Visitation will be held at the chapel on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM until time of service at 2 PM.
John was born in Rungee, Texas on February 9, 1935 to the union of his parents, Robert and Lanie Carter, and he passed from this life April 15, 2021 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Carter; his son, Lance Carter; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Paul Carter (Patricia), Dwayne Carter (Sara), Jason Carter (Debbie); his daughter Karen Sanderson (Jimmy); brother, Pete Carter; sister, Mary Lou Blackshire; twelve grandkids, twelve great-grandkids, four great-great-grandkids.

John was born in Columbia, Louisiana on April 21, 1948 to the union of his parents, Howard and Francine Cummings, and he passed from this life April 12, 2021 in Marion, Louisiana surrounded by his loved ones. John served his country in the Air Force and was based out of Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Georgia, where he was a jet engine mechanic and worked on C141 jet planes. John loved the outdoors, he loved working with his tools on building projects and going to watch the dirt track races. John also had a love for animals, especially his cats. He loved his family and enjoyed visiting with his best friends, Stan and Virginia Fletcher. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Linus and Docia Cummings; his brother, Jack Cummings; and his fiancee, Shirley Gray.

Obituary Preview: Pamela Eloise Cook Ray was born in Columbia, Louisiana on March 19, 1956 to the union of her parents, William Iverson Cook and Vida Idell Reeves Cook; she went to her heavenly home on April 9, 2021 after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents. Pam was a faithful member of Columbia Heights Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir. Her love of music and desire to worship the Lord led her to the role of music director at Columbia Heights Baptist Church where she served for approximately thirteen years. She loved her church family and showed her love to them relentlessly. Pam enjoyed helping others and she did so selflessly. Pam’s musical talent led her to continue answering the call to serve her Christian community when she accepted the role as music director at First United Methodist Church of Columbia. She served in that position for several months, continuing her devotion the Christian community. Pam worked in the Caldwell Parish School System for over 20 years as an educator, serving countless children across the parish. She had a passion for education and worked effortlessly to help children with special needs and ensure all students were successful in the classroom. Her desire to help children extended beyond the classroom where she was committed to supporting teachers and administrators to strengthen practices that greatly impacted the success of all children in school. When she saw a need, she was always there to offer a helping hand. Pam consistently put the needs of others first. She was a devoted mother who loved her daughters unconditionally, standing by them in good times and bad. Pam loved her grandchildren with all her heart. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Katie Elizabeth Ray and Carrie Clarissa Ray; brothers: Sammy Cook (ReNeau) and William Michael Cook; sisters: Deborah Branch (Steven) and Jackie Stamper (Doug); her beloved grandchildren: Emalee Grace George, Noah Layne Ray, and Charlotte Elizabeth Ray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn McDowell Bratton was born November 11, 1939 in Clarks, Louisiana to the union of her parents, Jim Floyd McDowell and Lula Mae Boyette McDowell and passed from this life March 27, 2021 at Rapides Regional Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana. Evelyn was a devoted wife and loving mother of two children and several she helped raise. She touched many lives through her domestic mothering skills. Evelyn loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed life and making happy memories, playing dominoes and pursuing artistic hobbies. She will be missed by many. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty years, Douglas Bratton; two siblings: Robert James McDowell and Mary Ruth Etheridge; two half-brothers: James McDowell and Gerald (Pank) McDowell; and Genivia (Tot) Thompson McDowell.

Prior to retiring, Joyce worked for many years at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She loved her job and was a devoted employee. She was an avid sports fan. She never missed a Saints game and she especially enjoyed watching basketball. Joyce enjoyed reading, cooking and working in her yard when she was able. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. Her absence will leave a hole in the hearts of her many family members. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mickey Swett; sister, Dorothy Finley; and best friend, Lynette Maxwell.

Helen “Cleo” Blakeley Ryan, age 93, was born November 15, 1927 in Littlefield, Texas to the union of her parents, Frank Blakeley and Augusta Williams Blakeley and she passed from this life March 25, 2021 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia, Louisiana. Cleo was a retired nurse that touched the lives of those who were in her care. She had many friends and shared laughs with everyone she came in contact with. She loved her family and friends and loved to go and be a part of whatever they had going on, whether it was cheering you on at a baseball game, fishing, playing bingo, playing dominos, going to a Nascar speedway, working in her flower beds, or going to church, (she didn’t want to miss a thing!) She enjoyed life and spread laughter and cheer everywhere she went. She will be missed by many. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Augusta Blakeley; her siblings, 5 sisters and 3 brothers; her husband of 56 years, Aaron “Bubba” Ryan; one grandson, Lee Warren Ryan; and one great-grandson, Mason Turner Bowie.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: Mike Ryan (Cindy) of Elisabethton, TN, Bobby Ryan (Anne) of Columbia, LA, Frank Ryan (Shirley) of Greer, SC, Ned Ryan (Janie) of Columbia, LA, and Jeff Ryan of Walton KY; one sister- in- law, Dorothy Blakeley of Sunnyvale, TX; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jamie loved life and could brighten any room just by walking through the door. He always chose to see the positive things in life and he always left you feeling better than before. He loved his job as a welder in the oil industry and enjoyed traveling to all the places that it took him. Jamie would come home with stories of what he had seen and done and all the new foods he had tried. He loved to cook and try new foods out on his family. He enjoyed being outdoors riding his side X side. More than anything else, he loved his family and friends and spending time with them. He loved to get on the floor, like a big kid, and play with his children, niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Trenton Lane Howell and his uncle, Johnny Wayne Fife.

She enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds and in later years was entertained by playing games on her computer. She was loved greatly by her family and will be sorely missed. Beth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald W. Dark; brother, Donald Debnam; and sister, Sue Griffin Johnson.

Roy was born July 1, 1954 in Columbia, LA to the union of his parents, Katie Belle Swett Strickland and Malloy Samuel Strickland, and he passed form this life March 12, 2021 at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe, LA. Roy was an electrician at Louisiana Pacific for over 20 years before retiring from there. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jana Suzette Strickland; son, Matthew Scott Strickland; sister, Ethel Dyer; and brothers: Malloy "Red" Strickland and Harold "Peaches" Strickland.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jan Strickland; sisters: Rita Dyer and Patricia Cerrelli; brothers: Robert Strickland, Elee Strickland, Jacob Strickland, and Jerry Strickland; sister-in-law, Debbie Dannehl (Ricky); brother-in-law, Henry "Bully" Stephens (Brenda); and a host of nieces and nephews.

She loved spending time with her family and friends, she loved mowing the grass, working in her flowerbeds, traveling with her sisters, camping, and her precious puppy, "Sadie". She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert McDaniel; brother, Jimmy Lee Jones; sisters: Nellie Rizzo and Barbara Daughtery; and her grandson, Justin McDaniel.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. A. Eglin McKeithen; her parents, George and Mae Shipp; and her sisters: Mary Alice Mann and Beatrice Jackson. Survivors include her three children: Dr. James E. McKeithen and wife Teresa, Mary De Rucker and husband Wilbur, and Jane Meredith and husband Scott. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Japheth McKeithen (Jennifer), Duncan McKeithen (Lisa), Domini Cooper (Dave), Leslie Crain (Steven), Bea Rice (Colby), Jesse Rucker (Kacey), Jessica McDaniel (Justin), Ashleigh Moreno (Jeremy), Angela Kosarek (Logan), and Evy Bonaventure (Blake); sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

John Benton Short was born on May 18, 1928 at Tuscaloosa, Alabama and passed from this life on Monday February 22, 2021 at the Landmark Nursing and Rehab Center in West Monroe. John was a ship inspector and to describe John the closest thing would be he lived the life of a distinguished gentleman. He loved working on El Caminos and loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Vertie Lee Moore Short and by his grandson Hunter Odom and granddaughter Faye Thomas.

Jessie Mae Brown was born on June 5, 1933 at Riverton, LA and passed from this life on February 22, 2021 at the Little Rock Baptist Medical Center.
Jessie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, William Penn Brown, Sr., known by everyone as Nude; her mother, Mabel Nation; and her beloved uncle, Penic Howell. To know Jessie Mae was to love her. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very quiet woman but loved to laugh with her friends and family. After the death of her husband she moved to Clarendon, AR to be near her daughter. There in Clarendon she was an active member of Missionary Baptist Church and loved going to church and singing. She also loved quilting, gardening, and feeding her birds.

Mr. May was born on November 17, 1931, in Caldwell Parish to the union of Marion Mayfield May and Odessa Stamper May and died on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia.
At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from June 7, 1949 to November 29, 1952 as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a retired welder and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 141-Monroe/Shreveport with fifty-two years of service. He had a great love for hunting and fishing and loved working in his garden. He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan. He loved Drew Brees and Taysom Hill - his favorites. He never met a stranger and would do anything he could for everyone he knew. He loved his family, friends, co-workers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Nelda and Harold Griggs; his brothers: Waylon May, Everette May and Al Francis; great-grandson, Christopher Hall; and daughter-in-law, Leslie May.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Charlene May; his daughters: Monica May Mann (Bobby) of West Monroe, Teri May Hall (Terry) of Vixen; son, Marion Eugene “Gene” May, Jr. of Clifton, Tennessee; sisters: Gloria Herrington (Lowery) of Vidalia, Louise Powers (Earl) of Winnsboro and Yvonne McKeithen of Baton Rouge; sisters-in-law: Pat May and Mary May; his grandchildren: Kim Hall Knight, Chris Hall, Amber Mann Blocker, April May Duke, and Arvenia May Cunningham; great-grandchildren: Allison Parker, Daniel Duke, Ansaley Duke, Brody Hall, Nicholas Hall, Robbie Cunningham and Lily Cunningham.

Susie had worked in the community as a childcare worker having owned her own childcare center for many years. Her family and especially her granddaughters were her heart, but she also felt the same way about her kids who attended her daycare. Susie was a faithful member of Cross Roads Baptist Church at Grayson.Travel was also something that Susie loved to do with her family.

Paul Wayne McCoy, Sr. was born July 25, 1948 at Monahans, TX to the union of his parents, Oscar McCoy, Jr. and Lula Bell Evans McCoy, and he passed from this life February 9, 2021 at Lakeview Medical Center, Covington, LA following an extended illness.
Paul was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother and dear friend to so many. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone he met. Visiting with friends and family was one of his favorite ways to spend his time. Paul was a business owner serving the needs of the people of Caldwell Parish for 52 years. He worked in many different capacities during that time. Most recently, he was the owner of Eastside Quick Lube, but at one time he also owned Exxon Family Stop, Pizza Plus, and Hilltop Mobil. He worked in the oil field and farmed- raising cattle and growing hay. He also coached Dixie Youth Baseball for 10 years when his sons were growing up. Paul was known for being a good neighbor and good friend, helping others whenever he could. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Theresa Yvonne Garinsee; father-in-law, Eugene Jewell; brother-in-law, James Michael Jewell; niece, Marsha Kirby and nephew, Donnie Sikes.

Tom David Gay was born on August 31, 1947 in Monroe, LA and passed from this life on February 5, 2021 at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia, LA. Tom was raised in Sterlington, LA and was an only child to his loving parents, Warren and Maudelle Gay. As a child, Tom was an enthusiastic member of The Boy Scouts of America where he completed the journey to become an Eagle Scout and was proudly inducted into The Order of the Arrow. After serving in The United Stated Coast Guard, Tom started his career in broadcasting as a disc jockey and continued to talk his way through many radio shows until 1978 when he settled in Columbia, LA and acquired KCTO, which was his first of many radio stations throughout North and Central Louisiana. Tom was a well-respected and much-loved member of his community… an entrepreneur, a visionary, but more than anything a friend. Tom served as Chairman of the Board of Citizens Medical Center for 19 years, as well as, President of The Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. As a member of The First United Methodist Church of Columbia, Tom could always be found on the 4th pew on the right – always ready to serve as an usher and faithfully singing his favorite hymns while sitting behind his best bud, Doc Cummings and surrounded by a congregation he so strongly cherished. Tom was an avid duck hunter, boater, and outdoorsman, as well as, an amazing husband, Father, and Grandfather. Tom’s greatest character trait was his “Jois De Vivre”… a true lover of life he never backed away from a good time, a good meal, or the chance to tell a good story. He was preceded in death by his father, David Warren Gay; his mother Edith Maudelle Freeman Gay; and his son-in-law Darren Jacobson.
