Obituary Preview: Laura June Krick age 79 of Sturgis, Michigan, passed away early Monday morning May 13, 2024, at her home.
She was born August 4, 1944, in Sturgis, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Ann (Halsey) Kelly.
Laura resided most of her life in the Sturgis area except for the 21 years she lived in Goodrich, Michigan. She was a graduate of Brighton High School in Brighton, Indiana with the class of 1963. She furthered her education at Mott Community College in Flint where she earned a degree in Early Education.
On November 22, 1964, she married Richard Krick in LaGrange, Indiana.
She owned and operated Craftique Corner in Sturgis for several years. She taught painting and worked at the Sturgis Journal. While living in Goodrich she was very involved in the school system where she participated in the before and after school program and taught painting in the school system.
Laura was a longtime very active member of the Sturgis Wesleyan Church, now known as Radiant Life Church, where she founded the Children’s Program. She was also a former member of the Sturgis Bible Chapel where she was very active with the youth and women’s groups. Laura was instrumental in establishing the Tole Painting Society of Michigan.
She enjoyed her flower gardens and watching her birds. Her passion was painting and teaching others her crafts. She was proud of the fact that she taught five of her great grandchildren to paint. Laura’s true greatest joy in life was serving others.
She is survived by her loving husband: Richard; daughter: Machelle (Ken) Stockwell of Bradenton, Florida; son: Michael (JoAnn) Krick of Sturgis; grandchildren: Bob (Amanda) Grove, James Grove, Amanda (Rob) Boyer, Ashley (Jeremy) Cencer and Andrew (Riley) Krick; great grandchildren: Tom, Joe, Josh, Phil, Makayla, Elizabeth, Amelia, Melanie and Elisha; sisters: Joan Hawkins of Elkhart, Indiana and Susan (Ed) James of Trinidad; brother: John (Georgia) Kelly of Elkhart, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Matthew Aaron Krick; great grandson: Austin Krick and brothers: Robert Kelly and Bill Kelly.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, May 17th at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Laura June Krick will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 18th the Rev. Ryan Bibb of Radiant Life Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Pretty Prairie Cemetery in rural Howe, Indiana.

Obituary Preview: Frederick J. Good, age 85, of LaGrange, IN passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.
He was born March 5, 1939 in Battle Creek, MI a son to the late Carl J. and Leta R. (Palmateer) Good.
On March 15, 1959 in Bronson, MI he married Norma Metzger and they resided in Bronson, MI until 1987 when they moved to LaGrange, IN.
Frederick had been employed by Morgan Olson in Sturgis for 30 years and also at Lakepark Industries in Shipshewana where he retired in July 2004.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and camping.
Surviving are his wife: Norma; 3 sons: Ora (Lesia) Good of Coldwater, MI, David (Rhonda) Good of Bronson, MI, and Richard (Penny) Good of Angola, IN; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Velma Bassler of Grand Rapids, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Larry J. Good in Nov. 2000, stepfather: Orville “Corky” Thomas, one brother: Francis Good, and several great-grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: David Alan Freeland age 68 of Sturgis, Michigan, passed away Wednesday morning April 10, 2024, at his home following brave battle with cancer.
He was born July 1, 1955, in Sturgis, Michigan, son of C. Alan and Betty June (Wright) Freeland.
Dave was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1973. He furthered his education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
On August 16, 1991, he married the love of his life, Cheri LaCoy in Sturgis.
Dave retired from Abbott Manufacturing in Sturgis following over 25 years of dedicated employment as a chemist.
He enjoyed reading, photography, gardening and most all types of music and working around his house and pool. Dave had a passion for the game of golf and had traveled to golf courses from British Columbia to Panama to play the game. He and Cheri loved warm weather and enjoyed wintering on the beaches of Panama and Mexico. Dave had hobbies and involvements but what he truly appreciated was time spent with family.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife: Cheri; mother: Betty June Freeland of Houston, Texas; sister: Cynthia Freeland of Houston, Texas; aunt and uncle: Jill and David Mieras of Ann Arbor; cousins: Dale Mieras and Rachael (Mieras) Carpenter and family; step-relatives: Joseph Parker of Sturgis and James (Sharon) Parker of Howe, Indiana and their families and best friend: Jamie Schilbach of Sturgis.
He was preceded in death by his father; uncle and aunt: Kent and Lucille Freeland; cousin: Mark Mieras and father-in-law: Bud LaCoy.

Susan Kay Werschky - December 25, 1940 - March 31, 2024

Obituary Preview: Susan Kay Werschky
Sue Werschky, age 83, lovingly known by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Susu,” was born on Christmas Day 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Louis Lemak, Jr. and Helen Fay (Olver) Lemak. She departed this world on Resurrection Sunday (Easter) 2024, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis where she was rehabilitating after a hospital stay.
Sue was one of a kind! A devout Christian and prayer warrior, she was a great example of God’s overwhelming love to her family and friends for generations. She was known for her extravagant generosity, and for being one of the sweetest women ever - always having a kind word and time for everyone.
Sue was happily married to her high school sweetheart, Lawrence (Larry) Werschky for 46 years until his death in 2006, and had 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She attended the University of Michigan for two years and Wayne State University for two years, where she graduated with a degree in music. She was known for her exceptional singing voice and loved performing in musicals. She was an elementary school music teacher for one year, but then was thrilled to stay home and raise children. Life was an adventure for the Werschky family, resulting in them residing in Colorado, Texas, California, Oregon, Minnesota, and Kentucky before returning to their home state of Michigan in 1985. Through the years she worked alongside her husband Larry in many of his business ventures. After the children were raised, she worked in his medical practice, doing all his medical transcription. Sue and Larry loved spending time in the Upper Peninsula, flying and discovering new restaurants together.
Sue loved spending time with family and friends, playing board games and cards, boating around Lake Templene, eating meals together, watching Michigan football and having coffee chats. She was known for her tremendous hospitality. She especially loved serving sweets, her favorite dessert being Yoder’s raspberry cream pie! She also loved reading, playing the piano, hosting family events, doing Bible studies and watching Hallmark movies and Murder She Wrote.
Sue is survived by her children: daughter Amy (Tim) Sivils, of Three Rivers, Michigan; daughter Aly (Rick) Yohn of Winter Garden, Florida; son Andy Werschky, of Destin, Florida; and son Tony (Lisa) Werschky, of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren: TJ (Lindsey) Ceravolo, Tony (Lori) Ceravolo, Charlie (Miriam) Sivils, Abby (Kyle) Whitlow, Will (Mary Ellen) Sivils, Mary Emma Sivils, Andy (Lindsey) Sivils, Anna (Caleb) Schmidt, Isabella Werschky, Ben (Lillie) Werschky, Caleb Werschky, Alex Werschky, Ellie Sivils, Lauren Werschky, Emi Werschky, Bethany Werschky, Luke Werschky and Leah Werschky, and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Louie Lemak and brother-in-law Bob (MaryAnn) Werschky, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry and her son Tex.
Sue was a great example of a godly woman, a loving wife and mother, and a kind and gentle spirit. She leaves a beautiful legacy of love for her family and friends. Rest in peace, beloved Susu.

Stephen has been a resident of Sturgis since 1973. On April 26, 1974 in LaGrange, IN he married Jean Smith. He had been employed by Bronson Plating and was a farmer of livestock and agriculture. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Michiana Audubon Club, and he
enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Surviving are his wife: Jean; a step-son: Donald Church of Macomb, Mississippi; granddaughters: Tabitha Church and Jennifer Henderson; a sister: Ruth Ann Cross of Woodland, AL; and a brother: Stanley Mock of Boswick, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Matthew S. Mock (2022), and a sister: Evelyn Rogers.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Stephen S. Mock will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091 with Rev. Calvin J. Kolzow, officiating.

She was born July 8, 1929 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and moved to Burr Oak, MI in 1951 where she has lived most of her life in the Burr Oak and Sturgis area.
She was first married January 25, 1949 to Hugh Wilder, he passed away January 7, 1982. She then married Fred Westra who passed away in 1987 and on May 18, 1990 in Burr Oak, MI she married Clarence E. Overholt who passed away Dec. 16, 2020.
Blanch had been employed by Doerr Products in Burr Oak for 18 years before they closed. She then was employed by Sturgis Hospital in the Dietary Department and had also worked as a dishwasher at Westside Restaurant which is now Grambys.
Blanch enjoyed walking, feeding people, and the solitariness of washing dishes. Surviving are one daughter: Victoria Overholt of Three Rivers, MI; 3 grandchildren:, Clarice (Daniell) Green of Centreville, Austin (Tia) Brooks of Sturgis, and Derek (Jessika) Brooks of Constantine, MI; 3 step-grandchildren: Angela (Dustin) Jasper of Sturgis, Randy (Sidney) Rank of Portage, MI, and Tim (Stacey) Rank of Zeeland, MI; a step-son-in-law: David Rank of Nottawa, MI; a niece: Mary Ann Wilder Maskin of Finleyville, PA; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;

Mary Lou Falkenstein - July 25, 1935 - March 21, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mary Lou Falkenstein, age 88, a lifelong Sturgis resident passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Thurston Woods Villa.
She was born July 25, 1935 at Sturgis Hospital to the late Ruby (Woods) and Don Kline.
Mary graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1953. She graduated from Glen Oaks Community College in 1984 with an Associates Degree in the Arts and also took several audited art and music classes.
On July 2, 1954 she married Carl E. Falkenstein at the Sturgis Bible Chapel. He passed away April 13, 1998.
She had been employed by the Sturgis Training Center for Special needs students, co-owner of The Knit-Wit Yarn Shop, and Director of Arts at the ISD Pathfinder Center until her retirement in 1997.
She enjoyed traveling and visited several states in the USA, Canada and Nova Scottia, Romania Mission Trip and to Wiesloch Germany with the Sister City Program, and several cruises with ports of call in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Mary was a member of the Board and President of the Girl Scouts, a 4-H leader, Band & Orchestra Parents Board President and chaperone on the Virginia Beach trips in 1971-72. ALL organization for Senior Citizens as president, Red Hat Society member, Secretary of the Sturgis Senior Center Board, Sturgis Council of the Arts, Auditorium Board, Active with the Sturgis Civic Players where she had active parts in several plays. Member SIMA and had been very active at the Trinity Lutheran Church as Bell Choir Director and other things. Very proud to have been a member of the Sturgis Wind Symphony pretty much since High School and served 4 ½ years on the Glen Oaks Board of Trustees.
Mary received the Sturgis Exchange Club Community Volunteer Award in 2002, Glen Oaks Fellow Award 2006, Open Door Gallery Peoples Choice Award 2008, Sturgis Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds, and Sturgis Citizen of the year in 2010.
She enjoyed Knitting, crocheting, painting, gardening, and puzzles.
She is survived by a daughter: Carla (Jack) Rupert of Bushnell, FL; a brother: Jim Kline of Kalamazoo, grandsons: Mike (Kate) Rupert and Mark Rupert; great-grandchildren: Anna, Mike, Lilly, and Sheriff; cousins: Jeff (Ann) Kline and Jody Fuller; nieces, nephews, and second family of Susie, Janet, Tom and Bob Kline all in California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Linda Lunares, sister-in-law: Carolyn Kline, auntie Sis and several uncles including: Bob Kline.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A service celebrating the life of Mary Lou Falkenstein will be held at a later date this summer. Nancy Lou Kissel - February 01, 1935 - March 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Nancy Lou Krontz Kissel age 89 of Wellston, Michigan and a former longtime Burr Oak resident passed away Wednesday morning March 13, 2024 at Corwell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
She was born February 1, 1935 in Sturgis, Michigan daughter of the late Arthur and Mabel (Maystead) Fisher.
Nancy resided in Wellston since 2020 coming from Zeeland. Most of her life was lived in Burr Oak where she was a graduate of Burr Oak High School with the class of 1953. She furthered her education at Battle Creek Community College where she earned a degree in dietary management.
On March 21, 1953 she married Leslie R. “Jake” Krontz in LaGrange, Indiana. He preceded her in death September 29, 2003. She later married Richard Kissel at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church and he also preceded her in death in 2019.
While still a young girl she worked at the Artic Restaurant in Burr Oak. She was employed as a dietary manager at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in LaGrange, Indiana and Three Rivers Manor in Three Rivers and she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Sturgis Church of Christ, Wellston Seniors and her Euchre Club and she enjoyed playing Bingo with the girls and sewing. Nancy was a diehard loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers.
Nancy is survived by her daughters: Mary Jo (Gary) Siler of Howe, Indiana, Leslie (Daniel) Schwartz of Grand Haven, Debbie (Donald) Falkenstein of Wellston, and Linda (Daniel) Furbush and Ellen Jean (William) VanderZwaag both of Holland and Susan Middleton of New Port, Arkansas; son: Arthur (Cindy) Krontz of Sturgis; daughter-in-law: Susan Krontz of Burr Oak; 32 grandchildren, a multitude of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and the many that knew her as grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, son: Raymond Krontz; granddaughter: Shannon Middleton Lambert; grandsons Jacob Hayes and Mike Kelly and Tee W. Tolle; great grandson: Austin Jacobs and Travis Jacobs; sons-in-law: Angel Ortez and Dean Middleton and sister: Sally Dodson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday, March 17th at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Nancy Krontz Kissel will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 18th. The Rev. George Cleverley of the Sturgis Church of Christ will officiate. She was born July 11, 1928 in Fort Wayne, IN a daughter of the late Clarence and Janice (Moody) Krock.
Phyllis’s early years were spent in Fort Wayne, IN and Sturgis, MI where she graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1947. She resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia for 30 years before moving to Florida in 1998 where she lived until moving back to Sturgis in 2016.
She was married to Paul N. Johnson who preceded her in death.
Phyllis retired from the City of Virginia Beach following 15 years of handling the city’s workman compensation. Prior to that she had been employed by Aetna Life Insurance Company for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in North Ft. Myers and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her many friends.
She is survived by two nephews: Michael (Kathy) Krock of Richmond, Texas and Andrew (Linda) Krock of Canyon Lake, Texas; and special friend: Patrick Keller of Huntsville, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers: Colin Krock and Bill Krock and one nephew: Greg Krock.

She was born March 5, 1929 in Chelyan, West Virginia a daughter of the late Arthur and Samantha (Jenkins) Patterson.
On June 30, 1945 she married Dewey Murphy and they were married 10 months when Dewey was killed and left a 6 day old baby son. On May 19, 1947 She married Thomas Richards and they were married 50 years before he passed away in 1997.
Pauline had been employed at Trans-O-Gram, Sturgis Co., Harter Corporation, and Ross Laboratories, where she retired from in 1991. She was a member of the Sturgis Nazarene Church, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and enjoyed reading.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law: Jean Murphy of Colon, MI; 4 grandchildren: Michelle (Steve) Byrne, Brook Richards, Samantha (James) Ferry, and Thomas (Carrie) Milham; 6 great-grandchildren: Claire Milham, Grayden Milham, Chelsie Richards, Isabella Ferry, Ava Ferry, and Ciara Byrne; one great-great-granddaughter: Nani Sofia Milham; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 2 sons: Curtis Murphy (2014) and Tom Richards Jr. (2006) 4 brothers: Donald, Hobart, Curtis, and Ray Patterson, and one sister: Ella Marshall.

She was born June 6, 1940 in St. Nazaire, France a daughter to the late Paul and Yvonne (Fouquet) Marrié.
On July 7, 1979 in Sturgis, MI she married Ronald R. Leist. He preceded her in death March 12, 1994.
After Rons death, Paulette moved to Marco Island, FL and resided there until just recently moving back to the Sturgis area. She enjoyed flower gardening and has won the Marco Island Garden of the year three times. She owned and operated Colortech for several years.
Surviving are 2 grandsons: Eric (Jessie Kroons) Buckhold and Jerry Caudill; 3 great-grandchildren: Amelia and Arryana Buckhold and Peyton Curry; Siblings: Jean, Joseph, Robert Pierre, and Roger Marrié all in France; her “adopted” grandchildren: Wendy (Ryan) Stevens, Jessie PeDue, Joseph PeDue, and Lynn Happner; adopted great-grandchildren: Oakley, Parker, Ella, and Jameson Stevens; several nieces and nephews. Obituary Preview: Fred E. Shank Jr. age 69, of Sturgis, MI left our loving family on Jan. 21, 2024 at home following a battle with Cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children, and family.
He was born to Fred E. and Marjorie R. (Luttrull) Shank on Sept. 14, 1954 in Muskegon, MI. His family moved to Sturgis in 1965.
Fred married Robyn S. Hettinger on June 17, 1978 and they have 2 sons: Nick and Courtney Shank.
He attended Sturgis Public Schools and graduated SHS with the class of 1973. He then attended and graduated from Glenn Oaks Community College with Suma Cum Laude and an Associates Degree of Applied Science and a dual degree in technology.
He retired from Lippert Components in Goshen, IN in July of 2021. He was very active in the sports his 2 boys participated in from Little League (being a coach) through high school. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play their sports from football, baseball, basketball, softball , volleyball, and bowling.
He was an avid bowler for many years and played fast pitch softball for many summers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with the boys, grandkids, brothers, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed playing golf on a league at Green Valley for many years. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame Football and in recent years basketball, loved watching John Wayne movies, and riding his motorcycle.
He held several positions with the local Boy Scouts and Cub Scout troops. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club. He was a member of the board of Directors and was the Hunter Safety Education Director for several years. Surviving are his wife: Robyn; sons: Nick (Tracy) Shank of Bronson, MI and Courtney Shank of Sturgis, MI; grandchildren: Cody and Erica Halferty, Andrea Shank, McKenna, Knisley, Kasey, Breylyn, and Abel Shank all of Sturgis, MI; great-granddaughter: Paisley;  sister: Loretta (Len) Roe of Constantine, MI; 2 brothers: Jeff (Tina) Shank of Ft. Marjorie was employed as a school bus driver for 30 plus years for the Sturgis Public Schools and the Pathfinder Center from 1977-2005 when she retired. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church where she enjoyed volunteering for the school. She also enjoyed working at the Special Olympics and crafting.
Surviving are two daughters: Theresa M. (Marvin) Gage of Centreville, MI and Cynthia (David) Bir of Calabasas, CA; 5 grandchildren: Kathryn (Joseph McTarsney) Gage, Victoria Gage, Alexander (Liona) Bir, Rebecca Bir, and Rachel Bir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson: Christopher Bir (2016), and an infant sister: Mary Kathryn (1943).

Lois graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1965 and also received an Associate Degree from Lansing Community College.
She had been employed as a Journeyman, press operator at the John Henry Company in Lansing. She also worked as an E.M.T and was an instructor of E.M.T.’s and fire science.
Lois enjoyed sewing, camping on her property at Hardy Dam, gardening and flowers.
She is survived by her three children: Ronald Paul Horton of Apollo Beach, Florida, Jennifer Leigh (Kenneth) Horton-Striegle of Hopkins, Michigan and Frederick William (Michelle) Knight of Grand Ledge, Michigan; eight grandchildren: Randee J. Horton, Winston S. Horton, Ian S. Obituary Preview: Dories Adams Gearring passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023, in Boston, Massachusetts, after an extended illness, at the home and in care of her sister, Gloria, and brother-in-law, Sandy Middlebrooks.
Doris was born on April 8, 1948, in Greenville, South Carolina to Paul and Alda Adams. Her parents were long-time residents of Lincoln, Nebraska, and were both activists in the city for many years. The Adams Elementary School in Lincoln is named for Lt. Col. Paul Adams.
Doris graduated from Lincoln High School, attended the University of Nebraska, and then graduated from Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee. At Fisk University she met and later married David E. Gearring of Gary, Indiana.
Doris was a wonderful wife and friend to her late husband, Dr. David Gearring, Sr. Together they raised sons, David, Jr. and Will Paul. Doris and David, Sr. were married for over 50 years, until his death in May 2022.
She was a wonderful, loving mother, doing everything for her sons. Her sons remember her as a loving, kind, joyful, playful person. “Our number one fan. Always encouraging, full of wisdom, and an example of how to live a good life.”
Doris was kind and thoughtful. All knew her as a happy, loving, generous person.
Her siblings appreciated and loved her for her sweet, wonderful, always kind, patient, and loving personality.
Her extended family enjoyed her helpful and kind personality and lovely smile.
Her close friends knew her as a caring person, always there when needed.
As a child of a military family, Doris adapted readily to traveling. some pace the family lived included Greenville, South Carolina, Honolulu, Hawaii, Washington DC, Rapid City, South Dakota, Holyoke, Massachusetts, Goose Bay, Labrador and Lincoln, Nebraska.
After marrying David, Sr. they lived in Omaha, NE, Minneapolis, MN, Gary, IN, St. Joseph, MI and Sturgis, MI. Additionally, they traveled all over the United States. They especially enjoyed attending Tuskegee Airmen Conventions with family. Her international travel included Denmark, France, England, Spain, India, Cuba, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina in South America.
While residing in Nebraska, she was employed by Mutual of Omaha. In Minnesota, working in the school system, she planned and chaperoned a group of high school students to Spain. She taught Spanish in Gary, Indiana, and was able to use her knowledge of Spanish as a teacher for English as a Second Language with students at Eastwood Elementary School in Sturgis, Michigan.
Doris became an integral part of the community, wherever she and her family lived. Some of her community activities included being a member of the Sturgis Women’s Club, Centro De Ayuda, and Sturgis Golf League. She was an avid golfer. Something she learned from her father at a young age. She also maintained her affiliation with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority since pleading Alpha Beta chapter at Fisk University. She was active in the Benton Harbor and Kalamazoo Alumnae chapters in Michigan.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Doris A. Gearring is survived by sons David (Tiffany) Gearring, Jr. of Tacoma, Washington, and William P. (Kayla) Gearring of Hopkins, Michigan, sister Gloria (Sandy) Middlebrooks of Boston, Massachusetts, brother Dr. Michael (Dr. Sondra) Adams of Oklahoma, brothers-in-law Denver (Patrica) Gearring, sisters-in-law Dr. Caroline (Dr. Jonathan) Majak, and Katie Pearson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was born July 26, 1945 in Sturgis, Michigan son of the late Earl and Rosetta (Krontz) Morey, Sr.
Rex resided his entire life in Sturgis before moving to North Canton in March of 2023 to be closer to his son Rex Jr.
On May 14, 1983 he married Gail R. Farnham in Sturgis. She preceded him in death January 22, 2023.
Most of Rex’s working life was in maintenance. He retired from Lake Park Industries in Shipshewana, Indiana. Prior to joining Lake Park he had been employed by Duo Therm Division of Motor Wheel Corporation in LaGrange, Indiana for many years.
He was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1963 and member of the National Rifle Association, St. Joseph County Conservation Club, Single Action Shooting Society and the Good Sam Club. He enjoyed machine and mechanical work, his guns, traveling to Florida with Gail in their motorhome and he loved just hanging out in his garage.
He is survived by his children: Rex (Christine) Morey, Jr. of Alliance, Ohio, Jennifer Buchanan of Sturgis, Misty Barnes of Three Rivers and Michael Morey of Alliance, Ohio; grandchildren: Paige, Kristen, Alyssa, Anthony, Grace, Ashley, Abigail, Olivia and Wyatt; great grandchildren: Madalyn, Hayden, Henry, Hudson and Elizabeth and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother: Earl Morey.

Obituary Preview: Bryan David Annis, age 64, of Sturgis, MI passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 8, 2023 at his home.
He was born October 29, 1959 in Hillsdale, MI a son to the late Burton D. and Geraldine (Slocum) Annis.
Bryan has been a resident of Sturgis since moving here in 1995 from Manchester, MI. He graduated from Western High School in Jackson County, MI and attended Jackson Community College. While living in Jackson he owned a Sign and Advertising Company called Maximum Exposure, where he worked alongside his father and grandfather painting advertisements and billboards by hand. After moving to Sturgis he was employed by Adams Outdoor Advertising, where he designed and planned billboard placements. Before retirement, he most recently worked for the Michiana Saver Publication.
In his younger days, you could catch Bryan with a cigar and good book in hand on his sailboat, where he enjoyed sailing on Klinger Lake. Always in search of the next adventure, he backpacked the pictured rocks alongside Lake Superior, annually camped with the family in Pentwater, MI, and always made time to set up deer camp with the boys opening day of deer season in Meredith, MI. Other hobbies included being a self-made handyman, fixing up an old jeep, antique camper, and used lawn equipment he considered to be “unpolished gems”.
Surviving are four children: Tara (Bret) Foster and Jack Annis (of first marriage to Cathy Knapp); Max Annis and Canden Annis (of second marriage to Kimberly Trine). All raised in Sturgis, MI. Surviving family includes: his brother Troy (Amy) Annis and sister Lorrianne Gibbons, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Mark Annis.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering celebrating his life will be held at a later date, to be announced.

Dorothy was born in Sturgis Michigan on October 2, 1926 to the late David and Pearl (Yunker) vonOlnhausen.
Dorothy married Richard Arthur Fennell on October 5, 1947 at the Pretty Prairie Church in Howe Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse Richard of 48 years, three sons; Jan Eric, Jon Guy, and Rickey Ren, along with three brothers; Stanley, Carl, Donald, and four sisters: Kathryn, Doris, Elna, Jeanette.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela (Frederick) Schulz and son Charles (Wendy) Fennell. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren. Amy Sigal, Sarah (Andy) Wesselhoft, Stephanie (Ryan) Weldy, Shane (Ashley) Fennell, Brandon (Nicole) Rapp, Chelsea Rapp, 18 greatgrandchildren, and 2 great greatgrandchildren, along with her sister Shirley (Dennis) Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy loved the outdoors and nature. Working in her yard and garden gave her immense joy. She would can, freeze, and share the extra bounty of her garden. Flower beds could be found all around her home. Some flowers were reminders of birthdays, because they bloomed at a specific time of the year.
Over the years Dorothy enjoyed watching horse racing. Whether in person at a Fair or from the comfort of her chair and big screen TV. She was known to host Kentucky Derby Parties for her family, complete with Best Hat Contests.
Knowing the saying “Laughter is the Best Medicine”, Dorothy enjoyed both hearing jokes and telling jokes to provoke a laugh. She would also always have cookies at the ready for those who came to visit. They were her “sugar hugs”.
Dorothy had a long and full life, always loving and giving of herself and time. She is now at peace and pain free as she walks through the “Pearly Gates” and strolls the “Streets of Gold” in Heaven.

Obituary Preview: David L. Hochstetler age 72, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away peacefully on December 3rd in the arms of his beloved wife at home, following a short illness. He is now a resident of Heaven with many loved ones who went before him.
He was born in Sturgis, Michigan on October 19, 1951 and was a graduate of SHS class of 1970. David was a rare breed of man, sensitive, thoughtful, and caring. He loved deeply and never thought twice about helping someone at home or in the community.
He was a native of Sturgis, although he called other places home in his “misspent youth”. He returned to Sturgis and met and fell in love with his wife to be, Deb (Frohriep) in 1976. They were smitten from the first dance and were married September 3, 1977. They’ve had many amazing adventures together and have traveled much of the world.
He worked for several years at Owens Classic Mfg. before starting Delta III with his father, Omar, and friend, Dan Breejen. That business thrived and was eventually sold. After a brief early retirement, he decided to go into the real estate business and so began his second career, the highlight of that was achieving #1 in the county for several years. He was dubbed “The King of Real Estate” by Omar. He was a fine example of hard work paying off. This was a life lesson he passed along to many, especially his 3 amazing children, who loved him dearly. Each of them were able to surround him in his final week, reliving stories of their parents and memories of the past.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a true prayer warrior. David would want you to know, if he told you he would pray for you, he did it. David enjoyed crying at movies, great food, traveling & hunting.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara, his father and best friend, Omar, father-in-law: Jack Frohriep, a nephew, Manny, grandparents, and several true friends.
David is survived by his wife Deborah, 3 children, Gretchen (Brandon) Cropsey, Lynsey (Andrew) Disbrow, & Casey (Katalina) Hochstetler. 5 grandchildren, Andrew & Sarah Cropsey, Clay Hochstetler, and Dylan & Lauren Disbrow. Sisters: Ruth (Randy) King and Debi Bodett and several nieces and nephews.
He was a true example of a family man, always around for a hug, and I love you, and encouragement. He will be deeply missed by many who look forward to seeing him someday in Heaven.
The family will receive friends & relatives on Friday, December 8th, from 4-7 pm at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road in Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of David L. Hochstetler will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview, Sturgis, MI 49091. She was previously married to David Wayne Miller and this marriage ended in divorce. On August 27, 2023, she committed her love to Michael Taulbee.
She was a homemaker most of her life, staying home to raise her children. She did work for a short time at McDonalds and American Axle.
Lynda enjoyed crocheting, dancing, traveling, especially to see the oceans, modeling, both shows and runway modeling, helping family and friends plan their weddings, playing cards, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children: Ryan Miller, Danyel Miller, Kathryn (Martin) Miller-Munson, and Aryc Hargreave; her spouse: Michael Taulbee, 2 step-grandchildren: Zoie and Eli, her mother: Janice Riddle, a sister: Lisa Riddle, a half-sister: Debra Slater, a uncle: James H. Holtz, 2 aunts: Mary Martin and Susan (David) Seagle; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father: Robert Riddle, grandparents: John & Kathryn Holtz and Opie and Floye Riddle, a uncle: Aaron Riddle, 2 aunts: Elsie Seagle and Carol Sandy, 1 niece: Carrie Gay.
