Hildred really loved her family and spending time with them. She also loved to dance, play cards, and if she wasn’t playing cards or dancing with her husband or friends, she was knitting or crocheting her famous dish cloths for family and friends. She was always willing to help anyone, if she was able. She was a member of the Dannemora Catholic Daughters. She held different jobs over her lifetime, but her last one was working in the cafeteria at Northern Adirondack Central School where she was the friendly face that students saw when they went to the cafeteria.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It serves as a way to share the news of someone's passing with friends, family, and the community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a crucial role in honoring the deceased, providing closure for loved ones, and serving as a historical record of a person's life. They also help to notify others of the person's passing and provide details about funeral services or memorial events.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, family members or close friends of the deceased write an obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary or provide guidance on what information to include.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary typically includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services or memorial events.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful for those who knew the deceased.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and any specific requirements they may have. You may need to provide the written obituary, along with payment for publication.

Can I publish an obituary online?

Yes, there are many online platforms that allow you to publish an obituary, such as Legacy.com, Tributes.com, or FuneralHomes.com. These websites often offer templates and guidance to help you create an obituary.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or online platform. Newspaper obituaries can range from $50 to several hundred dollars, while online platforms may offer free or low-cost options.

What is the difference between a death notice and an obituary?

A death notice is a concise announcement of someone's passing, while an obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Can I write my own obituary?

Is it appropriate to include humorous anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the deceased. Including lighthearted stories or humorous anecdotes can help celebrate their life and bring comfort to those who are grieving.

Can I include charitable donations in lieu of flowers in an obituary?

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive details about the deceased's life that you're unsure about sharing publicly, consider consulting with family members or close friends before including them in the obituary.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary?
