Elizabeth "Muggsy" Klein - April 01, 1935 - March 08, 2022

Departed: 03/08/2022 (Toledo)
Obituary Preview: Elizabeth "Muggsy" Klein died on March 8, 2022. Muggsy was born in Detroit, Michigan on April Fool's Day, 1935 to Henry and Delia Meyers, who were community, philanthropic, religious and social leaders. Her mother died when Muggsy was 11, and her father died when she was a freshman at the University of Michigan. With the help of Joan, Muggsy's older sister, and many family members, Muggsy became self-reliant and independent.
She met her love, Dick, shortly after arriving at Michigan, on a blind date. They were happily married in 1955 and were loving partners for 66 years. She and Dick continued on to Columbus, Ohio for his Dental Education, where she graduated from the Ohio State University with a B.A. in Speech. After graduation, they moved back to Ottawa Hills where Dick had grown up and where he began his dental practice.
Muggsy and Dick had two children, Deborah and Dan. Muggsy was an influential member of her community, becoming active in multiple philanthropic groups as well as various Ottawa Hills parents' support groups. She was a co-chair of the joint National Council of Jewish Women/Junior League of Toledo's First Annual Book Mart at Westgate as well as serving in leadership posts with the Jewish Federation of Toledo.
Muggsy was an extremely competitive athlete, enjoying all types of sports, but particularly golf, at which she was very accomplished. She served as President of the Toledo Women's District Golf Association, as well as winning various club championships at Glengarry Country Club and Inverness Club. She was a fierce competitor on the golf course and worked on her game intensely. She was happy to see that her children and granddaughters also followed her passions of athletics and physical activity. She was totally involved in, and proud of, Deborah's tennis career in high school and college, as well as Dan's success in his high school and college golf teams.
From their nursery schools through high schools, she never missed her four granddaughters' participation in soccer, gymnastics, track, cross country, swim meets, basketball, lacrosse, golf tournaments, performances, awards ceremonies, presentations, and concerts. She loved being "on call" for baby- sitting, school delays and car pools.
She also maintained lifelong friendships from her camp days, her college days and had a group of dearly loved friends who met as young couples and continued to spend treasured time together over the last 60+ years. In addition to her husband Dick, their close Toledo friends were a constant in Muggsy's life.
Muggsy loved being outside and she especially loved flowers. She discovered a passion for fresh flowers in the home from Dottie Mindel and passed that on to other members of her family.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Mindel Klein; daughter, Deborah Ellen Klein, of Washington, D.C.; son, Daniel Meyers Klein (Robin), of Charleston, S.C.; granddaughters, Alexandra, Madeline, Katerina, and Katya Klein; sister, Joan Jampel; sister-in-law, Linda Klein; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Heide Klein; and her loving nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Services will be held on Friday March 11, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Temple Shomer Emunim 6453 W. Sylvania Ave. Sylvania, Ohio. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.

Frances Mostov - March 31, 1924 - January 04, 2022

Departed: 01/04/2022 (Toledo)
Obituary Preview: Frances Mostov 1924-2022
Toledo native and long time resident, Fran Mostov passed away this week in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, her home since 1999, at the age of 97.
Fran was the daughter of attorney Joseph Gluck and his wife Rose, of Toledo and graduated from Scott High School in 1942. She graduated from the University of Toledo where she was active in the local chapter of the American Association of University Women.
At her graduation from TU, Frannie met the love of her life, Dave Mostov, who was attending the ceremony to celebrate his sister, Shirley, a classmate of Fran's. Also attending his sister's graduation was Dan Gluck, who Dave knew from his years at TU. Dan introduced the recently returned Naval officer to Frannie and the rest was history.
After marrying Dave in 1947, Frannie turned her attention to volunteer work and to raising their three children, Charles, Julie and Elizabeth.
She held leadership positions in several organizations including Planned Parenthood, AAUW, the Alumni Association of the University of Toledo and Collingwood Avenue Temple.
At the Temple, now Shomer Emunim in Sylvania, she was President of the Women's Association (Sisterhood) and also served as President of the Women's Board of the Jewish Federation of Toledo. Frannie was also active as a fundraiser and volunteer for The Red Cross, The Toledo Museum of Art, The Toledo Symphony Orchestra, The United Jewish Appeal and United Way. She gave her time to aiding in the surgical waiting room at Toledo Hospital, the Planned Parenthood Clinic and spent countless Election Days as a volunteer at the polls. Her community activism rubbed off on her children, who have gone on to take active rolls in their local communities in the arts, Women's rights and health issues, animal rescue and politics.
Fran and Dave moved to Devonshire in Palm Beach Gardens in 1999, where she instantly took up where she left off in Toledo, volunteering to serve on the community's advisory committee, the resident council and on the culinary committee, which she chaired for several years. She also wrote a column for the Devonshire Times and served on its council.
Fran was devoted to her friends, some of who joined her at Devonshire after moving from Toledo and many other new ones she met and cherished in Florida. Even after losing David in 2005, she kept her optimistic and engaging spirit embracing life and the many blessings she felt life offered her.
Fran was the last of her generation of the Mostov family and was looked to as a source of joy and wisdom. Her elegance, charm, and generosity as well as her passion for social justice will be missed by her family and friends.
Fran is survived by her son, Charles (Dori, Rachel, and great-grand baby, Aurora) of Los Angeles; and daughters, Julie and Elizabeth who both live in New York; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Among the groups and organizations in which she was active were the Toledo Women's Club where she served as an officer and member of the Board of Trustees, Mobile Meals of Toledo in which she was a charter member active in the launch of this program in the Toledo area and also a member of the Board of Directors, and Satellites of the Medical College of Ohio where she served as Public Relations Chairman and also as a member of the Board of Trustees. In addition, Corinne Krakoff served as President of the Toledo Dental Auxiliary and as an officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Women's Auxiliary of the Ohio Dental Association at the local, state, and national levels. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Toledo Hospital Auxiliary, was a founding member of Project Hope in Toledo, and served as Chairman of Rare Books for Bookmart Toledo in its first three years in association with the Junior League and the Council of Jewish Women. Corinne was especially passionate about her involvement with Promedica, a non-profit health care system with locations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan via her affiliation with its Board. She was also an energetic advocate for hospice services in northwest Ohio and was instrumental as a volunteer in the creation of the Promedica Ebeid Hospice. It was, therefore, fitting that she was a patient at Ebeid when she passed.
Corinne Krakoff was a dedicated mother and very engaged in the lives of her two sons, David and Steven, during their years at Horace Mann Elementary School where she served as a room mother and where she was active in the PTA. She was a devoted and beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Jay Alan Linver - February 17, 1960 - December 16, 2021

Departed: 12/16/2021 (Toledo)
Obituary Preview: Jay A. Linver
Jay A. Linver of Toledo passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021. He was born in Toledo on February 17, 1960, to Charles and Alice Linver. He met the love of his life, Eva Beauregard, in 1987 and after a fun-filled courtship, married her on November 16, 1991.
As a teenager, Jay loved dirt bikes and muscle cars. He began working for his dad at Central Auto Parts, which helped support his hobby. He eventually became a truck driver and started working for United Parcel Service (UPS) as a feeder driver in 1999. He loved being on the open road and making friends wherever he went.  He truly made some great friends along the way.
Jay loved taking family vacations. You would’ve thought that with all of the driving that he did for work, that he would want to take a break and fly somewhere. But no, not him. NO AIRPLANES ALLOWED!  He loved spending time with family and attended several concerts with the girls. When the girls were little, if he wasn’t at a dance recital,  a softball game, or a track meet, he loved to just hang out with his kiddos.  He loved to hang out with his grandchildren.
For the past several years, Jay enjoyed camping with a group of friends, who refer to themselves as the Turtle Family.  He felt a certain freedom in the outdoors.  This past summer, Jay was able to check off “the biggest fish he ever caught” from his bucket list. He had so much fun doing it. He enjoyed his time with friends at dance parties and he particularly enjoyed getting dressed up for the Halloween parties.
Jay was a huge Michigan fan and never left the house without his maize and blue hat on his head.  Go Blue! The Cleveland Browns also lost a diehard fan and we all know that they cannot afford to lose many more.
Jay is survived by his loving wife; his sister, Laurie Sheahan, his three children, Amber Moore, Emily (Derrick) Davis and Haley Linver; his two grandchildren, Morgan and Beau Swearingen; and his two grandpuppies, Bronx and Nyla.  He is also survived by his extensive in-law family to include, Edward (Jey) Beauregard, Rosalind (Earl) Christen, Mary Ellen (Eric) Gordon, Rose (Johnnie) Bryce, Jess (Monica) Beauregard, Louise Beauregard, Kathy Brewer and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Thomas Sheahan; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Rose Beauregard.
A memorial service will be held at Wisniewski & Wick Funeral Home on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11:00a.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 10a.m. For those wishing to view a recording of the service please CLICK HERE

Departed: 12/09/2021 (Toledo)
Obituary Preview: Betty Slotnick, 93, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on December 9, 2021, with her daughter by her side. She was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Isaac and Freida Kline. Betty graduated from high school and then moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she met her husband, Harry. They moved around for a few years, finally settling in Toledo. She worked as a secretary for many years until her daughter was born, and then she stayed home full-time.
She was a most beloved person to all she encountered and had lots of friends throughout her lifetime. She was always a great listener and gave unconditional love and support to those around her. Her voice was beautiful, and she loved to sing. Just last week, she sang with her daughter as they walked down the hall together.
Betty was always up for an impromptu shopping trip, a meal in a restaurant, tickets to the theater, or traveling anywhere. A family trip to St. Lucia was one of the highlights of her last few years. Her humor was unparalleled, and she loved a good joke. Even as her condition worsened, her humor stayed intact.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Lisa; granddaughter, Haley; son-in-law, Norbert; special friend, Zack; many other special people from the Bickford of Scioto; and numerous family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, her cat, and all of her siblings.

Robert O. Tate, Jr. - July 16, 1956 - December 04, 2021

Departed: 12/04/2021 (Toledo)
Obituary Preview: When Robert Tate, Jr. was born July 16th, 1956, the Tate family household was never the same. As the last of the lineage spawned by Hattie and Robert, Sr., "Bobby", as he was affectionately known to family, became the apple of everyone's eye, including his brother Paul and his sisters Sandra and Teresa.
Bob was quite a sports fan, but baseball was his prime selection, yet he eventually became most proficient in table tennis or, what we know as Ping Pong. He developed quite a reputation as a Ping Pong competitor during his days at Bluffton University in Ohio from which he received his bachelor's degree in biology.
The Scott High School graduate (class of '73, "Always a Bulldog!") worked at Toledo area hospitals for many years, but his dream was to own and operate a funeral home. That idea blossomed to fruition after he attended and graduated from the Wayne State College of Mortuary Science in Detroit and opened his first funeral home on Detroit Avenue, in Toledo, built from the ground up.
After altruistically serving the Toledo community's mortuary needs for several decades, Bob restructured his career and left the mortuary business for a few years, but he was later called back to his first love. He opened another funeral home as Tate Funeral Services, located on Broadway Street, moving later to another location on Lagrange Street, before finally closing.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Robert, Sr. and Hattie; brother, Paul Duhart; and niece, Donya Duhart. Survivors include his son, Robert, III; sisters, Sandra M. Davis and Teresa T. Brown; nieces, Mona Smith, Anne-Marie Brown and Kristian Brenneman (Tirrell); nephews, Tim Coates, Paul Duhart, Jr., Richard O. Brown III, and Justin S. Davis; family friends, Scottie Rodgers, Raynard Cooper, Theotis Smith, Todd McFadden, Rev. William Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Tate's interment is at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial scholarship contributions in his name can be mailed to the Alpha XI Lambda chapter of Alphi Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., P.O. Box 351061, Toledo, 43635, or electronically, $AXLScholarship. Memories or condolences can be shared at: wisniewskifuneral.net
Thank you to The Rev. Dr. Michael Carr, Temple of Praise Church, Maumee. www.wisniewskifuneral.net
