Obituary Preview: C.E. “Boe” Collins, Jr., age 53, of Long Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 25, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold D. Barnes, Clyde L. and Norma Jean Collins, Audrey Tripp, and Rita Salloum; a great-grandmother, Ona Mae Lassere.
Survivors include his parents, Penny (JD) Tripp and Eddie (Susan) Collins; his siblings, Christy (David) Peterson, Tim (Stacie) Tripp, Amy (Louis) Elias, Amy (David) Lee, and Mickey Anderson; his grandmother, Virginia Barnes; nieces and nephews, Faith Peterson, Sam Lee, Molly Lee, Lala Lee, J.T. Tripp, Guice Tripp, Tripp Elias, and Tucker Elias; and his best bud, Sean Milner; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Boe was a lifelong resident of Long Beach and was a 1988 graduate of Harrison County School for Exceptional Children. Boe excelled in the Special Olympics and won numerous Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in several different events. Boe was an avid Long Beach Bearcat fan and was always attending events with his nieces and nephews. “If the lights were on, Boe was there.” He was well known in Long Beach and was considered as the “Public Relations Expert” for the City of Long Beach.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church, Long Beach. The funeral service will be at 12:30 pm in the church. Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery on Monday, December 2, 2019, at 11 am.

Obituary Preview: Antonina Catherine Vaccaro Hanson, age 95, of Pass Christian, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019.
Catherine was born on September 5, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she grew up and attended Sacred Heart Academy. She then went to Gulf Park College in Long Beach, Mississippi. After her marriage to “Herbie” on November 21, 1945, at St. Matthias Church in New Orleans, she lived the rest of her life in Pass Christian where she was a member of St. Paul/Holy Family Catholic Church. She served as President of the Altar Society for many years. Catherine was a very loving mother and devout Catholic who attended daily mass as long as she was able to do so.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Herbert Courtenay Hanson; her son, Dr. John Edward Hanson of Pass Christian, Mississippi; her parents, Felix Vaccaro and Antonina Lombardo Vaccaro; and her sister, Marion Vaccaro Genevay, all of New Orleans.
Catherine is survived by five children: Joseph Vaccaro Hanson of Metairie; Herbert Courtenay Hanson, Jr., of Pass Christian; Barbara “Bobbie” Hanson Henry (Dennis) of Harahan, Louisiana; Helen Hanson Janneck (Fred) of Fort Worth, Texas; and Joann Hanson York of Pass Christian; ten grandchildren: Joseph V. Hanson, II, Christopher M. Hanson, Shelley R. Hanson, David A. Hanson, Daniel C. York, Dennis G. Henry, James H. Henry, Frederick “Freddie” E. Janneck, Jr., Gretchen H. Thibeault, and Hunter E. (Emma) Hanson; and six great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank all the kind and caring staff at Dixie White House who took such great care of our Mother. She loved each and every one of you.

She is survived, by her sons, Gene (Lynda) Bass and David (Susan) Bass; daughters, Gloria (Rick) Ricker and Annette (Randy)Wells; a sister, Betty Burge Lee; 8 grandchildren, Tyler Bass, Taylor Bass (Angela), Lindsey Bourne, Alex Harbry, Johnna Wells, and Josh Wells; 8 great-grandchildren, Alex Bass, Chandler Bass, Luke Bass, Rosalie Bass, Walker Young, Mason Young, Lucy Bourne, Wrenne Conger, and Bryn Harbry; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Bass was a longtime resident of Long Beach and she enjoyed spending time with her family and listening to music. She was member of First Baptist Church of Long Beach and she retired from the Post Office after 30 years of service. In her early years, she was a skilled athlete and played basketball for several teams.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 12 pm – 2 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Long Beach. The funeral service will be at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 51 years, Renkert G. Meyer, Jr.; children, Scott Meyer, Jill ( Jason) Sanders and Beth Meyer; sister, Karen (Wayne) Disegna; grandchildren, Victoria and Freddie Meyer and Riley and Cora Sanders.
She was a native of the Long Lake Community near Rochester, NY and attended Hope College, MI and Cornell University School of Nursing, NY. Sharon was a registered Nurse who dedicated her career to providing patient care. She was an ICU Charge Nurse who worked at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center as well as Garden Park and Memorial Hospitals in Gulfport, MS .
Her accomplishments include being First Mate of the vessels, Mississippi Magic and Stray Cat, as well as maintaining unwavering patience for her occasionally surly crew. Sharon was a lover of life and Daytona 200 Motorcycle Races Pilgrim, Nursing School scholarship Philanthropist, Sunday School/VBS Teacher, Long Beach Library Lamaze Coach, Coffee Connoisseur, Player of Piano, Crime Series Watcher, Scorpio Sister, Mother of three Virgo babies, Lover of Snuggles, Devoted Beloved of her Bear, Conqueror of Odds and now, A Fierce Ancestor Ally.
After moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, she became an active member of First United Methodist Church of Long Beach, Long Beach Yacht Club and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Alabama-Mississippi Chapter.
Sharon worked to make her community a better place for everyone. She believed that the most important answers can be found in the heart. She cackled when things were really funny, especially dirty jokes. Sharon reminded us that things are often not as serious as they seem in the moment. She is remembered as a Light in the World.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Stipulkoski; husband, Russell Ringer; her parents, Toney and Lugenia (Davis) McArthur; and her brothers, Buddy, Herman and Ronnie McArthur.
Helen devoted her life to her children and family. She enjoyed a simple life, spending time with family members and friends. Her travels included trips to Panama, Germany and visiting family members throughout the United States. Her beloved pet, Joey, provided comfort and joy to her in her later years. She participated in the workforce during World War II, taking a job in New York City as a factory worker. After the casinos sprang up on the Coast, weekly trips to the “Island” were one of her favorite pastimes. Helen was the matriarch of her family and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her children, Carole Allen (Martin, dec.), Linda Wolf (Allen), Kathy Pense (Bernd, dec.), Steven Stipulkoski, David Stipulkoski, Mark Stipulkoski (Lynn), and Matt Stipulkoski (Laurie); grandchildren, Helen, Harold and Leann, Dana, Susan, Justin and Erin; great-grandchildren, Ian, Rhiannon, Katherine, Gabby, Grayson, Josh, Ashley, Blake, Kayla and Jack; her brother, Pete McArthur; sister, Betty Parrish (Earl); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Denise Scafide Russell and grandparents, Charles and Vesta Farragut and Charles and Mamie Russell. He is survived by his wife, Amber Hegler Russell; children, Sheree Krogsgaard (Larry, Taylor, Quentin and Waylon), Melissa Wagner (Myles and Cameron), and Kyle Russell (Joe Hernandez); parents, Alice and Tom Russell; and siblings, Marcie Ladner (Timmy), Lamar Russell (Rena), Bill Russell (Hope), and Houston Dorr (Deanna); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Gene loved his family, gardening, cars, Saint’s football, and telling a good story. As a lifelong Pass Christian resident, Gene was heavily involved in all things “Pass” from being his Senior Class President, the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 316, a PCHS Band Booster Club member, a PCHS Gridiron Club Member, a member of the Farragut’s Walking Club, a city league softball coach of the Pelicans, and a member of the Krewe of Blarney. He was active in many civic groups including the Pass Christian Volunteer Fire Department, Chairman for Pass Christian Park Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Pass Christian Planning Commission and Pass Christian Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors.) Gene and his family owned and operated Russell’s Service Center from 1978 to 2005 until it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. After that, he went to work with Amber and became co-owner of Pass Christian Pet Care.
Most of all, Gene will be remembered as a wonderful husband and a great dad.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Trinity Episcopal Church from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Funeral services will follow in the sanctuary at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Live Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Kerg was a native of Fairmont, Minnesota and a former resident of Huntsville, Alabama. She has been a resident of Pass Christian since 2001. She was a civilian government employee, working as a Program Analyst, GS13, with Missile Defense.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Long Beach, volunteered with CASA and was a member of the Christian Brotherhood of Magicians. She loved making birthday, anniversary and thank you cards, and never forgot a birthday or anniversary.
The family would like to express their thankfulness to the doctors and nurses of MD Anderson and Memorial Hospital of Gulfport; and for all who prayed for her and provided for the family with meals and financial assistance for medical expenses.

Obituary Preview: James Burrell Williams, age 82, of Long Beach, passed away on October 17, 2019.
Mr. Williams was born in Clarksville, TN, and prior to high school graduation, he joined the United States Army where was a Paratrooper. Following military service, he finished his education and moved to Memphis, TN, where he worked as a route supervisor for Wonder Bread. At this early point in his life, he enjoyed flying as he attempted to get his pilot’s license. He later went to work for a car dealership there in Memphis before relocating to Gulfport where he opened a Pontiac car dealership with Bert Allen. After many years in the new car business, he branched out and opened Jim Williams Cars, Coast Contract Buyers (a finance company), and Rent-a-Wreck (a car rental agency). He was a member of First Baptist Church Long Beach. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding his bicycle, and taking care of his land.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Bailey and Mattie Lee Powell Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma Grace Womack Williams; children, James Bret Williams (Roxane), Jon Duncan Williams, and Rebecca Williams Ladner; grandchildren, Richie Williams (Heather), Courtney Wright (Steven), Mitch McCaleb; great grandchildren, Karson Wright and Carissa Hester.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at First Baptist Church Long Beach, from 1pm-until 3pm. Funeral services will follow in the sanctuary at 3pm. Burial will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen Hadden Bass; his parents, Richard and Irene Hadden; and his brothers, Joe Hadden and Carl Hadden.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sherry Linton Hadden; his daughter and her husband, Kelly and Jeff Frye; four beautiful grandkids, Logan Bass, Kaleigh Bass, Cameron Frye, and John Frye; his brother and his wife, Richard and Connie Hadden; and his sister, Theresa Fitch.
He was a wonderful man with a huge heart, and was loved by all who knew him. Johnny moved to the Coast from Bossier City Louisiana in 1969. He retired from Illinois Central / CN railroad which was a "family tradition". Johnny was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and loved everything that the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast has to offer. He loved riding along the beach, visiting the casinos, and especially eating all of the good food that the coast has to offer. Johnny never met a stranger and took care of everyone around him. You could find Johnny everywhere, like often being seen having coffee at McDonald's, eating and playing at The Island View, and outside mowing his yard, along with his neighbors’ yards. He loved and lived life to the fullest. He is going to be missed so much by so many. We do not know who will be able to fill his shoes.
Johnny was president and a member of the Gulf Coast Traffic Club. We know that he was greeted in Heaven by his many family and friends that have passed before him. We know that he is home now, and that he is at peace.

Rita was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, one of 10 siblings to Frank and Elizabeth Mullins. She was a resident of Long Beach for 45 years. She made her way to the US, and ultimately to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, as the wife of a Navy Seabee. She was a strong, independent woman, who raised three daughters to be just like her in that way. She was a hard worker, a no-nonsense mother, a cradle Catholic, a breast cancer survivor, casino enthusiast, a huge fan of her grandchildren and an unapologetic sweets addict. She was a loyal friend who deeply loved her long-time Newfoundland and Seabee friends with whom she shared many laughs, bad perms, hands of cards and cups of tea.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters and her favorite sons-in-law, Heather and Brandon Davis of Franklin, TN; Kristi and Mike Monson of Mobile, AL; and Denise and Bruce Carver of Long Beach, grandchildren Andrew Monson, Atlanta, GA; Nicholas Monson, Auburn, AL; Patrick, Katherine, Ethan and Matthew Monson, Mobile, AL; Rebecca Davis, Franklin, TN; and Bryce and Brianna Carver, Long Beach, sisters Eileen Oliver, Betty Brown and Sheila Calkins and many nieces, nephews and close friends that made her life so special, especially the Reiters, Doyles, Flemings, Lipskis and Therriens. A special thank you to the great ladies at Senior Oaks in Long Beach for the loving care given to Rita for the last 8 years, Brenda Chapman Sample, Jessica and Jaelee Fountain, Linda Evans, Rose Arceneaux, Neisha Williams and Kenshauna Warren.

Obituary Preview: Duane J “DUKE” Maloney, Sr., age 78, of Long Beach, MS passed away at MHG in Gulfport, MS on Saturday, September 28, 2019.
Duke was born in Peoria, IL on October 29, 1940. At the age of seven he and his parents moved to Mississippi and made their home on 28th St. He has been a resident of Long Beach ever since. Duke attended Long Beach High and was #75 on the varsity football team in his senior year, graduating in 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Grace Maloney; his two beloved sons, Duane J Maloney, Jr and Donald Thomas Maloney all of Long Beach; and his step-grandson, Kelly McCabe of California. He is survived by his 3 stepchildren, Mickey Sessum, Diane and Jimmy Johnson, Paul and Beth Sessum; his grandchildren, Heather Maloney Harvey and Misty Wilson, Greg Sessum and Naomi Sessum Albert,
Sarah Johnson Allen and Hannah Johnson Brupbacher; his great grandsons Jacob and Darran Harvey,as well as Greg’s children and Naomi’s son, Daniel. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Mariann Clayburg and his loyal friend, Kay Randolph.
In the 1960’s he worked at Pass Christian Industries, ‘the shirt factory’, as a floor supervisor. Later, he worked at Reichold Chemical in Gulfport.
Duke’s family and friends knew that he liked to garden and grow things, planting beautiful trees in the yard of his boyhood home. In his younger days, he was in a bowling league, loved to shoot pool with his buddies, took dancing lessons at Arthur Murray’s Studio and worked hard to provide for five growing children. Later, he became a collector of tattoos, becoming ‘the illustrated man’. A longtime friend recently said, “There is only one way to describe the Duke; he was way cool.” And he most certainly was. He was a good natured man with a big heart and a gentle soul, easy to love, and a good friend to many. His laugh and his face will be remembered and missed by those who love him.

Jim was born in Des Moines, IA as the son of George Zugg and Lela Jones Zugg.
He grew up in Des Moines and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he joined the Seabees. He served two tours in Vietnam; was stationed at Davisville, RI, CBC Gulfport, MS, NAVCOMSTA Nea Makri, Greece, NAS Belle Chase, LA, Morocco, and the Bahamas. While stationed in Greece, he met his wife, Judy, and they married on September 6, 1981. He served for 24 years and retired in 1987. After retirement, he worked for Pat Peck Nissan as a mechanic, drove a school bus for Long Beach School District, and served as a reserve officer for the Long Beach Police Department. In 2001 he became a full time deputy for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department where he worked until medically retiring in 2014.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, George Zugg, Karen Hubbard, Barbara Kress, and Robert Zugg.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Helline Zugg of Long Beach; his two children, James Dennis Zugg, Jr. of Long Beach, and William Edward Zugg (Megan) of Saucier; his granddaughter, Delilah R. Lopez of Saucier; his two brothers, David Zugg (Lynn) and Edgar Zugg, both of Phoenix, AZ; his sisters-in-law, Martha Zugg of Des Moines, IA, and Karla Zugg of Phoenix, AZ; and his numerous nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Hagensee (Patsy); 2 sisters, Glynn Steele and Myra Brune; 2 grandsons, Macy Hagensee and Steve Hagensee; great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hagensee was a lifelong resident of the coast and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She retired after 35 years of service from Bell South as a telephone operator. She enjoyed working in her yard and sewing.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, from 10 – 11 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E Beach Blvd, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am in the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Gardens Cemetery.

His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his children grow up and spent much time as he could with them, going to sports, school and church events.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carson Lehman Pitman; mother, Maudie Jane Quartermous-Pitman; daughter, Deborah Lynn Pitman-Dubois; brothers, Carson Lehman Pitman, Jr, Harry Lewis Pitman, William Truman Pitman, and John Allen Pitman.
Bob is survived by his wife, Virginia Suzette Pitman of Long Beach, MS; daughters, Cynthia Catherine Pitman-Richardson (Bill) of Columbia, SC, Kristen Leigh Bell (Matt) of Charlotte, NC and Robyn Reatha Pitman Jewell (Nathaniel) of Long Beach, MS; son, Jason Robert Pitman of West Palm Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Samantha Bell, Abigail Bell, Carson Bell all of Charlotte, NC, Kailyn Richardson of Columbia, SC, and Gabriel Pitman of Long Beach, MS.

She owned her own car detailing business called Bling-Bling Mobile Detailing for 15 years. Before that, she was a florist and was currently retired. She had a passion for gardening, arts, and crafts. She loves living in Long Beach and spending time with her youngest grandchild.

She was born in Union, MS, was raised in Beulah Hubbard, MS where she was the valedictorian of her graduating class and was the captain of the girls’ basketball team. She had been a resident of the coast for many years. She and her husband lived in Jackson, Chicago, Greenville, South Carolina, and Chattanooga where they made lifelong friends. She was the true matriarch of the family always organizing special times with the family especially their time at the beach in North Carolina. Mrs. Veltman was an excellent cook and was known for her rum cake, red beans and rice, and dinner rolls. She was a member of Pass Christian Isles Golf Club where she was involved with the “9 Holers”, the “Mama Mia” Club. She was also involved with the Timber Ridge Property Owners Association where she served as the Sunshine Lady.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 7, 2019, from 11 am – 12 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, Pass Christian. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 pm in the church.
