go Huskies!) She did all she could to support her youngest daughter’s high school basketball team; attending all the games, carpooling etc. She was an avid reader and problem solver. She had a wise, sensible and scientific mind. There were many discussions on how to fix things with Walter who was an aircraft mechanic during their customary afternoon tea time together.
Rose never let adversity get her down; she eventually acquired her GED, got a job in the loan department at the First National Bank in Litchfield, CT and continued working there for 10 years. After Walter sadly passed away in 1991, she retired and enjoyed going to the Morris Senior Center, the Harwinton and Torrington Senior Centers and made many dear friends there.
She loved to travel, including trips to Italy, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and a very memorable trip on the canal river boats in England with Walter and family. She also took many trips throughout the US with family and friends. She very much enjoyed helping to take care of her granddaughter Grayce Smith, having many fun times while her parents were working.
She was involved in many volunteer activities throughout her life, Girl Scout leader, election poll registrar, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital volunteer, Morris and Harwinton Senior Community Meals volunteer. She had many friends who appreciated her down-to-earth approach and fun-loving sense of humor.
She was very close to her youngest sister, Jo Ann. They were proud of their Irish heritage and being there for each other throughout life. “Ro and Jo” were like two peas in a pod. She was known and depended upon for her strength, determination, perseverance, steadiness and no-nonsense attitude towards life. She was always there to talk to, and always generous and devoted to her family. It made her happiest to see her family around her, her four girls; Debra Vogini of Peacham, VT, Janice Vogini of Granville, VT, Sira Vogini of Thomaston, CT, and Terina Smith of Harwinton, CT, her granddaughters, Grayce Smith of Farmington CT, and Phoebe Courtot of St. Johnsbury VT and great-granddaughter Fern DeLeo, her sons-in-law Bruce Courtot and Michael (Tootie) Smith, her sister Jo Ann Ash of Washington CT and her many nieces and nephews.
It brings all of us great sorrow to say goodbye. Rosemarie was much loved and will be sorely missed. We are forever grateful for knowing her in this life.

Doris G. Maitland - August 06, 1933 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Litchfield)
Obituary Preview: Doris Guillet Maitland passed away on April 19, 2024, a victim of Alzheimer’s disease. She was the oldest child of Roland and Beatrice (Cyr) Guillet, born in Waterbury, CT. Doris graduated from St. Anne’s elementary school and Waterbury Catholic High School. She then enrolled at Teacher’s College of Connecticut and graduated in 1955.
In that year she began her teaching career at Buck’s Hill School in Waterbury where she taught first grade for five years. Other jobs included Goshen Center School, St. Anne’s School, and Bethlehem Consolidated School. Doris then taught at Plymouth Center School. She retired in 1989 with 30 years of service. Although she seldom mentioned it she was very proud that she had taught more than five hundred first graders to read.
While Doris was in college she met her future husband, David Maitland. They were married in 1957. During the next seven years they had four sons and built a home in Morris, Connecticut where they lived for 35 years. Both teachers they had the same winter vacations; beginning around 1970, they tried to get to a sunny beach in February, usually in the Caribbean or Mexico. Summers were also great for travel. Their first big trip was in 1971; they spent six weeks in Europe, touring in a VW Bus with their four boys and Doris’s mother; travel was an important part of their lives. They visited five continents, missing only Australia and Antarctica. Two outstanding trips were rafting through the Grand Canyon and a safari in Kenya.
Doris had many interests. She loved the theatre and ballet and frequently attended both. She was talented in arts and crafts. Her gardens were things of beauty and the vegetables she raised were delicious. She took classes in ballet, yoga, Pilates, and in her seventies scared her family when she demonstrated what she had learned in kick boxing. She loved to hike and climbed Mt. Washington. In her eighties she would walk almost every day, 3 miles in 45 minutes.
Although she was not a big fan of ball games she attended soccer, basketball, and baseball games when her sons and grandchildren were playing. She did become an avid wrestling fan when two of her sons were wrestling.
When Doris retired much of her time was committed in two areas. She was a spiritual person; she had always wanted to attend mass daily and now she had more time. She also became active in church affairs and became an extraordinary minister. When she moved from Morris in 1996 her focus switched to Lourdes Shrine. Doris volunteered there for the next 20 years, changing beds, and doing laundry at “the Big House” and preparing food in the cafeteria. If anything was needed the Shrine knew it could count on Doris.
Nearly an equal amount of her time was spent trying to bring her brother home. Andre Guilett was a combat controller shot down over Laos in 1967; he is still Missing in Action. Doris was active in the Connecticut Forget-Me-Nots and the National League of Families of Prisoners of War and Missing in Action in Southeast Asia. She served as Connecticut coordinator for that group and was also involved in the VFW’s attempt to “Bring Them Home.” Doris attended vigils all over the state and became an effective public speaker as an advocate for veteran’s affairs.
Doris was supported in all her endeavors by her family. Her sister Lillian Beauvilliers was her best friend and travel companion with her husband, John. Four sons survive her: David and his wife Pat, Jaime, Peter and his wife Gina, and Richard and his friend Mary Moore. She loved and took care of her grandchildren and is survived by Ryan, Melissa and husband Jake Tufano, AJ, and Amanda and her husband Andrew Gatewood. Her great grandchildren are Lennox Tufano and Maxwell Gatewood. She will always be remembered and loved by her husband of almost 67 years David Maitland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Lourdes Shrine, 83 Montfort Rd, Litchfield. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours.
Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Lourdes Shrine or Connecticut Forget-Me-Nots.

Marie H. Wallace - January 27, 1926 - April 08, 2024

Departed: 04/08/2024 (Litchfield)
Obituary Preview: Marie Hickey Wallace (née Grace Marie Hickey), 98, passed away peacefully at her home in Litchfield, CT on April 8, 2024, with her children by her side. She was the daughter of James Walter Hickey and Grace Murphy Hickey of West Hartford, CT. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Wallace, Jr., D.V.M. and her brother, James Gregory Hickey.
Marie was born in Hartford, CT on January 27, 1926, and raised in West Hartford. She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy and received a B.A. in Economics from Connecticut College for Women in New London, CT, now Connecticut College. Upon her graduation she entered a career as a group health Underwriter and Account Specialist at the former Connecticut General Insurance Company.
In 1955 Marie married Edward F. Wallace, Jr., D.V.M., her husband of 40 years, and moved to Litchfield where Dr. Wallace had established a veterinary practice in 1953. Over the next seven decades Marie raised a family, helped manage her husband’s practice, forged lifelong friendships, and invested herself in a myriad of community and civic organizations in support of the town of Litchfield and its residents.
In 2001 Marie was awarded an inaugural Public Service Award from the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s office in recognition of over 25 years of commitment to serving her community. Her early volunteer pursuits included Cub Scout and Brownie troop leader for her young children, volunteer “Tiny Tots” swim instructor at the Torrington YMCA, CYO instructor, founding organizer of Litchfield High School’s College Night, Home Selection Committee member for the American Field Service, New York Times Fresh Air Children’s Project coordinator, Docent and public relations Chair for the Litchfield Historical Society, and Literacy Volunteer/ESL teacher.
As her children matured and moved into their adult lives, Marie’s civic and political involvements broadened. A longstanding member and past President of the League of Women Voters in Litchfield, she became a Regional Director of the League’s Connecticut Board and editor of the League’s VOTER publication. In a 2004 interview for the Litchfield Enquirer Marie noted, “The goal of the League is to make people aware that it is their duty to be involved in their government, and to help them understand and be informed about the issues.” She believed fervently in the importance of voter education and engagement, and her faith in the democratic process never flagged. Marie went on to serve as Litchfield’s Registrar of Voters for many years and was a fixture at the polling place for local referenda, town, state, and federal elections. At the same time, she was unapologetically political and was a member of the Litchfield Democratic Town Committee for decades.
Marie loved the town of Litchfield and worked in numerous channels to support its residents and to help preserve its unique beauty and character. She served several terms on the Litchfield Planning and Zoning Commission beginning in 1999. She served as Secretary, Litchfield Aid of the Connecticut Junior Republic, and was a member of the CJR Board’s Finance Committee. She was a Director of the McCall Foundation. Countless couples met Marie in her role as a Justice of the Peace in Litchfield for over 40 years. Finally, Marie supported for decades and served as a Director of the Litchfield Community Services Fund, advocating for less fortunate members of the community. She leaves a rich legacy of compassion and service to her community.
Apart from her public life, Marie enjoyed spending time with friends and hosted a regular lunch group until late in her life. She loved to travel and remembered fondly her times with Ed touring the English countryside, visiting her daughter living in France, and a late ‘90’s trip to Paris in the company of her daughter-in-law and two young granddaughters at the time. She had a special place in her heart for Martha’s Vineyard in the fall where she and Ed made their way many years to fish, share the wonders of Wasque Beach, and celebrate their anniversary. Summers were her favorite season, however. Marie spent many years with children in tow lakeside at Mt. Tom. In her later years, at home, she loved nothing more than to relax by her pool (where she swam laps well into her 80s), read, and solve the New York Times Sunday crossword. Marie’s greatest joy though was family--her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She spanned generations, took pride in her family’s history, and embodied hope for its future.
Marie is survived by her sons Michael E. Wallace and John J. Wallace (Kathleen Lyons Wallace), her daughters Susan Wallace Lane, M.D. (Andrew H. Lane, M.D.) and Jamie A. Wallace (Franklin W. Fessenden), her grandchildren Caitlin Marie Wallace (Michael McMaster), Norah Suzanne Wallace (Connor Maher), Henry Wallace Lane, Theodore Campbell Lane, Matthew James Lane, and Grace Clara Fessenden, and her great-grandchild Riley Lyons McMaster.

She was a voracious reader of mystery novels (and a member of the Morris Public Library mystery book club), and a fan of tap dance, Godzilla movies, Power Rangers, Paw Patrol and Hess trucks. She decorated her home for every holiday, from top to bottom, and always made at least ten varieties of Christmas cookies. She enjoyed spending two weeks every summer in Cape Cod. Her homemade jam was locally beloved back in NY, and frequently gifted to family and friends. Her children’s friends were informally ‘adopted’ into the household, and Ginny made sure their college roommates received the same advent gifts and finals-week treats she was sending her own daughters. She treated strangers like friends, and friends like family. She will be greatly missed by many.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 50 years, Denis Williamson; her younger sister Varina Wilson Kowalik, who called her every day for the last 15 years; her daughters Emily Williamson Boggio and Amanda Williamson Oglivie and their husbands; and four grandchildren, ages 7, 4, 3 and 2, who will miss their Paw Patrol viewing buddy, “Grammy.” She also leaves four nieces, one nephew, and several great nieces and nephews, who enjoyed her annual Easter gatherings.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Christopher John Adams - November 30, 1968 - March 13, 2024

Departed: 03/13/2024 (Litchfield)
Obituary Preview: Christopher Adams, 55, passed away peacefully in his home March 13th, 2024. Born November 30th, 1968, to parents John and Patricia Adams, Chris was a lifelong resident of Morris, graduated from Wamogo Highschool and went on to complete a bachelor's degree in English at UCONN. He was an entrepreneur and aspiring content creator.
How does one go about describing someone like Chris? To say he was loved by his family and friends is surely an understatement, and to describe his love for them in return seems impossible. Generosity, positivity, empathy, kindness; there aren’t enough words in the dictionary to do him any justice, it seems. Regardless, the impact he made on this earth rivals that of history’s greatest heroes.
In 2020 Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer with a lamentably grim prognosis. But having far too many engagements (friends to visit, dogs to walk, hikes to take, pub trivia to attend, cats to cuddle, and comics to collect) he decided survival was the only course of action. After all, how would the already fat raccoons in his yard get their daily junk food fix? Certainly not from the garbage cans. Who would carry on the tradition of feeding homemade nectar to the hummingbirds he and his mother began so many years ago? And were his keys supposed to just misplace themselves? Upon whose clothes would his cats now generously deposit their discarded hair? Who would leave the accumulative list of to-dos continuously not done? No, dying simply wouldn’t do, and so Chris lived. And he lived fully, prosperously, unapologetically.
A fierce protector of all living things, his animal and human companions alike could rest easy knowing Chris was only a phone call away. Wherever there was trouble, wherever there was need, Chris would appear. It’s ironic considering the myriad comic book superheroes he cherished, he never realized he was one himself. If a lovingly tattered black coat counts as a cape and carrying everything but the kitchen sink in his cargo pant pockets is a suitable substitution for a utility belt, then consider him Batman.
When Chris wasn’t busy saving the world, he was sweetly savoring time with friends and family, reveling in the nourishment of nature, sharing stories of strength and inspiration on TikTok, and unashamedly spoiling his cats. And everyone else’s cats. And dogs. And whatever other four legged, eight legged, no legged, furry, feathery, scaley creature he could shower with love.
No doubt Chris’s passing has left an unfillable hole in our hearts. But we move forward, carrying with us the many ways in which he touched our lives. With every moment we choose to live life to its fullest, we honor his memory. It can be said with certainty that Chris would want us to be kind to each other, be kind to ourselves, be kind to animals, and find peace.
Chris is predeceased by his father John, and is survived by his mother Patricia, his wife Cody, sister-in-law Angelina and parents-in-law Roger and Ruth Carillo, as well as his beloved cats Basil, Leopold, and Oscar.

Richard Scott Parrish - September 14, 1943 - January 30, 2024

Departed: 01/30/2024 (Litchfield)
Obituary Preview: Richard Scott Parrish, 80, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 30, while exercising at a local fitness center. That just doesn’t seem right. He would be very annoyed by the timing of his death, as is his family, since we all expected him to be with us well into his 90’s.
Scott was born in Virginia to M. Holman and Willie Mae Parrish. His early life was spent in Richmond where he was very active in local athletics. He was a proud Air Force veteran and quietly supported various veteran causes throughout his life.
Scott deeply loved his family. He believed that his role as a father was to teach his children to be responsible and resilient adults. He succeeded and was exceptionally proud of each of them. He also instilled in them the fine art of being competitive and loved a good round of golf with family and friends followed by a cigar or whisky, or both. We teased him for having a gruff exterior when we all knew he was a sentimental softie on the inside and he was always the port in a storm whenever any in his family needed him.
We will miss him dearly.
Scott is survived by his wife Janet and his children R. Scott Parrish, Jr. and his wife Kristina, (Andover MA), Michelle Parrish (Branford CT) and Kelley Hutton (Burlington CT). He was Papa to four grandchildren Madeline, Charles and Jacob Parrish as well as Amelie Hutton, with whom he enjoyed daily snuggles, kisses and hugs and a very special bond.
He is also survived by two sisters, Alice Spain and Judy Knight, both of whom reside in Virginia.
At his direction, there are no formal services planned. A celebration of Scott’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
