Obituary Preview: Arlene Tress Gurrola, aged 53, peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home on November 24, 2023, as she was called home by God. Born on March 9, 1970, in Denver, CO, she was the beloved daughter of Joe Suazo and Linda Armijo, cherished as a beloved wife,
mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend by many. She attended John F Kennedy High School, where she encountered her high school sweetheart, Everardo (Manny) Gurrola. Their love story began in 1986 when introduced by Manny's sister, Carol, blossoming into a devoted marriage that endured for 37 years. Among Manny's cherished memories are Arlene's radiant smile and big brown eyes. He fondly referred to her as "my shortie" or "my pinguina." Forever treasured by Manny is the image of Arlene as a
devoted wife, nurturing mother, and caring guardian to their family. Arlene and Manny were high school sweethearts for two years. The joy of Arlene's pregnancy with their first child, Devon, in 1988, marked the beginning of their marriage and the expansion of their family. The arrival of their second child in 1990, Lauren, was a delightful surprise for Arlene & Manny, a precious gift. Lauren fondly reminisces about moments with her mother, such as coloring together during her childhood and later becoming each other’s dancing partner. Years passed, and in 2000, their third child, Adrian, was born. Adrian lovingly recalls his mom's presence during a pivotal life moment—receiving his high school diploma. He remembers her capturing the moment in photographs, cheering him on, and celebrating his achievements. He shared how he would miss her little hand on his chest, saying, “I love you, Lobo. Everything will be ok.” Beyond her children, Arlene cherished her step-grandchildren, Angel and Fernando, and adored her furry grandchildren: Lil Dude, Osobear, Lilo, Nena, and Mini. Arlene also had a soft spot for their own furry companions, treating each as a cherished family member. Animals were an integral part of her life, bringing her immeasurable joy, purpose, and warmth. Over the
years, the family welcomed dogs, cats, lizards, and birds into their home. Her friends were her extended family, offering solace and laughter through life's highs
and lows. Her kindness and loyalty endeared her to those fortunate enough to call her a friend. For everyone who knew Arlene, her passion for dancing and cherished moments with loved ones were unforgettable. Her memory will endure in the hearts of all who deeply knew and
loved her. Sirena M. Rodriguez (Martinez) - June 27, 1975 - November 05, 2023

Departed: 11/05/2023 (Lakewood)
Obituary Preview: Sirena M. Rodriguez (Martinez) went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 5, 2023. God blessed her to be a blessing to others. She was born on June 27, 1975, and was the youngest of four children born to Paul and Mary Martinez of Denver Colorado. Sirena was a Cheerleader in High School, a graduate of Metropolitan State and Colorado Christian University, and a teacher at Colorado Uplift for 26 years, but most importantly, she was a loving wife and adoring mother.
On August 7, 1999, she married William Rodriguez Jr. whom she met at Praise Center Church through mutual friends. The two traveled the world together bought a home and celebrated many accomplishments; the greatest was that of the birth of their daughter Daniella on August 25, 2009. Daniella was a new adventure and the two quickly fell in love with parenthood and all of the joy that it brought. Sirena proudly watched Daniella blossom into a gifted artist, actress and singer. She wrote down that her favorite thing was watching her daughter sing for the Lord. Most recently she was excited that Daniella also joined cheer and cherished her new role as Cheer Mom and taking Daniella to cheer competitions.
The three of them loved being together and with others. Sirena had a special gift of not just making friends but keeping friends. She cherished those who God brought into their lives opening her home and her heart to others. Many have said, “Sirena was my first friend”, whether it was at church, school, or work, it was her heart to connect and stay connected to others. They always made themselves available to celebrate birthdays, graduations, or just a good day, with everyone in their lives. If you invited them, they would be there, and Sirena would be dressed for the occasion.
Just after receiving her B.A. from Metropolitan State University, Sirena joined Colorado Uplift, a nonprofit in the Denver area that works with children and teenagers in Denver Public Schools. Sirena was a teacher, a mentor and a friend to thousands of students for over 26 years. She worked as a post-secondary director helping high school students discover their passion for continued education after graduation. She impacted many of their lives for Christ and also gave them the encouragement and resources they needed to achieve great things. Most recently she was able to get several students into college with a full-ride four-year scholarship. She believed in them and in turn, she gave them something to believe in. The stories of her students and the impact she had on them have written a beautiful legacy that will not be forgotten.
Sirena was a champion for education, the first to graduate from college in her family, Sirena went on to earn her BA in Communications from Metropolitan State University and her Master's degree in Education and Curriculum Development at Colorado Christian University. Sirena was currently working on her second Master's degree to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She had a heart for helping people and was working on a degree that would transition her from helping teenagers to helping married couples and families in the future.
She loved her family, she loved fashion, and she loved taking every opportunity that life presented her whether it was travel, concerts, football, basketball, hockey, or theater; whatever it was, Sirena was there for it, and she brought others along to share the moment. But most importantly, Sirena loved God and she shared His love every opportunity that she got. From students to coworkers, family, and friends, Sirena wanted nothing more than to share Christ and how He changed her life.
Sirena is preceded in death by her brother Paul Martinez Jr. and her mother, Mary Alice Martinez. She is survived by her husband William Rodriguez Jr and their daughter Daniella Rodriguez. Her Father Paul Martinez. Her sister Emily Diane and Albert Sanchez and their children, Marlena, Jessica (James), and Savannah (Stephen) and her great nephews and nieces, Michael, Emily, Christopher, Jayla, Jaslyn, Avery, Nico and Maverick.
Her sister Vicky and Paul Gaschler and her children, Nichole, Rodney, and Darlene (Mike), and great-nephews, Sterling, Cory, Shiloh and great-niece, Manaya.
Her in-laws Pastor William and Francine Rodriguez and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Michelle and Clement Fitzsimmons and their children, Sean (Marina), Jonathan, Preston, Lauren, and great niece Angelina-Rae.
A Celebration of Life memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday November 21, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Waterstone Church, 5890 S. Alkire St. in Littleton Colorado.

Departed: 10/22/2023 (Lakewood)
Obituary Preview: Steve Leonard Lopez, 90, was born in Trinidad, Colorado and moved to Denver when he was 7 years old. He passed away in Denver on Sunday, October 22, 2023. Steve was a widower, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, friend, and advocate who made a positive impact on countless lives.
He is survived by all three of his children: Leonard (and Esther) Lopez, Carmen Lopez, and Liz Lopez; 9 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Lopez, many nieces and nephews, and family members by marriage that he welcomed as his own. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Lopez, his parents, and 8 of his 9 siblings.
His service to others was a theme throughout his life. Steve was always ready with helping hands for family and friends, and he is an Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. His career in the union included advocacy for the working class as he sought equality for employees and provided mentorship and career advice for many people across the Front Range. While his career was meaningful to him, his family was a top priority. He enjoyed time with the many generations of his family. An outdoorsman and sportsman, he shared many stories from his adventures in the mountains. Many of his grandchildren continue to share stories of their fishing adventures with him that took place across Colorado.
Steve’s great sense of humor ignited laughter across the room, and his humble nature would discreetly decline too much attention. His kindness left an imprint in our world, and the void without him is noticeable. His family is thankful for nearly a century worth of experiences and advice that he shared with many.

Glen was born in Westminster, CA. on March 23, 1972 to Curtis and Jean Jacobsen. He grew up in Westminster, CA where he attended school and graduated with his degree in Information Technology.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or a professional obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral service and any charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. A good rule of thumb is to aim for around 150-200 words.

Yes, many newspapers and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

You can usually submit an obituary to a newspaper through their website or by contacting their obituary department directly. Be sure to check their guidelines and deadlines for submission.

Can I write my own obituary?
