Obituary Preview: Vernon Dale Shackleford, age 62 of Rolla, passed away unexpectedly at Phelps Health Hospital on Thursday, August 19, 2021.

On September 25, 1958, Vernon was born in Rolla, Missouri; a son to the late Oscar and Mable(McDowell) Shackleford.

Vernon attended school at Flat Grove and was a graduate of Rolla High School.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan. In addition, he enjoyed dancing, country music, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by four brothers; Kenneth Woolsey of Freeport, Texas, Richard Shackleford and wife Madelyn of St. Robert, Missouri, Gary Shackleford of Denver Colorado, and Gerald Shackleford of Bridgeton, Missouri, and five sisters; Betty Reynolds, Donna Lough, Sandra McKendrick, Debra Funk, all of Rolla and Brenda Birdsong of Newburg, Missouri.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Woolsey, niece Janel Lambert, and nephew Steven Birdsong.

Vernon will be sadly missed by his immediate family, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and all who knew him.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the Rolla City Cemetery, with Paul Robbins II officiating.  A gathering of family and friends will follow at the home of Debra Funk, 302 Massmann St. Rolla, Missouri. .

Catherine was born July 21, 1956, in Cabool, a daughter to the late Wallace and Mary (Snyder) Romines.

Catherine attended school in Houston and attended the Providence Church in Cabool and later the Renovation Church in Mansfield, MO.

She enjoyed bowling, making jewelry, computers, crafts, Elvis and learning about Native American culture.

Catherine is survived by one daughter, Mary Scheets and her husband Aaron of Cabool; three grandchildren, Leah, Abigale and Gabrielle; three brothers, Roger Romines and his wife Gloria of Houston, Randy Romines and his wife Billie of Houston and Roy Hoggatt and his wife Jennifer of Holts Summit, MO; one sister, Shirley Townley and her husband Larry of Wood River, IL as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Catherine’s life will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 11:00am at the Bado Community Church, Hwy M, Bado, MO.

Obituary Preview: Susan L. Brawley, age 60, of Licking, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Phelps Health in Rolla.

Susan was born June 23, 1961, in Boise, Idaho, a daughter to the late Carl and Patsey (Terry) Woods.

On November 3, 2006, she was united in marriage to John Brawley in Harrison Arkansas.

She was a loving and caring Christian woman who enjoyed watching Joyce Meyer on tv as well as reading her books and the bible. Her other hobbies included interior decorating, crafts, gardening, and decorating her home for every holiday. Susan was a immaculate house keeper and had a huge love for animals. She loved collecting angels and she will be missed greatly by those that knew and loved her.

Susan is survived by two sons, Justin Hardisty of Newton, Iowa and Craig “Spike” Kuster; one daughter, Nikki Hardisty; one brother, Eddie King of Las Vegas; one half-sister, Quintana Langel, numerous grandchildren as well as many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by one sister, Teresa Dilday and two half-brothers, Carl Woods, Jr., and Corey Woods.

He was married to Patricia “Patty” Lynes of Columbia. They were married for 55 years, and she survives of the home in Rolla.

Frank enjoyed gunsmithing, firearms, dog training, engine dynamics and politics.

In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his children, Patricia, Christopher, Verniece, Anthony and Ryan Moyle.

Gerald Lee Werner - March 21, 1943 - August 06, 2021

Obituary Preview: Gerald Lee Werner age 78 of Rolla, died unexpectedly at University Hospital in Columbia on Friday, August 6, 2021.

He was born March 21, 1943, in Chicago Illinois, a  son of the late  Edward H. Werner and Violet H. (Baney) Werner.

Gerald was baptized Lutheran.

Gerald graduated Rolla High School in 1961. He served in the National Guard from 1964 to 1970 when he received an honorable discharge.

He Worked at the Rolla Daily Newspaper in Missouri, Caterpillar Tractor Company in Illinois, and a floor care worker for Heritage Park Nursing home in Missouri.

Gerald was married to Brenda S. Crouch of Rolla on September 18, 1968, and they were married for 52 years.

Gerald was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted, father and husband as well as a good provider for his family.

Gerald was a survivor of throat cancer since 2011. He participated in the Relay for life in Rolla.

Gerald’s favorite color was Baby Blue. His favorite animal was the owl. He loved St Louis Cardinal Baseball games of which his favorite player was Yadier Molina. Up until his later years Gerald threw a mean horseshoe game. He also liked to play card games, watch horse races, cooking shows, and game shows. He was a good cook and some of his specialties were meatloaf and his famous baked beans. Gerald could often be found putting puzzles together while singing and listening to 50's, 60's, or country music. Gerald Werner was predeceased by his parents Edward and Violet Werner,  four sisters, Dee Adam, Fern Bibeau, Darlean Danaher, and Marilyn Tischer and two Brothers, Harold Werner and Roger Werner

Gerald is survived by his wife Brenda; a sister Judy Grant and her husband Chuck of the state of Illinois; a daughter Tammy and her husband Jesse Fielder; a son Tony Werner and his wife Beverly (Martin); his grandchildren, Samantha Fielder, Michael Werner, Stephen Fielder, Matthew Werner, and Miranda Werner as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gerald Lee Werner will be deeply and forever missed dearly.

Dennis Melville Davis - July 26, 1940 - August 01, 2021

Obituary Preview: Dennis Melville Davis, age 81 of Rolla, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

His love of life, closeness to friends and family didn't come to an end with his death. Dennis’ loved ones will continue to honor his legacy by laughing, loving and living their lives to the fullest.

Dennis was born on July 26, 1940, to parents Margie O. Colvin and Cleo M. Davis. He married the love of his life; Doris J. Davis to whom he was married to for 59 years. He was a real character, loved by many and an inspiration to others.

He served in the 101st Airborne in Germany for 3 years and later worked for the Missouri Public Service, the agency he retired from.

He was a member of the VFW, a past city councilman and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada, MO.

He gave back to his community often. Dennis and his friend Rick made several trips to donate goods to G.R.A.C.E. and participated in various donating programs as they arose. Dennis made frequent donations to the Wounded Warrior Project. He was known for helping those in need and donated approximately 14 gallons of blood over the years.

Dennis was known for not holding back his opinion. He had a knack for telling things like they were, whether you liked it or not. He was respected for his honesty and loved for his ability to make others laugh. Dennis never met a stranger and never forgot a name. He especially loved sharing funny stories about his six grandchildren as they were growing up.

He was a great storyteller with a quick wit. He loved entertaining those around him, whether with humor or food. Dennis was also known for his cooking, frying the best catfish, grilling/smoking, and party planning.

He loved spending time at the lake, camping, Missouri Rivers, South Padre Island, fishing, and wine making but nothing compared to spending time with his friends and family.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Doris Davis, his daughter, Denise Sollars and her husband Charlie of Paola, KS, his son Jeff Davis, and wife Debbie of Rolla, 6 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced by the family.

To honor this avid outdoorsman, in lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorials be made out to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Missouri Conservation Department to preserve the state's rivers and streams along with local parks and nature centers.

Jacqueline "Jackie" M. Maddox - June 30, 1943 - July 25, 2021

Obituary Preview: Jacqueline “Jackie” M. Maddox, age 78, of St Robert, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Silverstone Nursing Facility in Rolla.

Jackie was born June 30, 1943, a daughter to the late Arvel and Nell Keeney.

She was united in marriage to Robert Maddox. Robert survives of their home near St. Robert.

Jackie owned and operated the Mr. Charles and Whistle Beauty Shops in Rolla for 49 years before retiring. She won Miss Congeniality and 1st runner up in the Miss South Central Beauty Pageant in 1962.

Jackie’s hobbies included traveling with her husband Robert, painting, collecting rocks and crystals, and shopping every chance she would get. She especially loved time spent with her family and friends. Jackie had a smile that would light up the world. She will be missed tremendously by her family and those that knew and loved her.

Jackie is survived by: four sons, Tony Burnett and his wife Terri, Erik Burnett, Donnie Burnett and his wife Jenny, and Joseph Maddox and his wife Trisha; three daughters, Jill Grogan and her husband Gary, Jami Burnett, and Aungela Spurlock; twenty one grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dennis Keeney as well as many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her grandma, Glady Reardon and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Celebration of Life services for Jackie are planned for August 7, 2021 at the Gear City Church located at 305 East First Street in Rolla from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Robert "Bob" Kenneth Hamer - July 04, 1947 - July 24, 2021

Obituary Preview: Bob was born at home in Iowa on 7/4/1947 to Howard and Marcedes (Thoma) Hamer.

Bob grew up in middle Iowa and Stewartville, MN. He graduated from Stewartville High School in 1966. Bob worked various jobs in the Stewartville and Rochester Area until he moved to Iowa in 1973.

Bob worked at Hydraulics in Hampton Iowa, then Alexander Manufacturing in Mason City, Iowa then Winnebago Manufacturing in Forest City Iowa until he retired. He met and married his wife Ruth Mumford on July 19th, 1980. They lived in the Mason City Iowa area until Ruth’s passing on March 24th, 2013.

Bob and Ruth helped raise their granddaughters Nancy England and Harley Merry until Bob moved to Salem MO.

Bob loved fishing, watching NASCAR races, tinkering on projects and mowing lawn. His lawns were always spectacular.

Bob is survived by his daughter Robin Bell of Belmond Iowa, Kyle Bell, Isaac Bell and great grandson Elija Neal Bell. Brother Roger Hamer of Salem and family, Roxann (Tom) Neumann of Plainview, MN and families, Linda Hamer of Le Mars, Iowa and Families. Uncle Gerald (Mary) Thoma, Aunt Bonnie Ressler, Aunt Lorraine Reisdorph, Aunt Sandy (Chuck) Christenson, Uncle Robert Messick and many cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, parents Howard and Marcedes Hamer,

his nephew Jared Neumann and brother Larry Hamer.

A celebration of life will be held July 29th ,Thursday evening 6-8 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church at 403 MO32 in Salem, MO.

Henry "Hank" Floyd Harris - January 03, 1953 - July 11, 2021

Obituary Preview: Henry Floyd “Hank” Harris passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in St. James, MO on July 11, 2021 after a long fought battle with cancer.  Hank was born on January 3, 1953 to the late Don and Jessie Mae Harris and spent his younger years growing up in Malden, MO.

Hank truly enjoyed life and did it with style.  He was a hard and capable worker having spent a short time in the United States Army, worked several years as a truck driver and the last seventeen years as a resort manager for Bullwinkles Lodge just outside Poplar Bluff, MO.  He took great pride in his work and enjoyed being the “go to man” for his employees and patrons.  Hank had an incredible love of horse racing and was constantly looking for not only the next winner, but the next champion.  Like Secretariat, Hank had a huge heart and was willing to lend anyone a hand however he could as long as he didn’t have to break a sweat.  Hank was an avid fisherman and truly enjoyed fishing for trout on Lake Taneycomo.  He prided himself that he had spent a good number of years renting a cabin at the same resort at least once every year.

Hank told stories.  LOTS of stories.  He loved to talk to people and over the years won over the hearts of many friends and family.  He was seldom at a loss for words and when he was, it was because he had met his match for a moment with sarcastic humor.  Never one to be upset or aggravated with these conversations, you always knew when he had been had by a friendly slug to the shoulder through laughter. Hank loved his country and between the humorous stories and tall tales, often talk of politics came to light.  He called himself a die hard Democrat, but one could often hear through conversation that he had more of a middle of the road viewpoint.  Like a lot of people, he just longed for the days when everything wasn’t so “left or right.”

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, one older sister, Donna Metcalf, and brothers-in-law Ben Metcalf and Raymond Mueller.  Siblings surviving Hank include a brother Ed (Lori) Harris, sister Dolly Harris, sister Sheila (Raymond) Mueller, and brother Michael Harris.  He was a loving father to daughters Maretta Portwood of Crescent, OK and Donna Rackley (Randy) of Saint James, MO.  He is also survived by ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Hank will be announced at a later date.

Helen was born in Loop, Texas on October 29, 1937, a daughter to the late Eric and Leona (Smith) Hand.

She was united in marriage to Billy Ray Cunningham. Billy preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Hand, and Dorris McDowell and her husband Sherman and one brother, William Hand.

Helen leaves behind: three sons, Larry Eades and his wife Doreen and their children Angela Daniels, Tiffany Brooks and her husband Brian, Nathan Eads and Michael Eades; Ernest Eades and his wife Valerie and their children, Timothy Eades and his wife Sarah, Nicole Eades, Crystal Eades, and Lynda Prewett and her husband Montana; and Robert Cunningham and his daughter, Cassandra Crouch as well as many great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William Dayton; three brothers, Bill, Carl, and Marvin; four sisters, Rita Kay, Gerri, Helen and Jacqueline.

Duane enjoyed singing, playing guitar, fishing, golfing, boating, and playing cards with friends and family. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife, Donna Spurgin of Edgar Springs, Mo; son, Dean Spurgin and finance’ Karen Frizzell of Salem, Mo; daughter, Kristine Gerbing and husband Andreas Gerbing of Edgar Springs; daughter, Shayla Jett of Edgar Springs, Mo; ten grandchildren which includes: Shannon Schmidt, Ashley Robles, Winter Dayton, Duane Spurgin, Dylan Spurgin, Donovan Spurgin. Alexis Spurgin, Taisha Kellner, Febra Dering, and Kent Kellner; fifteen and a half great grandchildren; one brother, Clyde Spurgin of Greensboro, Ar; and one sister, Faye Lewis of Bonne Terre, Mo as well as many extended family members and friends.

He was born May 9, 1941 in Oak Hill, a son to the late Lee Oscar and Ella (Haines) Bunton.

On July 1, 1986 he was united in marriage to Sherry Hackney at the courthouse in Hemann. Sherry survives of Owensville.

Oscar had been employed at Freeman Hill in the past and retired from Gerald Industries after 25 years.

He was a lifelong area resident and enjoyed the outdoors, doing yard work, and reading the newspaper and his Bible. Oscar liked watching older comedy shows like Gilligan's Island and Mama’s Family but his great joy came from spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Sherry, Oscar is survived by: one daughter, Christina ‘Witte’ Onder and her husband Brian of Owensville; three grandchildren, Allysa, Lucas, and Levi Onder of Owensville; one brother, Earl Brown of St. Claire; three sisters, Mary Miller of Washington, Pearl Bunton of Bourbon, and Cathy Denham and her husband Rick of Hawaii; and one special nephew, Michael Spurgeon as well as many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Orville Bunton, James Bunton, Vernon Bunton, Shirley Spurgeon, Sharron Niehause, Emmet Bunton, Elvin Bunton, and Ronald Bunton.

Frederick "Freddy" Davis McCormack - December 02, 1948 - June 15, 2021

Obituary Preview: Frederick Davis McCormack, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the age of 72.  He was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Frederick J. and Eunamae McCormack (nee Davis), and was raised in the Catholic faith.  Fred aka “Freddy” began laying brick with his father in 1963 at the age of 15.  He moved to Vichy, MO in 1970 and a year later took over McCormack Masonry and ran the family business until his retirement in 2016.  Through the years he became an expert in brick, block and stone masonry.  He was very proud of his 53 years of bricklaying and was a member of the Bricklayers’ Union Local #1 in St. Louis.  The union honored his 50 years of service with a gold card, Life Membership pin, and a Life Member card and certificate.

Fred was a strong, dedicated, hardworking man and his legacy will live on in the thousands of buildings, storefronts and homes that he worked on or built from the ground up.  He was a music lover, singer, songwriter, and played guitar.  He loved fishing, boxing, Cardinals baseball and old western movies.  In his younger days he raised cattle in his spare time.  He was most comfortable in the country and enjoyed his life in Vichy.  Fred was one of the kindest men anyone had ever met; he would do anything for anyone and never want in return.  He would give you the last dollar in his pocket or the shirt off his back.  He was a charismatic character with a bright personality and brilliant laugh. He was so warm and inviting that you always had a wonderful time when he was around.  He lived his best life full of fun, joy, love and laughter.  He could light up the room with his smile and was adored by his family and friends.  He will be missed DEARLY by all who knew him.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother and father, great-grandson Jameson McCormack, and sisters-in-law Pat McCormack and Karen McCormack.  Fred is survived by his two daughters Cheryl Shafer (Jimmy), and Chrissy McCormack (Sherrie); his two grandchildren Courtney McCormack (Sarah) and Ryan McCormack (Krista); his two great-grandchildren Jaxson McCormack and Noah McCormack; and his five brothers Mike McCormack, Jerry McCormack (Sandy), Tim McCormack (Tonia), Dan McCormack (Brenda), and Kevin McCormack.

He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, drag racing, watching NASCAR races, westerns and cooking shows.

In addition to his mother and spouse of 23 years, Larry is survived by three sons, two daughters, one brother and nine grandchildren.

In addition to his father, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Shane Duke and an infant daughter, Whitney.

A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Doolittle.

Ron was born August 30, 1959, in Rolla a son to Lloyd G. Wieland of Rolla and Mary Delores “Dee” Wilson-Wieland of Steelville.

Ron graduated from Rolla High School in 1978. He was a member of the Rolla Bulldog Football team and loved playing and giving his all.

Ron enjoyed everything about the outdoors including, fishing, rivers, floating, bird watching and hunting for morel mushrooms which were his absolute favorite. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

After graduation from high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Army and received training in radio communications. He was then stationed at Ft. Ord, CA. where he received intensive jungle training in Central and South America.

In addition to his parents. Ron is survived by his three children, Casey of Rolla and Scott and Nicole of the state of California; 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his older brother, Patrick Wilson of Steelville and his younger sister, Jacquelyn Wieland-Davis of Rolla as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in the Pea Ridge Cemetery.

Michael was born on March 16, 1983, in Alliance, NE a son to James and Genene (Parolek) Grange. His parents survive of their home. Michael lived with his parents in their home for 3 months before passing away.

Michael graduated from Cabool High School and worked as a D.J. at Country 99.3 the Rooster as well as construction. Michael loved being outdoors floating, BBQing, target shooting or playing sports with the boys. He enjoyed playing video games as well as programming and working on computers. He loved to listen to music and loved his food, but he especially loved time spent with his friends and family. He was a phenomenal man who left this world too soon.

In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his fiancé Amanda Stokes; two sons, Gavin and Ezekiel Grange; two daughters Heaven Grange and Tapanga Dougherty as well as many extended family and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Life Church in Houston.

After his discharge from the military, Glenn worked as a mechanic in St Louis before finally moving to Rolla.

Glen was of the Christian faith and  was very mechanically inclined. He could fix almost anything. He also enjoyed reading and writing.

Survivors include, one daughter, Brandy Kell and her husband John Scott of Sarasota, FL, one brother Timothy Hacker and his wife Catherine of Hazelwood, MO, a nephew, Max Hacker, two grandchildren, Taylor and Tara Baker of the state of Florida and three great grandchildren, Dylan, Grayson and Hayley Deloach all of the state of Florida.

Obituary Preview: Hellene Mae (Henrichs) Tharp of Rolla Missouri passed from this world on May 26, 2021 surrounded by family.

Hellene was born on February 2, 1944 in Rosco Texas to Alfred Fritz and Avo (Blair) Henrichs. She grew up on the family Farm.

She went to Garden City High School In Garden City Texas, before being accepted to Texas Tech University in 1961.

In June of 1962, she met the love of her life, John Ellis Tharp.  They were engaged in July, married in August, and have since been by each other’s side for almost 59 years.

As the wife of a forest Ranger, Hellene followed John from Texas to Arizona, New Mexico, back to Arizona, and then New York before settling down in Rolla Missouri in 1985. When she was able, Hellene stayed home with her children until the youngest of her three boys started school in 1977.  Hellene worked several jobs during her career including working for the US Forest Service in Happy Jack and Flagstaff Arizona.  She also worked in Law offices in Odessa New York, and for Thomas, Clayton and Birdsong in Rolla Missouri.  She worked in the Metallurgical Engineering department at the University of Missouri Rolla (Now Missouri S&T), worked at the Billeting Office at Fort Leonard Wood, and worked at the Bureau of Mines in Rolla before completing her career in the HR department at the US Geological Survey in Rolla.

In her earlier years, Hellene embraced the outdoor life so loved by her family.  She loved to fish, camp, gather Pinion Pine nuts, berries and fruit from the forest, and tagged along while John and the older boys hunted.

After Moving to Missouri, Hellene became active in several social and service organizations.  She was a member of the Rolla Lioness Club, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a local quilting guild, and several other organizations in the Rolla area.

Hellene and John took dancing lessons after moving to Rolla.  They loved to dance and were even members of a group called Dipsy Doodle dance.

Hellene knew how to have fun and was always surrounded by fun people.

In the more recent years, multiple generations of people in Rolla have affectionately come to know her as “Jama”, a nickname given to her by her oldest Grandson, Brandt.

Hellene was preceded in death by her Father, Alfred Fritz Henricks, her mother Avo (Blair) Henrichs), her Sister, Della Henrichs, a brother Ronnie Henrichs, and her grandson, Brayden Kress Tharp.

She leaves behind her husband in the home John Ellis Tharp, sons Michael D. Tharp of Martinsburg WV, Kevin W. Tharp and Wife Tina, of Eau Clare WI, James K. Tharp and Wife Melissa of Rolla Missouri, and a daughter Melanie T. Tharp of Springfield MO.  She also leaves a brother, James F. Henrichs of Texas, Grand Daughters Olivia P. Tharp, Morgan E Tharp and Syble G. McGlothlin, Grandsons Brandt F. Tharp, Jax E. Tharp, and Alexander J. Tharp, and one great grandson Tucker K. Long, as well as several nieces, Nephews, and many friends.

Vita was born February 16, 1955 in Beloit, WI, daughter of Michael and Angela (Passalaqua) Andreola. Vita graduated from Beloit Catholic High School, Beloit, WI and later received her associate degree from UW Rock County.  Vita was a homemaker and a teachers aid at St. Patrick's School where she retired in 2018.

Larry was born November 7, 1947 in Rockford, IL son of Donald and Mary Lou (Bubser) French. Larry graduated from Boylan High School, Rockford, IL.  Proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict.  Later received his BS degree in Political Science and Psychology from NIU.  Larry retired from Doe Run in 2011 where he was Human Resources Manager.

Vita and Larry were united in marriage on October 16, 1976, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Beloit, WI.

Vita and Larry were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Rolla, MO, where Larry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2627.

Vita enjoyed shopping and her many trips to St. Louis to visit friends.  Larry enjoyed golfing and his fishing trips to Wisconsin.  Vita and Larry were loving parents to Megan.

The couple were loving and caring to all who knew them.  Together they enjoyed their trips to San Diego and their timeshare in Tennessee.

Vita is survived by two sisters, Phyllis (Dave) Garner, Beloit, WI, and Angie (Gary) Risseeuw, Clinton WI.  Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many special friends whose lives she touched.

In addition to her parents Vita was predeceased by daughter Megan and brother Daniel Andreola.

Larry is survived by brother Timothy (Gayle) French, Rockford, IL and sister Lisa French, Petaluma, CA.  Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many special friends whose lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by daughter Megan.

Visitation will be held from 9:00am until 11:00am on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla, MO.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am with Father Greg Mystrick as the Celebrant.  Interment in Rolla City Cemetery, where they will be laid to rest next to their daughter Megan.

Leslie was an avid St Louis Cardinals Fan.  She enjoyed looking at antiques and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of forty-seven years, Leslie is survived by two sons, Brad Fitzgerald and his better half Carol Miller of Waynesville and Jeff Fitzgerald and his wife Dawn of Robertsville; seven grandchildren, Allen, Kyle, Derek, Jayden, Austin, Gabby, and Ally.

Obituary Preview: Virgene Gayle Becker, 87, died April 16, 2021 at her home in Rolla, Missouri. She was born to Eli and Lottie (Irvine) Parry on December 6, 1933 in Primghar, Iowa.

Virgene graduated from the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota in 1955. After graduating, Virgene and a fellow graduate camped their way across the country before landing in Casper, Wyoming.  On December 28th of 1961 in Casper, Virgene married Lawrence D. Becker. They lived for many years in Huron, South Dakota before relocating to Rolla in 1982. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before Larry’s death. Virgene worked as a RN in Huron and then finished her career at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in the Intensive Care ward.

Virgene enjoyed square dancing with her husband, Larry. She and Larry also enjoyed traveling, cruising to Alaska, the Caribbean and New England, often with Duane and Cheryl Becker, Larry’s brother and sister-in-law. She played a good hand of Pinochle with her family. Virgene’s passion, however, was volunteering with the First United Methodist Church’s food pantry and later with the Grace food pantry.

Virgene is survived by her son, Kurt, of Rolla; son, Phil of Kansas City, his wife Nancy and his daughter Shae of St. Louis; and son, Eric, his wife Sharon and son Logan of Erie, Pa. In addition to her parents and brothers, she was predeceased by Larry in 2014.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist in Rolla where she and Larry attended. Service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 13, 2021. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

A loving and caring husband and father, Randy was a successful businessman and an avid outdoorsman.  He genuinely loved meeting new people and catching up with old friends.  Politics was a favorite topic of discussion. As social as he was, Randy also enjoyed life on the farm and working his cows. Hunting with the boys and running a family-owned business with Kathy by his side brought him the greatest joy.

He graduated from Rolla High School, Class of 1978 and then Central Missouri State University.  Randy worked for Military Sales and Services, Kimberly Clark, and started Randy’s Country-Time BBQ mobile catering which led to him launching his own restaurant Randy’s Roadkill BBQ & Grill which has been featured in several regional and national publications.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Sauer) Hrovat, his sons, Blaine and Samuel; Sister Kinleigh Rosenauer; Mother-in- law Patricia Sauer; Brothers and Sisters-in-law John & Katie Sauer, Elizabeth & David McMindes, Carl & Bridget Sauer, Robert & Bev Sauer, Debbie & Brad Larsen, Vicki & Jeff Pigg, Val Crawford, Joe & Susan Sauer; as well as many nieces & nephews.

A memorial mass will be held at 4:00 on Thursday, March 18th at St Patrick’s Catholic Church followed by a Celebration of Life from 6-8 at Randy’s Roadkill Restaurant.

Michael "Mike" Edward Estey - September 24, 1950 - March 03, 2021

Obituary Preview: Mike Estey of Rolla, Missouri died peacefully on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 at the age of 70 with his family by his side after a yearlong battle with cancer.  He was born on September 24th, 1950 in Sac City Iowa, son of James and Clarice (Vanderpool) Estey.

Mike loved the lake and the ocean. One of the first things he did after graduating from Rolla High School was to teach Scuba lessons at a summer camp in the Bahamas. Later, he attended Diver’s Training Academy in Miami Florida where he was certified as a Deep Sea Diver.  After working as a diver in Tarpon Springs and in California, he joined a group of divers who traveled to Honduras to do shipwreck and treasure diving. He returned to Rolla in 1972 to work with his father at Estey Jewelry. Soon after arriving, he met the love of his life, Deborah (Staggs), and they were married June 9, 1973.  While working for Estey Jewelry, he became a Certified Gemologist and worked as a jeweler for 17 years.  After closing the store, he spent the next 29 years as Operations Manager of Missouri Southern Seed Company until his retirement in 2017.

Mike was a loving, thoughtful husband and father and loved nothing more than being home with his family and being around the lake and the ocean.  Mike and Debbie were blessed to be able to do a lot of travelling during their 47 years of marriage. Mike enjoyed hunting, playing golf, reading and spending time with his family and friends at the lake or beach. In addition to his wife Debbie, he is survived by his son, Brian of St. Louis, Missouri, his daughter, Heather Addington and husband, Matt, grandchildren, Abigail and Ethan of Riverview Florida, a brother, Eric of St. Louis and his mother, Clarice Estey of Rolla.   He was predeceased by his father, James Estey.

Mike was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, served on the Vestry and volunteered with the Open Door Ministry, the Back Pack program and GRACE.

A private memorial service for family will be held at Christ Episcopal Church with a Celebration of Life for friends and family at a later date.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Friday Back Pack Program under Hope Alliance of Missouri, GRACE, or Christ Episcopal Church.

David is survived by his wife Colene M. Pound of Edgar Springs; son David Pound Jr, of Edgar Springs and his 6 children – Davie, Destiny, Gunner, Colton, River and Layne; son Dennis Pound and his wife Linda and their 3 children – Dylan, Logan and Adalyn, of Rolla; brother Richard Pound of St. Louis; brother Dan Pound, his wife Brenda and family of Rolla; sister Debbie Kemper, her husband Richard and family of Newburg; close family friend Jamie Mesa of Rolla; his “little buddy” Deeogee; and a host of other family members and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Pound.

David was an avid hunter who was completely at home in the outdoors.  He loved sharing his many hunting stories.  He enjoyed watching the St Louis Blues and Cardinals, but nothing was more enjoyable for him than watching his children and grandchildren play their game of choice.  David was athletic himself and played years of softball and volleyball.  There was nothing mechanical that David could not fix and enjoyed working and talking about classic autos.  David had a free spirit and was always ready to hit the open road on his Harley and see where it would lead.  Taking his “little buddy” Deeogee on a short drive everyday was part of his routine.  He loved to laugh and spend time with his family.  He always had a big smile and he never met a stranger.  He was loved and known by many as “Big Dave”.

When David was diagnosed, he sought every reasonable medical intervention to restore his health and maintain a good quality of life.  While David will be dearly missed by all who knew him, he would want everyone to know that he was prepared and ready to meet his Lord and Savior.

Everyone will be welcome to a Celebration of David’s Life which will be determined at a future date and time.
