Born on September 25, 1956, in Fremont, OH, Therese had called Vermilion home for 35 years, having relocated from Portsmouth, OH.
For three decades, Therese dedicated herself to aiding others as a Chemical Dependency Counselor in Lorain County, retiring in 2021.
She found solace and community through her membership at St. Mary Catholic Parish, Vermilion, and the Vermilion College Club. Therese's passions were diverse, encompassing gardening, travel, crafting, and the joy of baking her renowned Pumpkin Rolls.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 41 years, Thomas Ward of Vermilion; her son, Colin (Maggie) Ward of North Ridgeville; her daughter, Alison Ward of Delaware, OH; her sisters, Lori (Glenn) Misner of Clyde, OH, and Lynne (Jim) Franks of Fremont; and her sister-in-law, Teri Schumm of Sandusky.
Therese was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Patricia (née Sneider) Schumm, and her brother, Michael Schumm.

Obituary Preview: Billy A. Roach, 86, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Mercy New Life Hospice, following a brief illness. Born on February 4, 1938, in Lucy, TN, Billy made Vermilion his home for over five decades.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Billy served his country with honor. Following his military service, he dedicated 37 years to Ford Motor Co., in the paint department before retiring in 1998.
He was a member of Saint Mary Parish in Vermilion, as well as AMVETS Post 22 and UAW Local 2000. In his youth, he found solace and adventure on motorcycle rides, while later years saw him enjoying peaceful days on the boat, fishing alongside his beloved sons and father-in-law, Chris Thome. A true handyman with a passion for technology and electronics, Billy's curiosity knew no bounds.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Marianne (nee Thome) Roach of Vermilion, and his loving sons: Timothy (Jennifer Hayes) Roach of North Royalton, Brian (Jinnifer) Roach of Lakewood, and William "Bill" (Candice) Roach of Vermilion. He will be dearly missed by his cherished grandchildren: Colin and Finnegan Roach, Emilee (Kevin) Callahan, and Courtney (Eric O'Callaghan) Roach.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Jewel (nee Holden) Roach, and his sisters, Laverne Hurst and Shirley Yancey.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Paul  was a proud veteran of the US Army serving as a Green Beret in the 10th Special Forces Group.
Paul  worked for the United States Postal Office in Westlake and Bay Village  as a mail carrier retiring in 2007.
He enjoyed woodworking, painting, football, and loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judith "Judy" Barnard; son, Jason  Barnard; stepchildren, David (Michelle) Lorenzo, Lisa  (Chris) Tomshack, and Jodi Lorenzo; grandchildren, Devyn and Katelyn Barnard,  Shannon, Christopher and Zack Tomshack,  Aidan and Alexis Schibley, Ashley (Adam) Hughes; and one great-granddaughter, Fynley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alice (nee Jackson) Barnard; and daughter in law, Erica Barnard.
Private graveside services will held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Veterans Council will conduct military honors.

Mary Catherine Caudill - December 15, 1935 - May 11, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mary Catherine Caudill (nee Rice), 88, of Vermilion peacefully passed into the arms of her savior Jesus Christ Saturday, May 11, 2024, following a lengthy illness.
Born on Dec. 15, 1935, in Bowlingtown, Ky., Mary was called Catherine by her family and her friends, and “sweetyheart” by her late husband, Elisha Matthew Caudill.
She lived in Kentucky, Washington, Germany and Ohio during their 58 years of marriage. She resided in Elyria for more than 40 years before moving to Vermilion.
Catherine’s joy was her family, and served others with her gentle love, generosity  and unwavering faith. She was humble and grateful, a quiet and steadfast matriarch of a family that grew to six children and more than 40 descendants.
She found solace and community at A Fresh Wind Church in Elyria, where she was beloved. She loved to read, enjoyed flowers and birds, and was a wonderful cook, magically able to feed an army with whatever she had on hand.
Catherine was most content surrounded by family, and was known for her hospitality and gracious welcome. Perhaps her greatest power was rocking her grandbabies and singing to them songs passed down for generations.
Catherine held many jobs in her lifetime, including working alongside her husband as a machinist for 20 years at Assembly Specialties in Cleveland.
She is survived by her six adoring children: Alan (Debbie) Caudill of Sheffield; Connie (Don) Fiske of Painesville; Loreen (Mike) Payne of North Ridgeville; Sharon (Tom) Hurn of Wakeman; Teresa (Tim) Holt of Vermilion; and Rini (Scott) Jeffers of Vermilion.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, embraced by a vast family tree that includes grandchildren Sandra (Brian) Miller; Kate (Steve) Reisinger; Nichole (Jason) Brown; Laura (Scott) Schisler; Erica (Aaron) Steuerwald; Zach Hurn; Gabriel (Katie) Caudill; Cassady (Logan) Buchs; Tim (Nicole) Holt; Maddie (Zack Robinette) Holt; Josiah Holt; Carter Jeffers; Charlie Jeffers; Carrie (Paul) Dowling; Sandy (Shane) Novak; Stephanie Fiske; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Matthew; parents, Ira and Esta Mae (nee Smith) Rice; grandchildren, Zachariah T. Hurn and Michelle Payne; and five siblings.

Born on July 13, 1934, in Cleveland, OH, Leonard resided in Vermilion for 56 years, having relocated from Brooklyn Heights, Ohio. He graduated from Parma High School in 1952, and his life's education continued through the experiences he gathered, earning him a degree from "the school of hard knocks". Leonard proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
For three decades, Leonard dedicated himself to his company, General Awning Company until his retirement in 2016. Additionally, he served the South Euclid Fire Department as a firefighter for 12 years and owned and operated Rt. 60 U Stor All in Vermilion for 34 years.
Leonard was an active member of Vermilion AMVETS Post #22 and Vermilion VFW Post #7576. He found joy in fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and fixing anything that was broken.
He is survived by his  son, William "Bill" (Carrie) Lachner of Lorain; daughter, Tracey (Rob) Baum of Ashland; grandchildren, Mia, Megan, Madison,  Bryan,Trey and Gavyn; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Ava; as well as his sister, Eileen (Ted) Bunevich of North Royalton.  Step daughters, Andrea Faley, April Faley, Kathy Austin and Elaine O'Reilly; his step grandchildren: Brent, Alex, Clare, Isaac and Niamh and his one step great grandson.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Sandra Lee (nee Straub) Lachner; his parents, William and Pauline (nee Funk) Lachner; his brother, Donald Lachner; and his sister, Pauline O'Patka.

Born on October 12, 1943, in Parma, OH, William had been a cherished resident of Vermilion for 73 years, having relocated from Parma.
William was a proud graduate of Vermilion High School, class of 1961. He dedicated over three decades of his career to ITT Brass, which later became Lithonia Lighting, where he served as a supervisor until his retirement in 1996.
His passion for cars led him to spend countless hours restoring and painting them in his Lake Rd. garage. He delighted in showcasing his beloved 1957 gold metal flake Ford at car shows and relished weekends boating and visiting Put-in-Bay with his best friend, Fred. Cruising in his 1979 Vette with his granddaughter, Mimi, brought him immense joy. His grandchildren, Mason and Mimi, were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
William is survived by his son, Chad (Telly) Peters of Berlin Heights, his brother Tim Peters of Palm Harbor, FL, his sister, Pat "Sis" Peters of Vermilion (alongside her companion, Dave), and his grandchildren, Mason and Mimi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ethel (nee Kraus) Peters, and his sister-in-law, Iris.

Jeffery L Wentz - May 04, 1952 - April 29, 2024

Obituary Preview: Jeffery Lynn Wentz, 71, or Vermilion, passed away on Monday, April 29th after a short battle with vascular dementia. He was born May 4, 1952 in Sandusky, OH and grew up in Old Homestead in Huron, OH.
He graduated from Huron High School in 1970, where he was on the varsity wrestling team and a state wrestling champion. He will be inducted into the Huron High School Sports Hall of Fame for his wrestling achievements later this year.
Jeff was a big fan of Cleveland sports teams, hiking, especially in the Great Smokey Mountains, biking, Lake Erie sunsets, and was a civil war history buff. He worked for Ford Motor Company from 1974 to 2014, working at the Lorain plant and later the Avon Lake plant, where he was loved by his co-workers. Jeff will be remembered by his fun-loving personality and love of all things Huron.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Beursken), children, Jason (Michelle) Wentz of Huron, OH, Jeffery (Dilara) Wentz of Stafford, VA, and Crystal (Tony) Willett of Port Sanilac, MI. He will also be remembered fondly by his  grandchildren, Kelsey, Lincoln, Nevaeh, Trevon and Kayla; and his brothers, Doug Wentz of Columbiana, OH and Mike Harman of Paonia, CO, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor (Higgins) and Stanley Wentz, his beloved sister, Marcia Auerhamer, and brother, Charles “Charlie” Harman.

He is survived by his mother, JoAnn Lacinak; siblings, Julia  (Ryan) Jasko; Tara  Lacinak, Will Lacinak, and Aidan Lacinak; several nieces and nephews; step mother, Barbara  Lacinak; step sisters, Bridget  (Daryl) J Lahti and  Amy Beth Herman; his  best friend, Joe Joe; and his girlfriend, Patti.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J Lacinak, Jr.; brother, Joseph James "Jamie" Lacinak , III; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A celebration of Jake's life will be held at a later date.

However, her greatest happiness came from the moments spent in the company of her dear friends and doting on her beloved grandchildren.

Jo Ann Spence - July 18, 1945 - April 14, 2024

Obituary Preview: Jo Ann (Kennedy) Spence, 78, of Wakeman, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on April 14, 2024 following a courageous battle with brain cancer.
She was born in Whitman, West Virginia on July 18, 1945, the first of three daughters to Joseph and Novella (Browning) Kennedy.
She graduated from Burch High School in Delbarton, West Virginia in 1963. While there, as a teenager, she met her future husband, Thomas Spence, and began a beautiful love story that spanned more than 60 years.
Jo Ann was an exceptionally kind, patient, and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who devoted her entire life to her family. Her hobbies included shopping, sewing, reading, traveling, and planning birthday, holiday, and other celebrations for her family.
Those who knew her would agree that her smile was infectious, and she had a way of making everyone around her feel special. The quote “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die” best describes her kind and loving spirit, which will live on for generations.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 59 years, Thomas, Sr., daughter, Christine (Scott) Soltis of Vermilion, Ohio, son Thomas, Jr. (Kasie) Spence of Miami Beach, Florida, cherished granddaughters Lauren Soltis of Vermilion, Ohio, Allison (Zach) Rogers of Fairview Park, Ohio, beloved grandsons Nathan Spence of Kelleys Island, Ohio, Bradley Soltis of Oberlin, Ohio, and Brian Spence of Cleveland, Ohio, precious great-granddaughters Rowan and Wynnie Rogers, loving sister, Brenda (John) Strunk of Reno Nevada, along with numerous cousins,nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Novella (Browning) Kennedy, her dear sister Judy Kennedy, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

For over 30 years, Terry dedicated himself as an Electrician at Ford Motor Co., Avon Lake, before retiring. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 2000 and found camaraderie among fellow Browns Backers. Terry's passions included his love for Harley Davidson motorcycles and the adrenaline rush of drag racing.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Allison (Joe) Tristan of Marion, IA, along with granddaughters Mackenzie and Makayla Tristan. He is also survived by his brothers: Harry (Amber) Werner, Ernie Werner, and Karl (Vickey) Werner.
Preceding Terry in death were his beloved wife, Darlene Elizabeth Werner, in 2022, as well as his parents, Harry and Evelyn (nee Harris) Werner, sisters Frieda Denger and Barb Smith, and sister-in-law Vibeke Werner.

David proudly served in the United States Army and National Guard. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1953 before furthering his education at Ohio University.
For 31 years, David dedicated himself to Glidden Paints, excelling in Inventory Management until his retirement in 1999.
A devout member of St. Mary Catholic Parish in Vermilion, David found joy in gardening, family gatherings, and his passion for classic cars, tall ships, and music.  He will be remembered for his infectious smile and his family values and traditions. He will be dearly missed, but his family will have a life time of memories to cherish.
He is survived by his children: William (Nancy) Nash of Stow, Thomas Nash of Lakewood, Kelley (Adam) Reed of Cleveland, Colleen (Stephen) Ulbrich of Albany, and Daniel (Christine) Nash of Lorain. He is also remembered fondly by his 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and several niece and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Tommy held many positions during his professional life, including dedicating 20 years to York International working in maintenance.
Tommy was known for being a good and caring husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest joy was his family and he cherished the family vacations spent in Florida. His other great loves were playing golf and spending time with his trusted companion, "Crazy Ruby Tuesday". He enjoyed watching Cleveland Sports and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Betty Elbert of Vermilion; children, Derek (Jen) Elbert of Lagrange, Craig (Andrea) Elbert of South Amherst, and  Lynnae Elbert of Apopka, FL; grandchildren, Caili, Selaina, RJ, Tommy, Nate and Naomi; great-grandchildren, Ivy Mae, Gracelynn, and River James ; and beloved dog, Ruby;  he is also survived by his siblings; John (JoAyne) Elbert of Dunnellon, FL,  Terry (John McMillen) Elbert of Nova, and Paula (Gibby) Elbert of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Victor Elbert; mother, LaDonna (nee Schmitz) Walker, step father, Claude Walker; his brother, David Elbert, and sister, Gale Haller.

A devout member of the First Assembly of God in Vermilion, Lana's faith was an integral part of her life. She lived her life as a faithful follower of God, finding solace and strength in her spiritual beliefs. Lana also cherished simple pleasures, such as watching movies and basking in the warmth of the sunshine.
She is survived by her loving children, Deanna "DeeDee" Sherrard ,Christy Whitt,  Darrin  (Lisa ) Whitt , Rodney (Angela ) Whitt, and  Michael  Whitt;  grandchildren, Tanya, Tiffany, Derek, Analecia, Alison, Isabelle, Landri, Michael, Emily, Nicholas and Matthew;  11 great grandchildren with 2 on the way; also survived by her sister, Deanna Simmons and  brother, Jeff Murphy.

He cherished moments spent watching and lighting off fireworks, attending races, collecting Jack Daniels memorabilia, and sharing his life with his beloved wife, Betsy and his cats.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 46 years, Betsy J. (nee Ratliff) Brown of Vermilion, along with his brother, Robert "Rob" (Sheila) Brown, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews.

Patricia embarked on her career in plastics at Whirlpool, later transitioning to the role of Maintenance Dispatcher, where she dedicated 34 years of service until her retirement in 2003.
She found immense pleasure in various activities including traveling, baking cookies with her grandchildren, nurturing her garden and her cherished Bleeding Heart and Lilac bushes. Patricia had a fondness for beachcombing, collecting sea shells, painting them, and adorning her special lamp with them. Above all, she cherished moments spent with her family and giving attention to her house cats, Julius and Jacob.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Faye Forbes, sons Michael Kevin Fox, Robert Curtis Fox, Donald Julius Fox, and William John Fox, grandchildren Kevin, Daniel, Jenny, Donald Jr., Christy, and Kendra, as well as 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Wilbert (Mary) Floyd Armstrong, sister Lillian Brown, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Outside of his professional life, Neil found solace in the pursuits of boating & fishing on Lake Erie, sharing stories and jokes both good and bad, and bowling. In his early days he enjoyed showing his horse 'Ginger'-"Ging" and pheasant hunting with his dogs 'Katie and Kaiser'.
Neil leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty Lou (nee White) Roeper of Vermilion, and his sons, Neil "Chip" (Jackie) Roeper, Jr. of Lakeland, FL, and Timothy (Marcia) Roeper of LaGrange. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Johnathan, Preston, Christine Roeper, and Janell (Roeper) Eschenbrenner, as well as his great-grandchildren, Rhea and Alphonse.

He was also a long time member of the The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Amherst. Beyond his professional pursuits, he found joy in golfing, hunting, fishing, tending to his garden, and enthusiastically following sports, particularly football.
Survived by his loving wife, Alberta (nee Jackson) Witter, with whom he shared many cherished years, Cleetus leaves behind a legacy carried on by his daughter Kathy (Troy) Herchler of Berlin Heights, son Chris (Lynn) Witter of Wellington, and grandchildren Emily (Justin) Galloway and Madison Witter. He is also survived by his brother, Roger (Barbara) Witter of Berlin Heights, and sister, Darlene (Jeff) Krieger of Wakeman.
Preceded in death by his parents, Cleetus B Sr. and Lois A (nee Henson) Witter, Cleetus will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and community.

A devoted member of the community, August was affiliated with Amvets Post #22 and held a 50-year membership with the Masonic Ely Lodge #424. He cherished the beauty of Lake Erie, finding solace in watching the sunset from the beach. His passions extended to boating, fishing, and gardening.
Survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Anna M (nee Krause) Graziano of Vermilion, his daughter Andrea (John) Graziano-Lorince, his sons Steven (Christine) Graziano of Vermilion ,Tony (Colleen) Rosa of Brownhelm, and Auggie Graziano of Huron, along with grandchildren Adrena, Angelina, Lorenzo, Christopher, Anthony Jr, and Brittney, as well as step-grandchildren Stephen, Dustin, Amanda, Casey, Amanda, and Michael.

Born on September 14, 1934, in Lancaster, Ohio, Mark had been a resident of Vermilion for 57 years, having moved from Sheffield Lake, OH.
After completing his education at Case Tech with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Mark ventured to California, where he contributed significantly to the developmental prototype of the rocket engine later used in early rocket programs Jupiter and Thor. Longing to be closer to his family in Ohio, he returned home, eventually meeting his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Ann, whom he married on May 26, 1962. Mark dedicated 35 years of his career as a chemical engineer at BF Goodrich's Avon Lake facility, where his passion for computer and electrical sciences blossomed in the 1960s. This enthusiasm for engineering he later imparted to his three children. After retiring early in 1994, Mark served as an engineering consultant for various local companies and contributed his expertise in IT services at The Ritter Public Library before fully retiring in 2000.
A devout member of St. Mary Catholic Parish in Vermilion, Mark served as a Eucharistic Minister and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of diverse interests, including photography, amateur astronomy, RC modeling, sports cars, boating, waterskiing, electronics, and computer science.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann (nee Noecker), his daughter Cindy (John) Bennett, sons Scott (Lynne) Forsythe and Steven (Aimee) Forsythe, and grandchildren, Mary Ann, Ethan, and Audrey, niece Michelle (Nathaniel) Stitzlein and nephew Michael Salrin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edson and Rose Mary Forsythe of Lancaster, OH, and his sister Annette Salrin.

Oscar was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Vermilion. He enjoyed antique cars, car shows, collecting and selling spark plugs, and going to Hershey, PA to sell antique car parts.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Linda S. Hayes of Vermilion; daughters, Joselynn S. Hayes of Vermilion, and Theresa L. Hayes of North Carolina, and son, Robert E. Hayes of Lagrange. He also had two brothers Carl (Pete) Hayes of Plymouth and John  Hayes of Atlanta, TX. Oscar also leaves behind 7 grandkids and 4 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Josephine Hayes and a sister, Glema Meade.
