William "Bill" Ward - July 19, 1931 - February 26, 2022

Obituary Preview: On February 26, 2022, William V. "Bill" Ward passed away peacefully while surrounded by his beloved family in his Swissvale home.  He was 90 years old.  Born in 1931 in Braddock, PA. he was the devoted husband of 66 years to Gertrude (Pollack), loving father of William and Patricia (Dr. John Fazio), and beloved Pop Pop of John and Grace Fazio.  He was preceded in death by his late parents William S. and Ann, and his sisters Elizabeth, Patricia, and Mary Lou.  He graduated from St. Fidelis seminary in 1949 and then became employed at National Biscuit Co. in East Liberty, where he met his future wife.  He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1952 for service during the Korean War, spending two years at Ft. Belvoir, VA.  He returned home in 1954, and in 1955 he and Gertrude were married.  He then began work at US Steel's Edgar Thomson Works, serving for 43 years at the Braddock mill.  In 1962, he also became involved in the bowling business, and eventually owned and operated the Swissvale Arcade Lanes from 1981 to 1995 as a family venture.  He retired in 1995, spending his retirement as an immensely proud, loving, fun, and devoted grandfather.  Bill loved to golf, and bowl, Pittsburgh sports, his hunting camp in Clearfield, trips to Geneva on-the-Lake, a clever joke, a good song, and a cold beer.  Above all, he loved and cherished his family, and his gentle spirit, sense of humor, and unfailing kindness will be missed beyond words.  Family and friends will be received from 10 am until noon on Tuesday March 1, 2022, at the Robert P. Karish Funeral Home, Brinton Rd and Fourth Street. Daniel J. Zdrojkowski - November 30, 1948 - January 08, 2022

Obituary Preview: On the morning of January 8, 2022 in Verona, PA., Daniel J. Zdrojkowski, passed away peacefully from this world.  He was born in 1948 in Braddock to the late Walter and Jane (Krawczewicz) Zdrojkowski.  In 1951 the family moved to Forest Hills where Dan spent his childhood and much of his adult life.  Dan attended St. Maurice Grade School and Churchill Area High School.  Soon after graduation, he began work at the Edgar Thompson Works of US Steel, retiring in 2000.  Danny was a dedicated fan of Pittsburgh sports, especially the Penguins, Steelers and Pitt Football.  He had a passion for cars and was meticulous with their care and maintenance.  He enjoyed watching TV game shows and was an avid reader of mysteries, especially those by author James Patterson.  Daniel is survived by his brother, Ronald and sister-in-law, Mary Ann of Pittsburgh, his sister, Paulette Hill, of Allentown, NJ; niece, Jane C. Bonus of Milton, MA and nephew James L. Hill of Melrose, MA and two great nephews.  Daniel was preceded by his younger sister, Janice Zdrojkowski.  A memorial service will be private for the family at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Robert P. Craig, 99, of Cabot, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 4, 2022 at Concordia Lutheran.  She previously resided in Wilkinsburg and Swissvale.  She was born in Winterburn, PA and was a daughter of the late George and Margaret DeLong.  Marion retired from the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf where she had been employed until her retirement in 1992 following 25 years of dedicated service.  She truly loved working with pre-school children at the School for the Deaf where she developed many friendships with her co-workers.  Marion was a very kind and gentle soul who never had an unkind word for anyone.  She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.  Marion is survived by her two children, Barbara J. Wiggins and her husband, Tom, of Swisshelm Park and Derek F. Craig and his wife Linda of Butler; in addition, Marion leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Tom (Beth) Wiggins, John (Laurie) Wiggins, Jim Wiggins, Joe (Heidy) Wiggins, David (Robin) Wiggins, Michael (Beth) Craig, Lauren (Brad) Zandier, and Randall Craig; also 12 great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robinson W. Born August 20, 1933, in Detroit, MI, Marty was the youngest of seven and is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Margaret (Monaghan) Dickson of Detroit, and her late husband Edward Downey of Bethel Park. She is survived by “four of the best kids,” Maureen Donofrio (Tom), Pat Downey (Janice Anderson), Dennis Downey, and Kathleen Grehl (Todd) as well as four loving grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Our mother was a devoted Catholic who loved to win at bingo. A lifelong baseball fan, she was steadfast and always optimistic about the Pirates. In season, she hung the Pirate Parrot on her front door. We are so appreciative of the wonderful care that she received at Juniper Village of Forest Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial followed by internment will be private for the family. Obituary Preview: Rose Maticic Speranza, 92, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away September 3, 2021.  She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and resided there until moving to Jacksonville in 2003.
Rose will be remembered for her sense of humor and fun-loving nature.  She loved to dance, especially to the music of Slovenian polka bands at clubs in the Pittsburgh area.  Rose always stepped out on the town as a fashionista, whether it be to see a movie, go out to lunch with friends, or to the mall to add to her already overflowing wardrobe.  She never missed an opportunity to engage in conversation.  Rose brightened the days of everyone she met.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Keith) Brinker, of Jacksonville, her grandson, Justin Brinker, of Chicago, the light of her life; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Speranza; her husband of 30 years, Frank Maticic; sister Mary Pieszak; and sister Frances Staresinic.

Jack Stoner, age 25, of Braddock Hills died unexpectedly on May 17, 2021.  Somewhere behind the athlete, behind the coaches, and behind the hours of practice, is a kid that fell in love with the game and never looked back.  Jack was that athlete, he was the kid you could always find out on the field with his teammates, his band of brothers, doing what he loved most; playing softball.  Jack was the beloved son of Leslie (Kareis) (Paulie) Stoner and the late Jack Stoner; loving brother of Leighann (Eric) Manion, Jessica (Jim) Popp and Taylor (Evan) Lucas.  He was an amazing uncle to Jace, Aurora, Jordan and E.J.; caring boyfriend to Starr DeJesus; nephew to Matt (Michelle) Kareis; cousin to Jackie (Tony) Parasky, Michael Simko, Zack (Anne) Simko, and Caitlin (Cody) Hayden, an adored friend to so many.  Jack was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Doris (Herd) Kareis and Jack Stoner; his uncle Paul Kareis and aunt Cathy Stoner.  To say he will be missed is quite the understatement.  Although his time on earth was cut short, we know heaven gained the most perfect angel whose memories will live on in all of us forever. Shandrick, age 64, originally from Pittsburgh, PA, of Dallas TX, passed away, Monday, March 30, 2020, at Middle City North Hills Hospital in Texas of the COVID-19.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Angeline (Fonzi) Shandrick, brother, Paul Shandrick, Jr. and great nephew, Cole Shandrick.  He is survived by his brother John Shandrick, sister in-law, Lisa (Dinardo) Shandrick, nephews, John Shandrick, Jr. (Caroline), Ryan Shandrick (Jessica), great niece, Violet Angeline, his loving, long-time partner of 20 years, Heath Stuteville, and many cousins and friends.Robert was born in Pittsburgh, PA, February 24, 1956.  He graduated from St. Thomas High School, Braddock, PA in 1974.  He left Pittsburgh in 1987 to pursue his career and shortly after, settled in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where he was employed as a Principal Program Manager for Sabre Airline Solutions.Robert loved his family, was proud of his nephews and thrilled to have a great niece.  Robert enjoyed tending to his many plants, was particular about his swimming pool, and loved traveling and spending time with his loving partner, Heath.  Bobby, as he was lovingly called, will be greatly missed by everyone he touched.  His funny stories will be missed and his laugh was contagious.  His laugh came from his belly and bellowed out.  He always could make you laugh.Due to today’s circumstances, a Roman Catholic Mass and a family, friend get together to celebrate Robert’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
