A native of Saxapahaw, NC, he was the husband of 67 years to the late Geraldine Lively Knighten and the son of Troy Edgar Knighten and Julie Mann Knighten, both deceased. He was a textile worker, local musician, and inventor of all things. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Diane Miller and husband Mike, Pam Forbis and husband Glen, and Penny Strickland and husband Larry, all of Graham; two granddaughters, Jennifer Forbis Peace and husband Scott and Melissa Strickland Bennett and husband Jonathan, all of Graham; and three great grandchildren, Haley M. Ballard, Tucker Peace, and Gracie Bennett. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leverette Lillington Knighten and Billy Gene Knighten and a granddaughter, Tracy Dawn Miller. A memorial service will be conducted at Trinity Baptist Church in Graham, NC on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Tommy Bright. Obituary Preview: Bruce Odell Dawson, 80, of Haw River passed away in ICU at UNC Rockingham in Eden on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 with several years of declining health with Parkinson’s Disease and one week of critical illness. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Pam Dawson, who survives and the son of Matthew Dawson and Mozelle Stout Dawson, both deceased. He was formerly employed for over 30 years with Cone Granite Finishing in Haw River and retired from CKS Plastics. He also retired with 20 years of volunteer service from the Haw River Fire Department where he held all offices except chief. Bruce was a UNC Tar Heel fan and enjoyed playing all sports and traveling. He was a longtime supporter of Trinity Worship Center, formerly the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Burlington, where he was active with church activities and coached the church softball team. In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include a daughter, Angie Dawson of the home; brother, Carl Dawson and wife Peggy of Fort Worth, TX; sister-in-law, Katherine Clayton and husband Mike of Haw River; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. by Pastor Darrell Cox and Pastor Roger Barefoot with the family receiving friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Other times they will be at the home of Katherine and Mike Clayton. Memorials may be made to the Haw River Fire Department, 403 East Main Street, Haw River, NC 27258.

Obituary Preview: Angela Smithey Lewis, 71, of Burlington passed away at Duke University Medical Center on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 following a brief illness. A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of Dr. Dace A. Lewis, Jr., who survives and the daughter of Loflin L. Smithey and Virginia Busick Smithey, both deceased. She retired from the Alamance Burlington School System (Andrews Elementary School) as a teaching assistant after 26 years. Angela was a devoted and active member of Front Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for over 25 years. She was an active member of the Chancel Choir and Ladies’ Fellowship. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and was very supportive and dedicated to her family. Angela enjoyed crafts, cooking, and baking for her family and friends. She was always willing to help others when in need. In addition to her husband of their home, survivors include two children, Angel Lewis Stutts and husband Randy and Dace A. “Dee” Lewis, III and wife Chavolla Hester, all of Burlington; five grandchildren, Allison S. Gilreath and husband Timothy, Ashley S. Varga and husband Andrew, Randy Lee Stutts, Jr., Decimus Lewis, and Alik Lewis; one great-granddaughter, “Spark of her life” Paislee June Gilreath; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney L. Smithey. In addition to his wife Brenda, he is survived by his sons, Barry King and his wife, Angela, of Graham; Chad King and his wife Nikki, of Alamance; a sister, Pamela Bruner, of Mebane; a  brother, Wayne King, of Tennessee; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Greg King.

Survivors include two grandsons, Spike Snow and Wesley Snow, both of Haw River; daughter-in-law, Jo Snow of Haw River; brother, Richard Snow of Hendersonville; special nephew, Chris Rogers of Burlington; and a sister-in-law, Belvia Snow. He was preceded in death by a son, Troy Snow; brother, Sidney Snow; and two sisters, Alice Rogers and Junas Ecomonus.

Obituary Preview: Carl Franklin McCormick, of Graham, NC, went to meet his Savior on Monday, June 20th, 2022 after losing his battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Ruth Arnette McCormick and John Lewis McCormick, Jr. and sister, Wendy McCormick Cobb. He leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Brenda Barnwell McCormick of the home; sister, Connie McCormick Gerringer of Burlington; brother, John William McCormick of Silver Springs, FL; nieces, Elizabeth Bradley and Caley Gerringer; nephews, James B. Cobb, III and Patrick Cobb. He leaves behind a host of family and friends that stuck by him through his journey, especially Jim and Kathy Ward and Tommy Sharpe. He was a Vietnam veteran and served in two branches of the military, the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He was a world traveler and earned his pilot's license after leaving the military. He loved planes and would build remote controlled planes as a hobby. He was a faithful member of Historic Providence Christian Church. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at Historic Providence Christian Church, Graham, NC by the Rev. Darryl Peebles and Pastor Steve Janicello. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:00 pm on Saturday prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Historic Providence Christian Church and Burlington Animal Services.

Nancy retired as Vice President of Related Services from Carolina Farm Credit after 30 years. She was a member of Swepsonville United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and being apart of the UMW (United Methodist Women). Nancy was an avid Duke basketball fan. She is survived by a son, Frederick Tate Shebester of Swepsonville; daughter, Nancy Ann Shebester of Swepsonville; three granddaughters, Linzy Tate Shebester, Kelly Teixeira (Victor), Devin Barrington (Dustin); six great-grandchildren, Brett, Chase, Joey, Cassie, Reagan, Drex; very special friend, Shirley Lloyd; two special nieces, Beverly Caffey, Beth Harrison and numerous other loving nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Swepsonville United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm. Obituary Preview: Carolyn Green McCall, 77, of Graham passed away at AuthoraCare Collective Hospice Home on Monday, May 30, 2022. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Charles Douglas Green and Cornelia Melton Green, both deceased. Finding joy and fulfillment in the service of others, decades of her career included serving as the Toyland Director and Purchasing Agent of Christmas Cheer and an administrator of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell. A faithful follower of Christ, Carolyn was most recently a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church but was a member of People's Memorial Christian Church for many years prior.   Ever the adventurous spirit, Carolyn adored interacting with horses. As a young woman she spent years breaking and training horses as well as barrel racing competitively. She loved fishing, especially at her family's lake cabin, and had a knack for hooking large bass. Carolyn was known to some as "Little Miss Sunbeam", having won a national look-alike contest in 1954. She treasured her many friendships and delighted in the times they shared together. Her life's most cherished role, however, was that of mother and grandmother. She lavished her family with love and made every event a celebration. Survivors include two daughters, Ginger Starling Strickland and husband Kendall of Graham and Cortni Starling Lilley and husband Russell of Chocowinity, NC; a son, John Allen Murray, Jr. and wife Paula of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Bailey S. Bunting and husband Tanner, Hannah C. Strickland, Abigail R. Lane, Paisley G. Murray, McKenna B. Murray, Harper R. Lilley, and Carson R. Lilley; three great-grandchildren, Arlo K. Bunting, Colette E. Bunting, and Baby Girl Bunting on the way. A celebration of life will be held at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Survivors include a son, Mike Ray and wife Ginger of Graham; two grandchildren, Kristi Ray Hicks and husband John of Staley and Katie Ray of Graham; two sisters, Opal Wood and Pearl Smith; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by Ruby Lamb Phillips. The funeral service will be conducted at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 12:00 noon by Rev.
