Obituary Preview: Janet K. Kreienbrink, age 79, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 11:58 pm at Kindred Hospital, Lima, Ohio.  She graduated from Churubusco High School and received her Associate in Business degree from St. Francis College. She was a domestic engineer.  Janet was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke where she belonged to the Rosary Society and was a cook for the senior citizen meals.  She also belonged to Women of the Moose in Columbia City and served as a Girl Scout leader and Boy Scout den mother. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, find-a-word puzzles and games on the computer.
Janet was born August 19, 1942, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of LeRoy and Dorothy (Sherbahn) Hickman.  On April 28, 1962 she married her beloved husband of 59 years Jerry Kreienbrink in Huntington.  He survives in Roanoke. Also surviving are two daughters Christine (Edward) Brames of Woodburn, and Marla (Stan) Bowman of Roann, a son Ronald (Ann) Kreienbrink of  New Haven, 7 grandchildren Diana (Chris) Beard, Bryan (Lori) Bowman, Kathy (Stu) Luthe, Matthew Bowman, Elizabeth (Roberto) Melendez, Cindy Kreienbrink, James (Casey) Brames, 7 great-grandchildren Colton, Barrett, Anthony, Elena, Theo, Eli and baby girl to be born in April, and a sister Mary (James) Felger of Avila.  She was preceded in death by two brothers Glenn Hickman and Von Fisher.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 31, from 2-4 and 5-7 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes with a rosary service at 2:00 pm, Visitation will also be held Friday, April 1 from 9-10 am preceding the 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Roanoke.

Obituary Preview: Anne Elise Hasty, age 69, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 9:44 pm at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.  Anne graduated from Huntington North High School in 1971 and from Fort Wayne School of Nursing.  She worked as a school nurse at Roanoke, for Dr. Cooper in Roanoke then for Geriatrics INC in New Haven when Dr. Cooper went there, and then back to Roanoke when Dr. Schweiterman set up his practice. She was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church, Roanoke, Women Who Care, Knit Chicks and Red Hatters.
Anne was born November 20, 1952, in Huntington, a daughter of Verlin and Phyllis Dawn (Kelsey) Witherow.  On August 19,1972 she married her beloved husband of 49 years Mike Hasty in Roanoke, and he survives in Roanoke. Also surviving are two sons Joshua (Tricia) Hasty of Huntington and Nathan Hasty of St. Louis, MO, a daughter Erin (Tony) Dearduff of Huntington, five grandchildren Jacob, Isaac, Sarah Dearduff and Dylan and Morgan Hasty, a sister Lana Sue Leeger of Plainwell, MI and a brother David (Judy) Witherow of Sharpsville.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 15 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm preceding the 12:00 pm funeral service at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Butch was born December 15, 1953, in Columbia City, to Talmage and Merlie (Creech) Sparks.  Butch started R L Sparks Trucking and Repair in 1984.  In 1999 he went on to partner with his wife Cinda to start Sparks Trucking and Excavating.  He retired in 2019 to travel in their RV.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Cinda (Briner) Sparks; three children Jared (Heather) Sparks, Audra (Jeff) Uher, Sara (Scott) McQueen; 7 grandchildren Avery and Conner Sparks, Austin, Brock, and Kash Uher, Kyla and Jaelyn McQueen; a brother Wendell (Naoma) Sparks, two sisters Denise (Trent) Ellis, Jeanine Sparks, stepmother Janet Sparks and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, riding his Harley and watching his grandson race his dirt bike.
Robert was born June 8, 1951, in Huntington, a son of Robert DeLoss and Aladean (Swing) Weaver.  He is survived by two sons Randy (Heather) Weaver of Warsaw and Ryan Weaver of North Manchester, daughter Rachael (Aaron) Wagner of Russellville, Kentucky, eight grandchildren Austin, Caiden, Reagon, Easton, Ashley, Lindsey, Hanna and Chloe and former wife Teresa Shepherd.  He was preceded in death by a sister Brenda Felger and his beloved miniature pinscher Rudy.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 25 from 4-8 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes and Saturday, February 26 from 10-11 am preceding the 11:00 am funeral service at the funeral home. Maxine was born August 2, 1929, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Ralph P. and Josephine Mary (Schoeff) Steinbacher.  She is survived by a son Robert F. Dugan Jr, of Roanoke, a daughter Vanessa L. Ditton of Churubusco, two grandchildren Jeff (Dawna) Ditton and Emily Smith, and two great-grandsons Xavier and Alexander Smith.  She was preceded in death by two sisters Darlene Hyser and Beverly Gruesbeck.

Long and Leona (Myer) Miller. Along with her mother she was raised by her loving stepfather, Tracy Miller.  On April 10, 1948 she married her beloved husband of 69 years Harold Arnett in San Diego, California. He passed away June 29, 2017. She is survived by a son Steven (Barbara) Arnett of Fort Wayne, 2 daughter's Verna (Larry) Williams of Huntington, and Deborah Dauscher of Roanoke, 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Jean had taught a Good News Club and was a Jr. High Sunday School teacher and was active in various Women's bible studies down through the years. She was an accomplished seamstress. Jean loved the Lord, her husband and family.  She had a deep knowledge of Scripture and was highly motivated to share the message of Christ with others.  She is now with her beloved Savior, Lord, husband, and others who have gone before her.   I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)

Paula was born December 22, 1976, in Maravillas, Aguascalientes, Mexico, a daughter of Pablo Avila and Maria Elena (Deluna) Fahl.  Her father survives in Mexico and her mother in Roanoke.  Also surviving are three sisters Laura Avila of Fort Wayne, Alma DeWeese of Warren, Gloria (Richard) May of Fort Wayne, a brother Miguel Avila of California, nieces and nephews Uriah DeWeese, Sierra Holloway, Jadyn Holloway, Aiden DeWeese, Marciano Avila, Leo May, and Barrett May.  She was preceded in death by brother-in-law Danny DeWeese.

Maryann Kummer, age 83, of Roanoke, slipped into her Savior’s arms December 17, 2021 at home, in the presence of her loving family.
Born April 16, 1938, to William and Dorothy (Johnloz) Caston, Maryann graduated from Roanoke High school in 1956 and on July 26, 1959, Maryann married her beloved high-school sweetheart Charles Kummer at Christ’s United Methodist Church.  The two enjoyed over 62 years of marriage; he survives in Roanoke.  Also surviving are sons C. Wayne (Mary) Kummer of Lebanon, Scott (Jennifer) Kummer of Roanoke, and daughter Teresa (Michael) Ladd of Columbia City; 7 grandchildren Tabitha Kummer, Samantha (Mitch) Young, Connor Ladd, Trevor Ladd, Jesa Kummer, Joshua Kummer, and Julianna Kummer, 5 great-grandchildren Corbin & Devin Ulander, and Julia, Dawson, and Huxley Young, and a brother William Caston of California.  She was preceded in death by brothers Michael and James Caston and sister Dolores Ohnesorge.
Maryann retired as secretary/bookkeeper at Nelson Machine & Fabrication in Roanoke, but primarily found her joy as a homemaker, mother, and servant.  A member of Christ’s United Methodist Church since moving to Roanoke in 1947, she served in many capacities from communion steward to the coordination and preparation of countless meals for every conceivable church-based activity.
Many will remember Maryann from her 50+ years in service to the Girl Scouts.  Her tireless efforts in coordination of area day camps and cookie sales resulted in her being awarded the Thanks and Thanks II badges: the highest honors given to adult Girl Scout volunteers for providing exemplary service in a leadership role.  She was also a proud member of the Amicita Homemaker Club for over 50-years.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 20, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes. Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, at Christ’s United Methodist Church, 148 West Third St., Roanoke, with visitation one hour prior.  Grandson Connor Ladd and Pastor Carla Rice will officiate, with grandchildren serving as pall bearers. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Arthur Duane "Dude" Hines - January 03, 1949 - December 05, 2021

Arthur was born January 3, 1949, in Huntington, a son of Carl Bilter and Mary Ellen (Jewell) Hines.  On September 15, 1973 he married his beloved wife of 48 years Sheila Pinney at Seminary United Methodist Church, Roanoke, and she survives in Roanoke.  Also surviving are a son Curtis Hines of Roanoke, a daughter Cara (Jason) Conwell of Roanoke, 3 grandsons Eli, Isaac, and Cyrus Conwell all of Roanoke, and a brother Donald (Karen) Hines of Kentucky.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Ray & Eda Jewell.

Smith, age 78, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 7:26 pm.  She was an avid baker and owned Kenda’s Bake Shoppe in Roanoke in the 70’s & 80’s.  She then owned K & B Landscaping with her husband, and worked at One Summit Square.  She retired as office manager in 2011 from Executive Management Services in Fort Wayne.  Brenda was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Roanoke American Legion Post #160 Auxiliary.  She collected cookbooks and enjoyed trying new recipes, often putting her own special twist on them and using ingredients from her extensive garden.  In addition to vegetables for cooking and canning she enjoyed raising an array of flowers.
Brenda was born June 7, 1943, in Cannelton, IN, a daughter of Monroe Shephard and Hilda A. (Reed) Shephard Fox.  On November 18, 1961 she married her beloved husband of 60 years Kent D. Smith at Seminary United Methodist Church in Roanoke.  He survives in Roanoke.  Also surviving are two sons Kelly D. (Lisa) Smith and Timmothy L. Smith, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters Linda (David) Paulsen of Garrett and Patricia Shephard-Kaylor of Fort Wayne and a brother Ronald (Kathy) Shephard of New Haven.  She was preceded in death by a son Bruce A. Smith.

Jodi was born August 25, 1983, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Kirk W. and Judy Kay (Metzger) Hoffman.  Her parents survive in Columbia City.  Also surviving are two sisters Kelli (Tayler) Kreider of South Whitley and Mindi (Spencer) Troyer of Laotto, 2 nephews Kaden and Kole Kreider, a niece Sadie Troyer, and grandparents Robert and Kate Hoffman of Roanoke.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents Arthur and Wilodean Metzger.
A celebration of Jodi’s life will be held at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Dr. Jean Ann Tribolet, age 87, longtime resident of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 7:35 am at Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne.  She graduated from Roanoke High School (1952), earned her BS from Manchester University, née College (1956), MA from University of Colorado (1959), and PhD from Purdue University (1970).  Post doctorate studies were done at Rutgers University in New Jersey and Alfred Adler Institute in Chicago.  Jean Ann taught in the public school system for 25 years and served as director of guidance services in both Huntington and Whitley Counties.  She was a psychology professor, former dean of women, and registrar at Manchester University.
Jean Ann was born May 11, 1934, in Huntington, a daughter of Claude D. and Gladys M. (Rupert) Tribolet.  She is survived by her sister, Monie Harley (Roland Young), as well as a nephew and nieces and their families, plus countless others whom she claimed and created as a wide interconnected family.
Visitation will be held 2:00-3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 3, at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes.  A funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m.  Pastor Deanna Brown will officiate.  On behalf of the deceased, in order to include those needing event health measures, guests are asked to wear masks indoors.  Some family and friends will initially gather outdoors for visitation.

Tiffany was born August 2, 1989, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Glen and Jackie (Blunk) Cramer.  Her parents survive in Fort Wayne.  Also surviving are grandparents Juanita Blunk of Fort Wayne, Polly Cantrell of Wabash, JR Cramer of Huntington, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and her beloved pit bull Romeo.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 18 from 10:30 - 11:30 am preceding the 11:30 am celebration of life service at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes.

Passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 12:01 am at Coventry Meadows, Fort Wayne.  He was a machine shop foreman at Custom Tube Company and maintenance superintendent at National Tube Form.  He was a member of 3rd Street Church of God in Fort Wayne.  Wesley was a strong supporter of the Indiana Sherriff’s Department and enjoyed metalworking and woodworking and gardening.
Wesley was born January 20, 1941, in Falmouth, Kentucky a son of Elmer and Ora Louise (Wellman) Yeager.  He married Gewayne Brown and later Mary Alice Fletcher Miles.  He is survived by a son Randal Yeager of Roanoke, Step-children Becky Fletcher, Jeana Cowan, Diane Fletcher, Andy Miles, Mike Fletcher, Danny Fletcher, grandchildren Ryan Yeager and Blake Yeager, and sister Donna Thomas.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Allen Yeager and an infant brother Earnest Lee Yeager.
To honor Wesley’s wishes there will be no services.

Kelsey, age 63, of Leo and formerly of Roanoke, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. He graduated from Huntington North High School in 1976, and attended Ball State University. Craig began his 30-year trucking career at Schenkel’s Dairy in his early twenties and retired from Super Value after many years of service. Raised in Roanoke, Craig was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church, as were his parents and grandparents. He was devoted to his family, including his aunts and uncles and other extended family. Craig personally cared for his father full time for the last few years of his life. A sentimental person, he owned several classic Buicks over the years, a nod to his grandfather who owned a Buick dealership in Roanoke’s early days. Craig loved to visit and keep in touch with old friends and attend family gatherings. He was known for his quick wit and animated sense of humor. He could tell a story like no one else and have his audience doubled over. He also loved to watch classic westerns, old movies and golf, always rooting for the underdog. Craig was also an avid walker, putting in hundreds of miles on the Puffer Belly Trail in Fort Wayne. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Craig was born December 2, 1957, in Fort Wayne, a son of the late Duane R. and Carol Ann (Sellers) Kelsey. He is survived by 2 sisters Laura Kelsey of Farmland and Val Holley of Fort Wayne, a brother Todd (Cathy) Kelsey of Yoder, nephews Dirk (Autumn) Holley, Ryan (Meggan) Holley, and Brandon (Nicole) Holley and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 7 from 6-8 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes and Wednesday, September 8 from 1:30-2:00 pm preceding the 2:00 pm funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Kathy graduated from Manual High School in Indianapolis, attended Indiana Central College, which later became the University of Indianapolis, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Huntington College.  She received her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from St. Francis College, Fort Wayne.  Kathy taught a total of 25 years at Tipton, Union, Horace Mann and Roanoke elementary schools.  She most recently was a member of Aboite Baptist Church.
Kathy was born March 2, 1936, in Merna, Nebraska, daughter of Dory Horton and Eloise E. (Eviston) McCormick.  On December 15, 1956 she married her beloved husband of 60 years James W. “Jim” Weber at University Heights Church, Indianapolis.  He passed away May 22, 2017.  She is survived by 3 sons Charles M. Weber of Lake Worth, FL, Brent A. Weber of Duluth, GA, and Kurt E. (Alicia) Weber of Maineville, OH, a daughter Judith E. (Mike) Pell of Noblesville, 10 grandchildren Jeremy (Emily) Weber, Cassandra (Casey Bell) Weber, Andrew (Lynnette) Weber, Austin Weber, Meredith Weber, Evan Weber, Leesha (Sean Conifer) Ice, Jordan Ice, Donovan Lehman, Connor Lehman, 5 great-grandchildren and a brother C. Thomas (Sharon) McCormick of Golden, CO. She was preceded in death by an infant son Bruce Wayne Weber.
Immediate family will gather privately to honor Kathy.  A public memorial service is anticipated at a later date.  Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Huntington.

John J. Klingenberger - June 12, 1951 - March 02, 2021

Obituary Preview: John Julian Klingenberger, age 69, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday. March 2, 2021, at 3:30 am at North Woods Village in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He was born June 12, 1951, the son of Jack and Ethel (Schnelker) Klingenberger.
He graduated from Bishop Luers High School and IU University.  He spent his career in the field of writing in some form or another.  For many years he was employed at Huntington Herald Press and the Roanoke Courier as a reporter and photographer, winning many awards for his articles and pictures.  Even more important were all of the family photos he took over the years of birthdays, graduations, weddings and holidays.  He spent the second half of his working life at Heartland REMC as Marketing Director.  While at REMC he took his first airplane flight to California with his boss and would still talk about it years later.  Flying was an adventure for this country boy.
His biggest love though next to his children, was nature and the outdoors. There was very little he didn’t experience as he hunted, fished, trapped, camped, hiked, and snowmobiled.  It was a yearly ritual for him and his best friend Hugh Farmer to pack up the family and go snowmobiling in Upper Michigan every winter.  He and Hugh are both back together now, popping tops and catching up.  He was also very active in his home town of Roanoke with various organizations and as is common in small towns knew everyone by name.
John is survived by his daughter Molly (Erich) Rommel, sons Jake Klingenberger and Luke Klingenberger, three beautiful granddaughters; Emma, Kate and Avery, special friend, Cathy Copper, and sisters Sue (Bruce) Keller and Jeanne Hohenstein.  He was proceeded in death by two brother-in-laws Joe King and Mike Hohenstein.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 4 from 2-5 & 6-8 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes and Friday March 5 from 9-10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke, preceding the 10:00 am Funeral Mass. Father Dale Bauman will officiate.

She loved westerns, especially John Wayne movies; was an avid reader, VC Andrews was her favorite author; was the biggest WWE wrestling fan ever, cheering on the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels; but found her greatest joy in life in spending time with her family.
Sally was born August 8, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest daughter of Lawrence William and Edna Ernasteen (Sisson) Elliott Sr.  She is survived by 4 children Michael (Melinda) Elliott of Redford, Michigan, Bronnie (John) Connors of Roanoke, Larry Fries of Reno, Nevada, and Heidi (Luke) Senibaugh of Huntington; 11 grandchildren Abigale Elliott, Gage Harris, Keegan Connors, Hunter Arnz, Juan Aponte-Arnz, Joseph (Josaphine) Arnz, Faith Jones, Lillyann Senibaugh, Connor Willmott, William Senibaugh; 1 great-granddaughter Willow Lei Arnz; siblings Beatrice (Rick) Winters of Nevada, Ruth Nelson of Alaska, Cecelia Elliott of Nevada, Anthony (Virginia) Elliott of Nevada, Patrick (Janet) Elliott of Michigan, Charline (Charles) Pollitt of Michigan.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first granddaughter Leighahna Harris, a brother Lawrence William Elliott Jr. and a sister Martha Thompson.

Randy was born March 7, 1955, to Don Porter and Mary (Eberly) Porter Squire in LaGrange, IN.  His mother survives in Fort Wayne. On April 21, 1973 he married his high school sweetheart Susan Sheets.  She survives in Roanoke.  Also surviving are 3 sons: Joshua (Shanon) Porter and Jason (Jessica) Porter both of Roanoke and Jeffrey (Shelly) Porter of Fort Wayne; 6 grandchildren Kelsey, Aiden, Addyson, Brooks, Ciera, and Gage, brothers Rick (Roxie) Porter of Fort Wayne, Dan (Cheryl) Porter of Roanoke, Bill Porter of Fort Wayne, Bob (Rhonda) Porter of Des Moines, IA, and a sister Melissa Leggett of Colorado.
