Departed: 05/07/2024 (Atlantic City)
Obituary Preview: Dr Andrew Jeffrey Lischin, 68, of West Atlantic City, NJ and Bradenton, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by love on 07 May, 2024. Born in Margate, NJ to Richard and Florence (Levine) Lischin, he was the older brother to his sister, Susan. Andrew was raised in a close-knit family and learned early on that you should always strive to do your best and work hard, with
honesty and integrity. He was an excellent student, attending Margate schools and graduating with highest honors from Atlantic City High School, Class of 1974. At an early age, he discovered a love for animals and his desire to become a veterinarian never
wavered. He attended and excelled at Cook College, Rutgers University and went on to attend Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine obtaining his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1982. After graduating, he returned to the Atlantic City area where he successfully established and operated three thriving veterinary clinics. Andrew loved “all creatures great and small” and worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of all animals, providing excellent care and kindness to all pets and their owners He was the first veterinarian to implement the very successful charitable program “Pet Pictures with Santa” and his dad Richard played an excellent Santa. Andrew’s commitment to family was very important to him and he took great care to ensure the happiness and well-being of his father Richard and his mother Florence throughout their lives. He was the trusted big brother to his sister Susan
and loving uncle to his nephew, Kevin. Andrew met Katie Gifford later in his life and they enjoyed many happy times together, along with her daughters, Amanda and Elizabeth. A devoted cat lover, Andrew had many feline friends keeping him company throughout his life.
Andrew had a great love of Florida and his time spent in Bradenton, FL with his fiancé Katie and his feline companion Mr. Blackie brought him great joy. Floating in the warm waters of the Gulf or watching a sunset, he was in his happy place. Andrew had a passion for experiences and enjoyed many interests. His life-long love of running began in high school with cross country, and he went on to run countless races, including marathons in NY, Phila, and AC. He was an avid sports fan of all the Philly teams and was there to cheer on the victorious Phillies during the 2008 World Series and to see the heartbreaking defeat of the 2023 Eagles. He was an active member of the Beth Israel Synagogue, the Purdue Veterinary Alumni Assn, the Republican Club, many veterinary associations, and the Astronomy Club. One of his most awe-inspiring experiences was witnessing the total eclipse of the sun. With his wide knowledge and excellent memory, one of his favorite past times with his friends was Quizzo nights at the Vagabond AC and
at Villian and Saint, Ocean Casino Resort, where his team was often victorious. After retiring, Andrew was kept busy pursuing his passions and volunteering his time and expertise at many veterinary clinics and shelters, and to helping family and friends with their pet concerns. He was never too busy to share his knowledge and help a pet. His great wit, intelligence, kindness, courageous spirit and passion for life will be sorely missed. It is said “They are never gone as long as they are remembered”. His absence creates a tremendous emptiness in our hearts, and he will forever be
remembered with unending love.
Andrew is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Florence (Levine) Lischin. He is survived by his sister Susan (Peter) DePhillips; his nephew, Kevin DePhillips; his fiancé, Katie Gifford and her daughters Amanda (Ben) Cook and Elizabeth Gifford; his aunt and uncle Loretta and Carl Heiden, aunts Eleanor Levine and Nira Levine; and several cousins and many dear friends whom he considered family.

Betty Simon - March 07, 1933 - March 16, 2024

Departed: 03/16/2024 (Atlantic City)
Obituary Preview: Betty Simon (nee Lifshin), 90, of Ventnor and formerly Margate, NJ passed away on March 16, 2024.
Betty, a Holocaust survivor born in 1933, was the youngest of the eleven children of Jacob and Rachel Lifshin of Kazsian, Belarus. Betty’s mother, Rachel, died when Betty was only a year and a half old, and she never even saw a picture of her. In 1939 the Nazis created a ghetto in her hometown which they subsequently liquidated, transferring all the Jews to a larger ghetto. Betty was a prisoner in the large ghetto for one and a half years and was always hungry and forced to work very hard for just a small piece of bread.
In 1941, Jacob, her father realized that the entire family would be killed, he devised a plan to save his two daughters’, Betty and Nechama. Jacob contacted a very good religious and good Catholic friend, Voyzche Gintaiv, who promised to take care of Jacob’s two daughters. Betty and her sister were instructed to dress as “non-Jewish” and to escape from the ghetto. Following their escape, Voyzche Gintaiv picked the girls up and settled them in his barn. A week after their escape, Voyzche was murdered by the Nazis while trying to save more Jews from the ghetto. After the murder of Jacob’s friend, Betty’s brothers, who were hiding in the forest took Betty and Nechama to be reunited with the rest of the family, all remaining in hiding in the forest for two and a half years. She slept in snow, with hardly any food, no shoes, and very little clothes, wishing that if she were an animal she would have an easier time to survive.
Soon after the war ended, her father, Jacob contracted cancer and died. Betty and her sister went to a Displaced Person’s Camp in Austria with her brothers. Then in 1948, in the DP Camp, she met Richard Simon, her future husband who was on his way to the United States with his family. Betty was eventually making it to the United States via a Children’s Home Program and was placed in an orphanage in Boston. Richard, who had been living in Baltimore with his family, picked up Betty in Boston and married her in 1950 at the age of seventeen. Betty and Richard moved to Pleasantville and operated a chicken farm for a few years and after not being happy about the egg business, got into Real Estate and became very successful in the land business and started J&M Land Co, in 1956. Betty and Richard were involved in many Jewish and non-Jewish philanthropic causes in Atlantic County, North Jersey, and New York throughout their lives.
Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard Simon, her son Jake Simon (2014) and her great granddaughter Morgan Simon. She is survived by her three loving daughters and son in laws, Marsha and Herman Zell, Renee and Joseph Wolfson and Valarie and Jeff Alper. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Ellen Simon.
Betty will be missed by her devoted grandchildren, Farah and Michael Burns, Sandra Zell, Samuel and Lauren Zell, Jill and Mikhael Trocki-Videll, Samuel and Stephanie Simon, Charna and Alan Vernovsky, William Wolfson, Jennifer Wolfson, Heather Alper, and Luke Alper.
She will also be missed by her precious twelve great grandchildren, Mayla, Reed and Archer Burns,Richard, Jack and George Neustadter, Emilia and Ryan Zell, Yale and Jade Trocki-Videll, Richard Simon, and Ivy Vernovsky.
Betty is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in Israel and throughout the United States. We will all miss her.

Obituary Preview: Louis Michael Capecci, MD, originally of Linwood, NJ, died on March 11, 2024, at 40 years old in Honolulu, Hawaii leaving behind a loving family and community devastated by the loss of such an amazing father, husband, physician, and friend.
Serving as the only Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon in a 2,000 mile radius for Pacific Islanders, Louis dedicated his life to performing corrective surgeries on infants, children, and adults. From the tenderest of hearts to the most complex cases, his unwavering commitment to saving childrens’ lives was evident from an early age, as he knew he wanted to be a doctor even as a young child. This calling grew out of his own experiences receiving life saving corrective heart surgeries as a newborn.
Louis and Miriam’s enduring love story began in high school. They were about to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring bond. Together, they were raising two remarkable daughters: Grey (8) and Isla (2). In a beautiful twist of fate, Isla and Louis shared the same birthday; a cosmic alignment that brought tremendous joy to their family.
Beyond the operating room, Louis was a beacon of love and kindness. His impact extended far beyond the hospital walls; wherever he went, he left a trail of compassion and healing. Patients and colleagues alike admired his skill, but it was his warmth and empathy that truly set him apart.

Dr. Louis M. Capecci was Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University, working at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, Hawaii for the past two years. He developed a new department saving many babies' and childrens' lives born with congenital heart disease.

Bridget Lynn Marie Yamron - May 30, 1945 - March 04, 2024

Departed: 03/04/2024 (Atlantic City)
Obituary Preview: Bridget Lynn Marie Yamron was born May 30, 1945, and passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024 at the age of 78. She was surrounded by her entire family in the days leading up to her farewell. Bridget is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Yamron, who was devoted to her beyond years and words. Their love story spanned 46 years and brought along two daughters and a son in law whom she adored, Christie and David Rovinsky and Courtney Hirsch. Bridget spent the majority of the past 10 years with her 5 grandchildren, Ruby, Xander, Everly, Nate and Zach. There was nothing more important to Bridget than her family and she fought hard much of the last decade to be here with them. No matter the health struggles she faced, she did it with Grit and Grace and a true appreciation for life, love and family. Bridget was most known for her bubbly personality, her ever present smile and being the life of the party. There was not a person in the world who did not feel loved when with her.
Bridget was born in Bristol, Pennsylvania to Josephine and James Dugan and is the beloved sister to Mike and Chris Dugan and her departed sister Josephine Larson. Following high school graduation, Bridget went on to open three successful hair salons in Pennsylvania and New Jersey where everyone knew they could come for a good cut and a good time. It was at a Cut Above that Bridget met Bruce in 1977. To say opposites attract was an understatement. They were married 9 months later and began their life together in Margate, NJ. They moved to Naples, Fl in 1984 where they raised their daughters, but Margate was always home, and they continued to spend their summers there. Over 46 years, Bridget and Bruce travelled the world together. There were too many adventures to count but they were lucky to have so many of these memories with lifelong friends. They were not just husband and wife, they were best friends who truly loved each other. Bridget was very involved in their daughters lives and schooling. If there was a volunteer position, she was always first in line. She spent countless hours reading with her girls and teaching them about perseverance and persistence. The most valuable lessons she taught her family was to not sweat the small things and to love each other unconditionally. Bridget also raised her children to appreciate her and her husband’s passion for philanthropy as it was a big part of their life together. There were many causes near to Bridget’s heart but none more so than Williams Syndrome which her youngest granddaughter, Everly, was diagnosed with 7 years ago. As with any challenge that happens in life, Bridget had a way of making things brighter and turning even the hardest of moments into sunshine. In knowing that, there would be no greater way to honor her life than a donation to the Williams Syndrome Association. https://wsinfo.org/BridgetYamron ( Please highlight this link and right click, choose the option that will you to the site)
Immediately following the service Family and friends are invited to a luncheon In Bridget’s memory at Steve and Cookies 9700 Amherst Avenue, Margate, NJ 08402.
Shiva will be observed at 6:00pm at her late residence.

Stanford Alten - July 17, 1941 - February 14, 2024

Departed: 02/14/2024 (Atlantic City)
Obituary Preview: Stanford Alten left this world on February 14, 2024 at age 82. He was born and raised in Atlantic City to Ben and Dinah Alten along with his brothers, Alan and Steven, and his close extended family.
Stan was a lifelong fisherman, ran daily, was a big fan of high-school sports, and loved music. His sons recall riding in the car listening to all the rock and soul music of the day, especially the Band, the Grateful Dead, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and Bruce. Stan’s father, who owned the Club Harlem, no doubt contributed to his appreciation of the music.
Stan was also a serial entrepreneur. He built wholesale and retail businesses, where he employed friends, family, and every kid in the neighborhood. He loved business, but he was always a salesman at heart.
He loved his wife, Sue, since the moment they met at a house party while attending Atlantic City High School. Sue only agreed to date him, however, after she confirmed that he could dance, and could he ever. He was even invited to dance on American Bandstand when the show came to Atlantic City. Together they raised two sons, Brett and Brian, who he was very proud of.
Most of all, Stan will be remembered as a great guy — one whose warmth and sense of humor will always be cherished. He connected effortlessly with everyone, including his highschool friends, his neighbors, his business partners, random acquaintances, and of course his family.
Stan (also known as Dad, Pop Pop, Stosh, and Stan the Man), is survived by beloved wife Suzanne Alten, brother Steven Alten and wife Holly, sons Brett and Brian and wives Tomoko and Stacey, and grandchildren Mayu, Skyler, Ayaka, Kenta, and Lindsay, as well as his many friends. Stanford Alten will be forever loved and missed by everyone who was lucky enough to get to know him.
Contributions in Stan’s memory can be made to oceancleanup.com a cause he cared deeply about.

Eleanor Besnoff Peikin Blumenthal - February 29, 1920 - January 20, 2024

Departed: 01/20/2024 (Atlantic City)
Obituary Preview: Eleanor Besnoff Peikin Blumenthal February 29, 1920 – January 20, 2024
Eleanor ("Ellie") Blumenthal was born a Leap Year baby on the south side of Philadelphia in 1920 and moved to the Inlet section of Atlantic City in 1933. Her older brother Teddy always watched out for her. After graduating Girls Vocational School in Atlantic City at 16, Ellie became a beautician at the Peter Pan Beauty Salon helping to support the family. She worked as a hairdresser for 35 years.
Ellie married Atlantic City local Norman Peikin in 1941, who she met dancing to “Stardust” by Hoagy Carmichael.
In 1973, the single mom and caretaker of her parents married Ventnor resident, Martin “Marty” Blumenthal, who was Norman’s best friend since the early 1930’s! She and Marty worked at Bally’s Casino in the early 1980’s; enjoyed time with family and fishing on the El Mar in the back bays; and of course, playing slots at the “new” casinos. Martin passed away in 2003. Since then, Ellie has lived a fiercely independent life on her own in Egg Harbor Township.
Living at the Shore, the impeccably dressed 4’ 9” dynamo enjoyed the beach and the boardwalk. She remembers how much fun it was to live in the AC area because there was so much to do and see, especially during the 40’s and 50’s. Recently Ellie recalled how she and Norm saw Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin perform at the 500 Club, way before they became international superstars.
In her 90’s on multiple occasions, she walked all fifteen blocks of the Ocean City street fair. At 98, Ellie walked all FIVE MILES of the Ocean City boardwalk "March for the Cure" breast cancer fund raiser. Ellie liked to say, "Age is just a number and mine is unlisted". Her secret? Perhaps it was her penchant for South Jersey Cheesesteaks with fried onions and hot peppers or Tastykakes and ice cream... though her mantra is always, "Everything in moderation". The trick is, she continued, "I just don't stop doing!" But the REAL secret to her longevity is that she was blessed with the love of grand kids, great grand kids and an abundance of doting family members and friends.
The Philly-born native stayed sharp watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune every day, so much so that Alex Trebeck, Pat and Vanna sent her signed pictures for her 100th birthday.
The family is grateful to the Egg Harbor Township Senior Center who kept Ellie busy for many years with bingo, meals, and socializing. There she met and made so many friends. On her 100th birthday, the JCC Katz-managed center threw her an amazing luncheon complete with a singing “Elvis,” presentation by the local mayor of an American flag that had been flown over the White House, and gifts from all the local businesses including from her favorite store, Boscov’s in Egg Harbor Township.
Ellie loved her Casino visits, cleaning the banks at the Blackjack tables! When her daughter in law’s parents were in town, the “Three Musketeers” (as Ida Stefani would call them), multiple visits to the Ocean and the Tropicana were always in the cards! She always looked forward to her Sunday breakfasts at Denny’s with Roberta. At a recent party last November for brother-in-law Ron Feldbaum’s 90th birthday, Ellie was able to enjoy dinner at the Atlantic City Country Club surrounded by Ron’s doting daughters Miriam, Merle, and Mindy; daughter in law Roberta and sister Sally Stieska. Said Merle: “Eleanor was so special to me and my family. We were blessed to have her for so long. She was upbeat, positive, and seeing her just lifted us up. She inspired my mom and was such a touchstone to my dad. I know I learned so much from her stories and memories and her take on family. . . Her memory will always be a blessing.”
Ellie is survived by her son Terry Peikin, wife Diane Stefani; grandson Todd Peikin, wife Suzanne and great grandson AJ; and stepfamily who included daughter Shelly Blumenthal, grandsons Joe and Richard Falls, great grandson Max River and great granddaughter Eleanor; daughter-in-law Roberta Blumenthal, granddaughters Sara Blumenthal and Laura Siteman, husband Doug, great grandchildren Andrew and Rebecca. Ellie was pre-deceased by parents Rose and Philip Besnoff; brother Ted Besnoff and wife Bessie, first husband Norman Peikin, second husband Martin Blumenthal, beloved son Joel Peikin, and stepson Larry Blumenthal.

Robin Starbecker - October 31, 1958 - January 10, 2024

Departed: 01/10/2024 (Atlantic City)
Obituary Preview: Robin Starbecker was and will forever be a woman who carved her own path with conviction. From her early years, Robin held strongly to her passions: her friends, her music, her dog, astrology, and her deep deep love for her home — the beach.
Robin had an affinity for music like no one else. Though the other members in her family were rhythmically challenged, Robin fostered her love of guitar since childhood. She was as committed to playing music as she was to hearing it, and her all-time favorite was her hero, Joni Mitchell.
Robin’s love for Joni Mitchell was only paralleled by her deep love for English Sheepdogs. Anyone who knew Robin has heard stories about all her sheepdogs, living and past. She cared for those dogs the best way she knew, feeding them her own human food, ensuring they always had company, and by giving them all her time and love.
Though Robin had been facing severe medical challenges for quite some time, in her last days, Robin expressed her desire for continued life. She endured pain, but never showed it. Robin passed away with the same strength she lived — the silent kind, the kind that you might not notice unless you were looking carefully. This was Robin in a nutshell: someone who endured, despite challenges, and remained committed to the ones she loved.
Robin leaves behind her sister, Jodi Starbecker, and two nieces, Hannah and Meagan Goodfriend. Her beloved dog, Pearl, will be cared for by a close family friend and dog-lover. Her legacy will live on through those she has touched with her life and her love.
Family and friends are invited to a Graveside Service on Sunday, January 14, 2024,12:00pm, at Rodef Sholom Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township, New jersey 08234.
Contributions in her memory may be made to any Animal Rescue Organization.

Stanley M Berk - March 14, 1931 - January 04, 2024

Departed: 01/04/2024 (Atlantic City)
Obituary Preview: Stanley Berk passed on January 4, 2024 at the age of 92. He passed away gently, as he was a gentle and sweet man. His last days were spent comfortably in his home, surrounded by close family – including his devoted son and caregiver, Daniel, sister-in-law, Janie, and the love of his life, best friend, closest companion and wife of 64 years, Margie.
A life-long resident of Absecon island, Stanley was born to Celia and Solomon Berkovitz on March 14, 1931. He graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1948 and attended Lehigh University. Following his service in the army, Stanley joined his father in the family business, which later became “Berk’s on the Boardwalk” in Atlantic City, back in the boardwalk’s heyday. After 25 years at Berk’s, he became a part of his wife’s family business, Soltz Paint Store, until his well-deserved retirement in 2000.
Retirement didn’t slow Stanley down. During this next chapter of his life, he enjoyed multiple cross-country trips with his Margie, loved frequent golfing at Linwood Country Club with good friends, and spent cherished time with grandchildren and his younger generation of nieces and nephews. He even took pride in helping to gift-wrap at his sister-in-law’s store, Paper Chase.
Stanley believed and adhered to the principles of a life lived with honesty, generosity, compassion, commitment to hard work and a tireless devotion to his family. His was a life well lived.
Just as the names “Marge and Stan” always went together, so, too, did they. They were rarely apart, and they shared a tender, deep and true love, often only read about in fairytales. Stanley loved everything about Marge – and she, him - and when once asked what the secret to a long life was, he immediately pointed to her. Theirs was a genuine, endless love affair. They built a beautiful home together over the years, filled with warmth, love and laughter. Stanley loved nothing more than taking quick dips in the ocean on Clarendon Avenue, singing old songs, sharing stories of the past, jokes from the paint store, and using and teaching those around him unique Yiddish expressions. Most of all, he reveled in every moment spent with those closest to him.
Stanley is survived by his soulmate, Margie; his loving sons, Daniel Berk and Rudy Berk (Sharon); three cherished grandchildren, Max Berk-Wakeman and Lucille and Fiona Berk; sister-in-law Janie Feldman; brother-in-law David Soltz (Debby), and many close nieces, nephews, and cousins. Stanley was pre-decreased by his beloved daughter, Sally Ann; his parents, Celia and Solomon Berkovitz; his brother, Herbert Berkovitz; and his sister, Florence Lippman (Dr. Nathan Lippman).
