Mary was born on January 12, 1929 in Lake City, Iowa to Harold and Mattie (Platt) Powell and was raised on the family farm 5 miles west of Rockwell City Iowa. Mary attended the one room grade school in Lake Creek Township and graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1947.Mary was united in marriage to Robert Gregory on August 23, 1953 in Omaha, NE and moved to the Gregory family farm close to both parents. Preceding Mary in death were her parents Harold and Mattie (Platt) Powell, husband Robert Gregory, son Brent Gregory, sister Georgia Kostos, and brothers Max Powell and Craig Powell.Mary worked for GTE until she married in 1953, then returned to work as a telephone operator until retirement in 1986. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rockwell City and an active participant in the Methodist Women’s Circle. She raised her children and worked alongside Robert on the farm. After Mary moved from the farm to Rockwell City she was able to enjoy a community with people she had known for years and made herself available to bake the pies, make the salad or help others get to appointments. She developed lasting friendships with her Red Hat Ladies group and especially was able to enjoy going places – local and international. Taking road trips allowed her to partake in a favorite pastime of shopping, visiting auctions or perusing antique storesMary will be missed by her brother Ron Powell (Maebelle) and nieces and nephews, four daughters – Brenda Crum (Frank) of Odessa, Florida, Kim Herd (Alan) of Houston, Texas, Alisa Gregory (Dale) of San Antonio, Texas and Lori Griess (Wendell) of Urbandale, Iowa as well as granddaughter Brittany Morales (Marlon) and their children Liam, Brielle and Sophia and granddaughter Brianna Rossmanith (Alex) and their children Emmett and Jack.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday May 18, 2024 at Laufersweiler Palmer-Swank Funeral Home in Rockwell City. There will be a visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Saturday. Private family burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.

He was a huge John Deere fan and loved acquiring antiques and other collectables. Jeff spent 40 plus years organizing and running softball in Jolley. He always participated in charity events and fundraisers whether it was grilling food or lending a helping hand. He was always willing to help anyone in need and had a love for each and every child he encountered. He was the most stubborn, generous, asshole you’d ever met.Memorials will be donated to the local foodbank.

Peggy worked at Clark’s Supermarket for many years, making friendships that lasted her entire lifetime. On June 19, 1999, she was united in marriage to Martin Hildreth. Martin passed away on October 20, 2023. Peggy’s heart was full of unwavering faith in God. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, and very active in many aspects of the Church. She served on numerous committees and taught Sunday School for many years when her children were young. Peggy enjoyed being involved in many other activities including supporting the Rockwell City Depot Museum, attending the Calhoun County Wagon Train events, and spending countless hours at the Iowa State Fair with her husband Martin. Peggy was a passionate supporter of the Relay for Life event and had a faithful team that showed up every year to walk in her honor as a cancer survivor, and in support of others battling this horrific disease. She was an avid collector of Elvis memorabilia, greatly enjoyed her trip to Memphis, and adored him as her celebrity crush for many years. In October 2022, Peggy made her home at Sunnyview Independent Living in Rockwell City.Peggy was a caring mom, mother-in-law, grandma, great-grandma, and friend. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind heart, and compassionate spirit.The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support, including Gentiva Hospice and the care team at Accura Healthcare of Lake City.

The couple made their home in Rockwell City. Sue operated This & That Clothing Store at their home, did bookkeeping for Rastetter Plumbing & Heating, and was a visitation hostess at the funeral home for many years. Terry passed away in 2012. Sue was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the Church Bell Choir.

Jean was raised in Auburn, Iowa where she graduated from Auburn High School, with the Class of 1946. Jean continued her education and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Jean taught school at Jewell and Rockwell City. On August 3, 1952 she was united in marriage to William Peck
and the couple established their home in Rockwell City. They divorced in 1974. Jean was a assistant teacher at Happy Face Preschool from 1973 to 1979 and then a preschool teacher from 1979 to 1990. Jean continued working at Sunnyview Independent Living until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran and Presbyterian Church, and had taught Sunday School and Children’s

Wally farmed in the Jolley and Rockwell City area. From 2008 to 2016 the couple lived the Dominican Republic. They returned to Iowa and made their home in Fort Dodge. He served eight years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1972, he was united in marriage to Theresa Stoos. Dick worked 7 years for the Department of Human Services and completed his working career with 23 years for the Department of Corrections. Dick has enjoyed retirement life since 2002. In 2010, Dick was honored as the Rockwell City Rotary Outstanding Citizen for his years of community service. Dick was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell City Rotary Club, Kid’s Kingdom Volunteer, City Park Court Fundraiser, and numerous other activities.

Bill was the manager of the city of Rockwell City for a period of time, before he found interest and owned carnival rides and concessions with Baumann Shows Amusement business. He spent 20 years in the carnival business before becoming the manager of the Webster County Fairgrounds, where he spent the next 15 years before his retirement. Bill was a passionate fan of dirt track racing and was an avid collector and dealer of toy tractors, especially ERTL.

In the fall of 1961, she was hired by the law firm of Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt as a receptionist, a position she held until her retirement in 1992.During her almost 65 years of marriage to Bill, they camped, fished and water skied at many of the lakes and rivers in Oregon. Janice and Bill learned to square dance which took them to various places in the US, Canada and two Caribbean cruises. Her son Dale married Sharon Scherrer on July 6, 1985, and then Janice became a grandmother on August 28, 1990, when her grandson Jacob was born. Janice and Bill retired in 1992 and moved to Yuma, AZ. While in Yuma, they each took up golf and became involved in their church, Stone Ridge. While in Yuma, her sister Sandi (Norm) and her brother Jerry (Patty) also came to Yuma to enjoy the sunshine. They had the best of times golfing, dining together, and spending time with each other.
